  • Converting Outlook Express csv adress book and dbx files into Thunderbird on W7

    Recently I changed my OS from XP to W7. I made backup of any Outlook Express messages (the dbx files and adress book as CSV). On W7 I want to import that data into Thunderbird. There is option for importing from Outlook Express, but it is looking for live application data (I can't specify directory with real files myself) and there is no Outlook Express installed on W7 so I can't just import it back to it and then into Thunderbird. How can I import that data into Thunderbird?

  • Command aliases in DOS?

    How can I make command aliases in DOS like I would with bash? I found out about doskey in a forum thread, so I can do something like: doskey ls=dir /b ...and now the command ls acts a little more like ls on Unix. (I type ls so often in DOS, it isn't funny.) But how do I get this to stick between sessions? It goes away the next time I open cmd.exe. (Is there something like .bash_profile?)

Radomly because the performance can be very great, but after the next reboot or login become very poor. After another reboot or login, this might change again to better or worse.   • Problem with Jumbo Frames

    Hello, I am trying to set up jumbo frames on my gigabit home LAN but no luck so far. My setup is: * D-Link DIR-655 router, HW Revision A3, Firmware 1.21 EU * Synology DS107+, Firmware 3.0-1337 * Laptop w/ Win7 x64, external PCIx NIC managed by "Generic Marvel Yukon 88E8053 based Ethernet Controller" The router is supposed to support jumbo frames but doesn't feature any relevant setting. I set the Jumbo Packet value to 9000 on both the NIC and the Synobox but it doesn't work, ping -f -l 8972 says "Packet needs to be fragmented but DF set". Is there any other setting I overlooked, the DIR-655 doesn't actually support jumbo frames, or what else could be the problem?

  • Resealing windows XP stops PXE working

    I'm trying to capture a drive image of a windows xp pro machine. I've gone through the steps and resealed the machine. When i try and network boot the PXE instantly gives the message "PXE-MOF" and ends. I have managed to get network boot to work on this machine whenever XP is not resealed. I have tried Multiple times to get PXE to work after resealing windows, but with no luck. As soon as i unseal it, PXE works every time. I know PXE is supposed to work independent of what's on the hard drive. Is there any way that resealing windows could cause PXE to stop working.

  • Slowdown after repeated hibernation in XP SP3

    I have a Dell laptop w/dual core and 4 gigs of memory. Recently my machine has started to go off in never never land for 5 to 20 minutes at a time with a lot of hard drive churning. Eventually it comes back and everything operates properly. If I manage to have task manager up CPU usage shows no more then 3 to 5% during this process. I am on a corporate network and have very good virus protection in place. The problem seems to have increased in frequency since I let an update happen to IE8 and/or I started using hibernate more frequently. Any ideas or suggestions? TIA J

  • Unable to connect to MSN network with Adium

    I'm new to the Mac world and tried both MSN Messenger for Mac (7.0 and 8.0 beta) as well as Adium to connect to the Windows network. I've enable 'Allow all incoming connections' in the Firewall settings. Windows Live Messenger works fine when connecting through the same router on my Windows laptop. I've triple checked my password and verified it through a web browser and Windows Live. Any ideas what my issue could be?

    Using a combination of http://ubuntu-tutorials.com/2007/01/02/mount-remote-directories-securely-with-ssh-ubuntu-6061-610/ and http://www.tuxfiles.org/linuxhelp/fstab.html I figured I could mount the root of another computer to somewhere on my new laptop to make it easier to transfer files and stuff. Now, I can connect through SSH and browser the files through an ad-hoc mount - but I would like to be able to do this automatically, and so had a look at fstab. my new entry in fstab is: remote_comp:/ /var/remote_comp fuse defaults 0 0 but testing with mount -a results in the following error: /bin/sh: remote_comp:/: not found I thought the problem was because I was trying to mount the root of the other computer, but even trying sub-directories result in the same error message.

    Been searching for quite some time for a player that will cross fade correctly. What I mean by that, most players have the ability to start fading with a given time left of the song (ex:10 secs) While at times that can be fine, but is there software or a plugin for software that can tell the difference between a song that fades out, or a song that has a cold ending? So far the best one out there that I have tested is PCDJ, but I am sure there has to be something that can distinguish between endings of songs. Should add...this is for windows.   • Recover LVM2 volume group after one HDD failed

    I had two HDDs, each one containing a LVM partition which formed a volume group. Then I had two LVs, one for my / directory and one for my /home/ directory. Yesterday where I had my / dir failed. I'm trying to recover at least my /home/ dir. What I've done so far: Boot a live system Extract LVM2 metadata from the working HDD using dd Copy metadata to /etc/lvm/backup/vg0 Now I'm trying to do this: pvcreate --restore /etc/lvm/backup/vg0 --uuid "[uuid of my working hdd]" /dev/sdb2 But I always get: Couldn't find device with uuid '[uuid of broken hdd]'. Couldn't find device with uuid '[uuid of working hdd]'. Device /dev/sdb2 not found (or ignored by filtering). I confirmed that /dev/sdb2 exists and I've commented out all filtering settings from /etc/lvm/lvm.conf so I don't know what might be causing pvcreate not to find the device. So: What might be the problem? Is it even possible to restore this partition? (As I'm writing this I'm starting to think it's impossible D:) Edit: Okay, looks like I've got it figured out. I was using a Ubuntu 8.10 CD (yeah, I know it's not supported anymore) and it seems that was the problem. When I started from a Ubuntu 10.04 CD everything worked 'fine', I could mount my LVM partitions partially without problems. (Will answer the question in 4 hours. But if anyone has still got some hints/tips, please share! :)

