• Importing Multiple Schemas to a Model in Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler

  Your physical data model might stretch across multiple Oracle schemas. Or maybe you just want a single diagram containing tables, views, etc. spanning more than a single user in the database. The process for importing a data dictionary is the same, regardless if you want to suck in objects from one schema, or many schemas. Let’s take a quick look at how to get started with a data dictionary import. I’m using Oracle SQL Developer in this example. The process is nearly identical in Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler – the only difference being you’ll use the ‘File’ menu to get started versus the ‘File – Data Modeler’ menu in SQL Developer. Remember, the functionality is exactly the same whether you use SQL Developer or SQL Developer Data Modeler when it comes to the data modeling features – you’ll just have a cleaner user interface in SQL Developer Data Modeler. Importing a Data Dictionary to a Model You’ll want to open or create your model first. You can import objects to an existing or new model. The easiest way to get started is to simply open the ‘Browser’ under the View menu. The Browser allows you to navigate your open designs/models You’ll see an ‘Untitled_1′ model by default. I’ve renamed mine to ‘hr_sh_scott_demo.’ Now go back to the File menu, and expand the ‘Data Modeler’ section, and select ‘Import – Data Dictionary.’ This is a fancy way of saying, ‘suck objects out of the database into my model’ Connect! If you haven’t already defined a connection to the database you want to reverse engineer, you’ll need to do that now. I’m going to assume you already have that connection – so select it, and hit the ‘Next’ button. Select the Schema(s) to be imported Select one or more schemas you want to import The schemas selected on this page of the wizard will dictate the lists of tables, views, synonyms, and everything else you can choose from in the next wizard step to import. For brevity, I have selected ALL tables, views, and synonyms from 3 different schemas: HR SCOTT SH Once I hit the ‘Finish’ button in the wizard, SQL Developer will interrogate the database and add the objects to our model. The Big Model and the 3 Little Models I can now see ALL of the objects I just imported in the ‘hr_sh_scott_demo’ relational model in my design tree, and in my relational diagram. Quick Tip: Oracle SQL Developer calls what most folks think of as a ‘Physical Model’ the ‘Relational Model.’ Same difference, mostly. In SQL Developer, a Physical model allows you to define partitioning schemes, advanced storage parameters, and add your PL/SQL code. You can have multiple physical models per relational models. For example I might have a 4 Node RAC in Production that uses partitioning, but in test/dev, only have a single instance with no partitioning. I can have models for both of those physical implementations. The list of tables in my relational model Wouldn’t it be nice if I could segregate the objects based on their schema? Good news, you can! And it’s done by default Several of you might already know where I’m going with this – SUBVIEWS. You can easily create a ‘SubView’ by selecting one or more objects in your model or diagram and add them to a new SubView. SubViews are just mini-models. They contain a subset of objects from the main model. This is very handy when you want to break your model into smaller, more digestible parts. The model information is identical across the model and subviews, so you don’t have to worry about making a change in one place and not having it propagate across your design. SubViews can be used as filters when you create reports and exports as well. So instead of generating a PDF for everything, just show me what’s in my ‘ABC’ subview. But, I don’t want to do any work! Remember, I’m really lazy. More good news – it’s already done by default! The schemas are automatically used to create default SubViews Auto-Navigate to the Object in the Diagram In the subview tree node, right-click on the object you want to navigate to. You can ask to be taken to the main model view or to the SubView location. If you haven’t already opened the SubView in the diagram, it will be automatically opened for you. The SubView diagram only contains the objects from that SubView Your SubView might still be pretty big, many dozens of objects, so don’t forget about the ‘Navigator‘ either! In summary, use the ‘Import’ feature to add existing database objects to your model. If you import from multiple schemas, take advantage of the default schema based SubViews to help you manage your models! Sometimes less is more!

