  I want to deploy and publish my first asp.net mvc 3 web application at my client side (the client is a small office with 2-4 employees that need to access the application) , currently i finished developing my web application using the free Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2010 express and the free SQL Server 2008 R2 Express database . So my concerns are :- 1. The free sql express database that i am currently using have a limitation of 10 GB i think So i want to buy SQL server for small business to remove the database limitations. So my questions that i need help with them are:- **1. If i use the sql server for small business then will my web application have other limitations on production i am unaware of ? 2. Will be using SQL server for small business my right choice? baring in my that the system will be used by 2-4 clients only? 3. How much does “approximate ” the sql server database will cost in US dollars? 4. Which one do you think is best for starting to do real world coding the fastest? I really think coding from your browser will make programming more accessible to the public. When request are valid all is fine and the response is wellformed, but when the request is invalid (cause a invalid signature, failed check, or soapexception thrown), the web server isn't able to process the response to send to the client. The error in application event log is: An error occured processing an outgoing fault response.   Hi, I have a web service in a C#/3.5 project which has been running fine. This is until I set the "SSL port" in IIS to 443 and set the "IIS - Directory Security - Secure Communications - Require secure channel (SSL)" option to true. Now, the web reference cannot be updated and I cannot add a new web reference to the web service in that site. When I try to view the service in a browse using just HTTP I get the "This page must be viewed over a secure channel" and when viewed with HTTPS on the front I get "This web page not available." Could someone tell me how to get a Web Reference added using Visual Studio to this secure web service, please? Thanks, Matt.

  What is the best way to survey and detect bad users behavior or attacks like deny of services or exploits on my web app ? I know server's statistics (like Awstats) are very useful for that kind of purpose, specially to see 3XX, 4XX and 5XX errors (here's an Awstats example page) which are often bots or bad intentioned users that try well-known bad or malformed URLs. Is there others (and betters) ways to analyze and detect that kind of attack tentative ? Note : I'm speaking about URL based attacks, not attacks on server's component (like database or TCP/IP).

• What considerations should be made for a web app to be released on a cloud hosted system?

  I have a web app that is primarily a WordPress app, but it pulls content from a Django app, simply by calling a service that uses Django models. My understanding of cloud computing is a bit vague. If the site needs to scale up with short notice, does the cloud provider (Amazon, Rackspace, whomever) simply spin up new instances (copies) of my initially configured server? How is state managed between all of them? Are there any good primers on this subject? It's hard to find much out there without getting caught up in the marketing.

  Hello, We are at a stage where we are considering different Web UI frameworks (most likely component based ones such as GWT, JSF, Wicket, Vaadin, etc). One of the main use cases / constraints is that it must support generating dynamic pages. I.e., the page/form layout and components is stored in a database and is changeable at runtime, and from this pages are generated. We are also going to write static layouts, but that is not the main focus of this question. I thought maybe the user community here can share experiences of different frameworks in this context. Are there differences in ease of implementation and what is suitable?

• [C#] How to consume web service adheres to the Event-based Asynchronous Pattern?

  I am following the example from http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/8wy069k1.aspx to consume a web service implemented (by 3rd party) using the Event-based Asynchronous Pattern. However, my program needs to do multiple calls to the DoStuffAsync() hence will get back as many DoStuffCompleted. I chose the overload which takes an extra parameter - Object userState to distinguish them. My first question is: Is it valid to cast a GUID to Object as below, where GUID is used to generate unique taskID? Object userState = Guid.NewGuid(); Secondly, do I need to spawn off a new thread for each DoStuffAsync() call, since I am calling it multiple times? Also, would be nice to have some online examples or tutorials on this subject. (I've been googling for it the whole day and didn't get much back) Many thanks

  Hi, I've a project where one of the requirements is fullfil the "W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0 (WCAG 1.0)". I'm now considering wich technology could I use to acomplish it, but I'm a little bit confused. Silverlight would be the easiest way, but I cannot find conclusive information about if silverlight is or isn't compilant. I've seen controls pack done in javascript that looks very nice, like DHTMLX, but again the same problem, I don't know for sure. Besides, I've always read that a website should work wihthout javascript, and use it just for improve the user experience. Thanks.

  Hi all, Googling for the past week, but cannot finally decide which python web framework would be right for me. The web app I'm about to develop would be almost completely "pure" html with js (jQuery). Server side would have to do the following: authentication session management caching web services (almost all the on page data would be pulled with jQuery through web services) secured web services (through some form of authentication; this is for remote accessing some of the web services though other web apps, desktop/mobile applications) If there is a good tutorial/guide/idea for how to do this in Django I would be most thankfull if someone could share it as I already have experience with it. The thing that made me start thinking about other frameworks is Django's built in ORM. I know I could swap it with SQLAlchemy, but wouldn't go down that road if I'm not sure all the rest of the requirements is supported. Thanks all in advance.

When I was deploying the rest api as a new web site in iis, then things worked fine. I was using the following Route api/{controller}/{id}. When I created the rest api as a web application underneath asp.net web site project, I named the web application as api. I can't access the api methods now. Can someone point what I do wrong?

