    I have a file and I don't know how big it's going to be (it could be quite large, but the size will vary greatly). I want to search the last 10 lines or so to see if any of them match a string. I need to do this as quickly and efficiently as possible and was wondering if there's anything better than: s = "foo" last_bit = fileObj.readlines()[-10:] for line in last_bit: if line == s: print "FOUND"

  • How to execute a batch file from C#?

    I didn't think this was going to be hard. I have a commmand file, d:\a.cmd which contains: copy /b d:\7zS.sfx + d:\config.txt + d:\files.7z d:\setup.exe But this line of C# wont' execute it: Process.Start("d:\\a.cmd"); Throws Win32Exception: "%1 is not a valid Win32 application." Process.Start opens .pdf files...why not execute command files? Thanks in advance, Jim

    We can replace strings in a batch file using the following command set str="jump over the chair" set str=%str:chair=table% These lines work fine and change the string "jump over the chair" to "jump over the table". Now I want to replace the word "chair" in the string with some variable and I don't know how to do it. set word=table set str="jump over the chair" ?? Any ideas?

    I have two files a.txt and b.txt (henceforth a and b). My script iterates through a, does some operation, and potentially inserts a line to b. In the event the script stops, I need it to pick up where it left off. In the example below: foo was copied to b bar was copied to b zim was not copied to b (did not pass some criteria) gaz was copied to b Script stops (for whatever reason) When script starts again, how to open a and start on line "dib"? a.txt foo bar zim gaz // <= last successful copy dib // <= I want to start here on next script execution gir b.txt foo bar gaz // <= note omission of "zim" above gaz

  • Decompressing file with gzip produces file with no read-permissions on Windows 7

    I am attempting to decompress a .gz file using the GnuWin32 gzip program in Windows 7. I have full permissions on the compressed file, and my user account is an administrator. However, I end up not having read permissions on the decompressed file. To get read permissions I would have to manually change the permissions on it through right-clicking and selecting Properties Security. I am able to do this exact same thing with no permission problems in Windows XP, which leads me to believe that Windows 7's user account control system is causing problems. Does anyone know what I can do to make things work as I would expect (read permission on the decompressed file) in Windows 7? Thanks.

However when I come to run the jsp file it doesn't work and I get an error "ResultSet not positioned properly". I see various options for how/where to publish/host it: Get my own domain and put it there Put it on Sourceforge Put it on Google Code Put it on Freshmeat ...? What are your experiences / recommendations? What's the current trend among software developers? My only requirements are that I ... can add my own logo on the website can put up some documentation there, get a nice URL that is easy to remember get SVN support (I would also be fine with just uploading a tarball for each new version, it just shouldn't force me to use CVS or any other version control system I'm not familiar with) and of course, the site shouldn't take ownership in the code etc. oh, and it should be free (ok, for registering my own domain I'll be willing to pay a little bit)

I want a maximum of 8 forked processes at a time and I don't want to read the whole filename list into RAM at once. I'm not even sure where to begin, can anyone help me out?

  • How to find all the file handles by a process programmatically?

    I have a process "x" which uses "system" C function to start ntpd daemon. I observed that ntpd are passed the open file descriptors of "x". ntpd holds on to the file descriptors even after original file is deleted. for ex: Some log files used by "x" are rotated out after sometime, but "ntpd" has file handle opened for these deleted files. Will it cause any problem? Alternatively I thought of setting "FD_CLOEXEC" flag for all the file descriptors before calling "system" function. But as we are running as an extension library to third process "x"( "x" loads our library based on some condition), there is no easy way to know about all the file descriptors process has opened. One way is to read /proc//fd and set "FD_CLOEXEC" for each file handle and reset it back after "system" function returns. I'm using Linux 2.16. Is there any other easy way to find all the file handlers? Thanks,

    Does anyone know or has experience with a pure Java library to select portfolios or do some similar kinds of quadratic programming with constraints? There seems to be a lot of tools, as already discussed elsewhere - but what I would like to use is a pure Java implementation. Since I want to call the library from within another open-source software with a BSD-ish license I would prefer LGPL over GPL. Any help is appreciated. If you don't know such libraries, which is the most simple algorithm you would suggest to implement? It has to cope with an inequality constraint (all x_i = 0) and an equality constraint (sum of all x_i = 1).

    Is there a way to queue file uploads without resorting to Flash or Silverlight, just with cleverly used forms and JavaScript? Note that the upload should be executed asynchronously. By "queuing" uploads I mean that if the user tries to upload multiple files, they should not be transferred simultaneously, but rather one at a time, in a single HTTP connection.

    I'm publishing an open-source library on CodePlex, and want the dll files to have strong names so that they can be added to GAC. What's the best option for signing? Should I use SNK? If so, everyone have access to the key. I don't have a problem with everyone having access, but is it a good approach? Should I use PFX? If so, does it mean that other people downloading the source code are not able to build the solution? What I like to do is that I am the only one person to have access to the key, so that the signed assemblies also have a level of authenticity, but meanwhile don't prevent other developers to download, build, or change the source code for themselves, and be able to post changes for the main project.
