  • Readline, the Input Record Separator and Ruby

    In Ruby I'm looking to read data until I reach a delimiter or end of file. I found this is possible by redefining $/ or the $INPUT_RECORD_SEPARATOR to my delimiter. However with all the "features" in the Ruby language it seems hokey to change the value of a global to do this. Also, readline used to consume the delimiter while not it is included in what is returned. Is there any other way to "read until" while consuming the delimiter that doesn't involve getting the values char by char in a loop?

  • Algorithms for finding a numerical record in a list of ordered numbers

    I have a list of incomplete ordered numbers. I want to find a particular number with as few steps as possible. Are there any improvements on this algorithm, I assume you can count the set size without difficulty - it will be stored and updated every time a new item is added. Your object is to get your cursor over the value x The first number (smallest) is s, and the last number (greatest) is g. Take the midpoint m1 of the set: calculate is x < m1, If yes then s <= x < m1 If no then m1 < x <= g If m1 = x then you're done. Keep repeating till you find x. Basically dividing the set into two parts with each iteration till you hit x. The purpose is to retrieve a numerical id from a very large table to then find the associated other records. I would imagine this is the most trivial kind of indexing available, are there improvements?

  • Anyone using NoSQL databases for medical record storage?

    Electronic Medical records are composed of different types of data. Visit information ( date/location/insurance info) seems to lend itself to a RDMS. Other types of medical infomation, such as lab reports, x-rays, photos, and electronic signatures, are document based and would seem to be a good candidate for a 'document-oriented' database, such as MongoDB. Traditionally, binary data would be stored as a BLOB in a RDBMS. A hybrid approach using a traditional RDBMS along with a 'document-oriented' database would seem like good alternative to this. Other alternative would be something like DB2 purexml. The ultimate answer could be that 'it depends', but I really just wanted to get some general feedback/ideas on this. Is anyone using the NoSql approach for medical records?

  • Search database with textbox/button, display record in detailsview and update fields

    Hello, I am trying to do all on one page. There are 3 textboxes and 3 buttons, one sqldatasource and one detailsview. Sqidatasource is configured to take parameters from textboxes and ingnore blank textboxes to be able to search by one (any) field at the time. When I do "test query" in sqldatasource - everything is working. Deatailsview is set to have sqldatasoure as datasourse. On each button I do detailsview.databind() but nothing is showing up. Need help, thank you.

  • How to read a database record with a DataReader and add it to a DataTable

    Hello I have some data in a Oracle database table(around 4 million records) which i want to transform and store in a MSSQL database using ADO.NET. So far i used (for much smaller tables) a DataAdapter to read the data out of the Oracle DataBase and add the DataTable to a DataSet for further processing. When i tried this with my huge table, there was a outofmemory exception thrown. ( I assume this is because i cannot load the whole table into my memory) :) Now i am looking for a good way to perform this extract/transfer/load, without storing the whole table in the memory. I would like to use a DataReader and read the single dataRecords in a DataTable. If there are about 100k rows in it, I would like to process them and clear the DataTable afterwards(to have free memory again). Now i would like to know how to add a single datarecord as a row to a dataTable with ado.net and how to completly clear the dataTable out of memory: My code so far: Dim dt As New DataTable Dim count As Int32 count = 0 ' reads data records from oracle database table' While rdr.Read() 'read n records and add them to a dataTable' While count < 10000 dt.Rows.Add(????) count = count + 1 End While 'transform data in the dataTable, and insert it to the destination' ' flush the dataTable after insertion' count = 0 End While Thank you very much for your response!

  • Active Mailer doesn't have the application helpers when used with delayed_job v.2

    So if I try sending an email with action mailer directly, I can use all application helpers like url_for, content_for etc, but when I try to do the exact same action [sending email] with delayed_job [send_later] I getting a delayed job fail, of undefined function content_for etc, so it is like no helpers are loaded in my ActionMailer. I am using rails 2.3.8, active_mailer 2.3.8 and delayed_job 2.0.3 Thanks!!

    Hi, I'm trying to create a file which has the following structure: - Each line has 32 bytes - Each line looks like this format string: "%10i %3.7f %3.7f\n" My Problem is the following: When i have a negative floating point numbers the line gets longer by one or even two characters because the - sign does not count to the "%3.7f".     I'm running an insert statement using OLE DB and an ICommandWithParameters. In the ICommandText, I made sure to set: params.cParamSets = n ; Then cmdTxt-Execute( NULL, IID_NULL, ¶ms, &rowsAffected, NULL ) ; Where n 1, but in my database, all I see is 1 insert happening. The docs say cParamSets is greater than one) can be specified only if DBPROP_MULTIPLEPARAMSETS is VARIANT_TRUE and the command does not return any rowsets. But I set DBPROP_MULTIPLEPARAMSETS in my DBPROPs, and its and INSERT statement so it should not return any rowsets.

    I hate these three tables that. Two tables have a many to many relationship and as such it generates a third table. I'm using Linq-to-SQL and in the .dbml file I've dragged all the folder there to the graphic surface. Here is the method I'm using to delete an Area safely.     I was told in L2S, the code for update and insert are the same, db.InsertOnSubmit(row); db.SubmitChanges(); and L2S will check to see if it is a insert or update and act approprately in the background. Is that true? How about L2E? I tested, looks like in L2E it is not like that. Maybe I did something wrong.

    I am using authlogic to do my authentication. The current model that serves as the authentication model is the user model. I want to add a "belongs to" relationship to user which means that I need a foreign key in the user table. Say the foreign key is called car_id in the user's model. However, for some reason, when I do u = User.find(1) u.car_id = 1 u.save! I get ActiveRecord::RecordInvalid: Validation failed: Password can't be blank My guess is that this has something to do with authlogic. I do not have validation on password on the user's model.