Recently we have upgraded to the latest version of SQL Server and we are updating our code as well. Here is the question for you, there are plenty of places we have been using old style RAISEERROR code and now we want to convert it to use THROW. Would you please suggest a sample example for the same.” Very interesting question. THROW was introduced in SQL Server 2012 to handle the error gracefully and return the error message. • Boot failure on Ubuntu 11.04

  I was using my laptop with Ubuntu without problem for a few months. I did not update any software or install any OS updates. This morning when it started, I got error: no such device:.... error: no such disk error: you need to load the kernel first. Press any key to continue... Then takes me back to GRUB menu. Both Ubuntu option and recovery mode option show the same thing (above). What does this mean? How do I fix it? Since I did not install anything new, does it mean the SSD is dying (again)? How to check the SSD to and fix any file system errors? Ubuntu 11.04 EDIT: Just remembered something: when the system was shutting down, it did not turn off. There were a bunch of weird output statements, and I assumed the system had shut down so I turned it off with the power button. Perhaps something got corrupted because of that.

  I am setting up a spring mvc web application + hibernate jpa + maven from scratch using Eclipse Indigo. I am stuck in this error when doing a Maven build. I even search the whole project for the text <extension>war</ and mysteriously, there is no text like this in my project. • Rendering another screen on top of main game screen in fullscreen mode

  my game runs in fullscreen mode and uses active rendering. The graphics are drawn on the fullscreen window in each game loop: public void render() { Window w = screen.getFullScreenWindow(); Graphics2D g = screen.getGraphics(); renderer.render(g, level, w.getWidth(), w.getHeight()); g.dispose(); screen.update(); } This is the screen.update() method: public void update(){ Window w = device.getFullScreenWindow(); if(w != null){ BufferStrategy s = w.getBufferStrategy(); if(!s.contentsLost()){ s.show(); } } } I want to display another screen on my main game screen (menu, inventory etc). Lets say I have a JPanel inventory, which has a grid of inventory cells (manually drawn) and some Swing components like JPopupMenu. So i tried adding that to my window and repainting it in the game loop, which worked okay most of the time... but sometimes the panel wouldn't get displayed. Blindly moving things around in the inventory worked, but it just didn't display. When i alt-tabbed out and back again, it displayed properly. I also tried drawing the rest of the inventory on my full screen window and using a JPanel to display only the buttons and popupmenus. The inventory displayed properly, but the Swing components keep flickering. I'm guessing this is because I don't know how to combine active and passive rendering. public void render() { Graphics2D g = screen.getGraphics(); invManager.render(g); g.dispose(); screen.update(); invPanel.repaint(); } Should i use something else instead of a JPanel? I don't really need active rendering for these screens, but I don't understand why they sometimes just don't display. Or maybe I should just make my own custom components instead of using Swing? I also read somewhere that using multiple panels/frames in a game is bad practice so should I draw everything on one window/frame/panel? If I CAN use JPanels for this, should I add and remove them every time the inventory is toggled? Or just change their visibility?

• 11415 compile errors FTW?!

  Hello. This is something I've really never seen but, I downloaded the source code of the sine wave example at http://www.audiosynth.com/sinewavedemo.html . It is in an old Project Builder Project format, and I want to compile it with Xcode (GCC). However, Xcode gives me 11415 compile errors.   hi, UPDATE: I didn't set the response mimetype to 'application/json'. It works now. In the website I'm working on (http://piem.org:8000/) I've got an issue with an ajax post request. Every time the search button is clicked or the google maps 'idle' is triggered I send a request to get some data. While the request works as expected in most cases, it returns an error when I click a result and come back to the search page. (type 'barcelona' in the search box to get the unique restaurant in the db). The server processes the request properly but it seems that the error occurs when the javascript receives it (it returns a "12031" error code). It works properly with FF 3.0.6, IE 8.0 and Chrome 5.0 with GET, and with FF with both POST and GET. Anybody can help? thanks jul

  I am running ubuntu 14 off of a live USB. I have a second monitor that I would like to use while using ubuntu. It has an installation cd that you have to install before using, and when I click on the .exe file the Archive Manager tries to open it and says an error occurred while loading the archive. Thanks for the help. Edit: additional information It just doesn't show up when when I'm in the display settings area. I press the locate(name is probably something else) monitor button too. I know it needs the CD because when I was using it with Windows it didn't work until I went through the installation process on the CD. If ubuntu doesn't use .exe files is there a way to use the CD still?   I had MySQL running fine on my Mac till earlier today when I installed homebrew and also updated my Path. When I try to run mysql from my ternimal window now, I get the following error: ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (2) I can't connect MySQLAdmin either. I can't even run Mysqld. The error I get when trying to run mysqld is that it can't create test file. I also tried to tlenet loalhost 3306 and wasn't able to connect. Any help would be appreciated as I am fairly new to Mac.

