  There is an excellent technical whitepaper on the integration roadmap for Oracle business intelligence enterprise edition and the Oracle Hyperion enterprise performance management system  (download at this link).  This document lists the integration points among all current releases of Oracle BI EE with EPM System releases: with live links to other relevant documentation also provided. You may also be interested in the overall Hyperion EPM System Documentation Resources which can be found from the Doc Portal. And, there are two new tools for EPM @ MyOracleSupport  {this needs your oracle logon} : Cumulative Feature Overview Tool This new tool offers a simple way to determine the features developed between releases to assist you in your upgrade implementations. The tool helps you to plan your upgrades by providing concise descriptions of new and enhanced solutions and functionality that are added between your current and target releases. With the Cumulative Feature Overview Tool, you can quickly and easily find information about new features for each EPM System product. Defects Fixed Finder Tool This new tool provides an efficient way to review the defects fixed in patch set updates, patch set exceptions, and patch sets for major releases, starting with Release 11.1.1. The tool helps you plan patch implementations by providing concise descriptions of defects fixed after your current release. The Defects Fixed Finder enables you to easily find information about defects fixed for each EPM System product.

• What are some practical uses of the "new" modifier in C# with respect to hiding?

  A co-worker and I were looking at the behavior of the new keyword in C# as it applies to the concept of hiding. From the documentation: Use the new modifier to explicitly hide a member inherited from a base class. To hide an inherited member, declare it in the derived class using the same name, and modify it with the new modifier. We've read the documentation, and we understand what it basically does and how it does it. What we couldn't really get a handle on is why you would need to do it in the first place. The modifier has been there since 2003, and we've both been working with .Net for longer than that and it's never come up. When would this behavior be necessary in a practical sense (e.g.: as applied to a business case)? Is this a feature that has outlived its usefulness or is what it does simply uncommon enough in what we do (specifically we do web forms and MVC applications and some small factor WinForms and WPF)? In trying this keyword out and playing with it we found some behaviors that it allows that seem a little hazardous if misused. This sounds a little open-ended, but we're looking for a specific use case that can be applied to a business application that finds this particular tool useful.

The app will probably be a large but technically simple business application backed by a web service. So, here's the question as I see it: What is currently the strongest cross-platform mobile development tool that supports iOS? Would you choose it over native development tools? If you choose native, contrast it with a cross-platform tool you've used. In addition, For a project of the type we're expecting, what's the level of effort for your chosen tool versus other tools? What's the actual level of support of the tool for other platforms and their unique look and feel, capabilities, etc.? How thorough is the documentation of the product? How well do you like the development experience itself, e.g. the language, tools, documentation? Is it something you would choose to do long-term? I'll put a bounty out unless I get fantastic answers.

  Background I have no idea how to use an API. I know that all APIs are different, but I've been doing research and I don't fully understand the documentation that comes along with them. There's a programming competition at my university in a month and a half that I want to compete in (revolved around APIs) but nobody on my team has ever used one. We're computer science majors, so we have experience programming, but we've just never been exposed to an API. I tried looking at Twitter's documentation, but I'm lost. Would anyone be able to give me some tips on how to get started? Maybe a very easy API with examples, or explaining essential things about common elements of different APIs? I don't need a full-blown tutorial on Stack Overflow; I just need to be pointed in the right direction. Update The programming languages that I'm most fluent in are C (simple text editor usually) and Java (Eclipse). In an attempt to be more specific with my question: I understand that APIs (and yes, external libraries are what I was referring to) are simply sets of functions. Question I guess what I'm trying to ask is how I would go about accessing those functions. Do I need to download specific files and include them in my programs, or do they need to be accessed remotely, etc.?

