• vpsinfo system info script but for windows

  I'm using vpsinfo on all my linux servers, both virtual and non virtual and I'm wondering does anybody know of a similar script for windows servers? I sure could use one, so much that I'm even tempted to write one, but lack the time to do so. EDIT: I am not looking for monitoring application. I'm looking for a asp.net page that will show me all the relevant information about my server (like vpsinfo) without the hassle.

• Download/update webpages listed in XML sitemap

  I'm searching a FLOSS tool that downloads all pages (and embedded resources, e.g. images) linked in a XML sitemap (built according to http://www.sitemaps.org/). The tool should "crawl" the sitemap regularly and look for new and deleted URLs and changes in the lastmod element. So whenever a page gets added/deleted/updated, the tool should apply the changes. Some sitemaps list sub-sitemaps in sitemapindex?sitemap. The tool should understand this and load all linked sub-sitemaps and look for URLs in there. I know there are tools that allow me to extract all URLs from the sitemap, so that I could feed them to wget or similar tools (see for example: Extract Links from a sitemap(xml)). But this wouldn't help in getting noticed about updates to pages. Tracking the webpages itself for updates doesn't work, because "secondary" content on the pages changes daily, but lastmod gets only updated when relevant content changed.

  Hey all this is a repost from a question I asked on the cisco forums but never got a useful reply. Hey I'm trying to convert the FreeBSD servers at work to dual-gig lagg links from regular gigabit links. Our production servers are on a 3560. I have a small test environment on a 3550. I have achieved fail-over, but am having troubles achieving the speed increase. All servers are running gig intel (em) cards. The configs for the servers are: BSDServer: #!/bin/sh #bring up both interfaces ifconfig em0 up media 1000baseTX mediaopt full-duplex ifconfig em1 up media 1000baseTX mediaopt full-duplex #create the lagg interface ifconfig lagg0 create #set lagg0's protocol to lacp, add both cards to the interface, #and assign it em1's ip/netmask ifconfig lagg0 laggproto lacp laggport em0 laggport em1 ***.***.***.*** netmask 255.255.255.0 The switches are configured as follows: #clear out old junk no int Po1 default int range GigabitEthernet 0/15 - 16 # config ports interface range GigabitEthernet 0/15 - 16 description lagg-test switchport duplex full speed 1000 switchport access vlan 192 spanning-tree portfast channel-group 1 mode active channel-protocol lacp **** switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q **** no shutdown exit interface Port-channel 1 description lagginterface switchport access vlan 192 exit port-channel load-balance src-mac end obviously change 1000's to 100's and GigabitEthernet to FastEthernet for the 3550's config, as that switch has 100Mbit speed ports. With this config on the 3550, I get failover and 92Mbits/sec speed on both links, simultaneously, connecting to 2 hosts.(tested with iperf) Success. However this is only with the "switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q" line. First, I do not understand why I need this, I thought it was only for connecting switches. Is there some other setting which this turns on that is actually responsible for the speed increase? Second, This config does not work on the 3560. I get failover, but not the speed increase. Speeds drop from gig/sec to 500Mbit/sec when I make 2 simultaneous connections to the server with or without the encapsulation line. I should mention that both switches are using source-mac load balancing. In my test I am using Iperf. I have the server(lagg box) setup as the server(iperf -s), and the client computers are client(iperf -c server-ip-address), so the source mac(and IP) are different for both connections. Any ideas/corrections/questions would be helpful, as the gig switches are what I actually need the lagg links on. Ask if you need more information.

• Telnet disconnected on login failure

  Hi, I have two servers running Linux 2.6.9 kernel. When i telnet to server1 , the telnet will be disconnected only after 3 login failures. While, when i telnet to server2, telnet will be disconnected after the first login failure. I expect server2 to behave the same way as server1 when telnet is executed. • Connect Ubuntu 11.04 to xbox 360

  I'd like to be able to stream .avi files to my xbox 360 video library. I've gone through a bunch of different servers (ushare, xbmc) both from the aptitude and from source. It seems that I can get the servers working from both localhost and from another computer on the network. However, the xbox cannot detect any of these. Can anybody give me a hand or perhaps post a detailed walkthrough to give me a hand? Thanks!

