  • Which is graphical free diff tool i can use with mercurial and eclispe

    I am new to version control system and in my new job they are using mercurial. All other commnads are easy to type from linux but i get to problem with i have to do idff merge of documents with diffput and diffget. I am using the eclispe and have used the mercurial plugin for eclipse. So far its commiting the changes but i am not getting anything , where i can see the two files for merging. Any ideas

  • Software architecture for two similar classes which require different input parameters for the same method

    I am writing code to simulate a supply chain. The supply chain can be simulated in either an intermediate stocking or a cross-docking configuration. So, I wrote two simulator objects IstockSimulator and XdockSimulator. Since the two objects share certain behaviors (e.g. making shipments, demand arriving), I wrote an abstract simulator object AbstractSimulator which is a parent class of the two simulator objects. The abstract simulator object has a method runSimulation() which takes an input parameter of class SimulationParameters. Up till now, the simulation parameters only contains fields that are common to both simulator objects, such as randomSeed, simulationStartPeriod and simulationEndPeriod. However, I now want to include fields that are specific to the type of simulation that is being run, i.e. an IstockSimulationParameters class for an intermediate stocking simulation, and a XdockSimulationParameters class for a cross-docking simulation. My current idea is take the method runSimulation() out of the AbstractSimulator class, but to put a runSimulation(IstockSimulationParameters) method in the IstockSimulator class, and a runSimulation(XdockSimulationParameters) method in the IstockSimulator class. I am worried however, that this approach will lead to code duplication. What should I do?

  • Upgrades from Beta or CTP SQL Server Software is NOT Supported

    As of this writing, SQL Server 2008 R2 has released, and just like every release, I get e-mails and calls from folks with this question: “Can I upgrade from Customer Technical Preview (CTP) x or Beta #x or Release Candidate (RC) to the “Released to Manufacturing” (RTM) version?” No. Right up until the last minute, things are changing in the code – and you want that to happen. Our internal testing runs right up until the second we lock down for release, and we watch the CTP/RC/Beta reports to make sure there are no show-stoppers, and fix what we find. And it’s not just “big” changes you need to worry about – a simple change in one line of code can have a massive effect. I know, I know – you’ve possibly upgraded an RC or CTP to the RTM version and it worked “just fine”. But hear this tale: I’ve dealt with someone who faced this exact situation in SQL Server 2008. They upgraded (which is clearly prohibited in the documentation) from a CTP to the RTM version over a year ago. Everything was working fine. But then…one day they had an issue. Couldn’t fix it themselves, we took a look, days went by, and we finally had to call in the big guns for support. Turns out, the upgrade was the problem. So we had to come up with some elaborate schemes to get the system migrated over while they were in production. This was painful for everyone involved. So the answer is still no. Just don’t do it. There is one caveat to this story – if you are a “TAP” customer (you’ll know if you are), we help you move from the CTP products to RTM, but that’s a special case that we track carefully and send along special instructions and tools to help you along. That level of effort isn’t possible on a large scale, so it’s not just a magic tool that we run to upgrade from CTP to RTM. So again, unless you’re a TAP customer, it’s a no-no.     Recently I had reason to be very glad that I had Fiddler. I was able to record some web service traffic and identify a problem as Fiddler can record both the call to a web service and response from the web service. By seeing the actual data traffic I was able to resolve a problem found in testing in less time than it has taken me to write this blog entry! This tool is also useful for studying general web site traffic. Fiddler is available from http://www.fiddler2.com/fiddler2/ There are training videos available on the above site.

  • More advanced 'Apple Automator' like software?

    What I'm looking for is a program similar to Automator or A Better Finder Rename but more extensive / advanced. In my situation we have two files with the same name, one is a MOV the other an XML. We want to use some of the metadata within the XML to rename both files. Then we want to re-arrange the contents of the XML file so that it is compatible with another piece of software we use (I think this process is called mapping?) Essentially some software that takes a bunch of variable from existing file and performs file actions to them. I imagine this would be an easy task using apple-script, but I'm wondering if there is a OSX application similar to Automator that can do the above? Questions are: Is there software that can do the above? Could Automator achieve this? What is the technical name of this kind of process? If no such software exists, what would be the best kind of script to use? eg. Make an Apple Script, python script etc.

  • Using a CDN for CMS software (multiple sites)

    I'm currently researching ideas for the media management side of a CMS I'm writing. I was looking at having images served from a CDN which is fine on a single site, but I want all sites that run the CMS to make use of a CDN (which will most likely be a custom developed one, rather than a third party service like S3). My main question is: Is a multi-site CDN a good idea? I can't think of a downside, but have probably missed something - obviously they won't share the same folder, as I invisage the requests to be css.cdnsite.com/example.com/style.css or something along those lines. Having multiple sites in the same place will obviously make it easier for us to manage, as well as being cheaper, but then I wonder if it'll be worth it... Long story short: How should the CMS handle user uploaded media (separate installations) Just keep a local copy of all assets and serve them from the same site, like in days of yore? Keep a local copy, force site to use www. and have CDN subdomains per site? Or use a single separate CDN for all sites? Apologies for the length of this question, not sure if this should be multiple questions or not, as all parts are kind of related and could affect each other.

    Directly post graduation from University, I decided to build my own web app (Ease My Day) while waiting to get a job as a software Engineer. The reasons to build this app: Gain solid hands on software experience before hitting the job scene Providing a solution to a common problem Not sitting doing nothing while searching for jobs The app is Not an entrepreneurial tryout nor a business to be sold. Still throughout interviews I noticed that at the rate of 4 of each 5 interviews I pass through the app is being confused with a business and I am asked the same questions: Why did you build the business? Why do you want to stop the app? Do you want to sell the app? Knowing that I didn't build a business nor make any income from this application. Do candidates who take initiatives and like to craft their own apps on the side cause a red flag on the hiring manager's radar?

    I tried to install and start fifa world on ubuntu 14.04, wine version 1.7.19 I created 32 bit wine prefix on my ubuntu 14.04 wine 1.7.19 Downloaded origin full setup(3db5cf0281c282d33dce939d0934c5ba) 95,6 MB File and installed it. I was able to install origin but I could not download FIFA world. http://slexy.org/view/s21XHeN75S Then I had to patch origin: Qt5Network http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=31438#attach_47911 Download started after some time (around half hour) After the download was completed the installer got stuck and was not doing anything. http://slexy.org/view/s217GlrogJ I quieted origin and started the game allover again but it did not start. http://slexy.org/view/s20muYGSt5 Does anyone knows how I can fix this ???
