• dell vostro 1310 with nVidia 8400M display problem

  Hi everyone, i hope someone can help me with this problem. I have a Dell vostro 1310 Laptop with 32 bit vista and a 8400M nVidia chip. Recently i have noticed performance issues when my girlfriend was playing Sims 3, and then one day i turned it on and all i got was a thick white line at the bottom of the screen. i heard the OS start up so automatically i thought it was a damaged screen, but i had doubts so i plugged it into an external display via the vga port. it worked but everything appart worm the OS choice menu looks distorted beyond belief. even the bios screen had multicoloured lines running down the screen. The resolution is non existant, the screen only shows a 256 colour pallette and is heavily distorted. i barely managed to get to the device manager where i found the gfx card with an exclamation mark. does anybody have suggestions? should i buy a new mobo or are repairs possible? thanks in advance

• Weird problem, special characters after formatting the hard drive, computer not starting 0_o

  Hya friends , Last night my computer was working fine. But today when i came back from college and started it , it was starting fine but after sometime it's getting restarted , again and again getting restarted at different points , so i tried to boot it in safe mode but same problem. Now after all this , i finally decided to format the drive C (it is in 80 GB) and load new OS windows XP3. After formatting and loading xp3 sufficient files , when it was getting rebooted for copying the actual os files , it hung and a weird screen came. • Soft sound problem on Sony Viao NetBook in GTalk and GMail Chat

  I have a new Sony Viao netbook and have a problem with the sound - or lack of loudness thereof. When using GTalk or chat in GMail with earphones all is OK but when using the netbooks' built in speakers the sound is very very faint (also in the GMail Chat test section). I installed the Sony sound drivers and checked all the sound settings, VLC also plays music at an acceptable level but still not as load as my old MacBook did. All settings are set at 100% - but are still too much too soft to use. Anyone got an idea?

  I am facing problem in conference calling (OS ubuntu latest) ... I created a conference Room and an extension no .. when i dial from my softphone (3cx or X-Lite) it says "YOU ARE ENTERING CONFERENCE NO 1234. YOU ARE CURRENTLY THE ONLY PERSON IN THE CONFERENCE) and then a music for a second and then shows connected... Now when i dial form another soft phone the same extension it goes to second conference room and plays the same message .. if i create only one conference room .. the second no. didn't connect to it and says no conference room. CAN some one help me out .... I just want to create a conference room OR extension where 4-5 or 6 people can call and make a conference ... i am not very much expert in linux and asterisk so simple steps to achieve my goal ..   Hi, I set NFS for server-client that works properly. Now I am trying to set NIS server-client on same PC's. I am following the instruction from "SettingUpNISHowTo" from https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SettingUpNISHowTo link. But in step-10, "sudo /etc/init.d/nis restart".......it show error fail. If I try to use "ypcat passwd" to check......it shows error YPBINDPROC_DOMAIN: Domain not bound No such map passwd.byname. Reason: Can't bind to server which serves this domain Can anyone able to help me to get rid out from this problem? Is all the step in the document is proper to configure the NIS server? • Problem with intel chipset 4 serie and centos dealing with dual head

  I've a fujitsu lifebook S7220, it's been a while since i try to configure it to use a dual head with centos 5.4 x86_64. Everytime I try, the xserver crash... I've got an intel chipset mobile 4 serie (GMA 4500MHD, if I recall good!) • Problem opening files with Gvim on Windows 7

  Just installed gvim on windows 7 for the first time, and I'm having a problem opening some files. When I open files vim seems to flash up a cmd window for a few second before closing it (too quickly to make out the contents,) and I end up with a C:/Program folder, and a /Files/vim/vimfiles/doc/ in the directory of the file I just opened. I can see it's trying to access C:/Program Files/vim/vimfiles/doc, which is where vim is installed, however it's choking on the space, and I'm not familiar enough with gvim to work out why. Any and all ideas are greatly appreciated.

