    I am trying to get a Antivirus server for my Virtual Private Server that has Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 1.5 GB RAM and 40 GB HD. I see people have suggested for NOD32 or Kaspersky but they are not offering Internet security for one server in business edition (it starts with at least 5 PC) and they says I can't install home edition on my VPS as this is for business purpose. Is there any good antivirus/internet security program that I can buy for my single VPS? Any suggestion will help me. Thanks

    I have a Windows 2008 server with two IP addresses assigned to a single NIC. The DNS settings are setup to register the connections's addresses on the DNS server. nslookup shows both IP addresses for the server name. How is name resolution done in this case, i.e. which IP address does the DNS server return for a host lookup? Or does it return both, and the client selects one of the addresses?

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 network adapter stops working, requires hard reboot

    TL;DR version: Turns out this was a Windows Server 2008 R2 kernel networking bug. After siccing Microsoft support on it, we (eventually) got an unpublished kernel hotfix from Microsoft to address it. If you, too, are experiencing mysterious low-level network driver failures requiring a reboot/bluescreen cycle, you might want that hotfix (or maybe Service Pack 1 whenever it is released, too.) We have been using HAProxy along with heartbeat from the Linux-HA project. We are using two linux instances to provide a failover. Each server has with their own public IP and a single IP which is shared between the two using a virtual interface (eth1:1) at IP: 69.59.196.211 The virtual interface (eth1:1) IP 69.59.196.211 is configured as the gateway for the windows servers behind them and we use ip_forwarding to route traffic. We are experiencing an occasional network outage on one of our windows servers behind our linux gateways. HAProxy will detect the server is offline which we can verify by remoting to the failed server and attempting to ping the gateway: Pinging 69.59.196.211 with 32 bytes of data: Reply from 69.59.196.220: Destination host unreachable. Swapping network cards and switches I noticed the link light on the port of the switch for the failed windows server was running at 100Mb instead of 1Gb on the failed interface. I moved the cable to several other open ports and the link indicated 100Mb for each port that I tried. I also swapped the cable with the same result. I tried changing the properties of the network card in windows and the server locked up and required a hard reset after clicking apply. This windows server has two physical network interfaces so I have swapped the cables and network settings on the two interfaces to see if the problem follows the interface. If the public interface goes down again we will know that it is not an issue with the network card. (We also tried another switch we have on hand, no change) Changing network hardware driver versions We've had the same problem with the latest Broadcom driver, as well as the built-in driver that ships in Windows Server 2008 R2. Replacing network cables As a last ditch effort we remembered another change that occurred was the replacement of all of the patch cords between our servers / switch. We had purchased two sets, one green of lengths 1ft - 3ft for the private interfaces and another set of red cables for the public interfaces. We swapped out all of the public interface patch cables with a different brand and ran our servers without issue for a full week ... aaaaaand then the problem recurred. Disable checksum offload, remove TProxy We also tried disabling TCP/IP checksum offload in the driver, no change. We're now pulling out TProxy and moving to a more traditional x-forwarded-for network arrangement without any fancy IP address rewriting. We'll see if that helps. Switch Virtualization providers On the off chance this was related to Hyper-V in some way (we do host Linux VMs on it), we switched to VMWare Server. No change. Switch host model We've reached the end of our troubleshooting rope and are now formally involving Microsoft support.     We're getting the error "The user does not have permission to perform this action" during times of heavy load (regularly, when a trim job occurs). The error clears up when the service accessing sql server is restarted, so it's obviously not a real permissions problems. What kind of situations could cause an error like this, when it's not really a permissions problem? Any ideas of good places to start looking? thanks for any insights...

  • How to recover a MySQL InnoDB table?

    When I try to launch the Plesk administration page of you server I get the following error: ERROR: PleskMainDBException MySQL query failed: MySQL server has gone away The MySQL Server is working well. Although it seems that the plesk database is somehow corrupt and any action on this database results in a restart of the mysql process, so even queries to other databases on the same MySQL server will be lost. If I try to connect to the plesk database using phpMyAdmin, I can only see the number of tables, the database had originally. But I am not able to open the tables listing. As soon as I try it, the mysql process crashes again. Trying to connect to the database using ssh works. I can even run a SELECT statement against any table an get a result. I don't know if it is an plesk error or an error of the psa database or even the MySQL server. Can you give me any tips on how to recover the plesk system. Should I try to repair the Plesk installation before. And if so, how can I do it and will all my settings get lost doing it? EDIT: Trying to dump the database, I get the following error: mysqldump: Got error: 2013: Lost connection to MySQL server during query when using LOCK TABLES EDIT: I could find out, that the table 'data_bases' is responsible for the crash of the MySQL server process. But trying to repair it using a REPAIR TABLE statement doesn't work. EDIT: I now dropped the whole database and restored it from a dump. But why I try to recover the data_bases table I get the following error: ERROR 1005 (HY000) at line 24: Can't create table './psa/data_bases.frm' (errno: 121) I am not able to create the table again. Somewhere in the MySQL system there is still some information about this table. I tested the same thing locally. If I just delete the table files and then try to create the table again I get the same error. If I drop the table through MySQL, I can create the table again afterwards. But trying to drop the table using MySQL the whole MySQL system crashed. Is there any way to solve that issue?

    I am running a network with two server, one running SBS 2008 which hosts a majority of the network services (DNS, DHCP, Exchange, IIS, DC, AD...), including the primary webpage at mydomain.com. The other server is a linux box running an apache web server. I'm trying to set the apache server to host the site site2.mydomain.com. I have changed the DNS settings on the first server so that site2.mydomain.com can be accessed from the internal network, but I cannot access site2.mydomain.com from the internet. I have tried using server farms and application request routing cache, as described on this page, http://forums.iis.net/t/1156458.aspx, but I still can't access site2.mydomain.com from the internet. I don't have much experience with web servers, I usually just administer local networks, so I'm not sure if I'm going about this the right way. Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

    I have at home a D-Link DIR-615 C1 router with DD-WRT. I set up the SSH server on the router, and log on through an SSH2-RSA passphrase-protected key. That router is the gateway between the local network and the internet. One of the computers on that network has Microsoft SQL Server 2008 installed, with TCP/IP protocol enabled through port 1433. I've set up port forwarding on the router, so that remote connections are possible and are, in fact, working (some developers log on remotely without problems). I am part of another network, that has internet access through a proxy server, which only has ports 80 and 443 opened. I can't connect to that MSSQL server on that remote server because 1433 port is closed on this network. I connected (using Putty) through 443 port to my router's SSH server, and set up 2 tunnels. One is for RDP (3389), and it's working. The other is for 1433 port, to connect to the server. I can't connect through the SSH tunnel to the MS SQL Server, neither through telnet, or through GUI clients. Am I missing something? Additional details: on connect, I get this error from SQL Server Management Studio: TITLE: Connect to Server Cannot connect to localhost:14330. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 3) For help, click: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?ProdName=Microsoft+SQL+Server&EvtSrc=MSSQLServer&EvtID=3&LinkId=20476 BUTTONS: OK The tunnel is configured like this: L14330 192.168.0.103:1433 192.168.0.103 is the permanent address of the SQL Server on the LAN.
