How do I access session data in Jinja2 templates (Bottle framework on app engine)?

Hello! I'm running the micro framework Bottle on Google App Engine. I'm using Jinja2 for my templates. And I'm using Beaker to handle the sessions. I'm still a pretty big Python newbie and am pretty stoked I got this far :) My question is how do I access the session data within the templates? I can get the session data no problem within the actual python code. And I could pass the session data each time I call a jinja template. But since I need the session data in the main menu bar of the site... that means I would have to pass it on every single page. Does anyone know if I can access it directly in the templates? For example I need the session data for my header links: Home | FAQ | Login or Home | FAQ | Logout Any help is greatly appreciated! :D

DotNetOpenAuth OpenIdTextBox For Google/Yahoo

If I want to integrate DotNetOpenAuth (primary for people to use their Google/Yahoo accounts to login, not act as provider) into my existing site, is this one line control good enough? <rp:OpenIdTextBox ID="OpenIdTextBox1" runat="server" /> Say, if a user wants to login as Google, I can simply set the textbox to "https://www.google.com/accounts/o8/id" and then they can login. I tried it with my Google account, it seems working and I can get the token from HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.Name. Is this "one line" solution secure enough for production? or is it a "must" that I have to use "OpenIdSelector" or "OpenIDLogin" control? I also opened the .net template and some samples, they are very complicated. There are PAPE policies, xrds.aspx (for discovery), ConsumerKey + ConsumerSecret...etc. As a newbie, I am very confused. Any tips on this will be really appreciated. Thanks

Problem creating site using Microsoft Visual Web Developer Express 2008

Hi, this is a very newbie question, sorry! I need to create an aspx website based con C# and am calling some webservices based on some DLL's I already have. Beforem purchasing Visual Studio, I decided to try Microsoft Visual Web Developer Express (is this ok?) creating a Web Application ASP.NET based on Visual C#. I created the form to enter the data which is submitted when clicking the process button. At this point I need to call stuff from the DLL, which I have added in the Solution Explorer via Add Reference, selecting the DLL from the COM list. But whenever I run the project, I always get the error "the type or namespace xxx cannot be found - maybe a using directive or assembler directive is missing" when trying to create the object. What is my stupid mistake? Thanks!

Version Control for developers new to source control

I've been writing code for a few years now and our backup strategy has been to zip the entire code directory up every few days and put it somewhere else on your hard drive, or occasionally upload it to some online file hosting service. Unfortunately the file hosting service got canceled without telling me and we lost years of backups. It's come down to the point where I finally have to learn to use version control. The only problems are My boss really doesn't like SVN, he tried it and it had a high learning curve (at least his client). We need a reliable place to host it (we can pay a reasonable amount). Can someone suggest what may be the best version control system and client for a newbie which won't be too annoying. Second what is a good remote version control service?

Passing parameters to a flash movie inserted in a VB program

Hi! I need to insert a Flash movie in a Visual Basic 2008 express form and send parameters to the movie, but am a newbie to VB. The flash movie will plot points sent by VB in a graph. I tried to insert the Shockwave Flash control in the form but cannot find it anywhere. So I inserted the webbrowser control, which I understand can be used to a similar purpose. But how would I send the values of X and Y (coordinates to plot in Flash) to the flash swf? Thanks for any help!

What I want to create is Iphone app which can view those classifieds. There will be no complicated function at first version. It will be have different categories and query and display according to the category. And if there's new classified ad, they will get push notification. What I want to know is, what should i go with ? Native or using phonegap ? Is phonegap supports push notification ? Is native app can just get the results through mysql ? or do i need to change it to sql lite ? Any speed different between native and phone gap ? Any advantages and disadvantages ? Thanks.

Date Picker Blue

I'm successfully setting a date-picker with an initial date from a plist, but I see some unwanted blue values in the month, day, and year components, presumably corresponding to current date. So if today is April 18, 2010 and initial date being set is March 19, 2008, it looks like this (bold represents the blue): January 17 2006 February 18 2007 ------------------------------ March 19 2008 ------------------------------ April 20 2009 May 21 2010 First question is: How do I get rid of the blue? And second question: Ideally, how do I get it to look like this? January 17 2006 February 18 2007 ------------------------------ March 19 2008 ------------------------------ April 20 2009 May 21 2010 Third question, totally unrelated and not as important: How could I have gotten the above to show in blue rather than bold? Cannot install xdebug with WAMP SERVER 2.1

Hi all, I use WAMP SERVER 2.1 and select PHP 5.3.3 for my system, so I select xDebug with php_xdebug-2.1.0-5.3-vc6.dll and changed name becoming php_xdebug.dll for easy way to use. Following the instructions: php.ini (in Apache folder) extension=php_xdebug.dll ... zend_extension = "C:/wamp/bin/php/php5.3.3/ext/php_xdebug.dll" xdebug.remote_enable=on xdebug.remote_handler=dbgp xdebug.remote_host=localhost xdebug.remote_port=9000 xdebug.idekey="netbeans-xdebug" However, nothing happens, there are no information related to xdebug from phpinfo. Also xdebug announce that xdebug have not installed yet (http://xdebug.org/find-binary.php). I am so worried causing too much time for configuration. I got crazy and totally gave up. Anyone have ideas to solve it, I am so appreciated what you help me. Thanks

