  Disclaimer: I have taken a look at the 50+ StackExchange forums to find the right place, and it seems /Programmers/ is the most suitable Exchange for this. If this is the wrong place to ask this, however, please let me know - I will personally delete the thread. I am in the process of downloading a single license for Visual Studio 2013 for my firm of 2-3 developers. One license is approximately $498.00 USD. As a small firm, our funds are short, but since we will be creating commercial software, we decided we will be needing the features of the Professional edition. At the same time, our decision is to use the Express edition for the rest of the two developers. My question is - will there be compatibility issues between Express projects and Professional projects for Visual Studio?

  I had an incredibly interesting experience getting to Seattle this week. I flew out of Providence through Philadelphia. Apparently there was some smoke in one of the towers at PHL, so our flight was an hour delayed. I missed my connection by three minutes . • JavaOne Session Report - Java ME SDK 3.2

  Oracle Product Manager for Java ME SDK, Sungmoon Cho, presented a session, "Developing Java Mobile and Embedded Applications with Java ME SDK 3.2,” wherein he covered the basic new features of the Java ME Platform SDK 3.2, a state-of-the-art toolbox for developing mobile and embedded applications. The session began with a summary of the four main components of Java ME SDK. A device emulator allows developers to quickly run and test applications before commercialization. It supports CLDC/MIDP CLDC/IMP.NG and CLC/AGUI. A development environment assists writing, running debugging and deploying and enables on-device debugging. Samples provide developers with useful codes and frameworks. IDE Plugins – NetBeans and Eclipse – equip developers with CPU Profiler, Memory Monitor, Network Monitor, and Device Selector. This means that manual integration is no longer necessary. Cho then talked about the Java ME SDK’s on-device tooling architecture: * Java ME SDK provides an architecture ideal for on-device-debugging.* Device Manager plays the central role by managing different devices whether it is the emulator or a device that Oracle provides or recommends or a third party device as long as the devices have a Java Runtime that supports the protocol that is designated.* The Emulator provides an accurate emulation, since it uses the same code base used in Oracle’s Java ME runtime.* The Universal Emulator Interface (UEI) makes it easy for IDEs to detect the platform.He then focused on the Java ME SDK release highlights, which include: * Implementation and support for the new Oracle® Java Wireless Client 3.2 runtime and the Oracle® Java ME Embedded runtime. A full emulation for the runtime is provided.* Support for JSR 228, the Information Module Profile-Next Generation API (IMP-NG). This is a new profile for embedded devices. * A new Custom Device Skin Creator.* An Eclipse plugin for CLDC/MIDP.* Profiling, Network monitoring, and Memory monitoring are now integrated with the NetBeans profiling tools.* Java ME SDK Update CenterCho summarized the main features: IDE Integration (NetBeans and Eclipse) enables developers to write, run, profile, and debug their applications on their favorite IDE. CPU ProfilerThis enables developers to more quickly detect the hot spot and where CPU time is being used. They can double click the method to jump directly into the source code.Memory Monitor Developers can monitor objects and memory usage in real time.Debugger on the Emulator and DeviceDevelopers can run their applications step by step, and inspect the variables to pinpoint the problem. The debugging can take place either on the emulator or the device.Embedded Application DevelopmentIMP-NG, Device Access, Logging, and AMS API Support are now available.On-Device ToolingConnect your device to your computer, and run and debug the application right on your device.Custom Device Skin CreatorDefine your own device and test on an environment that is closest to your target device. Read on and enjoy the honesty and insight. Q. What do you like best about performing in front of a live audience?A. Probably just having fun and entertaining the audience. We've been together for almost two decades, and in that time we've played for crowds of five people, and for crowds of more than 15,000. Both are equally important to us, and just as fun. We turn Jill and Smelley loose on the between-songs repartee, and let the songs shine through. On the best night, we feed on the audience's love and vice-versa. It's emotional vampirism of the best sort. [Blogger's note: now that whole "red meat" thing is starting to make sense ...] Q. Do you prefer smaller, intimate venues or larger, louder ones? Why?A. We love both. Whether it's a chance to connect with a small room or huge audience, we always try to hit 'em between the eyes! Q. What about your fans surprises you?A. Since we've been together for so long, we're pretty much on our third generation of fans now. We're excited that the Bakersfield sound has that same effect on the new, younger fans as it did on the punk rockers that we played to 20 years ago. And we still see them at our shows too! Q. What about your live act surprises your fans?A. For people who haven't seen Red Meat before, they may be dragged to a show thinking they don't like country music. But they're surprised to hear it done in a way that excites them so much. ZeroTurnaround, the creator of JRebel and LiveRebel, describes itself on their site as a company “dedicated to changing the way the world develops, tests and runs Java applications."“We just launched LiveRebel 2.5 today,” stated Badrinarayanan, “which enables companies to embrace the concept and practice of continuous delivery, which means having a pipeline that takes products right from the developers to an end-user, faster, more frequently -- all the while ensuring that it’s a quality product that does not break in production. So customers don’t feel the discontinuity that something has changed under them and that they can’t deal with the change. • Network(ing) to the Limit

