• How to prevent code/option injection in a bash script

  I have written a small bash script called "isinFile.sh" for checking if the first term given to the script can be found in the file "file.txt": #!/bin/bash FILE="file.txt" if [ `grep -w "$1" $FILE` ]; then echo "true" else echo "false" fi However, running the script like > ./isinFile.sh -x breaks the script, since -x is interpreted by grep as an option. So I improved my script #!/bin/bash FILE="file.txt" if [ `grep -w -- "$1" $FILE` ]; then echo "true" else echo "false" fi using -- as an argument to grep. Now running > ./isinFile.sh -x false works. But is using -- the correct and only way to prevent code/option injection in bash scripts? I have not seen it in the wild, only found it mentioned in ABASH: Finding Bugs in Bash Scripts.

• Python's subprocess.Popen object hangs gathering child output when child process does not exit

  When a process exits abnormally or not at all, I still want to be able to gather what output it may have generated up until that point. • Deprecated errors when installing pear

  I'm trying to install PEAR on OS X. I did this: curl http://pear.php.net/go-pear > go-pear.php php go-pear.php After answering some prompts, I start getting tons of errors like this: Deprecated: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated in /Users/jacobweber/bin/pear/temp/PEAR.php on line 563 PHP Deprecated: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated in /Users/jacobweber/bin/pear/temp/PEAR.php on line 566 Now, I understand what these errors mean. I just want to hide them. So in my /private/etc/php.ini file, I have the following: error_reporting = E_ALL & ~E_NOTICE & ~E_STRICT & ~E_DEPRECATED This hides those same errors in my own code. But in PEAR it doesn't. They seem to be changing the error_reporting level. Is there a good way to fix this?

  When I try rake db:migrate, I get the following error: !!! The bundled mysql.rb driver has been removed from Rails 2.2. Please install the mysql gem and try again: gem install mysql. rake aborted! no such file to load -- mysql And when I try to "gem install mysql" Building native extensions. This could take a while... ERROR: Error installing mysql: ERROR: Failed to build gem native extension. /usr/bin/ruby extconf.rb Can't find header files for ruby. Gem files will remain installed in /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/mysql-2.8.1 for inspection. $ sudo gem install mysql -- --with-mysql-config=/usr/local/mysql/bin/mysql_config has also been tried but same error. I'm on a Fedora 10. Help will be much appreciated.Cheers!

  Hi All, I'm a newcomer trying to get my feet wet with Ruby and Sinatra. I followed the Slicehost articles in getting Ruby 1.9.1 setup along with Thin 1.2.7 with a reverse proxy to Nginx. Most things were going pretty smooth until I tried to start up my thin server.   hey, I have a firmware for an USB module I can already control by visual C. Now I want to port this to python. for this I need the octopus library which is written in c.   I'm using wget in a php script and need to get the name of the file downloaded. For example, if I try <?php system('/usr/bin/wget -q --directory-prefix="./downloads/" http://www.google.com/'); ?> I will get a file called index.html in the downloads directory. The page will not always be google though, so I need to find out the name of the file that was downloaded. I'd like to have something like this: <?php //Does not work: $filename = system('/usr/bin/wget -q --directory-prefix="./downloads/" http://www.google.com/'); //$filename should contain "index.html" ?>

