• Redirect a url to another url in IIS 7.5

  I have no idea why this isn't working. I've tried creating map rules and then rewritng and redirecting the url. I've tried just redirecting it with a simple rewrite rule and no matter what, the only time I can get it to work is if I set the match url to match this regex .*. I'm trying to redirect webmail.example.com to mail.example.com. Seemed like it would have taken but a couple seconds; boy was I wrong.   I have music website. There are 46 album pages and each page has different player and files. I just entered the one of album's URLs in a search engine. I found that Google is displaying player code in search result content. For example, enter this URL in Google and check the results. Each result displays a .mp3 file in content section. I see this: This page contains a demo of and documentation for the new jPlayer Playlist add-on, ... mp3:"http://www.jplayer.org/audio/mp3/Miaow-01-Tempered-song.mp3", ... I don't want Google to show the player code and mp3 files in search result. How can I hide audio files and player code from search engine? What would be the best solution for it?

  I need to make a video slideshow( slides to contain embedded video players and must play mp4 files), and I am kind of confused what would be the best free solution I can use? jplayer and jwplayer both seem good, but I can't find any comparisons between them, so I want some expert opinions and user experiences on these two. Also if there are any other free and open source solutions you can recommend, i am all ears ;) My requirements are: The player must be html5 with fallback to flash. Should support mp4 files as well as flv. Should also have the ability to double as an audio player(mp3) along with video capabilities. Should be lightweight and customizable easily in terms of looks.

  Is there any way of configuring FileZilla so that I can open all the files on a server that I use to edit with just one click. For example if the files are like this:- /home/abc/def/one.txt /home/abc/def/yet/another/directory/two.txt /home/abc/def/ghi/yet/another/directory/three.txt then it is very time-consuming to navigate through each directory and open the required files. These are only 3 files but what if we have around 10 to 20 files? Yes, copying the path of the directories is one thing. But something that is built-in so that I can just click a button like open all the required files of this connection and it opens all the files in the editor (as set in FileZilla preferences) then that would be great!

I know that bad grammar is a also a problem because it drives away visitors and scares people from linking to it, but let's put that aside. Let's also put aside the fact that incorrectly spelt terms might be ignored by a crawler, potentially leading to less text-comparizon hits. QUESTION: Do search engines like Google directly recognize and penalize bad grammar? For instance because they might consider bad-grammar as a sign of low-quality content.

  I looked for an image for decorating the main page of my website. I found a great image in Wikipedia. The license allows me to use the image, but, I must give credit to the creators (which includes their name and a link to their Flickr page). My question is: what is the best way to give credit about the image, such that the page design will not be harmed? In case it matters: my page is very simple - it contains only the image (floated right), a heading, a small amount of text, and some links. But, my question is more general and probably applies to many different websites.

• Do any CDN services offer multiple urls (or aliases) for your files?

  Lets say a company has multiple commercial web properties that happen to use a lot of the same images on each site. For SEO reasons, the sites must not appear to be related to eachother in any way. This means that the sites can't all link to the same image, even though they all use the same one. Therefore, an image is uploaded to each site and served from each site separately. In order to improve maintainability and latency, lets say the company wanted to use a CDN service. What I'm wondering is, if you upload a file, like an image or something, to a CDN, is there basically one single URL that you access that image at? Or do some (or all) CDN services offer alias URLs so that you can access the same resource from multiple URLs? Example of undesirable situation: Both sites link to the same file URL Site ABC links to <img src="http://123.cdnservice.com/some-path/myimage.jpg"/> Site XYZ links to <img src="http://123.cdnservice.com/some-path/myimage.jpg"/> Example of DESIRABLE situation: Both sites link to the same file via different URLs Site ABC links to <img src="http://123.cdnservice.com/some-path/myimage.jpg"/> Site XYZ links to <img src="http://123.cdnservice.com/some-alias-path/myimage.jpg"/> So in the end, there is only one single file, myimage.jpg on the CDN server, but it is accessible from multiple URLs. Is this possible with CDN services? I know this would make browsers cache the same image twice, but at least it would be better for maintainability. Only one file would ever have to be uploaded.

Basically I want to have 6 versions of the site: UK English US English Default English ?? Austrian German Germany German Default German The question is, how do I define the "default" language versions, for any country with this language which isnt defined already? I know there is x-default, but I think you can only use that once and it is for all languages and all countries.