  I have a classic ASP website that is crashing in IIS7. It is crashing because IIS doesn't allow file uploads greater than a certain size. I know this because files below about 200k work fine. I removed the Status Code 500 error in IIS but I still don't get a file name and the line where my code failed as I do when running locally. Instead I get: "The page cannot be displayed because an internal server error has occurred. If you are the system administrator please click here to find out more about this error." • Nvidia dual monitor configuration gets lost every time I reboot

  I've recently updated (well, borked then completely reinstalled) to 12.04. I'm running a dual monitor setup, with a Dell U2410 / Dell 2007WFP combination on an HP Elite Book 8560W. The graphics card is an NVIDIA GF108 [Quadro 1000M]. My problem is as follows. I can get the dual monitor setup working fine, but every time I reboot, my machine appears to lose the settings (specifically, the U2410 is disabled, the mouse pointer is locked in the launcher). I have to restate the settings after every launch. I've tried running nvidia-settings as sudo, I've save the changes to my xorg.conf file (see below) but nothing seems to be sticking. Has anyone had similair issues, or know of a fix? • Websphere exception handling

  Hi all, From a security standpoint, what is the best solution to handle application errors with Websphere? I've been thinking of creating a class that is called every time an application error is generated, log the error and display a generic error message to the users. In PHP this can be achieved using the set_exception_handler() function. Is there something similar for websphere that could be configured in the web.xml? I've found codes like this on the internet: <error-page> <error-code>500</error-code> <location>/servlet/ExceptionHandlerServlet</location> </error-page> But that would only work with "500" HTTP error codes. I really want something generic that catches everything. Something like a class that implements a certain interface which can have access to all information about the error. Thanks for your time.

  I've got this code in my viewController.m file - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; GameLogic *_game = [[GameLogic alloc] init]; [_game initGame]; ....... } GameLogic is another class which I created. in the same viewController.m file, I have got another function - (void)test { if([_game returnElecFence]) { NSLog(@"YES"); } else { NSLog(@"NO"); } } Problem is, whenever the test function is called, I get an error saying '_game' undeclared. I tried putting the GameLogic init code in the .h file and on top of the @implementation to make it global but every method I tried resulted in a worse error. • Dual Monitor 'How To' for 12.04

  I recently built my own PC and was delighted with the result, except for a problem with dual monitors. After having tried a few different combinations of hardware, I think what I really need is a 'how to' explanation. My motherboard is an MSI Z77MA-G45, which has an analogue, a DVI, and a HDMI port. Initially I hooked monitors up to the DVI and analogue port and it seemed to work fine. Both screens worked independently of each other, it was great. After a few days I started turning my PC off at night, and when I tried to turn it back on it would boot into the terminal mode. I would have to turn one of the monitors off and after rebooting a few times, it would eventually boot into an X Window session. Occasionally I would see an error relating to Xorg. I upgraded the motherboard BIOS but that made no difference. Eventually, I installed a graphics card - an NVIDIA GeForce GT 520. Now it seems that my on board graphics have been disabled completely, and I am reliant on the graphics card. Furthermore, the graphics card seems to only recognise one screen at a time. (The first time I rebooted with both plugged in, it flashed up a message saying that it was auto-selecting DVI). Anyhow, I think I need some 'how to' (or perhaps 'where to'), from here. For example, is X Windows configuration the next place to look? And how do I go about configuring X Windows? (Note that in Systems Settings it says my graphics driver is 'unknown', and when I ask it to detect monitors, it sees only the one!)

• Does a rollback still occur if I use begin...rescue and an error occurs?