    I have a Macbook Pro with a dead CD drive. I don't have easy access to a replacement drive. I'm trying to install Ubuntu, and I can't get the MBP to recognize a USB stick as a bootable media (I believe MBP's have issues with booting from USB in some cases). Is it possible to take a disk image and write it to a partition on the HDD so that I can then boot from that partition and then install the OS onto a third partition? Partition layout: 150GB OS X 50GB Ubuntu destination 5GB Ubuntu install image

However when I go into System Preferences Monitors the only monitor shown is the one connected to the 4850. Is there something I need to enable for it to be able to use the other card?   • Swapping Function (Fn) and Control (Ctrl) Keys on Lenovo ThinkPad W500

    I'd like to swap the Fn and Ctrl keys on my ThinkPad W500 (like many others!). I wanted to comment on http://superuser.com/questions/35228/how-can-i-switch-the-function-and-control-keys-on-my-laptop and StackOverflow question 514781 (please Google it because I don't have enough rep to include 2 hyperlinks) but I don't have enough rep to do so to comment. Numerous folks (in both the above questions and on other Google searches) indicate that Windows doesn't register the Fn key as a keypress but using a tool that gives the ASCII value of a keypress (visit www mihov com / eng / am.html) I see the Fn key returning FF (perhaps FF in this case means 'not registered'). I also see that keys like Ctrl register with one ASCII code when pressed alone and another when pressed in combo with another key. Fn will only register when pressed alone, so Windows definitely isn't seeing the combo. This took a solution like AutoHotKey off the table. I ran KeyTweak (which shows you the hardware scan codes of a keypress and the Fn key registerd as 57443). Using this program I remapped Fn to the Ctrl key; this worked perfectly. However, I suspect that because of the issue in #1, the combo of, for example, Fn + C did not execute a copy. Short of retraining my pinky I'm actually considering removing the keyboard and resoldering the connections to swap those keys. I'd love to get some input as to the root technical issue(s) and possible solutions here. Thanks

I heard MythTV can do it? I tried to do some research I couldn't find enough information. Note: There's no copyright issue here. I'm streaming Free-To-Air (FTA) channels.

  • SATA HDD stuttering on reads (LED on)

    I hope I can get some new ideas to solve the issue. What I have: AMD Phenom II X4 905e Box, Sockel AM3 Gigabyte GA-MA790XTA-UD4, AMD 790X, AM3 ATX WD Caviar GreenPower 1,5TB SATA II 4GB Kit OCZ DDR3 PC3-10666 Platinum Low-Voltage CL7 HIS HD 4670 iSilence4 DDR3 1024MB Native HDMI Dual-DVI, PCI-Express Behavior: Everything works normally excepting the HDD accesses. The drive seems to get stuck in reading data (LED drive by Mainboard is on for a while) then recovers and goes on. There is a delay of more than 30s sometimes. Often it is a matter of 5-10s. This does not seem related to the workload of the disk. What I tried so far: Use different SATA port: I switched from the SATA3 to SATA2 then the SATA driven by the CPU, no difference. Turned AHCI off, drove the SATA in IDE mode, same behavior, now I felt like the HDD has problems Deactivated energy saving settings (BeQuiet, ...), disabled 3 CPUs (msconfig) supposing some race condition or trouble with changing freqs, same trouble With Windows7 Professional 64Bit, I installed the hotfix http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb%3Ben-us%3B976418&x=8&y=9 with no success. The problem description matches what I experienced, so I felt lucky but was quite in a sad mood after being deceived. Burned the DLG 5.04f DataLifeGuard CD from WD to check the drive. All tests passed, to my surprise! Installed an Ubuntu on the same drive i386 flavour. Drive still in IDE mode, exactly the same behavior. So the OS does not matter. What I did not try yet: http://www.gigabyte.eu/Support/Motherboard/BIOS_Model.aspx?ProductID=3263 I have a F2 BIOS and there is a F3a Beta, did someone have similar issues that were solved by this update? Using another HDD drive Does someone have other hints or a similar issue? Maybe it is neither the HDD nor the Mainboard/BIOS?

  • Is there a way to make NoScript always allow .pdf files?

    I'm using Firefox with NoScript to stop the bad stuff. I've also told Acrobat Reader to load .pdf files in it's own window instead of inside the browser (because sometimes it locks up, and then I would have to restart the browser). However, whenever I come across a .pdf file, I always get a new tab completely covered by the NoScript box. Then, I can click anywhere in that page, and NoScript asks me if I'm sure I want to allow it. Then, Acrobat Reader is launched in its own window, but the Firefox tab remains, and I have to close it. It seems like NoScript is getting in the way of Acrobat's attempt to just open the file without making a new tab. Is there a way to tell NoScript to always allow .pdf files (Or any other suggestion to make that annoying blank tab go away by itself)?

  • Finder Using Nearly 100% CPU

    I'm having a problem where the Finder uses WAY too much CPU time. It's using up to 100% of one of my cores. I'm running 10.6.2 on a MacBook Pro w/ 6GB of RAM, plenty of fast (SSD) disk space. I also run DropBox and BackBlaze. I've tried disabling my third party stuff (DropBox and BackBlaze), but that doesn't seem to help. It's killing my battery life!

    We have on the company I work for an application built in Delphi V with Crystal Reports 8. We all know that Crystal & Delphi can be temperamental sometimes and the worst thing is, nearly no detail on the error. Also there is a big lack of documentation on the web about this. There's lot of people with similar issue but no solution. The error I'm talking about in particular is the one on the image below. This happens when trying to print any Crystal Reports on screen. This has happened sometimes in the clients computer and it was hard for us to replicate on our environment. Since it's an old version of Crystal it is very hard to find any helpful documentation to know the exact source of the problem.