Now, I could easily rename the folder and get it sorted, but I would like to understand what's going on here. What would be the correct way to configure Apache in a way that it wont behave this way, and instead would listen to the Rewrite Rule? • Is the Mailchimp API available in other languages?

  I'm using the Mailchimp API in combination with PHP and jQuery to provide the subscribing/unsubscribing-actions on a website via Ajax. On errors with user data you get useful messages like "Invalid Email Address", "[email protected] is already subscribed to list x. Click here to update your profile." or "There is no record of "[email protected]" in the database". For sure I want to keep theses messages, but is there a way I can get them in other languages (in particular in German)? How would I achieve this? I wasn't able to find anything about in the Mailchimp docs. I wouldn't like to translate them myself...

• Nginx and Google Appengine Reverse Proxy Security

  The scenario is that I have a Google compute node running Nginx as a reverse proxy to the google appengine. The appengine is used to service REST calls from an single page application (SPA). HTTPS is used to the Nginx front end from the Internet. Do I also need to make the traffic from the Nginx reverse proxy to the appengine secure by turning on HTTPS on the appengine? I would like to avoid the overhead of HTTPS between the proxy and the backend. My thinking was that once the traffic has arrived at Nginx encrypted, decrypted in Nginx, and then sent via the reverse proxy inside of Google's infrastructure it would be secure. Is it safe in this case to not use HTTPS?

• Google Analytics async=true seems wrong in the Google documentation?

Also what calls should I look for in the Net tab in firebug to ensure that GA is being called when the page loads?

  First off, sorry if this is the wrong 'stack' site, but it seemed like a good place to start. I'm happy to report that my services as a web developer are starting to be in quite a lot of demand, and I have a few existing and potentially new customers all lining up - but I'm finding it very hard to keep track of everything. What I'm hoping for is some (preferably web-based) system which I can use to keep track of who my customers are, the various projects that I've got going on for them, and (if possible) the individual sub-tasks that make up each project. What would be even better is if the relevant customer was able to log into the site, and see the process of their projects. I do hope you know what I'm talking about, and that you'll be able to offer some suggestions of either web-base sites that offer something along these lines, or of some open source solution or something like that? • How do search engines handle hyphenated words?

  I am not sure my title fully explains what I mean. I thought this might be an interesting question. If I had a set of keywords, broken with a dash or 2, will search engines consider the dashed split keyword as maybe a full keyword? Say I have a site that sort of breaks words down, like the dictionary sites do. So a keyword for that page, might end up in the page, and / or the URL, as broken by dashes. Key-word = keyword Co-op-er-at-ive = cooperative Pho-to-gra-phy = Photography www.example.com/key-word/ www.example.com/co-op-er-at-ive/ www.example.com/pho-to-gra-phy/ I know search engines will consider a dash (at least Google) as a space, and understand it as multiple words. But in the English language, a dash can also break a word down (at least I think it can, can't it?), so will search engines also take this into consideration? I did a 'little' research, I Googled some words and placed random dashes, and it returned the words I searched for, but this could be considered a typo from the user on Google's search end, so really I am wondering if I can purposely put a dash in a keyword, and have the search engine spiders still catch that keyword as the real word without dashes? I've done a little Googling and looking here on Stackoverflow, but everything comes down to dashes for multiple words, not really the specific thing I'm trying to figure out. Hopefully that makes sense, I am not an expert in SEO, yet, but get the basics and have been playing, and this is just really a random question to satisfy my knowledge of playing :P

• Slideshows in elastic or fluid layouts?

  Hi folks, I'm building a new WordPress TwentyTen child theme using the ElastiCSS framework ( http://elasticss.com/ ) and am trying to figure out the best way of using some sort of dynamic content slideshow. What is the best way to implement a slideshow in a fluid or elastic layout such that it remains proportional to the other items in the content area? Should I even bother trying to obtain that? Or should I use like four different sizes in conjunction with something like the Less framework ( http://lessframework.com/ )? Thanks!   Hi all. Does anyone know of a hosted version of Yahoo! Answers (or Stackoverflow/Superuser) that I could integrate with my site? I know that there are some open-source implementations (see http://meta.stackoverflow.com/questions/2267/stack-overflow-clones?page=1&tab=votes#tab-top) but I'd rather have some hosted if possible. I know there is http://stackexchange.com/ as well, but I really want some tight integration with the rest of my site. Failing that, has anyone got any experience with the open source versions?   I would like to set up a server similar to Google's. Their domain acts like a double domain, like you can use these URLS, "play.Google.com" or "apps.Google.com", to go to different sites.. For example, my domain would now be "my_domain.com" but i would like another one to be "domain2.my_domain.com". My question is,what is this officially called and how do i set it up? I'm not sure if you need two servers or just 1;

