I would like to move/manipulate the mapping of my Wacom tablet to my screen as easily as with Inklet:
http://tenonedesign.com/inklet.php
Is anyone aware of any software or hack to acheive this on Mac OS X?
If not I'm thinking about trying to write a script that centers the mapping on the current cursor position, and then bidning that to a button on my tablet. Combined with a script for toggling between fullscreen/part of screen-mapping that should be enough.
My idea so far is to edit the .prefs file since it's plain XML, and then restart the tablet driver. But any pointers relating to this would be most welcome, since my knowledge of this kind of things is rudimentary.
I just cant seem to figure out the logic in how to configure my Mac Server.
So I have set up an DNS, which will take the domain and all subdomains and point towards an IP.
File: db.mydomain.com (in /var/named/)
mydomain.com. 10800 IN SOA mydomain.com. admin.mydomain.com. (
2012110903 ; serial
3600 ; refresh (1 hour)
900 ; retry (15 minutes)
1209600 ; expire (2 weeks)
86400 ; minimum (1 day)
)
10800 IN NS mydomain.com.
10800 IN A 10.0.1.2
www.mydomain.com. 10800 IN A 10.0.1.2
So I want all of these requests to be requested to the 10.0.1.2 server, as I run 2 servers in my cluster. This one has always handled the requests, and now I want to add a server in between. So the server in between will get all the signals from my router which NAT the trafic coming from outside.
So after setting this up and trying to point my port 80 towards my new server which will be the middle point, it doesn't work. Is it even possible to do it this way?
First server: Mac
Second server: Linux
So what I try to achieve once more:
1. User goes to mydomain.com or www.mydomain.com
2. User request gets handled by my first server
3. First server refers to a local server, which is only available locally (it is configured to allow requests on port 80 and handle them)
4. Second server receives signal
5. Second server returns a request (either directly send to user or send through first server, whichever is most secure and configurable)
I also want to be able to set up domains that lead to other servers in the future, and some that are only available within the VPN. (If that changes anything)
I hope some kind soul could help me with this, it is really cumbersome for my mind to get the logic here.
Do I have to configure my other server in any way?
/Marcus
I'm following a video tutorial where the author (who uses textmate) can open files by using "mate". for example mate .git/config will open this config file
I'm using textwrangler however so I don't have that option. I did try edit .README once when i tried to open the README file of an application, but it opened a blank README file in textwrangler instead of the file with the text in it
so any idea how I can open this .git/config file (or any other file) using textwrangler?
I'm using Mac snow leopard
I'm using a new macbook 10.6.5. I've been using mac OS for years. However, the problem that I'm getting is that the desktop icons keep resizing repeatedly. It keeps going to the biggest size possible and its driving me crazy.
I've been resizing it back to medium size all the time. But when I start doing something at the finder it starts resizing by itself once again.
Is there a fix to this problem? Please help.
I have a router running OpenWRT backfire, with N and A/B/G being broadcast. A linux laptop, and a Mac laptop can see the N network and connect to it (or at least they could last weekend). But there is now a Windows 7 Desktop with a B/G/N wireless card, and a Windows 8 Laptop with a B/G/N wireless card that can't see the N network only the B/G broadcast. The B/G and N have different SSID's and Encryption ( WEP and WPA2 PSK respectively ). The N SSID isn't even visible. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to troubleshoot further? Or what might be the cause?

I'm trying to secure my home network but don't really need the complexity of a VPN so I'm trying to figure out other options.
I'd like to allow my iPhone remote access to my home servers but I can't depend on the IP address because it changes quite often (due to the 3G network, etc).
Can I filter incoming connections on my router (pfsense) by MAC address or does NAT change the source as it's passing through the different routers on the internet?
Behavior:
Load Safari 5.0 on mac.
Press command+f to search for some text.
Type something, and find it on the page.
Hit esc to cancel the search.
Irritatingly, get word completion menu rather than canceling.
Is there any way to make esc cancel the search, like it used to with Safari 4.0, instead of pulling up a word completion dialog? It's very annoying. Failing that, what's the best way to cancel the search with the keyboard?
Note: this also happens in any text field, the search box, the location bar etc.
I use Snow Leopard, and I'm used to activate / deactivate WiFi like 20 times per day. The reason is that WiFi stops working properly after a few minutes of use. So every time I try to surf, I must stop/reactivate it first.
But now, suddenly I have to enter my user password every time I want to do it. It's so annoying!
The dialogue details say:
Right: com.apple.airport.power
Program: SystemUIServer
What can I do that the Mac won't ask me for the password every time? It's hard enough that I have to stop/reactivate WiFi all the time (hardware bug). I have a admin account with full rights.
Hi, on Mac, you know there is no 'merge files' when you ctrl+c/ctrl+v some folder on another one, it actually replaces it. I'm simply wondering on what UNIX is this based? because correct me if I'm wrong, but "cp - R" DOES merge files, no? And that's what I'm doing via the Finder, copying some files and folders...
thanks!
