  • Internet Explorer to Firefox javascript migration library - does one exist?

    I am working on a legacy ASP.NET web site that is highly dependent on Internet Explorer. I would like to migrate it to non-IE browsers. I know there are a large amount of differences (as detailed at quirksmode.org, etc.), so I'm searching for a javascript library that can help minimize the amount of source I'd have to change. I'm hoping that my lack of success in finding such a beast so far means that I'm just a bad google-er, and not that I'm just going to have to slog through coming up with replacements/workarounds for all of IE's proprietary functionality that this site currently uses (it uses quite a bit). Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  • ASP.net site looks completely different on IE, Firefox, and Chrome; why?

    I'm doing css for a website. I send the html and css to a guy, he puts it into ASP.net. The problem is that the transfer didn't end well for my code and it needs some fixing. The problem is that when I look at it in Chrome, or Firefox, or IE8, I get three completely different renderings. I spent a good amount of time trying to fix a drop-down menu that is supposed to appear while hovering over a link. The one he had in place from ASP.net worked in IE, kinda worked in Firefox, and was completely broken in Chrome (I haven't tested Safari or Opera.) Just getting it to look basically the same in firefox and chrome was a struggle. The html source is showing me two completely different pages as well. Does anyone have experience with this? I know nothing of ASP.net, and it seems like the guy is modifying my layout with a wsyiwyg (I found tables used in random places, which I did not put there.) Faced with this, what is my best option? Is this fixable, or am I in over my head?

    How can i change the appearance (not the color) of a scrollbar within a box with overflow? I know how to do it in flash, I need a way to do it without it. In fact, I want to know how they did this slider in the apple web site: http://www.apple.com/mac/ It seems they used css along with javascript, but that's all I know. Is it possible that they did it using DOM, DHTML, HTML 5, Ruby or PHP? I have no idea. If you'd be kind enough to share the answer, I thank you in advance.

  • Presentation Issue in an Unordered List

    I'm having an issue with correctly presenting items in an unordered list. The labels are floating left and the related spans that are long in length are wrapping and showing below the label. I need a solution that keeps the related spans in their respective columns. In other words, I don't want long spans to show under the labels. What property can I take advantage of so that I get the desired layout in all of the popular browsers, including IE6? Thanks in advance for the help.   • CSS being ignored in IE & FFox but not Chrome

    Hi, i am styling a navigation menu using the following css. I have found that it works perfectly in chrome but absolutely none of the css is beign applied in firefox or IE.   • why is internet explorer displaying my javascript pagination backwards?

    Here's a version of the code I'm using, stripped down to just the parts that aren't working. This is all written to generate some basic pagination with jQuery. In Chrome/Safari/Moz, I generate see spans, 1,2,3,4,...,etc When I look in IE7/8, I see etc,...,4,3,2,1 The string seems to be concatenating backwards!! This seems very strange to me, because there's not a whole lot going on in the code here, I can't figure out which bit could be causing problems.     Currently in a simplified form, my code looks like this function AddFileParam(file_id, name, value) { uploadcontrol.addFileParam(file_id, name, value) } uploadcontrol = new Upload() function upload() { //logic } upload.prototype.AddFileParam = function(file_id, name, value) { //logic }; The code is giving me an error as it states that addFileParam is not a valid function. This is caused by the instance of the function upload (aka. uploadcontrol). This is only occuring in Firefox/Chrome and not in IE. Any ideas on how to fix this?

  • Google chrome, native client support and development

    Hey guys, I would like to write a small C++ app and run it on chrome using the native client API. I have a few questions though: 1) I compiled the examples on Ubuntu and ran the code on firefox but can't run it on chrome (using version 5.0.342.7 beta) Do I need to install something? An extension/plugin? 2) I can't find a single online application I could run? Links anyone, I want to see the power of this thing without having to compile the code locally.   • Why is Firefox so bloated? [closed]

    First off I am a developer who loves firebug and other development tools (and no Chrome firebug lite does not cut it) and am just utterly frustrated when I have been using Firefox lately. It is at the point where I use Chrome for absolutely everything but web development but am still frustrated that I had to switch where half a year ago or more Firefox was fine. Why can't there be a Firefox lite? One that is free from all the bloat that has been plaguing Firefox recently. Also if there are any tools or tips that I can free up my Firefox that would be great. I am using the newest version + as few add-ons as possible. EDIT: I have tried Chrome Developer Tools and I do like them...but I can't get passed the firebug lite extension of Chrome. Some of the developer tools are great but sometimes they just have too much information. I extensively use Firebug/myphp admin. Both of these work much much better in Firefox then Chrome. But I hate that it takes me so much longer to load and use everything.

    I have some CSS code that hides the cursor on a web page (it is a client facing static screen with no interaction). The code I use to do this is below: *, html { cursor: url('/web/resources/graphics/blank.cur'), pointer; } Blank.cur is a totally blank cursor file. This code works perfectly well in all browsers when I host the web files on my local server but when I upload to a Windows CE webserver (our production unit) the cursor represents itself as a black box. Odd. After some testing it seems that chrome only has a problem with totally blank cursor files when served from WinCE web server, so I created a blank cursor with one pixel as white, specifically for chrome. How do I then target this CSS rule to chrome specifically? i.e. *, html { cursor: url('/web/resources/graphics/blank.cur'), pointer; } <!--[if CHROME]> *, html { cursor: url('/web/resources/graphics/blankChrome.cur'), pointer; } <![endif]-->

  • CSS3 new features...whats the point?

    I've been reading a lot of ways recently of how to avoid having to use Photoshop for things like gradients and shadows on buttons, when you can use CSS3 Box Shadow for such features. Now this is great, but obviously legacy browsers and most IE browsers don't yet implement CSS3 features, so my question is, why save yourself extra work in Photoshop when you can use CSS3 but then HAVE to use Photoshop for other browsers to see the desired effects? Isn't that just extra work?

  • Why do firefox/chrome show a different page than IE8?

    When I look at this published Google Docs document, I see the latest version with Firefox and Chrome, but an older version with IE8. Also, screen-scraping it via PHP/Curl gives me an older version. I've tried CTRL-Refresh in IE8 but I can't get it to show me the newest version. No matter what headers I try to change in PHP/Curl, I can't get it to show me the newest version. What am I not understanding about browsers/headers/caching here? How can it be that different browsers show different contents of one page?