• SSL setup with GoDaddy subdomains and EC2 servers

  We have two EC2 instances that are used to host various scripts. Our main page 'companyname.com' is hosted with GoDaddy but is unrelated to those EC2 instances. I need to setup SSL connections for the two EC2 microinstances, one running Linux AMI and the other running Windows Server. I purchased two single-domain Comodo certificates and am at the part to generate CSR's on the instances. I'm not sure what to put as "Server Name" on EC2. I would like each server to be accessible through a subdomain which I have forwarded on GoDaddy to the elastic IPs on EC2. For server name, do I use the elastic ip, the EC2 public dns, or the subdomain that I want? And which of these do I then place in my VirtualHosts file on Apache? The Windows instance is running IIS7 but the Apache box is priority.

So far I've considered: Having a separate mobile site (m.example.com) with rel="canonical" links to the regular site.   I am looking in to Google Webmaster Tools - Crawl Error section. How should I handle for those URL due their system / application showed invalid URL. e.g http://www.example/images/products/s_=enlarge_16gb.jpg but, I dunno what happen to yahoo groups, it break the link into http://www.example/images/products/s_= enlarge_16gb.jpg and I only make the top part become hyperlink, which is http://www.example/images/products/s_= Because of the URL, Google show crawl error, I got few error because of this kind of result or because other people typo error. How do I prevent this. I am sure I don't have the right go and change other people post. What is the solution for this. Thanks!

  I need to do client-side includes on a website for the navigation. The problem is the navigation is currently all html, and since I can't use php i've just been using js to include the html with document.write (). however, i read that this is not good for seo. While i know there are seo-friendly js navigation menus, I was wondering if there's a way to do this while including the html and not having to alter it very much? I also got it to work using embed with html which i know is super hacky but i don't really know that much about js and am frustrated being told not to use server side includes. thanks!!

  im building a pretty large website that will have many pages and folders. I have 1 stylesheet. How do I add the style sheet to "ALL" of these folders? I didnt have this problem before I started to put the pages in SEPERATE folders. Now that each page has its own folder it no longer reads my stylesheet unless its in the SAME folder Example, lets say I have a folder of pets, another of cars, and another of planes. I have to put my stylesheet in EACH and everyone of these folders so that I can see my site. How can I do it so that I do NOT have to put a stylesheet in each and every folder? In other words how can I get my stylesheets on the same page as my folders without having them in that folder? How can I get them to communicate while being in a different folder?

  I recently purchased one of those domain names like del.icio.us. While registering I found that delicious.com was being used. Argument: I found that delicious.com belonged to the same category as my to-be website. It served premium delicious dishes. Counter Argument: My to-be domain though belonging to the same category, specialized in serving free but delicious dishes or in giving out links(affiliate) to other sites serving premium delicious dishes. Additional Counter Arguments: 1.delicious.com was not in English. 2.the del.icio.us in my domain name though having the same spelling, is not going to be used in the same fashion. For eg.(this may not make sense, because the names have been changed)the d in delicious on my website actually stands for the greek letter Delta(?/d) and since internationalized domains are still not easily typable, I am going for the english equivalent.The prefix holds importance for the theme of the service which my website intends to offer. My Question: Can I use the domain name del.icio.us for my website? How are these kinds of matters dealt? (The domain names used are fictitious. And I have already registered the domain but have not started using it.I chanced upon this domain name because it was short, easy to remember and suited the theme of my website.)

  I have a quick question but I've been struggling to find the best solution: I have two java webapps and wordpress (php) that I need to serve through my Prod website: App #1 should be accessed when pointing to www.example.com/ (this would have other url too such as "www.example.com/book") App #2 should be accessed when pointing to www.example.com/manage Finally WordPress would be accessed at www.example.com/info How can I configure apache to serve all these three instances at the same time?