• HAproxy roundrobin balancing does not appear to be distributing evently

  Hello, I know that with loaded servers, roundrobin in HAproxy (1.4.4) does not evenly distribute, but my servers are currently getting NO traffic (test setup), and roundrobin balancing does www1,www1,www1,www1,www1,...www2,www2,www2,...,www1... What is odd is that I have another domain that has the same DNS servers, which points to the same server regardless of your location (which is the way it's mean't to work). Any ideas why the first domain is pointing to different IP addresses for different people?

• Server unable to communicate OUT, fine serving traffic

  We have several servers that are randomly loses the ability to communicate out to other nodes on the local network and internet. However websites are being served fine and we still have ssh access. A reboot seems to fix the problem for a few days. The servers are running 10.5.X and are fully up to date with software updates.   I just got a really good deal on two Intel Quad Core Xeon L5420 processors and I have access to other deals on bare IBM servers (case+motherboard, no processor/ram/hdd). How can I easily find out what server or motherboard models will be compatible with this processor? I am ideally looking for a dual-processor motherboard and I see that it is socket LGA771. • Can I use ext3 as a shared fs if I add a lock manager ?

  I need a cluster filesystem for an iSCSI device. The problem is that the servers to which it is connected generate datafiles which must be read by every other servers. Except for the writing and deleting of such files, I do not need a full locking scheme like in OCFS2 or GFS2. So, can I use a distributed lock manager (DLM) on top of an ext3 filesystem or must I use only specialized filesystem ?

  Is it possible to instantly deploy a certain piece of software by creating a GPO in Active Directory? I realize it's possible to do this but only after rebooting the computer, and that is something we don't always want to do, especially since some of the software I want to deploy on servers. What are the options? One thing to note is that most of our users do NOT have admin rights as I am talking not only about servers but also about workstations in the classrooms.

For all production servers, the public-private key pair has been generated for the same user and then exported to the backup server for allowing ssh authentication without human intervention. • Daemon process exiting when shell closes

  I have a script which starts a daemon process and then sleeps for 20 seconds. If I run the script on SLES11 SP1 or RHEL6 then after the script exits the process is still running. If I run the script on SLES11 SP3 or RHEL6.3 then after the script exits the process is no longer running. The process continues to run for the entire 20 second sleep and is killed when the process exits. The script is run via expect so the script's entire shell exits with the process. Obviously if this wasn't a daemon it was starting I wouldn't be surprised. Also, I suspect the problem isn't the OS version as much as it is the difference in the way we've setup the newer servers (no idea what those differences are though, the older servers were set up years ago). During the 20 seconds the process runs if I do a ps I get the following: root 4699 1 0 15:14 pts/2 00:00:00 sudo -u openmq /opt/PacketPortal/openmq/default/bin/imqbrokerd -bgnd -autorestart -silent -port 7676 -Dimq.service.activelist=admin,ssljms -D openmq 4701 4699 0 15:14 pts/2 00:00:00 /bin/sh /opt/PacketPortal/openmq/default/bin/imqbrokerd -bgnd -autorestart -silent -port 7676 -Dimq.service.activelist=admin,ssljms -Dimq.ssl The fact that the parent process of 4699 is 1 seems to suggest to me that the process has been correctly daemonized. However, after the expect script exits both 4699 and 4701 are killed. What could be causing this? UPDATE I've printed the same output on the servers that work. I wonder why it doesn't do that on the newer servers. UPDATE Here is the section of the script that actually launches OpenMQ. The -bgnd flag is what is supposed to daemonize it. sudo -u openmq $IMQ_HOME/bin/$EXECUTABLE -bgnd $BROKER_OPTIONS $ARGS > /dev/null 2>&1 &

  Best practices indicate that one should list 127.0.0.1 in the DNS list for the network adapter configuration for a Domain Controller, but not as the first one. With that said, what is the best place to put it in a list with more than two DNS servers listed? Second, last, or it doesn't matter? Also helpful would be an explanation as to why. • Using OpenNMS, how can I disable notifications for a particular service and server

  We are using OpenNMS to monitor a pool of servers, and we have a problem with SMTP in one particular box. OpenNMS is "spamming" us all the time with DOWN/RESOLVED messages for that particular service in that server, and I wanted to mute those notifications momentarely but couldn't find how to do that. I know that I can disable ALL notifications or disable SMTP in ALL servers, but that's not what I want. I'm used to muting a particular service in Nagios, but is it possible in OpenNMS?