   By Karen Shamban While Oracle OpenWorld attendees are networking, there's an Oracle Global IT team that builds and maintains the massive networks that help run the show. The objective? To keep things running as seamlessly and smoothly as possible, constantly evaluate priorities, mitigate risk, and be ready for whatever might happen -- because things do happen when there are 50,000 plus attendees, tens of thousands of devices, unexpected requirements, and a constant flow of up-to-the-minute information. Here's just some of what it takes to keep the conference going, network style: 100 Oracle network, voice, and desktop engineers; security, risk management, and other IT experts, who come in from 17 countries  1000+ network switches 300+ miles of copper and fiber 485 wireless access points 2,500 wired laptops 300 VoIP phones And just where are all these networks and devices deployed? This is what the team had to build and manage: Moscone North, South, and West, including: The keynote hall Oracle DEMOgrounds in the Exhibition Halls Hundreds of session rooms Connection Centers, Social Avenue, Lounges Registration The Howard Street Tent and Taylor Street Cafe tented venues Oracle Square (Union Square) Yerba Buena Gardens Masonic Auditorium Sessions and demos at 8 hotel venues That's a whole lot of networking going on. And here's the kicker: the team has only 4 days to bring get it all up and running across these many venues, and exactly 12 hours to take it all down once the show ends. The Global IT team puts in the equivalent of 152 24-hour days for set-up, 227 24-hour days of support during the conferences, and then tears it all down in about 20 24-hour days. And in case you were wondering, the planning for next year's Oracle OpenWorld starts ... next week. • Can't ping a DNS zone on windows server 2008 R2

  I´ve just configured a windows server 2008 r2, but got a lot of problems on DNS role. Let me talk about the server configuration: name: fdserver IP address: 192.168.0.10 I have a DNS zone called "fd.local". This is my domain and it´s working ok. I´ve created a zone called fdserver, and inside this zone a record (A) with "*" as a host. because this is a webserver, i´ve configured apache so if you enter something like "site.fdserver" it will point you to the "site" folder. This is working ok ONLY inside the server. This server is a DNS server too... and have 3 entries: 192.168.0.10 (his own IP), 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 (google public DNS). Now start the problems... Most of the computers on my network, CAN join the domain without problems. But just CAN'T ping "something.fdserver". Now comes the strange thing... If I remove the twoo secondary entries on my DNS server (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4), it obvious stop accessing websites (like microsoft.com), but now the computer CAN ping "something.fdserver". I don´t know If I explained correctly... and my English is terrible... but inside the server is all working as it supposed to work. But in the workstation machines, it work only if I remove the secondary DNS!! If you need any details, just ask! thanks!

• Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard to Enterprise Problems

  A few months ago I setup a Citrix XenApp cluster running on Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard Edition using the temporary 180 day license key. Recently the company bought a Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise DataCenter license. This means I need to upgrade the Windows edition from Standard to Enterprise. I attach the disk to the VM and start the upgrade process through XenCenter, it runs through all checks and unpacks all Windows files and seems to create a Windows Setup partition, it then reboots and trys to boot into this partition and I get a blue screen telling me to CHKDSK the hard drive with the following error message: STOP: 0x0000007B As XenApp is already setup and working I really do not want to go down the route of rebuilding this server (as I already had to do this once down to issues with XenApp). The server did have 8GB of RAM assigned to it, I have tried reducing this down to 2GB's as I read this can cause an issue. Also I can boot back into the Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard partition without any problems. UPDATE I have managed to get round the urgency by re-arming the license, giving me another 180 day trial..but would be nice to work out why this is happening!