  I've got some strange errors happening in my rails app and I'm trying to log better errors instead of the whole stack of passenger stuff that I don't care about. I thought I would do this with a Rescue clause and explicit error handling, like logging the params hash. But I'm concerned if this would interrupt any rollback that is happening. For that matter, I'm assuming rollbacks automatically occur when an error occurs as part of the normal rails error handling, but I haven't been able to find that documented anywhere. I'm using Dreamhost with MySQL, so I thought transactions and rollbacks were happening there.

• How can I extend the desktop onto an external monitor/projector?

  I've plugged in a projector into my laptop and I'm attempting to extend the desktop onto it (so that I can run a full screen app on the projector and have the controls on my laptop). I'm able to mirror the screens effectively (it does this by default) but I can't extend it. When I untick "Mirror screens" and press apply it asks me to log out and then back in again but it goes back to mirroring the screens. I'm able to extend desktop on to my external monitor at home, just not this projector. Is there a manual way or other way to do this other that through Monitors setting? My computer model is Dell Studio 1555: Pentium Dual Core T4300(2.1GHz,800MHz,1MB), 4096MB 800MHz DDR2 Dual Channel, 512 MB ATI Mobility RADEON HD 4570 using the ATI proprietary driver. My screen resolution is 1366x768 (16:9) The projector that it wont connect properly is a Hitachi CPX3. That page specifies that it's especially designed for projectors that use 16:10 aspect ratio, but considering my external monitor at home uses 4:3 should the differences in aspect ratio matter or be causing this error?

• Dual displays not working with Xinerama in Ubuntu 12.04

  I just upgraded from Ubuntu 10.10 to 12.04. I had been using a display configuration just like the one described at http://bitkickers.blogspot.com/2009/08/rotate-just-one-monitor-with.html without any problems under 10.10. I have an nvidia Quadro FX 380 and have upgraded to the latest drivers (295.49). Everything appears to be fine when the system first boots up. However, after logging in, the left screen goes black, and the right screen displays what should be displayed on the left screen. Logging into Ubuntu 2D somewhat improves things. The left screen correctly displays the left portion of the desktop but the right screen contains a duplicate view of the left screen. Turning off Xinerama and enabling TwinView appears to fix the issues but does not allow the right monitor to be rotated. Since the display problems start to occur only after logging on, I thought it might have to do with carryover user configuration from 10.10 but the problems persist even when logging in as a guest. Clicking on System Settings - Displays results in the error message "Could not get screen information - RANDR extension is not present." Any help would be greatly appreciated.

• Dual monitor, permission issue

  I had a dual monitor configuration going on for quite some time. One day, after moving the computer to another location and reconnecting everything, it changed such that I saw everything in double (being very much sober), I think it's called the 'mirrors' config. Anyway, from there on, there was nothing to be done through the system settings gui to change it back, as it wouldn't allow me to save any modification. The error I get when clicking 'save' is : "Failed to create file /home/me/monitors.xml.xxxxxx. Permission denied", xxxx being a random code, changing everytime. However, I can save all the configurations I want just fine by using the terminal, in my case: xrandr --output DVI-I-1 --right-of VGA-1 So I do have a workaround and this is therefore a question more out of curiosity. What could possibly have changed to make it impossible to do it through the gui and still letting me change the config using xrandr without being root? I'm having a hard time believing it could have anything to do with disconnecting/reconnecting the monitors... Any idea? Thanks !

• 501 Error during Libjingle PCP on Amazone EC2 running Openfire

  I am trying to implement Google's Libjingle (version: 0.6.14) PCP example and I am getting a 501: feature not implemented error during execution. Specifically, the error occurs after each "account" has connected, been authenticated and began communicating with the other. An abbreviated log of the interaction is provided at the end. I have set up my own jabber server (using OpenFire on an Amazon EC2 server), have opened all of the necessary ports and have added each "account" to the other's roster. The server has been set to allow for file transfers. My being new to working with servers, I am not sure why this error is occur and how to go about fixing it. Thanks in advance, AeroBuffalo P.S.
