  • Connect Microsoft Surface to ad-hoc network

    I am trying to connect my Microsoft Surface tablet to an ad-hoc network that I setup on my Windows-7 desktop machine. The Surface machine can see and connect to other hotspots, but it cannot see the ad-hoc network, whereas a second Windows-7 laptop sitting next to the Surface machine can see it. What would cause the ad-hoc network to be visible to Windows 7 but not to Surface? Additional data: Windows-7 is on domain, but Surface is not.

    I'm using MS Visio 2003 Standard. When I first was using it 3 years ago, it would let you search a database of thousands of ready-made templates, which I think Microsoft hosted at their own website. Several months ago, these templates were no longer available. I'm looking for some kind of replacement for common computer architecture and digital circuits, as well as user interface mock-ups. Does anybody know where I can find an assortment of these 'shapes'?

  • Microsoft Security Essentials Vs. Avast Home [Free] Edition on a netbook [closed]

    I am using Avast Home Edition in my Dell Mini 10v. As you know the notebook is using an under powered processor which is not really suitable for browsing some rich internet websites. So I am in the middle of improving the performance. Will uninstalling Avast and using Microsoft Security Essentials will improve the performance? the memory usage of avast is quite low but I can't compromise security. Is Security essentials a good bet?

  • Microsoft Word files have weird icons suddenly?

    All of a sudden, my Microsoft Office files have the generic file icon, and it happens with Powerpoint and Word, but not Excel. I can open the files just fine, and I tried restarting my computer, creating new files, clicking F5 on the desktop, turning off my Windows XP theme patcher, and none of them worked, any ideas? EDIT: I've also noticed that it happened to the following programs: Windows Live Messenger, iTunes, and Skype, so not just MS Office. Yet, some are still fine like IE, Paint, GIMP, Paint.NET, a few web browsers, etc.

    We're currently testing Microsoft Dynamics CRM hosted by Fpweb. I've been asked by the lead on the project how we can increase the speed at which CRM pages in IE load. The delay seems reasonable to me for a virtual server located across the country. Has anyone succeeded in speeding things up with aggressive caching (i.e. a WAN accelerator) or by some other means? Do your employees complain about the speed of hosted Dynamics CRM?

  • How to refresh linked tables in an Access mdb when ODBC changes

    I can create an Access mdb and add a linked table to an Sql Server database via ODBC. If I change the Sql Server that the ODBC is connecting to with the ODBC control panel applet the mdb still connects to the original Sql Server until Access is restarted. Is there a way to relink these linked server tables without restarting Access? EDIT: I would like to do this in code

    I tested my application with FastMM and FullDebugMode turned on, since I had some shutdown problems. After solving bunch of my own problems FastMM started to complain about calling virtual method on a freed object in TPopupList. I tried to move the menus unit as early as possible in uses so that it would be finalized last, but it didn't help. Is this real problem, a bug in vcl or false alarm from FastMM? Is it just the limits of access or can i do something to improve the situation? change any timeout/refresh settings anywhere? or could it be a problem with the network?

  • Import OLE Object from Access to MySQL

    I have a table in an access table which contains Product entries, one of the columns has a jpg image stored as an OLE Object. I am trying to import this table to MySQL but nothing seems to work. I have tried the MySQL migration tool but that has a known issue with Access and OLE Objects. (The issue being it doesnt work and leaves the fields blank) I also tried the suggestion on this site and while the data is imported it seems as though the image is getting corrupted in the transfer. When i try to preview the image i just get a binary view, if i save it on disk as a jpg image and try to open it i get an error stating the image is corrupt. The images in Access are fine and can be previewed. Access is storing the data as an OLE Object and when i import it to MySql it is saved in a MediumBlob field. Has anyone had this issue before and how did they resolve it ?

  • Microsoft Windows DHCP: Steering IPv4 clients into specific scopes based on MAC

    We have visitors on our campus who bring their own laptops and devices and use our wireless and wired networks. When we receive a copyright infringement notice (typically BitTorrenting), we are required to quarantine that MAC address so that it no longer has Internet access. No matter what website it tries to visit, it is sent to a web page explaining to the user that the device has been quarantined. We have thus far implemented this in ISC DHCP on Linux. We have multiple VLANs with one or more public-IP subnets and one RFC1918 quarantine subnet each. All clients are leased IPs in the public-IP subnet(s) unless you're in a list of known bad MACs. Then, you are sent to the quarantine subnet so that your traffic is unroutable on the Internet (you are isolated by subnet only, not by VLAN). We would like to move to Windows DHCP in light of the IPAM role but I cannot figure out how to replicate this in Windows DHCP 2012 (Assign DHCP IPs for specific MAC prefixes on Windows Server 2008 R2 suggests it was not possible in 2008 R2), even while using policies. So here's what I'd like: The administrator/help desk provides and maintains a list of MAC addresses that are to be quarantined. The DHCP server places those MACs into the quarantine subnet on the respective VLAN, no matter which VLAN the client is in. I don't think reservations would work: We currently have about 300 registered bad MACs and about 12 VLANs. I don't want to make 300 x 12 reservations nor have to add 12 reservations per new MAC address. Not to mention all of the quarantine subnets are /24s. We do not have NPS/NAC. You do not have to register your MAC address get network access. We use Cisco routers/switches. Thanks.

I'm trying to fetch data from the stream table like this: FQL: SELECT post_id, message, created_time FROM stream WHERE source_id = 131559313586863 URL: http:// graph.facebook.com/fql?q=SELECT+post_id%2C+message%2C+created_time+FROM+stream+WHERE+source_id+%3D+131559313586863&access_token=10669xxxxx74470|PF-7GSdBx0Nxxxxxkdi1KwSQG-w But I get a 400 Bad Request as response with the error message: "An access token is required to request this resource.". I'm fetching an application access token with this url: https:// graph.facebook.com/oauth/access_token?client_id=FACEBOOK_APP_ID&client_secret=FACEBOOK_APP_SECRET&grant_type=client_credentials Facebook state in this blog post that "You will need to pass a valid app or user access token to access this functionality.". Functionality refers to /feed and /posts (the stream table). Futhermore this wiki tells the same story about using the stream table, "From June 3 2011 a token is required to query this table. You can use any application or user token to make the query.". Does anyone see my hopefully obvious flaw? Please note: The profile in the FQL query is public. I need this to run userless though a cronjob. No user interaction is possible. The request works if I replace the app access token with my own user token from https:// developers.facebook.com/tools/explorer Sorry for breaking the URL's.