Hi I wanted to reformat my HP 500GB hard disk to MS DOS (FAT) by using Disk Utility but Disk Utility kept saying that the hard disk cannot be unmounted. I tried googling it but nothing seems to answer my question. I'm not trying to reformat the hard disk in my Mac but my external hard disk!
I usually format my hard disks to clear the documents I no longer need. And I'll change it to ExFat but currently, whenever I plug in my hard disk on Windows, the whole system just hangs there.
Can someone help??
I can't seem to be able to install Windows 7 64-bit on a 2008 MacBook (64-bit dual core) from an external USB DVD drive.
I've done the following:
Performed a clean install of Mac OS X Snow Leopard
Installed all system updates
Run Boot Camp Assistant - when the system restarts I get an error stating "no bootable disc"
Used rEFIt, but I still get the same error
Made a bootable USB drive from an ISO of the Windows 7 installation disc, but I still get the same error
Tried using Windows 7 32-bit, Windows 7 64-bit and Windows XP, but I still get the same error
How I can resolve this?
I have been asked to help a small non profit organasation with some IT problems. They currently have a mailing list of around 200 people saved on a mac inside adres book. Now currently these people are send emails in groups of around 20 as the standard apple email program does not allow more. I know that there are programs that can be used to send email to a larger number of people however these usually require a database and I'm not sure how to use those. Anybody got any tips?
Sometimes you may want to undo your choice of "Never for this site" when Chrome asks if you want to save a password. But on the mac clicking on the "Show saved passwords" in the Preferences opens the Keychain Access app and you have no way to remove that site from the exceptions list.
This is obviously a bug.
I suppose that deleting all saved passwords will do but I don't want to delete them all. Is there any other workaround? (Chrome 6.0.472.63)
I currently share my DSL connection using a wireless router with DHCP disabled, and dnsmasq running on a Mac Mini serving DHCP & DNS. This setup is important because I have clients doing PXE boot, and I need the control over DHCP that dnsmasq provides. There is also a Time Capsule on the network that's used purely as a backup device; its wireless functions are disabled.
The wireless router is starting to get a little flaky, and since it doesn't support 802.11n I'd like to replace it. Rather than buying a new router, I'd like to just use the Time Capsule. But I see no way to disable its DHCP server; when I set the connection type to PPPoE, it insists on serving DHCP.
Is there any way to use Airport PPPoE with a DHCP server elsewhere on the network?
I have a pc with 5 internal hard drives. Pc and mac are connected via gigabit router to share files. Please suggest top three ways to speed up the process.
I am an application developer in a small company. Recently, my boss asked me to setup a server for another company owned by him. He has 2 latest MAC PRO and he can provide me any hardware I want.
He listed the following requirements:
Failover is a must
Should be capable to handle 20 vpn connections at the same time
RAID 5
Remote Copy of backup data to different loaction
I know this is a generic question that I shuoldn't ask here, but I really need help because comparing to Linux and MS server. There are not many resources available online. I read the APPLE PRO TRAINING book but it tells nothing about the above requirements.
My team doing a project related to network using Asp.net MVC(c#).
I need to validate mac address & ipaddress in client side(using javascript) & server side(using c#). I didn't get a good solution for validating mac address & ip addresss.
I searched google for finding a good user interface for validating mac address by giving colon after two number eg: "XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX" by using Masked Input. Please give reference/guidance for implementing this. Any jquery plugin for implementing Masked Input.
Hello folks,
I am trying to install Flex 3 on my Windows 7 Virtual machine (parallels desktop) on my Mac Pro.
The problem seems to be some sort of conflict between the copy of Flex 3 Builder installed on Mac OS X.
The installer tries to install Flex in x:/Program Files/Adobe/Flex Builder 3/
but since Parallels Desktop connects all directories, there resides the Flex Builder 3 installation of MAC.
I get this error Log:

I'm trying to write a script that uses the make command, but Mac os 10.5 doesn't come with make installed by default, and when you download the make source code from gnu's website, you have to use make itself to compile and install it. which is hard if you don't have it in the first place. How can I install make?
(I know you can get make by installing Xcode and the developer tools that come with mac os, but I don't want people to have to go find their mac os install dvds to be able to use the script.)
It doesn't even have to be make, i'm just looking for a utility that you can easily download in a script (using ftp or curl) and use to compile source code.
Hello everyone,
I am using scp command to copy file from a MacBook Pro OS X 10.5 to another Linux box (Red Hat Linux Enterprise 5).
I am using the following command on Mac, sudo scp ~/.ssh/mykey.rsa [email protected], there is no output from Mac command line. I am not sure whether the scp is success or not. Where is the location the file mykey.rsa on remote computer 10.10.100.101?
thanks in advance,
George