One additional measure they recommend at https://support.google.com/mail/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=81126#authentication reads as follows: Because Gmail can help users automatically unsubscribe from your email, we strongly recommend the following: Provide a 'List-Unsubscribe' header which points to an email address where the user can unsubscribe easily from future mailings (Note: This is not a substitute method for unsubscribing). Documentation for List-Unsubscribe is found at http://www.list-unsubscribe.com/. From this documentation I expect a button to be provided by a supported mail client. I have tested the 'List-Unsubscribe' header and it does not appear to provide the button. I have tested in both Gmail and OS X Mail. I tested with an http address and with both an email address and an http address. The format of the header is as follows: List-Unsubscribe: <mailto:[email protected]>, <http://domain.com/member/unsubscribe/[email protected]?id=12345N> No button appears in any test. My questions: How widely is List-Unsubscribe supported? Should a button be appearing somewhere, or does something else have to be present? I have seen a comment that even if the button is not present, services like Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail/Windows Live would give higher regard to email having the header. Thus it might be worthwhile for this aspect alone. Please note that our standard email footer already contacts instructions and a link to allow unsubscribing from our email. Finally, is it worth while to implement this header? (That is, any downsides?)

• Should I listen to my employer and use CASE tools?

  My employer (Not a Developer) thinks that CASE tools will help us improve our development process and documentation. I am not sure about that, we are a small team of 5 developers building mobile banking solutions for local clients. I think CASE tools will be a waste of time and money as they need to be purchased and we will need some time before we get used to them and be efficient working with them for modeling and stuff. Code generation is another issue, I really think that the CASE generated code won't be as good as code written by good developers. I think that if we stick with agile princeliness, design patterns, use TDD, and keep our code clean. we should be good. And as far as Analysis and Design, I think simple UML diagrams on whiteboard should do the trick. Documentation is good and important, but should be made as little as possible and we should not focus on Docs and forget the code. This is what i think. Am I correct? or should I listen to my employer and start researching for an appropriate CASE Tool?

• Should business services cross bounded contexts?

  Firstly, I am following the convention that a bounded context is synonymous to a department, or possibly one department has 1 to many bounded contexts. We have a client consultancy department that has a Documentation Service. Documents are stored in the Document Store Service (which is where all documents in the company are stored - it is a utility service), and the Documentation Service stores information about that document (a business service). As it was designed for the client consultancy, it is information relevant to them. Now health and safety need somewhere to store information about a document. This is different information to client consultancy, but I have been instructed to extend the existing service to account for this extra information. I feel this service is now crossing a bounded context. My worry is that all departments will eventually store there information in here and the service will become bloated, trying to be all things to all departments. Each document record will only store a subset of the information because it will only belong to one department. It will get worse when different departments want to store the same information but refer to it in a diferent ways, or when two departments want to store different information that they refer to in the same way. In my understanding, this is exactly the reason for bounded contexts. I feel each department should have it's own business service for information about a document, but use the same utility service to actually store the document. What would be the correct approach?

  Thoughts on streamlining the process of getting someone up to speed when they join a project as a new hire; or as is common in some companies, switch from one project to another: Has anyone heard of a strategy (including emphasis towards consistent, ongoing documentation) that would bring a user up to speed quickly? Has there been any thought given to focused documentation, specific to a role within a project? Or formalized mentoring within a project, that goes beyond a “system walkthrough”?   Often it's overlooked what time is wasted when a senior level worker is brought on board.  It's assumed that they will know the right questions to ask. They are the type of people that normally learn quickly, and in their own ways, so let them get by with what's out there.   Having a user without a computer will cost you measurable worker hours, making it an easy target to shoot at (and rightly so). Not getting them up to speed as quickly as possible is an efficiency issue, that seems to have become an industry standard as an accepted loss. Given the complexity of the projects within most companies, and the frequency with which users are shifted from one project to another based on need; I think this is an area that bears consideration.

  JavaFX 2.2 has a "snapshot" feature that enables you to take a picture of any node or scene. Take a look at the API Documentation and you will find new snapshot methods in the javafx.scene.Scene class. The most basic version has the following signature: public WritableImage snapshot(WritableImage image) The WritableImage class (also introduced in JavaFX 2.2) lives in the javafx.scene.image package, and represents a custom graphical image that is constructed from pixels supplied by the application. In fact, there are 5 new classes in javafx.scene.image: PixelFormat: Defines the layout of data for a pixel of a given format. WritablePixelFormat: Represents a pixel format that can store full colors and so can be used as a destination format to write pixel data from an arbitrary image. PixelReader: Defines methods for retrieving the pixel data from an Image or other surface containing pixels. PixelWriter: Defines methods for writing the pixel data of a WritableImage or other surface containing writable pixels. WritableImage: Represents a custom graphical image that is constructed from pixels supplied by the application, and possibly from PixelReader objects from any number of sources, including images read from a file or URL. • UDK - How to make sure a PhysicalMaterial mask actually works?

