Where do you like to put system configuration files (not the cfengine language) for cfengine to copy into place?

RTF File Opens as Read Only from Document Management System (Does not happen for all users)

We have a third party system in place that as one part of its duties hosts RTF files that a user can open, make changes to, and save back into the document management system. Recently we have begun upgrading users to Office 2007 from 2003. We are now hearing that when some users open these documents, they open as Read Only (even though there is no document protection in place and the files are set for Unrestricted Access). Other users though, who also have Word 2007, report no problems. There were no problems for anyone when Word 2003 was being used. I'm sure it's a setting in Word but I'm having a lot of difficulty in identifying where the issue could be. Looking for any assistance on why these RTF files are opening as Read Only for some and not for others when using Word 2007. Thanks! Dave

We have implemented the Juniper SRX550 in our company. Now we have one issue that how to restrict the internal user download speed from internet. Take one example that i want to restrict the end user with IP:192.168.1.20/32 downloading speed up to 1M via my external port ge-0/0/6.0. nsclient++ intermittent connection refused on same subnet

I have setup Nagios and nsclient++ on a number of my Windows servers. They are all in the same subnet so no routing or firewall stuff is taking place in between the endpoints, and I have verified that the firewalls on the servers are not causing trouble. The problem is that the scheduled checks sometimes fail with "connection refused" and sometimes work! It is a frustrating problem to resolve because I do not know what to look for. One place I did look is in the nsclient++ logs, where I am seeing this recurring error: ...\trunk\modules\CheckSystem\PDHCollector.cpp:148: Failed to query performance counters: \238... This sounds promising, but I couldn't find much on Google about this error as it pertains to NSClient++

Outlook sends uninvited images as attachments

Outlook is always sending along 2 pictures (image001.png and image002.gif) with my mails. Even if I don't attach any images. How do I fix this? Thanks. Win8/7/XP print spooler not getting along with Zebra ZT230 via WIFI

I have a graphics-intensive 4"x6" label I'm printing to the ZT230. I'm printing multiple (10) copies. When connected via USB, all goes well. However, when connected via wifi, I only get 2 of the labels. A wireshark capture shows that at some point in the process my computer (presumably my windows spooler) is sending a reset packet, which, I believe, would pretty much kill the print job. I'm getting the same results on Win8, Win7 and WinXP. The print job was originally generated on Zebra's ZebraDesigner2 software. For easier diagnosis, I captured it to a .prn file. Convert Mac font to Windows format?

I have a font that was used on Mac OS X 10.5. Mac recognizes it as a font file. Windows Vista shows it as a "File". Changing the file extension doesn't work. I tried both .otf and .ttf and neither worked. (Surprise! I didn't thinks so, but I'd be a fool for asking if that was the answer, so I tried...) Perhaps I need to try a different extension? Are there any utilities to convert the font? A Windows equivalent? It's called Franco. (FrancoNormal, actually.) Thanks. EDIT: DFontSplitter didn't work. I saw something online about "data fork" and "resource fork" that has to match up. Can someone please explain that? Do I need both for a font conversion? What do I tell my graphic designer to send me? EDIT 2: The font doesn't work when downloaded to Mac OS X either. (A different machine from the original.) "Get Info" reveals that there is no file extension, leading me to believe that this is the newer font format. Where wold I find the the "data fork" and "resource fork" on the Mac? I want to be able to tell the designer exactly where to look. EDIT 3: DFontSplitter works on the original computer but not on my PC. I converted and emailed myself the fonts from the graphic designers laptop. I guess it has to do with the data being stored in a "fork" whatnot. Thanks, Matt for that article. Recommendation for email setup for programatically sending lots of emails

To clarify I have an app that notifies users via email when certain actions take place (I am not spamming as the user has opted in to the notifications and can change that option at any time). Because of number of emails that needs to be sent, Gmail, Yahoo, etc will not work. Unless I am mistaken services like MailChimp, Lyris, etc will also not fit this need since every email is sent one at a time and is very specific to the user and action that took place. What I really want is something that would allow me to be able to call some mail function, give it a recipient, from, message and subject, and not have it be blocked by the email service. This can be a free or paid service. I have server access so I can install something if necessary as well but I don't know much about email services and fear if I do it myself, I'll get blocked by some other player like my VPS host or ISP or something.