  Hi Community, I've only written a few small php web apps and I'm throwing code together right now to allow for users to submit short stories. these stories will display and allow others to vote them up. The winner receives something rather valuable and I'm paranoid people are going to try to manipulate it. Debian / Apache / PHP 5.2 / jquery users are not required to login / authenticate. users can vote multiple stories up but only once for each story Is it as simple as tagging each story with an IP address and not counting other submissions from that IP?   I want to write a small PHP application for monitoring logs on a Debian server, including syslog logs and Apache/PHP messages. The problem here is that Apache user (www-data) has no access to /var/log directory. What would be the best way to grant an access to logs for PHP application? Let's assume that log files can be really large, like hundreds of megabytes. I have some ideas: Write a shell script that would be run via sudo and tail last 512 Kb of log into a separate file that can be read by application - that's ineffective, because of forking a new process and having to read data twice Add www-data to adm group (that can read logs) - that's insecure Start a PHP process via cron every minute to read logs — that's not very good, because it doesn't allow real-time monitoring. Also, this script will be started even when I don't read logs, and consume CPU time (server is in the cloud, and I'll have to pay for it) Create a hardlink for all log files with lowered permissions - I guess, that won't work because logrotate could recreate log files and they'll change inode number. Start a separate nginx/Apache server under privileged user that may read logs. Maybe anyone got a better solution?

  recently my company migrated from an in-house Exchange server to the Microsoft hosted exchange online solution. My client is Outlook 2007. Before the migration, I could see the details of the meetings when I hovered on the busy blue bar for a resource such as a conference room. I could click on the meetings and see the invite list and the contents of the meeting. Ofcourse if the meeting was marked as private I could not. however after the migration to the online solution, I cannot see the detailed information. I can still see if the room is busy or not but I can no longer see the details of that meeting. The IT folks can see the information and they claim that they can see it because they have full admin rights. It is their claim that in the hosted Exchange solution you can either have full access (admin access) and see the details or not see anything but just that the room is busy. there is no middle ground such as being able to see the details of the meeting but not having any admin rights. For some reason I believe this to be not true. Can someone please verify my doubts and inform me of what needs to be done to see that information if my IT folks are wrong? thanks

• In Outlook 2007 Rules and Alerts, EXACTLY what does "my name" mean?

  I can't find any definition of "my name" in the Outlook 2007 Rules and Alerts or on the Internet. In this case our email system presents two email addresses for me to the outside world. I'd like BOTH of these addresses to be recognized as being "me". I thought that perhaps if I understood the definition of "my name" in the rules, I could set up my mailbox(es) appropriately. Of course if "my name" actually means a single email address, then I won't be able to do so, but if it means "any email on my account" or "any account meeting [some criteria]", then I might be successful. I'd like to note a subtlety in the rules definitions. While there is a rule named "where my name is in the To or Cc box", the only rule for explicit addresses is "sent to people or distribution list" (I'm assuming that "sent to" means "in the To:" list rather than "in the To: or cc: lists"). Summing up. My preference: 1) Understanding the precise definition of "my name" so that I can use "where my name is in the To or Cc box" to capture both email addresses from my account. 2) Learning the "sent to people or distribution list" actually includes Cc: entries (I can test this myself of course) 3) Any other solution that will let me define a rule where my secondary email address will be detected in EITHER the To: or Cc: boxes.

• Could 0x800CCC0E in Outlook be caused by bad wireless connection?

  I have a computer connected to a WiFi access point/router/modem. Sometimes, I get page not found errors and similar when opening a browser window, sometimes pings fail and it looks like the router's signal isn't very good. On the other hand, I get around 4 bars of signal strength in windows and graph looks good in Inssider. I also never get dropped connection to the router. My main problem is that I often get errors (such as 0x800CCC0E) in Outlook 2010 that after some searching appear to be connected to bad server connection. I'm using GMail over IMAP and all settings are correct. I didn't have similar errors on my previous router, but I'm not 100% sure that they appeared after switching to current one. It may have worked for some time without errors. There are also around 3000 messages on the server and the size of mailbox is around 12 GiB, which may contribute to the problems. On the other hand, there are at least 24 other networks in the 2.4 GHz range which I'm using and the number may have increased since I switched routers. Should I try solving this by getting a router with stronger signal?

• Ubuntu web server cluster checks Ubuntu repository for script updates with cron

  I have a cluster of Ubuntu 12.04 web servers running a lamp stack. All of these servers are connected to a Load Balancer on Amazon Web Services. What I want to be able to do is have a dedicated Ubuntu server that I can update the PHP files on and have the other web servers check with cron to get the updates files from the repository. They don't have to use cron but that was the only thing I could think of, unless there was a way to have the updated repository tell them that it has updated files. And then how to transfer those files. Also if there is a ways for a server to check for updated files when it boots because I am going to be using auto scaling on AWS so when there is an increase in the load and another server gets created I need it to download the updated files from the repository when launched. Not sure how to transfer files from server to server.

I want to manage the few books we have at our company, and I'm looking for applications that provide a simple web interface to: Add new books. Search for books. (Not Required) Place holds on books. My ideal would be something like Delicious Library, but web based and open source. I've looked at Koha (which I could not install), Emilda, which seems to be a dead project (last emails are from 2006 and I could not install it) and VuFind which looks awesome but doesn't provide (or I could not find) an interface to add new records to the library. Any suggestions?

• Locking down a box on the web

  I'm a Java developer who is looking to put a game on the web. I'm not much of a web or server guy, though, and frankly I seem a little lost at where I should start with putting something on the web. My application works fine on my machine, and I'm sure I can make it work fine on any box I put it on. But the security of that box is pretty important. If I sign up for a standard hosting package (let's say from GoDaddy or something) can I simply tell them "make port 12345 open for communication" and let them handle the rest of the security details? If I can't, what are the things I'm going to need to know to prevent my game server from getting hacked to shreds? (Links to solid resources fine by me!) Thanks!