  Hello, I have been reading the documentation for UDK about physical materials and masks. I have my 1bit BMP mask, and the two physical material assets I want to shoot off in the black and white channels. I have applied my material to both a rigid body and to a skeletal mesh and neither apparently uses the mask. If I assign a regular physical material (one that doesn't use a mask) then it will work fine, but this defeats the point because it gives only one hit reaction. In the documentation it states that it is possible to extend a class on which we want to use a physical material based on the KActor class's usage. How to do that? Here is the quote: "The following properties [ie, ImpactEffect - Particle system to spawn at the point of impact + ImpactSound - Sound to play when an impact occurs] allow you to attach sounds and effects to physical collisions. These only work on classes which support them, which at the moment is only KActor. By looking at the implementation in KActor though, you can add this functionality to other classes (or you can subclass KActor)." Essentially, how to make sure a PhysicalMaterial mask actually works? What code could be added to a skeletal mesh class perhaps, to get it going? Any help appreciated.

  This is useful to troubleshoot issues related to Node Manager, such as problems starting a Managed Server or reasons a server could be (re)started. To change the Log Level of Node Manager, you need to edit the nodemanager.properties file. This is usually located at: <MIDDLEWARE_HOME>/wlserver_10.3/common/nodemanager What you need to modify is property: ...LogLevel=INFO... Information about the appropriate values for this property is available in the Node Manager Documentation at 10.3 WebLogic Documentation (and in further releases) which states: LogLevel: Severity level of logging used for the Node Manager log. Node Manager uses the same logging levels as WebLogic Server. Default value: INFO However, this is incorrect. WLS has its own implementation of LogLevel, but Node Manager uses the standard Log Level from the java.util.logging.Level class. Therefore, the possible values for Node Manager LogLevel, in descending order are: SEVERE (highest value) WARNING INFO CONFIG FINE FINER FINEST (lowest value) The highest value provides only messages at the severe level. The warning level provides warning messages and severe messages, and so on. Besides those levels, ALL and OFF are also accepted. For example, if you only want Severe messages to be logged, select SEVERE. If you need the most detailed tracing available, select FINEST. It worked ok in testing, but in production it failed with error  "Maximum number of items that can be serialized or deserialized in an object graph is '65536'. • NFS mount of /var/www to OS X

  I have spent 2 hours trying to create an NFS mount from my Ubuntu 10.04 LTS server to my OS X desktop system. Objective: three way file compare between the code base on the Mac, the development system on the local Linux test system, and the hosted website. The hosted service uses cpanel so I can mount a webdisk - easy as pie - took 10 seconds. The local Ubuntu box, on the other hand - nothing but pain and frustration. Here is what I have tried: In File Browser, navigate to /var/www/site and right-click. Select share this folder. Enter sharename wwwsite and a comment. Click button "Create Share". Message says - you can only share file systems you own. There is a message on how to fix this, but the killer is that this is sharing by SMB. It will change the LFs to CR-LFs which will affect the file comparison. So forget this option. In a terminal window, run shares-admin (I have not been able to convince it to give me the "Shared Folders" option in the System Administration window - Maybe it is somewhere else in the menu, but I cannot find it) define an NFS export. Enter the path /var/www/site, select NFS enter the ip address of the iMac and save. On the mac, try to mount the file system using the usual methods - finder, command line "mount" command - not found. Nothing. Tried restarting the linux box in case there is a daemon that needs restarting - nothing. So I have run out of stuff to do. I have tried searching the documentation - it is pretty basic. The man page documentation is as opaque as ever. Please, oh please, will someone help me to get this @38&@^# thing to work! Thanks for reading this far... PG.