One-way forest trust between geographically distributed forests using Server 2008 R2

Hi all, I'm planning out a joinder between two domains, as would take place with contracting companies. Forests A and B exist in distant sites, and there is to be a one-way forest trust so that domain users in Forest A can be authenticated on machines in Forest B. In order to facilitate this, each forest's domain controller must be able to contact each other in order to set up & confirm the trust, but my question is what underlying networking magic must take place beneath it. So far the prevailing approach has been to maintain a VPN connection between the two sites, but the technet documentation seems to indicate that DNS forwarding may be the way to go. Is this the case? Furthermore, if DNS will suffice, does that mean that there must be a server running DNS on boundary servers in each domain so that they can be reached from across the internet? How must they be configured? Thanks!

I am going to install a new SQL server 2008 instance on my development/testing machine. My machine have one 7200rpm 500GB SATA Disk (C:OS) and one Intel X25-G2 80GB SSD(D:). Details machine config is as follow: CPU:i7 860 RAM:8GB Microsoft said I have an option to place following directories in different disk. So I plan to place User database & Temp DB on SSD and rest of it on traditional disk. Is it a good choice for gaining a performance boost in fast SSD? OpenVPN - Ubunut 10.04 - Client Can't Connect to Server - Linux Route Add Command Failed

I suppose this could be asked on Server Fault as well, but it is specific to the client so I thought I'd start here. I have keys for a OpenVPN server already in place. I have used these keys to connect already, but using a Windows XP machine. Go frame-by-frame through a movie with a precise timer

Hello, world: I have a video I made for physics class, which I intend to use to measure just how long an event took to take place. I can find the start frame and end frame easily using VLC's frame-by-frame feature. However, VLC's timer seems only to be precise to a single second, giving me no more precise an answer than "5 seconds." Is there a way in VLC, or any other program, to identify at precisely what time a particular frame in a video takes place? I have easy access to Ubuntu and Windows, and acquire a Mac if need be. If precise timer is not available, what number frame I am on will also work, since I know the framerate.

Haproxy not properly passing on X-Forwarded-For header

I have backend web servers that receive requests by way of haproxy-nginx-fastcgi. The web app used to see multiple ip's coming through in the X-Forwarded-For header, chained together with commas (most original IP on the left). At some point in the recent past (just noticed, so not sure what caused it) something changed, and now I'm only seeing a single IP passed in the header to my web application. I've tried with haproxy 1.4.21 and 1.4.22 (recent upgrade) with the same behavior. Haproxy has the forwardfor header set: option forwardfor Nginx fastcgi_params config defines this header to be passed to the app: fastcgi_param HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR $http_x_forwarded_for; Anyone have any ideas on what might be going wrong here? EDIT: I just started logging the $http_x_forwarded_for variable in nginx logs, and nginx is only ever seeing a single IP, which shouldn't ever be the case, as we should always see our haproxy ip added in there, right? So, issue must either be in nginx handling of the variable coming in, or haproxy not building it properly. I'll keep digging... Camera Canon pal DC95 not being able to get cd contents

Hey! A friend of mine recorded a family event with his Canon pal DC95. This camera records to a mini cd. I saw the cd being played in the camera (which was hooked up to a tv) but when I place the cd's in my pcs cd player I see nothing. Like if the cd had nothing on it. I tried downloading the manual of the camera (maybe I have to do something to the cd) but I can't find it online. I really want to get the videos on the cd so I can pass them to some other friends. Anyone know how I can achieve this? Please help me out :) Thanks. PS: Just a reminder. I know that the cd's contain stuff, but when I place the cd in the drive I just see a blank cd.

