• Question about migrating from ASP .NET User Controls to .NET 3.5 Master Page technology

  When migrating from an ASP .NET user control -based page with a header, footer, and menu to a Master Page using the same HTML mark-up, is it normal for CSS or javascript behaviors to change slightly? In particular, the submenu bar text now appears run together (which looks like a CSS symptom) and the graphics on the line above it appear to have an incorrect z-order. (The menu operation is javascript-based.) (I tried to paste images here but couldn't.) Also, the site is very large and we've not been given permission to redo the menu for the entire site. This is a forward-only migration. (Because I know that someone will ask.) Assuming that there are no changes in scope, what are the things that I should check? Thanks! Jim

  Hi ! I would like to know how to log the login and logout of a user. I know it's possible to use the command "last". But this command is based on a file that has a r/w permission for the user, hence the possibility to change these data. I would like to log these data over two months. Why would I like to do that ? In fact, I would like to prevent a normal user to use a computer more than an hour a day - except week-ends, and 10 hours in total a week. • iPhone filesystem permissions POSIX-compliant?

  Hi all, I'm trying to pass some files from one app to another. I communicate the path (via a custom URL). The target application cannot read the file, citing errno 13 (permission denied). I've checked the permissions on file - they're 0644 (O+R), the permissions on directories all the way up to the root are 755 (O+RX). From a POSIX perspective, the file should be readable to any process and any user. Yet it's not. Any ideas, please? I can think of some workarounds. I could use a Web service (upload, get a cookie, communicate the cookie to the other app, other app downloads). I could also pass the actual file data in the URL - unelegant, and probably subject to length limitations. Clipboard is not supported on iPhone OS 2 IIRC.

  I was wondering how could I reload any website using javascript and set it in a way that when it reloads the scrollbar is looking scrolled down to a certain position. I'm unsure as to how to look for this in Google honestly so I haven't digged up much =/. • Facebook links to my site resolve as 403 forbidden

  Hi I'm experiencing a super weird problem. Whenever I post links to my website on Facebook, they come up as Forbidden. The site itself works great and I have no seen this when linking on other sites. Could this be a server misconfiguration? Any thoughts on where to look? here's some Info: I have a dedicated server running WHM 11.25.0 i have 2 sites hosted here using cPanel 11.25.0 the error msg: Forbidden You don't have permission to access / on this server. Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.   I have a custom workflow. This workflow removes permissions to items when an item is added (example an item is added by a service account and once added those permissions need to be removed from that item). This works as I have the service account 'hard coded' in the custom workflow. Now I would like to remove this hard coding and when a item is added to a list I would like to iterate through all users that have access to the list item. If a user matches some algorithm then remove that user from the item permissions which will be 0 to many. The piece I'm stuggling with is how to iterage all users with permission to a SPListItem. Any thoughts on how to accomplish this? Thanks in advance!

  Hello, I am trying to use a textreader to retrieve data from a text file on a local machine. I have an upload routine to get the file for the reader to open. When I run the application locally, it works fine. When I publish my application to my server, I am getting a Could not find a part of the path error. I assume this error has to do with permission in that the server cannot read from the local file system, but I don't know the proper way to remedy this. do I set up the application to impersonate the user? I know I can't possibly set up each local users machine to allow the iusr account to access it. Thanks for any thoughts.

  I have a view to display a list of items. The user can edit, delete or create new items, but according to their authorizations they may or may not be allowed to do some of this actions. I have the requirement to display only the actions which the current user is allowed to do, but I don't want to clutter the views with authorization if-else's Despise of being a very common requirement, I can't find a real satisfactory way of doing it. My best approach so far is to provide an overload to the Html.ActionLink extension method that takes the permission to ask for, but there are going to be more complex scenarios, like hiding entire blocks of html or switching a textbox for a label+hidden. Is there a better way to do this?

  I have an ASP.NET application that runs under Classic .NET AppPool. I'm trying to render a report hosted in Reporting Services in another machine, with the correct address and everything. But I keep getting the following error, which I just can't solve: Cannot create a connection to data source 'MYDATASOURCE'. (rsErrorOpeningConnection) --- Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms.ReportServerException: Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\IUSR'. I won't post any code, I'm simply calling the .Render() method through Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms. Could it be a configuration or some special permission I have to grant to my code? Any Help?

  I've been using PrincipalPermission for a while in wcf services. [PrincipalPermission(SecurityAction.Demand, Role = SecurityRoles.CanManageUsers)] although now i have a requirement to simplify roles by business unit. - currently aspnet_roles has fine grained can* permissions. Here is my approach and wanted to see if anyone can provide feedback, code review before i implement my suggestion. 1) aspnet_roles - business unit role 2) create permission table and Role_Permission table and User_Permission table (many to many) 3) create custom CodeAccessSecurityAttribute + that looks at new tables [CustomPermissionCheck(Security.Demand, HasPermission="can*")] first iteration i'll statically new the dependent repository.. ideally i would like an aop style attribute that has repository injected IPermissionRepository.HasPermission(...); If i approach new aop way i probably will stop inheriting from CodeAccessSecurityAttribute -- what do the security guys have to say about this? has anyone else solved this, is there something in the framework that i've missed?