  I have install ubuntu & GNOME (say, with minimum possible number of packages). I can login and do anything as I want. However, there is a nasty thing: Whenever I loggin in, I see this message: Error The panel encountered a problem while loading "OAFIID:GNOME_FastUserSwitchApplet" Do you want to delete the applet from your configuration [Don't Delete] [Delete] If I press [Delete] then the error won't be shown anymore. However, for every new created account, the message shown again (use created using sudo adduser user_name). Since I clone this OS into several virtual instance, and create new account on these instances. I wonder if there is a way to configure my ubuntu so that new created user don't have to see this annoy message? Thanks

• Vertical alignment problem in textbox in Microsoft Word 2007

  I pardon as its not a programming question at all. But if anybody can answer this it will be usefull for me. In MS word 2007 I drew a textbox and entered some text. Then I right clicked on textbox and went to format shape Then went to TextBox tab and reduced the top internal margin to 0.1 cm. But still it seems there is too much space at the top inside the textbox. I am not able to position the text exactly at the vertical middle of textbox. If I choose the auto-rezide option in format Shape, the textBox size is increases automatically but the text remains exactly at vertical and horizontal middle of textbox. but anyhow I need the textbox to be small. This is very minor but annoying problem. Can anybody help?

• Fixing Outlook 2010's notorious 'Disabled Search Indexer' Add-in problem

  I have been impressed with the improvements in search introduced in Outlook 2010. Unfortunately, in the last week search has stopped working for me. I have tried all the obvious repair tasks such as repairing office, disabling all add-ins, rebuilding the index, compacting the PST, but no luck. It appears that 'mssphtb.dll' (Used by search) keeps crashing and as a result Outlook Disables it. I have tried re-enabling it, but Outlook immediately disables it again. I have had a look in the Windows Event Log as well, but Outlook does not appear to log any errors that occur when loading add-ins. A lot of people appear to have the same problem, but no fixes so far. I am considering installing Xobni, but I prefer to make Outlook work the way it is supposed to and not rely on 3rd party applications.

  I've recently installed SSMA on my computer and after connecting to both the Oracle instance (which holds the database to be converted) and the SQL Server. I've mapped the needed schemas from oracle to mssql. The problem is that when i click on the report button for the assessment report there's an error popping up: Assesment Error : Nothing to Process The output window states: Starting conversion... Analyzing metadata... Conversion finished with 0 errors, 0 warnings, and 0 informational messages. There is nothing to process. Has anyone got experience with SSMA. I can't figure out what I am doing wrong. Thank you.

  Hi, I'm currently using an win 7 as an network server at my home. I've created some shared folders wich can be accessed easily from any pc on my network (win and mac computers) recently I decided to turn on the win 7 pptp to access remotely to my server from anywhere. the problem is with that on, on my router my server ip change, acording to my ipconfig on the cmd my router gets the ip from a "PPP adapter RAS (dial in)". when that happens I cannot access to the shared files over the lan on my mac, but i can connect to the vpn but again can't access to my files. (i've tried connecting to the vpn from another network and it worked, even the file share) anyone can help me? thanks

When the user ask for https://mydomain.com i have to redirect it to https://www.mydomain.com, becose my https certificate is valid just for the domain with www. I create the vhost.conf into my /var/www/vhosts/mydomain.com/conf/ directory, with inside: <Directory /var/www/vhosts/mydomain.com/httpsdocs> AllowOverride All </Directory> And my .htaccess file into the /var/www/vhosts/mydomain.com/httpsdocs/ is: RewriteEngine on RewriteCond %{HTTPS_HOST} ^mydomain\.com RewriteRule ^(.*)$ https://www.mydomain.com/$1 [R=301,L] But seem like the .htaccess is completely ignored. Any idea?

• Ubuntu problem not connecting to wireless or wired network

  I recently installed openvpn and things were working. But I got a weird screen after a few hours and on restart my wired and wireless connections are not working. I tried both wired and wireless and both are not working. Usually if I ever have a problem with wireless, the wired always work! My /etc/network/interfaces is looking wrong.   I use hover.com to manage my domain names. I have having a huge problem with setting a sub-domain to a specific IP address: I want the sub-domain on a particular domain name that I have. I set an A type record for that sub-domain and pointed it towards the IP address; it is not working at all. The thing that is confusing me is that when I set the IP address to a sub-domain on a different domain name it works just fine. Also, I have since deleted the DNS record from the domain that it happened to work on, and when I type that address into a browser it still resolves to the IP I had it set to. I am not sure what is going on at all. If this seems confusing I am sorry, but I am very confused about the whole thing myself. If any clarification is needed, just ask and I will try to clear things up.