  Hello, I am trying to read command lien argument but it seems there is some kind of bug in .NET. The parameter which I pass to my console application /i "C:\Projects\PC\trunk\Simulator\PDF-Source\PDF-Source\bin\Debug\ConversionFiles\dummy.pdf" /o "result" CommandLine variable return three arguments, but I pass four and values of these arguments messed up. /i = true "C:\Projects\PC\trunk\Simulator\PDF-Source\PDF-Source\bin\Debug\ConversionFiles\dummy.pdf" = true /o = "result" As you see only the last argument is parsed corectlly. InnoDB is one of MySQL storage engines, it supports transactions, row-level locking, and foreign-keys. However, by default, InnoDB is not enabled by XAMPP. To enable it, locate the my.cnf configuration file (normally in C:/xampp/mysql/bin directory) and search for the following lines: # Comment the following if you are using InnoDB tables But the path C:/xampp/mysql/bin directory in my system doesn't seem to have such a file...   Hello, I just cannot for the life of me get my nant build file to terminate upon a test failure and return (thus preventing the packaging and artifact step from running) This is the unit part of the nant file: <target name="unittest" depends="build"> <nunit2 verbose="true" haltonfailure="false" failonerror="true" failonfailureatend="true"> <formatter type="Xml" /> <test assemblyname="Code\AppMonApiTests\bin\Release\AppMonApiTests.dll" /> </nunit2> </target> And regardless what combination of true/false i set the haltonfailure, failonerror, failonfailureatend properties to, the result is always this: [11:15:09]: Some tests has failed in C:\Build\TeamCity\buildAgent\work\ba5b94566a814a34\Code\AppMonApiTests\bin\Release\AppMonApiTests.dll, tests run terminated. [11:15:09]: NUnit Launcher exited with code: 1 [11:15:09]: Exit code 0 will be returned.1 Please help as i don't want to be publishing binarys where the unit tests have failed!!!   Say I have this perl "program" called simple.pl: #!/usr/bin/perl use xyz; # xyz is bogus and doesn't exist And I also have this "program", called simple2.pl: #!/usr/bin/perl system("simple.pl"); my $abc = `simple2.pl`; printf("abc %s\n", $abc); for both system and backtick, I get this message: Can't exec "simple.pl": No such file or directory at scripts/perl/simple2.pl line 7. Can't exec "simple2.pl": No such file or directory at scripts/perl/simple2.pl line 9. Not very useful for the user calling simple2.pl. Is there a way to get a more useful message?

DONE In your .NET project, add a reference to the ManagedOpenSsl.dll assembly. DONE I have put libeay32.dll and ssleay32.dll in both my bin/Debug and bin/Release directories. I have also put them in system32. • Should I put my output files in source control?

  I've been asked to put every single file in my project under source control, including the database file (not the schema, the complete file). This seems wrong to me, but I can't explain it. Every resource I find about source control tells me not to put generated output files in a source control system. And I understand, it's not "source" files. However, I've been presented with the following reasoning: Who cares? We have plenty of bandwidth. I don't mind having to resolve a conflict each time I get the latest revision, it's just one click It's so much more convenient than having to think about good ignore files Also, if I have to add an external DLL file in the bin folder now, I can't forget to put it in source control, as the bin folder is not being ignored now. The simple solution for the last bullet-point is to add the file in a libraries folder and reference it from the project. Please explain if and why putting generated output files under source control is wrong.

• ClassNotFoundException in MySQL Connector/J

  This has been asked before but I cannot find the answer I need. 1) Using Class.forName("com.mysql.java.Driver") in the eclipse IDE all works well. I load the correct jar (mysql-connector-java-5.1.20-bin.jar), no exception. When I create a jar for my app a1.jar and double click the jar, I get the ClassnotFoundException. I created a .bat file in Windows XP with java -classpath c:\temp\mysql-connector-java-5.1.20-bin.jar -jar c:\temp\a1.jar the app statrs with the same exception. Furthermore using System.getProperty ("java.class.path") shows c:\temp\a1.jar whilst in the IDE I can see several directories

  I'm trying to build dschaefer android-box2d, and did follow the recipe. I do get this error when trying to build the TestBox2d with eclipse: make all /cygdrive/c/android/android-ndk-r3/build/prebuilt/windows/arm-eabi-4.2.1/bin/arm-eabi-ld \ -nostdlib -shared -Bsymbolic --no-undefined \ -o obj/libtest.so obj/test.o -L../box2d/lib/android -lbox2d \ -L/cygdrive/c/android/android-ndk-r3/build/platforms/android-3/arch-arm/usr/lib \ -llog -lc -lstdc++ -lm \ /cygdrive/c/android/android-ndk-r3/build/prebuilt/windows/arm-eabi-4.2.1/lib/gcc/arm-eabi/4.2.1/interwork/libgcc.a \ /cygdrive/c/android/android-ndk-r3/build/prebuilt/windows/arm-eabi-4.2.1/bin/arm-eabi-ld: cannot find -lbox2d make: * [obj/libtest.so] Error 1 The only thing I did change was in the TestBox2d\Makefile where i did change the path to the NDK. There are some other that have the same problem HERE but I do not know how to fix it.
