• How to install ferret gem on Windows 7 ?

  Hi, I was trying to run an OpenSource project which requires ferret to be installed. While installing it using gem install ferret, it's giving this error - Building native extensions. This could take a while... ERROR: Error installing ferret: ERROR: Failed to build gem native extension. C:/Ruby/bin/ruby.exe extconf.rb creating Makefile nmake 'nmake' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. Gem files will remain installed in C:/Ruby/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/ferret-0.11.6 for inspection. Results logged to C:/Ruby/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/ferret-0.11.6/ext/gem_make.out So, I tried installing nmake (nmake15.exe), but the one I could find. It does not installs on Windows 7.Please help.   I'm working through Michael Hartl's tutorial trying to learn Rails for the first time, and I've run into some issues. I recently reinstalled the whole Rails Installer because I had apparently inadvertently deleted some important files. Now, when I try running a test I get the following error: sh.exe": /c/Program Files (x86)/ruby-1.9.3/bin/bundle: "c:/Program: bad interpre ter: No such file or directory I checked my PATH and attempted to use the solution outlined here: Bundle command not found. Bad Interpreter ..but putting quotation marks around "C:\Program Files (x86)\ruby-1.9.3\bin" didn't do anything for me. I ran $ rails -v and got the following output: $ rails -v ?[31mCould not find multi_json-1.3.6 in any of the sources?[0m ?[33mRun `bundle install` to install missing gems.?[0m So then I tried running $bundle install and got the following issue again: Tom@TOM-PC /c/sample_app (updating-users) $ bundle install sh.exe": /c/Program Files (x86)/ruby-1.9.3/bin/bundle: "c:/Program: bad interpre ter: No such file or directory I'd really appreciate any help -- I've spent 5+ hours today trying to get back on track and am still at a loss.   I have a C#/ASP.NET website that has some code (*.cs) files in the App_Code directory. I would like to test them using NUnit. I have written a test file with the proper [TestFixture] and [Test] annotations and have put it here: App_Code/Test/TestClassName.cs. I load up the NUnit GUI to run it but it wants me to select a .exe or .dll file. There is none in the bin folder of my project. My project does successfully run and is built and everything, but still no exe or dll file. How can I get the NUnit Gui to just run the test in that class?

  I'm currently developping a bootstrapper to deploy one of my VSTO addins. I thus created a prerequisites list before compiled it with MSBuild, but I also need to test and install the otkloadr.dll fix (KB907417). In a first time I used a custom bootstrapper package, but the package directory and files must be included with my deployment if I want to use it. In fact I really want to have a very light setup kit, with only the setup.exe and the addin.msi files... Is there a way to use a custom bootstrapper package embedded into the setup.exe ? If not, is there a standard bootstrapper package which include the KB907417 fix ?

• Windows disassembler: looking for a tool...

  Hello. I'm looking for a (preferably free) tool that can produce "proper" disassembly listing from a (non-.NET) windows PE file (*.exe or *.dll). Important requirement: it should be possible to run the listing through a windows assembler (nasm, masm or whatever) and get working exe again (not necessarily identical to original one, but it should behave in the same way). Intended usage is adding new subroutines into existing code, when source is not available. Ideally, tool should be able to detect function/segment boundaries, API calls, and generate proper labels for jumps (I can live without labels for loops/jumps, though, but function boundary detection would be nice), and keep program resources/segments in place. I'm already aware of IdaPRO(not free), OllyDBG (useful for in-place hacking, doesn't generate disassembly listing, AFAIK), ndisasm (output isn't suitable for assembler), dumpbin (useful, but AFAIK, output isn't suitable for assembler) and "proxy dll" technique. Ideas? Or maybe there is a book/tutorial that explains some kind of alternative approach?

• CURL on PHP 5.2 works in CLI but not in IIS

  I have a Windows 2003 Server running IIS with php 5.2.8, I'm trying to use CURL, and it works in CLI mode (if i execute php.exe) but it does not seem to be registered when running under IIS. The output of PHP info in both CLI and IIS show the same 'Loaded Configuration File', but under IIS it does not give the CURL info box. c:\program files\php\php.exe -i shows ... Loaded Configuration File => C:\Program Files\PHP\php.ini ... curl cURL support => enabled cURL Information => libcurl/7.16.0 OpenSSL/0.9.8i zlib/1.2.3 phpinfo() ... Loaded Configuration File => C:\Program Files\PHP\php.ini ... NOTE: This server also runs php 5.3 in c:\program files\php-5.3.0 and CURL does properly work with that installation.