• Problem opening password encrypted .docx file on Word 2003

  Hi all, I am having a problem opening a .docx file on my Word 2003. I have installed the Compatibility pack for 2007 but when i try to open this particular file, I receive the error "Word experienced an error trying to open the file. Try these suggestions. 1. Check the file permissions for the document, 2. Make sure there is sufficient free memory and disk space, 3. Open the file with the Text Recovery converter. I do not think it is any of the errors as I am able to open it on a different PC with Word 2003 as well. I also do not have any issues opening any non-password encrypted .docx files. Has anyone experienced the same issue? Most posts on the internet relate to "open and repair" but as mentioned, I am able to open this file on another PC without any problems. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks, George

• Apache .htaccess problem: No input file specified.

  Hello Everyone, Can someone help me with this. I'm feeling like I've been hitting my head against a wall for over 2 hrs now. I've got Apache 2.2.8 + PHP 5.2.6 installed on my machine and the .htacces with code below works fine, no errors. RewriteEngine on RewriteCond $1 !^(index\.php|css|gfx|js|swf|robots\.txt|favicon\.ico) RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /index.php/$1 [L] The same code on my hosting provider server gives me a 404 error code and outputs only: No input file specified. index.php IS there. I know they have Apache installed (cannot find version info anywhere) and they're running PHP v5.2.8. I'm on windows xp 64-bit, they're running some Linux and php in cgi/fastcgi mode. Can anyone suggest what could be the problem? PS. if that's important that's for CodeIgniter to work with friendly URLs.

  Anyone know where I can get a Win 7 32Bit driver for my Web Cam (Vaio VGN-CR11H/B) ? I changed operating system from Chinese Vista to English Win 7 Update: Windows 7 will not detect the cam, but I just read the Sony Europe site and it gives me some ideas to try. I can dual boot this Sony laptop: with Chinese Vista, the camera works but IE8 does not work. I cannot read Chinese to fix the Internet access issue, but I can get the computer online and Skype works. When I boot with the new Win 7, IE 8 works great, but the cam doesn't work (mic and speakers work). Very perplexing problem.

• Lenovo Thinkpad SL500 and Keyboard Flex problem.

  I was testing a Thinkpad SL500 system at a local store and found the flexing of the keyboard to be quite a deal breaker for me; it was flexing quite prominently with very little pressure applied. I find it hard to believe that a business grade laptop should have this problem as a consumer grade laptop that I own (Dell Inspiron 1526) has very little keyboard flex and one needs to apply a lot of pressure to notice it. Is this a common issue with the SL500 or SL510 models of Thinkpad laptops? What about the Thinkpad R500, does this also suffer from similar issues?

• NAT Policy Inbound Source Problem on SonicWall TZ-210 with Multiple DSL Lines

  We recently added three more DSL connections to our SonicWall TZ-210. My NAT Policies work fine as long as I leave them set with an inbound interface of X1, which hosts our original DSL connection. However, I'd like to change some of the NAT Policies to use inbound source/interface X2, X3, X4 or Any. In my initial tests, when I change one of the policies to use an inbound interface of X2, that port forward policy does not work at all. Traffic never makes it to the internal destination. What could be the problem?

• Problem with PPTP VPN and internet

  Hello, I have an internet connection the following way : Internet Modem <- FireWall(not a router, a firewall) <- PC Everything is setup so my pc has an external ip address, and my firewall takes care of blocking bad stuff. I connect by VPN to an external network, so I added a new connection using Windows Xp's "New connection wizard" (the vpn client that comes with Windows XP), it's a PPTP connection so I used all default settings. I put the PPTP server's IP, my username and password and I succesfully connected. I was able to have access to the external VPN ressources. The only problem is everytime I connect to this VPN, my computer cannot connect to the web anymore, no msn, no ping, no web. Is there anything special I should be doing?
