    I have a newbie Linux programming question. Suppose I have a project that uses Autotools for compiling and deployment, and I have data files that are to be installed in a location like /var/something or /usr/share/something etc., but in Autoconf, I can change these installation paths. How should the program find these files? How does it know where they are actually installed (if anywhere, since the program should work even if not installed, but run from where it was built)?

  • How to get informative compile error messages when using flexmojos-maven-plugin?

    I'am using flexmojos-maven-plugin to build my Flex module. So on the compile phase I'm getting org.apache.maven.plugin.MojoExecutionException: Error compiling! with no information on where (on what source file) the error happens and what is nature of the compile error. I'll appreciate if anyone can instruct me on how to make flexmojos-maven-plugin print more information about compile errors.

  • How do I fix my Ruby installation

    Hi all, I rather cleverly (or not in hindsight) installed RVM, which kept hanging whilst compiling Rubies. I have removed the .rvm directory but now my system has reverted to Ruby 1.8.7 i.e. when I type: ruby -v which ruby they both point to 1.8.7. How do I get the ruby command to point to my 1.9.1 installation, which is located in /usr/local/lib/ruby/1.9.1? I'm on OSX 10.6. Thanks Robin

    I want to supply the shared libs along with my program rather than using the system's: ldd says my program uses these shared libs: linux-gate.so.1 = (0xf7ef0000)(made by kernel) libc.so.6 = /lib32/libc.so.6 (0xf7d88000)(libc-2.7.so) /lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0xf7ef1000)(ld-2.7.so) I have successfully linked ld-xxx.so by compiling like this: gcc -std=c99 -D_POSIX_C_SOURCE=200112L -O2 -m32 -s -Wl,-dynamic-linker,ld-2.7.so myprogram.c But I have not managed to successfuly link libc-xxx.so. How can I do that ?

  • Learning to read GCC assembler output

    I'm considering picking up some very rudimentary understanding of assembly. My current goal is simple: VERY BASIC understanding of GCC assembler output when compiling C/C++ with the -S switch. Just enough to do simple things such as looking at a single function and verifying whether GCC optimizes away things I expect to disappear. Does anyone have/know of a truly concise introduction to assembly, relevant to GCC and specifically for the purpose of reading, and a list of the most important instructions anyone casually reading assembly should know?

    Hi I am looking looking into the options for tweaking the performance of JBoss 5.1.0 and one of the options available to me is to disable the generation of debug information when compiling JSPs.     Does anyone have experience developing with ESQL/C for INFORMIX-SQL, as in calling C funcs within "Perform" screen generator and "ACE" report writer? I have ISQL without ESQL/C. I experimented compiling a perform screen, where in the instructions section I put "ON BEGINNING CALL userfunc() END" and although I don't have ESQL/C, the Perform screen successfully compiled without errors!.. Apparently, the compiler didn't reject the C call even though there's no ESQL/C or C program linked.

    When compiling some working code on Fedora 11, I am getting this error: /usr/include/c++/4.4.1/cstdarg:56: error: ‘::va_list’ has not been declared I am using: [doriad@davedesktop VTK]$ g++ --version g++ (GCC) 4.4.1 20090725 (Red Hat 4.4.1-2) Does anyone know what the problem could be?   • Managing conflicting ivy repositories (in eclipse)

    I've got eclipse workspaces for my full time job and my home test work that are both set up with ivy (and using ivyDE). However, I'm finding that I'm getting strange behaviour and conflicts between the different workspaces - issues like not being able to find certain dependencies, or not compiling etc. Is there a way in ivy or ivyDE to set the home .ivy2 directory so that I can split my workspaces? At the moment, I'm alternating different directories for my .ivy2 cache.
