    I have came from another question to this one: How can one start with Java (JVM) ecosystem? What are beginner, intermediate and advanced knowledge-bases (bags!)? To be honest Java ecosystem was always a bit confusing to me, so it would be very helpful to provide some "reference references" and "defacto tutorials" for learning (curve!) JVM. I am a beginner, i.e. I tried Sandcastle but it is way over my head and could not get it going, not even with GUI. Fatesoft's CodeVisual To Flowchart is OK but it is almost the same as the code and I still don't understand the code.

Specifically I don't seem to find anything on user authentication. I've checked out erlang_facebook, erlang2facebook and erlyface but none of them seem to offer a simple and comprehensive example accessible to me as a beginner . I'd be happy for just a bit of code to plough through though, preferably using mochiweb as backend.

    I am a beginner who finally started understanding anonymous types. (see old post http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3010147/what-is-the-return-type-for-a-anonymous-linq-query-select-what-is-the-best-way-t) So in LINQ queries you form the type of return value you want within the linq query right? It seems the way to do this is anonymous type right? Can someone explain to me if and when I could use a Tuple/Expando object instead? They all seem very simliar?

    Hi. I have become a fond of C++ thanks to this website. Before, I programmed exclusively in C/Fortran, thinking that C++ was too slow (not anymore). Is there a reason to write new project purely in C? this is besides obvious things like low-level kernel/system components. What about intermediate things, like communication libraries, for example MPI? Is C still more portable than C++? I have messed with pretty exotic systems, like Cray, but have yet to see non-embedded system without C++. thanks

  • R: How to get a stack trace from the snow package

    How can I get a stack trace back from a snow node after an error occurs? I am using the snow package (version 0.3-3) on R 2.10.1 and I'm getting errors when I use parSapply that do not occur when I use sapply. Snow is nice enough to give me the error message but it would be much more useful for me to have the kind of stack trace you can get from traceback(). So far I have tried: options(showWarnCalls = T, showErrorCalls = T) setDefaultClusterOptions(outfile = "/dev/tty") and options(error=traceback) setDefaultClusterOptions(outfile = "/dev/tty") without luck. I'm currently just testing with a local cluster ie: makeSOCKcluster(c("localhost","localhost")) but I will eventually be using an MPI cluster. Thanks.