JEE Web Applications vs Web Services

Can someone confirm or clarify for me: From what I can tell, JEE web apps consist of a Servlet and/or JSP driven dynamic web page being fed back in the HTTP response, triggered by the JEE server receiving a HTTP GET or POST request. From what I can tell, JEE web services also make use of Servlets as the web tier components, however a WS Servlet receives a SOAP message and validates the contents of those messages with whatever WSDL the Servlet is WARed with. The response is also packaged in SOAP and sent back to the requestor. So, from what I can tell, both JEE web apps and WSes use Servlets as the web components, with the only real difference being the protocol used (raw HTTP vs SOAP, which is an extension of HTTP). This is the best I could come up with - am I right? Totally wrong? Close?

Need to parse HTML document for links-- use a library like html5lib or something else?

I'm a very newbie webpage builder, currently working on creating a website that needs to change link colours according to the destination page. The links will be sorted into different classes (e.g. good, bad, neutral) by certain user input criteria-- e.g. links with content the user would find of interest is colored blue, stuff that the user (presumably) doesn't want to see is colored as normal text, etc. I reckon I need a way to parse the webpage for links to the content (stored in MySQL database), change the colors for all the links on the page (so I need to be able to change the link classes in the HTML as well) before outputting the adapted page to the user. I read that regex is not a good way to find those links-- so should I use a library, and if so, is html5lib good for what I'm doing?

htaccess redirect from root to subfolder and then mask the url?

Hello all, Two things: Firstly - I have version 2 of a website located in a folder named v2, and I want to redirect any traffic that is NOT a child of the v2 folder, to www.example.com/v2 The old site located in the root was created in iWeb and has a LOT of subfolders and sub-subfolders. So: www.example.com/v2 = New site www.example.com/Page.html www.example.com/category/Page.html ww.example.com/category/subcategory/Page.html = All generic examples of what I need to redirect. Secondly, and I don't know if this is possible, I want to hide /v2/ in the URL, so that visitors will just see www.example.com/page even though they are actually on www.example.com/v2/page Links are hardcoded to the v2 folder, like so <a href="v2/contact.html" Any help is MOST appreciated. I've spent hours trying to figure this out, but I'm only just learning about htaccess and regular expressions, and am totally confused. Thanks so much!

Basically here's the code: class ApplicationController < ActionController::Base helper :all # include all helpers, all the time protect_from_forgery helper_method :current_user_session, :current_user filter_parameter_logging :password, :password_confirmation What I assume it should do is: it should prevent any POST requests without correct authenticity_token. But when I send post request with jQuery like the one below, it works fine (there's update statement that is executed in the database)! $.post($(this).attr("href"), { _method: "PUT", data: { test: true } }); I see in console that there's no authenticity_token among sent parameters, but request is still considered valid. Why is that?

How do CSS sprites work?

I have 3 different images and want to create a sprite using CSS. I understand that will reduce HTTP requests. However, I am totally new to this concept and have no idea as to how to approach this. What would be best bet for me? Also I have seen there are some CSS sprite generators where you submit a .zip of images and it combines them. I tried doing that, but did not understood what was happening. Any guidance regarding creating and using CSS sprites would be highly appreciated. Paypal adaptive payment API call with C# .NET? Preferably with WebServices

Okay I might be entirely off track now but here goes: Our "webshop" offers two functions, buying a specific product and selling it back to us. Back-end handles if the user can sell or not. I've decided to use Paypal's adaptive payments for this one as it seems the way to go doing these kinds of transactions. I've never implemented any kind of shop so I'm totally green with this one. I only recently learned ASP.NET and have mainly developed games before moving to this kind of development. HTTP is still some level of magic to me hehe.. I might be confused but I think paypal offers a webservice with their adaptive payment API. My humble request: A nice soul who wants to share an example of implementing an adaptive payment API call with C# .NET. Why a very good PHP framework - Qcodo (or Qcubed - its branch) - is so unpopular?

I am wondering why this framework (QCodo) is almost forgotten and totally unpopular. I've started using it a few years ago and it is the only thing that keeps me with PHP. Yeah ... its development is stuck (that's why there is now more active branch Qcubed) but it is still very good piece of software. Its main advantages: Event driven (something like asp.net) no spaghetti code Powerful code generation good ORM follows DRY very simple AJAX support is fun to write Since then I wanted to be trendy and checked Django but I cannot write normal request-based web application (it just doesn't feel right). Don't believe? chess.com is written with it and surely there are plenty others. My 2 questions are: Have you heard of it (PHP people)? My task is to create two-tier client-server architecture wherein one main server (something like a directory) keeps a track of level-two servers and acts as a lookup; the level-two servers exposing some trivial functions, and finally, the clients for level-two servers. The clients ask the directory where a server is located, and then communicate with it. Using RPCGEN, we can create a pair of client-server code; however, the clients in this case need to have stubs for the directory as well as the level-two functions. Being a newbie to RPC, I'm having trouble conceptualizing the way I should code this. How can I call a function from a different server if a client is generated using a different IDL ?