Monitoring outgoing messages using EXIM

I work as an IT guy in a law firm. I am recently asked to make a system wherein all the outgoing emails coming from our server to our clients will be put on hold first and wait for approval before it gets sent to the client. Our mail server uses Exim (that's what it says in cPanel). I am planning to create filters where the outgoing emails will be forwarded to an editor account. Then, the editor will review and edit the contents of the email. When the editor already approves the email, it will then get sent to the client by the editor but still using the original sender in the "From:" and "Reply-To:" field. I found some pointers from this site = http://www.devco.net/archives/2006/03/24/saving_copies_of_all_email_using_exim.php. Once the filters are in place, I want to make a simple PHP interface for the editor to check the forwarded emails and edit them if necessary. The editor can then click on an "Approve" button that will finally deliver the message using the original sender. I'm also thinking that maybe a PHP-less system will be enough. The editor can receive the emails from his own email client edit them and simply send the email as if he is the original sender. Is my plan feasible? Will there be issues that I have overlooked? Does it have the danger of being treated as spam by the other mailservers since I'll be messing up the headers?

What are the correct set of DLLs and placement for SSL support in mIRC on 64 bit Windows?

I am using mIRC 6.35 on a fresh install of Windows 7 64-bit. No matter what versions of the OpenSSL DLLs I use, nor where I place them, I cannot get mIRC to work with SSL; I get the "ssl not supported" error. The recommended DLLs on mIRC's help page (/ssl.html on the mIRC site) do not work no matter if I put them in the mIRC Program Files folder or anywhere else. Same with the DLLs from http://www.slproweb.com/products/Win32OpenSSL.html which also require Visual C++ runtimes. I am unsure if I need the 32bit DLLs (because mIRC itself is 32 bit), or the 64-bit DLLs, nor where to correctly place them. (Perhaps I currently have a case of incorrect DLLs in a path I am not aware of overriding the other placements...) Does ANYONE have any tips for 'debugging' this, or do they themselves have it working? Thanks in advance!

Recurring events repeatedly saves a draft every minute

Using Outlook 2010, some of my recurring (planned, not drafts) events is saving a draft to my Drafts folder every single minute as long as it's active. An example taken from real life is that I have a calendar entry (Appointment) occuring every day from 24-09-2012 until 28-09-2012 from 08:00 to 16:00 (GMT+1) with a blue category, only one participant (me) with subject but without a place. So every minute from 24-09-2012 until 28-09-2012 from 08:00 to 16:00, but not from 16:00 to 08:00, a new draft is automatically saved in my Drafts folder. How do I get rid of that behaviour? Addition here: Removing the offending event just allows a new one to take its place. There doesn't seem to be much on the sites - Microsoft calls it a "personal" issue, but there are more and more instances.

WPA Enterprise Wireless Bridge

I live in college housing at a university with wifi available. unfortunately, my bedroom(where I'd like to place my PC) gets little to no reception. I'd like to place a router in the strongest spot and rebroadcast. I understand this can be done with DD-WRT/etc, but this particular network is WPA Enterprise with my own personal username/password. I can't find any concrete evidence that I can get my router to act as a repeater for this encryption. I don't currently have a router to test it on, otherwise this would be easy, I just don't want to buy a router if it will be worthless to me. Thanks for your help

Annoying trackpad freeze on MacBook [solved]

NOTE: Question marked answered because it was forced after being put up for bounty. Actual solution was to have Apple repair it. Trackpad usually works, but sometimes stops responding for around 5 seconds and then suddenly starts working again. Seems to happen when I switch between typing and moving + button-clicking and also when I do a lot of double-clicking. Tried turning off the "Ignore accidental trackpad input". Apple replaced the keyboard/mouse under warranty. Problem remains. Any ideas? Edit: White non-unibody Late-2008 13" MacBook - fully up-to-date OS. Doesn't seem to matter if it is plugged in or not. Edit: Updated to Snow Leopard - seems to have made it worse. Edit: Applying even a little pressure to the left palm rest creates this condition. Apple replaced the top case again and this time it seems to have fixed it. Although, it looks like they may have added a spacer on the left palm rest to "fix" it.

