• How do you update the server name in source indexed symbol file?

  With the Debugging Tools for Windows you can run SSIndex.cmd against your symbol files and it will embed the command to retrieve each source code file from the TF server. We have a bunch of indexed files and recently our IT migrated our TFS 2008 installation to TFS 2010 and in the process changed the server name. Question is, how can I update all these symbol files to point to the new server? I thought SSindex used an alternate data stream named 'srcsrv' but SysInternals' streams.exe shows nothing on these symbol files even though srctool.exe shows the data.

• Is there an easy way to sign a C++ CLI assembly in VS 2010?

  Right now I am setting the Linker/Advanced/KeyFile option. I am getting the "mt.exe : general warning 810100b3: is a strong-name signed assembly and embedding a manifest invalidates the signature. You will need to re-sign this file to make it a valid assembly.". Reading from the web, it sounds like I have to set the delay signing option, download the SDK, and run sn.exe as a post build event. Surely there must be an easier way to do this common operation in VS2010?

From DLL I have to send large of amount of data to EXE, which would vary from 50 chars to 2000 chars and more(The data is recordid of records saved in DB). I thought about two options to do that: 1. Using SendMessage- In which data's will be sent in batch. 2. Use an Intermediate file to transfer data. Can anyone list out the pros and cons of methods. • Set Java Application's virtual machine max memory without access to VM parameters because of custom

  I'm using a Java application which allows you to import custom files. On import, these files are loaded into memory. The problem is that the files I want to import are very big, this causes an OutOfMemory exception. The crash log also informs me that the VM was started with the java parameter "-Xmx512m", I want to alter this to "-Xmx1024m" so that I got double the memory available. The problem is that this application is using it's own JRE folder and that there's a launcher written in C which is calling the jvm.dll file. In any way, java.exe or javaw.exe are never called and thus I cannot set these parameters myself (if I delete these executables it doesn't matter, can still run the application - this is not the case with the dll). So, my question is, can I set this VM parameter in an other way? I'm even willing to alter the JRE files if there is no other way.

  I have source in a bunch of subdirectories like: src/widgets/apple.cpp src/widgets/knob.cpp src/tests/blend.cpp src/ui/flash.cpp In the root of the project I want to generate a single Makefile using a rule like: %.o: %.cpp $(CC) -c $< build/test.exe: build/widgets/apple.o build/widgets/knob.o build/tests/blend.o src/ui/flash.o $(LD) build/widgets/apple.o .... build/ui/flash.o -o build/test.exe When I try this it does not find a rule for build/widgets/apple.o. Can I change something so that the %.o: %.cpp is used when it needs to make build/widgets/apple.o ?

• How do I get python to load .NET .dlls referenced by mixed mode .dlls?

  I have a python .pyd that is a mixed mode C++ DLL. The DLL loads fine and loads unmanaged C++ dlls without a problem, but when it tries to load the .NET dlls referenced by the managed C++ dlls it fails with this error message: Unhandled Exception: System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly '...' Copying these .NET dlls to the directory that pythod_d.exe is contained in allows the .NET libraries to load successfully, but this is not a good long term solution. Is there an environment variable I have to set or some command line option to python_d.exe that will solve my problem? Note that using IronPython or Python .NET is NOT acceptable.

It's not a typical installer in the normal sense (it doesn't add anything to the Start Menu or Program Files folders). Each time the setup program is run on Vista, after the exe terminates, Vista produces a task dialog: This program might not have installed correctly Reinstall using recommended settings This program installed correctly Is there a function I need to call from the exe or registry entry to set, to indicate to the operating system that the program installed correctly (or to at least supress this message)?   As the question states, what exactly are the implications of having the 'implicit declaration of function' warning? We just cranked up the warning flags on gcc and found quite a few instances of these warnings and I'm curious what type of problems this may have caused prior to fixing them? Also, why is this a warning and not an error. How is gcc even able to successfully link this executable? As you can see in the example below, the executable functions as expected.   How can I link the .dll file to an executable? I do not have the source for the dll nor executable. The two files operate on a 64-bit system. When the executable is ported from another system, I get "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0150002). Click OK to Terminate the program. Here's a list of the files \l2server\L2Server.exe \l2server\l2serverx64-dll.dll \l2server\Sabotage64.dll L2Server requires l2serverx64-dll.dll to execute. What i'm trying to do is to link Sabotage64.dll with L2Server.exe I used CFF Explorer as a rebuilder to no luck :(

  Hi everyone, I hadn't found a anwser on the web, so i ask to you. I am unable to run my compiled mysql driver on a deployment solution. On the pc A the app work fine when run with QtCreator, but via the .exe in the following working directory, the driver is not loaded : root/ -----/bin --------/app.exe --------/libgcc_s_dw2-1.dll --------/mingwm10.dll --------/QtCore4.dll --------/QtGui4.dll --------/QtSql4.dll -----/sqldrivers --------/libmysql.dll --------/qsqlmysql4.dll Whereas with libmysql.dll under bin/ driver is loaded. Now on the pc B, with no Qt or MySQL lib installation and with any of the 2 last working dir, the driver is not loaded. pc A : Qt 4.7 2010.05, Win 7 pc B : Win 7 Thanks for your help !

  Basically I have Host and Child program. I do not have sources for Child so I can't change anything in it. I want to launch Host from debugger, which at some point should launch Child program. I want to attach Child automatically for debugging session as well (so any breakpoints set in DLL sources loaded under Child process will hit). How to do this in Visual Studio 2008 C++ with standard WinAPI? Everytime instead of invoking this from the command prompt, i thought of writing a batch file, where in a single click will help me and also i forward this to someone who wants to execute. • Including File Paths in Ocra?