I just cannot see any updates on bob.txt. Is this a permission error in windows? It works fine on my laptop at home. I also cannot change the php files on my website, using filezilla.

Basically allowing me to automatically check a user can do a certain thing, and then disabling or enabling menu items etc I am not really looking for asp.net security ... as i need to use it in my own service layer and clients both WEB and WPF will use it. I was hoping for something that allows me to create new roles and groups against users and then check what type of permissions a user has or a group has Any help really appreciated..   I have a native DLL which outputs via stdout / stderr. I have a C# console application which calls this DLL and outputs binary data to a parent C# application which started the C# console exe, processing stdout / stderr. Currently when I call the C# exe it works just fine (the DLL hooks up to the stdout of my console application and puts its data in just fine). Is this by design (and shouldn't be broken in future .NET framework versions)? Are there limitations on my managed code's deployment with this strategy (full-trust, permission requirements, GAC issues, etc)? I can't seem to find any documentation about stdout with a managed exe and an unmanaged dll both putting data in that standard output on MSDN. Thanks,

  I need to resize and crop to exactly 60x80px from various size and aspect ratio. Just before i put into Datastore. Anyone already got this issue resolved. Currently i already succed to just transform it to exact height (80px) with various width which nott look so good when i try to display it on a list. e.g jcaroussel. When i use openquery i can overcome this by setting this: SET FMTONLY OFF. Does anyone know if there's a similar workaround for my problem?

  I have a friend that is moving a web application from one server over to another. The new server has the same settings as the first server, however, he's running into a Security issue. Here's the error details: Request for the permission of type 'System.Web.AspNetHostingPermission, System, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed. The Event Viewer does not point to anything specific in the web.config file or anything. The web applicaiton is on the C: drive. This is a Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 server with a brand new IIS 7 installation. IIS is set in classic mode for this app pool.

I test this line in php exec("wget http://domain.com/send_me_email.php"); and it send me an email, it means that I have permission to run exec and wget via php.but what is problem?   Hello All: I just downloaded the latest FBConnect build, popped in my keys and getting a mysterious hanging error only when I try to post a feed without previewing (setting preview to zero). The activity indicated disappears and the blank dialog window just hangs there. (This mirrors what I was getting on the app I was developing). If I try to post a feed with preview it works; set preview to zero it just hangs. Again; thats with the sample project "Publish Feed" button. Hitting getting permission button and then Publish Feed does same thing...... Other Developers have confirmed seeing this too...Apps that have previously had working feed posts have been broken for weeks. Discussions on facebook connect forum seem to be related to this.   I am attempting to edit the "default" file located at .. "/etc/apache2/sites-available/default" on my Ubuntu machine running Apache 2.2.8. I want to do this in order to enable the use of .htaccess files. I have downloaded the "default" file and edited it and now I am trying to upload it back to the server via SFTP. I keep getting permission denied errors. Could it be because Apache is running and making use of the file? I am an admin on the machine so I would expect to be able to overwrite the file.   Hi, I would like to know if it is functionally wrong to page-fault a user-space address when kernel is running fault-handler to bring in a user-page. OS is Linux 2.6.30 Assume that both user-addresses are valid ( falling within vma , rw permission ) for the task. When I check the kernel code, i find that the kernel does not mind the nested fault if the faulted-addresses are valid and the fault did not occur in atomic-context or in irq handler. (I dont think the answer is cpu-specific, but I would add that i am interested in arm and mips ). eg : The scenario can happen if I print stack-data from page-fault handler. thanks shankar

  Hi All, I've got a C++ service which provides a named pipe to clients with a NULL SECURITY_ATTRIBUTES as follows: hPipe = CreateNamedPipe( lpszPipename, PIPE_ACCESS_DUPLEX | FILE_FLAG_OVERLAPPED, PIPE_TYPE_BYTE | PIPE_READMODE_BYTE | PIPE_WAIT, PIPE_UNLIMITED_INSTANCES, BUFSIZE, BUFSIZE, 0, NULL); There is a dll which uses this pipe to get services. There is a c# GUI which uses the dll and works fine. There is a .net web site which also uses this dll (the exact same one on the same PC) but always gets permission denied when it tries to open the pipe. Any one know why this might happen and how to fix it? Also does anyone know of a good tutorial on SECURITY_ATTRIBUTES because I haven't understood the msdn info yet. Thanks, Patrick