Where is the best location to keep shared-developer website files in the linux hierarchy?

I just started hosting files for a website on my server, and I'm not sure where is an appropriate place to keep them. At the moment, I have them in /var/www/name.of.virtualhost.site/www/. That's obviously not secure because anything below the final public /www/ folder is also available since the /var/www/ contents are already being served up. For example, /var/www/name.of.virtualhost.site/docs/site_policies.txt is accessible via something like defaultsite.com/name.of.virtualhost.site/docs/site_policies.txt. So where is a good place to store the files that make up a website? (when it's a site that only I'm developing, I can obviously just stick them in /home/my_username/sites/name.of.virtualhost.site/, but that doesn't work well when I want other developers to be working on the site's files as well) I'm running a LAMP stack, not that I expect it to matter.

ESXi Guests will not boot on IBM x3550 M3

I have a problem with Guests not booting under VMWare ESXi 5.0 on my IBM x3550M3 server. VM Host Server: IBM x3550 M3 7944AC1 server w/ 2x Intel Xeon E5607 2.27Ghz CPUs ESXi 5.0.0 Build 623860, built for IBM Hardware downloaded from IBM Storage: 2x500GB SAS local storage 8GB RAM Vt is verified to be ENABLED Server Health Status: Normal The ESXi host boots just fine. The Client connects just fine. Guests can be configured but do not successfully boot. The initial guest memory consumption jumps up to 560MB and drops down to 40MB after a few seconds. Initial CPU usage is 1 full CPU (3000Ghz per the chart) and immediately drops downm to 29Mhz. Guests do not display any output in the Console tab but show a state of 'Powered On'. VMs are listed as Version 7 and the behavior is duplicated across all availabled Guest OS flavors. Problem also duplicated when server is booted up in Legacy Only mode. Logs do not contain anything particularly suspucious. Edit: No firewalls, routers, or VLANs in between the client and server. Edit 2: We have tried to Boot Guest into BIOS screen at Next Boot checkbox in the Guest Setting. Was not successful. Edit 3: 500GB datastore with 1 40GB VM on it. Plenty of space.

I really enjoy listening to music, and because of this i have a lot of sources for it. This is not always a good thing since i have my music stored on a lot of devices ( home computer, work computer, online storage, ipod ) and sometimes its a bit difficult to have the same music in all places. Sometimes i dont have the same songs in all the places, i make a playlist in one place and want it in the other place etc. How do you keep your music in sync on all your devices. PS: i use both windows and linux.

Can't access certain web sites - reset router, any ideas?

EDIT: This problem was resolved by my ISP - had to do with damaged fiber in one of their locations. Thanks to everyone that helped. Not sure if this is the right site (I'm a StackOverflow user) so I thought I'd give it a shot. I'm having trouble connecting to certain sites on any of the 3 machines that are on my LAN. The following sites are returning "Problem Loading Page - The connection has timed out" Sourceforge.net CNet.com Microsoft.com OpenDNS.com even my company's webiste I was worried about possible malware/virus, but I don't think that is the case (given the inability to access my company's site and the fact that all 3 machines are having the same issues.) I've tried with IE8, FF, and Chrome I have reset my router (WRT54G) and my machine(s) multiple times. EDIT: It is also worth noting that this page spins constantly and no avatars show up (I'm assuming it is trying to access gravatar.com with no success.) EDIT: I have the same issues directly connected to the modem. So, any router config is probably not the issue I'm a programmer, not a network guy - any ideas?