  I'm trying to figure out if there is a way to include file paths in ocra and still have the application make an exe. I have it set up so that the .exe generated by ocra would sit on the same directory level as another folder. That folder is named 'Place Files Here', and the program simply performs regex commands on text files in the 'Place Files Here' folder. I can run ocra without errors if I use only Dir.getwd, but if I try to add directory = Dir.getwd + '/Place Files Here' it won't run. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

• Why's a simple change to rt.jar causing the Java Runtime Environment to crash silently?

  This is what I'm doing: extract contents of my JRE's rt.jar extract src.zip of my JDK (same version) Now, if I copy Runtime.java from the extracted src folder and compile it using javac.exe without any modifications and then put it in the extracted rt folder to finally put everything back in a jar file using jar.exe, everything works as expected. The JRE runs fine. However, if I make the slightest change to Runtime.java and compile it and put it in rt.jar, the JRE crashes whenever I attempt to start it. This is an example of a slight change that causes the silent crash: /** Don't let anyone else instantiate this class */ private Runtime() { System.out.println("This is a test."); } Instead of: /** Don't let anyone else instantiate this class */ private Runtime() {} Could anyone tell me why this is causing my JRE to crash?   Hi, I'm trying to prompt users to run my installer, whenever they plug in my USB device. I'd like this to work on all (most?) Windows OSes. I have an autorun.inf file in the root dir of my USB key with these contents: [Autorun] ShellExecute=setup.exe Icon=setup.exe UseAutoplay=1 It doesn't seem to do very much at all. Well... it does change the icon properly, but nothing gets executed and the user doesn't get any prompts. I've tried it on both Windows 7 and Windows Server 2003. Any ideas?

  The Delphi complier often uses a *.Dll when a special delivery of code info is required to the complier/editor:- example bourland.dll is the memory manager for the Delphi complier, as I remember. And their are many other *.dll's that Embarcoo keep secret that do other things. Is their anything you know that is public information on this subject .net's un managed code could be declared in a *.pas file as a decelerations but the only way to communicate it out is calling *.dll's like P/Invoke I have ilasm.exe and ildasm.exe and a decomplier into Delphi asm code now but still getting around to learn how to use them all yet. I do not have any reference material/editorials on P/invoke at all as I cannot find anything With that I will have a good concrete plan to make a good result I do not know what *.DLL's are in P/Invoke. Do you have any documentation. I do not have any reference material/editorials on ADO.net. The Dlls that are called and any referqance matrial I could use. Best regards, J Lex Dean.

  I'm a windows user, and I'm learning C. I use Codeblocks and visual c++ 2008 express at home to write simple C command line programs (I'm a beginner) and I find really useful when codeblocks adds a few lines at the end with the time it takes (example: "Process returned 0 (0x0) execution time : 6.848 s"). I want to add this functionality to the .exe so I can 'benchmark' or 'test' the program on a few computers. I tried using time(NULL) but it only works with 1 second precision. I also found very interesting answers here (I'm actually looking for the same thing): http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2173323/calculating-time-by-the-c-code The solution proposed by Mark Wilkins, works fine on visual c++ 2008 express on my windows 64 bit PC, but the .exe does not work anywhere else. Am I doing something wrong? I would like a method to count elapsed wall time for my programs, that must have 32bit compatibility. Thanks in advance!

  I have some legacy python scripts that manage my shell environment for all the programs and plugins I am running on Linux (bash) and windows (cmd.exe). I want to port this to powershell. How do I set environment variables in powershell by calling python script that prints $env:myVar=myvalue and causes my environment variable to persist in the powershell. In Bash I can use a bash function to call my python script which prints export var=value to stdout and the function will set the environment variables in my shell. This will also work in windows cmd shell by calling a .bat file. I cannot figure out how to do this in powershell.   In order to prevent command windows from popping up during installation I am using the WIX built-in custom action CAQuietExec. First I define the command line: <CustomAction Id="A01" Property="QtExecCmdLine" Value="&quot;MyExe.exe&quot; /password [PASSWORD]" /> NB: The PASSWORD property is defined as Hidden. This prevents the Windows installer from writing the property value to the log. Then I call into the embedded WIX extension: <CustomAction Id="A02" BinaryKey="WixCA" DllEntry="CAQuietExec" Execute="immediate" Return="ignore" /> This works fine. However, when I go to the temp folder and open up the MSI log I see the following entry: CAQuietExec: "C:\Program Files\MyExe.exe" /password INCLEARTEXT I.e. the password is displayed in clear text and not hidden. How do I prevent the CAQuietExec from logging the password in clear text?

• Using windows CopyFile function to copy all files with certain name format

I am updating some C code that copys files with a certain name. basically, I have a directory with a bunch of files named like so: AAAAA.1.XYZ AAAAA.2.ZYX AAAAA.3.YZX BBBBB.1.XYZ BBBBB.2.ZYX Now, In the old code, they just used a call to ShellExecute and used xcopy.exe. to get all the files starting with AAAAA, they just gave xcopy the name of the file as AAAAA.* and it knew to copy all of the files starting with AAAAA. now, im trying to get it to copy with out having to use the command line, and I am running into trouble. I was hoping CopyFile would be smart enough to handle AAAAA.* as the file to be copied, but it doesnt at all do what xcopy did. So, any Ideas on how to do this without the external call to xcopy.exe?