I got a lot of undefined references which caused me to create libpython26_d.a, however one of the undefined references remains.   I'm using Eclipse's create InstallOptions menu to create a custom INI page with radio-buttons for repackaging the Blackberry Desktop installer. There are 2 sections for each type: "Internet" and "Enterprise". I need a user to select 1 of the 2 options and depending on their selection, the page will carry over the selection chosen in the custom page, jump to the INSTFILES page, and continue onto the end. I couldn't find any concrete documentation on getting INI pages to load in the script (I'm probably searching incorrectly), and then pass data from one page to the next (according to fields I guess?) • IIS 7.5 powershell module usage issues

  Has anyone managed to use this module with success, i'm running 32bit Windows 7, where i have opened an administrator shell using run as administrator, i have imported the WebAdministration module and then attempted to use the commands with some issues, have provided two examples here Websites I created a web site with the following command new-website -name testsite -port 80 -hostheader testsite -physicalpath c:\temp Then i attempted to get the sites details using the command get-website -name testsite but it always returns all sites, seems to ignore the -name parameter. Only way i can get the site is using a filter get-website | ? { $_.name -eq 'testsite' } | get-member When i use appcmd it works as expected using the following command C:\> C:\Windows\System32\inetsrv\appcmd.exe list site testsite AppPools When i try to list the apppools using the following command dir iis:\apppools i get the following error Get-ChildItem : Access is denied. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED)) Yet when i use appcmd as follows i get all the apppools as expected without any error C:\Windows\System32\inetsrv\appcmd.exe list apppool Has anyone successfully managed to use the WebAdministration module ? • Delphi form icons are blurry on Windows 7's taskbar (with MainFormOnTaskbar enabled)

  We have a Windows desktop application written in Delphi that works fine on Windows 7, except that the icon of the main form looks blurry in Windows' new taskbar. As long as the application has not been started the icon looks fine (i.e. when it's pinned to the taskbar). Once it has been started Windows uses the icon of the main form (instead of the .exe resource icon) and it's blurry (it looks like a 16x16 version of the icon is scaled up). The icon that we use for the .exe and for the main form are exactly the same and it contains all kinds of resolutions, including 48x48 with alpha blending. My theory is that Delphi ignores/deletes the extra resolutions of the icon when I import the .ico file for the main form in Delphi. Is there a way to prevent/fix this? What's the best way to ensure that an application written in Delphi uses the correct icon resolution in Windows 7's taskbar?

• Problems with ASP.NET State Service version; state service is 1.1, website is 3.5

  Hi there, I have a ASP.NET 3.5 website running on Windows Server 2003 and I'm using the ASP.NET State Service to manage sessions. It will appear to be working then I regularly get an error saying my code needs to have version 2.0 of the State Service running to work (I think that's what it said, I've temporarily switched back to storing sessions InProc). Refresh the page and the error goes away (for a bit, it's bound to come back). So I looked at the properties of the ASP.NET State Service in the Services interface and it's mapping to a .exe in the 1.1 framework folder: C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322\aspnet_state.exe There's a corresponding version in the 2.0 framework folder, but I don't know how to add it as a new service. I'm also not sure that adding the 2.0 version (and stopping and/or removing the 1.1 version) will solve the problem. Thanks in advance for any help anyone can provide. Mick

• Possible apache/mysql/php wrapper?

  I was tasked with writing a smallish program for data input and manipulation. My language of choice happens to be PHP. I have written out the program/site it all works fine is easily portable and everything but have one question. Is there anyway to wrap up apache/mysql/php into a bundle of one exe? I know of MoWes Portable and other options but I am looking to basically wrap everything up into a single exe without much fuss to the end user. My target users are very low on the computer savvy scale. I am trying to avoid a batch file for launching and don't really want them able to shutdown one part on accident and not another (IE shut off mysql but leave apache on).

  This is yet another question about .ico files. I have read through many pages trying to figure this out but I am unable to. When I go to Properties - Application of my Windows Form Application there is a place for me to pick the icon for my application. I have made a 32x32 icon and it takes it just fine, but the image is grainy when it is applied to my .exe file, like it is a picture that has been expanded more than it should have. 1.) Why is this? 2.) Is there any .ico file size other than 32x32 than a Windows Form Application can accept? I have tried 48x48 but it doesn't like that. I just want my .exe file to look nice!

  Hello together. I have some trouble figuring out why the following crashes (MSVC9): //// the following compiles to A.dll with release runtime linked dynamically //A.h class A { __declspec(dllexport) std::string getString(); }; //A.cpp #include "A.h" std::string A::getString() { return "I am a string."; } //// the following compiles to main.exe with debug runtime linked dynamically #include "A.h" int main() { A a; std::string s = A.getString(); return 0; } // crash on exit Obviously (?) this is due to the different memory models for the executable and DLL. Could it be that the string A::getString() returns is being allocated in A.dll and freed in main.exe? If so, why - and what would be a safe way to pass strings between DLLs (or executables, for that matter)? Without using wrappers like shared_ptr with a custom deleter.

• Implement a vpn

  I want to build an application client(client.exe) - server to do the following: when the clients run it they are thrown in a VPN and they can communicate each other within 1 applicataion. For example : clients run client.exe and they can see each other in LAN ONLY in Starcraft. From what i have read the right type of vpn for this situation is Secured Socket Tunneling Protocol: "Secure socket tunneling protocol, also referred to as SSTP, is by definition an application-layer protocol. It is designed to employ a synchronous communication in a back and forth motion between two programs. It allows many application endpoints over one network connection, between peer nodes, thereby enabling efficient usage of the communication resources that are available to that network. " Question: I don't have experience with networking programming so my question for the ones who have, is this the right approach? PS1: i don't want something done like OpenVpn, i do this as learning exercise. PS2: the application is targeting Windows and i plan to use .NET Thanks for reading the whole story, i am waiting for your replies.
