  • Querying my JPA provider (Hibernate) for a collection of <Id,Name> of an entity

    Hi, I have an entity which looks something like this: Id (PK) Name Other business properties and associations... I have the need for my DAL (JPA with hibernate as provider) to return a list of the entities which correlate to some constraints (or just return them all) but instead of returning the entities themselves I'd like to receive only the Id and the Name properties. I know this can be achieved with HQL/SQL (something like: select id,name from entity where...) but I don't want to go down that road. I was thinking of somehow defining the pair a compositioned part of the entity and thought that might help me but I'm not sure that's "legal" as the Id is the PK. The logic for this scenario is to have a textbox which asynchronously queries the web-service (and through it the DAL) for the relevant entities and once an entity is selected then it is loaded as a whole and shipped to the front-end.     I have created the following interface public interface ISolutionSpace { public boolean isFeasible(); public boolean isSolution(); public Set<ISolutionSpace> generateChildren(); } However, in the implementation of ISolutionSpace in a class called EightQueenSolutionSpace, I am going to return a set of EightQueenSolutionSpace instances, like the following stub: @Override public Set<ISolutionSpace> generateChildren() { return new HashSet<EightQueenSolutionSpace>(); } However this stub wont compile. What changes do I need to make? EDIT: I tried 'HashSet' as well and had tried using the extends keyword. However since 'ISolutionSpace' is an interface and EightQueenSolutionSpace is an implementation(and not a subclass) of 'ISolutionSpace', it is still not working.

  • Implicit conversion between Scala collection types

    I would like to implicitly convert between the Scala XML Elem object and another representation of an XML element, in my case dom4j Element. I wrote the following implicit conversions: implicit def elemToElement(e: Elem): Element = ... do conversion here ... implicit def elementToElem(e: Element): Elem = ... do conversion here ... So far so good, this works. Now I also need collections of said elements to convert both ways. First, do I absolutely need to write additional conversion methods? Things didn't seem to work if I didn't. I tried to write the following: implicit def elemTToElementT(t: Traversable[Elem]) = t map (elemToElement(_)) implicit def elementTToElemT(t: Traversable[Element]) = t map (elementToElem(_)) This doesn't look too ideal because if the conversion method takes a Traversable, then it also returns a Traversable. If I pass a List, I also get a Traversable out. So I assume the conversion should be parametrized somehow. So what's the standard way of writing these conversions in order to be as generic as possible?

    I have an application for which I have enabled GC logging. The heap appears to grow then takes a sudden drop, but does not log a Full GC. If there some startup parameter that I can enable that will show me what GC event is reducing the heap size?   • C# type safe and developer friendly list/collection technique

    I am populating a "Dictionary" with the results of an sp call. The key is the field name and the value is whatever value the sp returns for the field. This is all well and good but I'd like developers to have a predefined list of keys to access this list, for safety and documentation reasons. What I'd like to do is have something like an enum as a key for the dictionary so developers can safely access the list, but still have the ability to access the dictionary with a string key value. I am hoping to have a list of string values that I can access with an enum key AND a string key. Please make sure any suggestions are simple to implement, this is not the kind of thing I'm willing to build a lot of overhead to implement.

  • How can I disable Java garbage collector ?

    Hi, we have a PHP webapp that calls a java binary to produce a pdf report (with jasperreport), the java binary outpus pdf to standart output and exits, the php then send the pdf to browser. This java command lasts about 3 to 6 seconds, I think when it lasts 6 second it's because the GC kicks in, so I would like to disable it because anyway when the command exits all memory is returned.. I would like to know how to disable it for Java 1.4.2 and for Java 1.6.0 because we are currently testing both JVM to see which performs faster.. Thanks

I have a problem where I need to allocate approximately 200 MB of objects, do something with them, and throw them away. What happens here is that all the data gets copied two times (from gen0 to gen1 and then from gen1 to gen2).

    If you stick to managed code and standard coding (nothing that does unconventional things withe CLR) in .NET, is there any reason to manually invoke the GC or request to run finalizers on unreferenced objects? The reason I ask is thaty I have an app that grows huge in Working Memory set. I'm wondering if calling System.GC.Collect(); and System.GC.RunFinalizers(); would help, and if it would force anything that wouldn't be done by the CLR normally anyways.

So, if anything on the site ever changes, switches places, or a new link is added - I will have to re-create the actions. Also, I can't check for any errors so I can't abort the script if something goes wrong (login failed, etc) Another alternative I have been looking at is Mechanize with Ruby (as a note - I have 0 experience with Ruby). What would be the best way to improve or rewrite this?

    Is there any method that is called or event that is dispatched right before an Element is cleaned up by the JavaScript garbage collector? In Perl I would write: package MyObj; sub new {bless {}} sub DESTROY {print "cleaning up @_\n"} and then later: { my $obj = MyObj->new; # do something with obj } # scope ends, and assuming there are no external references to $obj, # the DESTROY method will be called before the object's memory is freed My target platform is Firefox (and I have no need to support other browsers), so if there is only a Firefox specific way of doing this, that is fine. And a little background: I am writing the Perl module XUL::Gui which serves as a bridge between Perl and Firefox, and I am currently working on plugging a few memory leaks related to DOM Elements sticking around forever, even after they are gone and no more references remain on the Perl side. So I am looking for ways to either figure out when JavaScript Elements will be destroyed, or a way to force JavaScript to cleanup an object.

    Given this code, where we load a lot of data, write it to a file, and then run an exe.. void myMethod() { Map stuff = createMap(); //Consumes 250 MB memory File file = createFileInput(stuff); //Create input for exe runExectuable(file); //Run Windows exe } What is the best way to release the memory consumed by stuff prior to running the exe? We don't need this in memory any more as we have dumped the data to a file for input to the exe... Is the best method to just set stuff = null prior to runExecutable(file)?

    Hi, I am working with a generic data structure, say MyGeneric<Type>. There is a case where I have to iterate over all the values it holds The code I am trying to do. for ( all the keys in myGeneric ) { // do lot of stuff here } Now the generic can hold base type as double and string and it can hold some user-defined type also. There is a particular situation where I have to some specific work depending upon the type of the generic. so the final code block looks something like this for( all the keys in myGeneric ) { if key is type foo then //do foo foo else if key is of type bar //do bar bar } Now, as complexity sensitive as I am I do not like to have an if condition in the for loop. So the next solution I did was if myGeneric is of type foo call fooIterator(myGeneric) if myGenric is of type bar call barItetrator(myGeneric) function FooIterator() { // ..... // foo work //...... } function BarItetrator() { // ..... // bar work //...... } Then again when somebody sees my code then I am quite sure that they will shout where is the "refactoring". What is the ideal thing to do in this situation ? Thanks.

  • C# What would happen to GC if I run process with priority = RealTime?

    I have a C# app which runs with priority RealTime. It was all fine until I made few hectic changes in past 2 days. Now it runs out of memory in few hours. I am trying to find whether it is a memory leak I created of this is because I consume lot more objects than before and GC simply cant collect them because it runs with same priority. My question is - what could happen to GC when it tries to collect objects in application with RealTime priority (there is also at least one thread running with Highest thread priority)? (P.S. by realtime priority I mean Process.GetCurrentProcess().PriorityClass = ProcessPriorityClass.RealTime)

  • hibernate empty collection in component

    I have a component mapped using Hibernate. If all fields in the component in the database are null, the component itself is set to null by hibernate. This is the expected behavior and also what I need. The problem I have, is that when I add a bag to that component, the bag is initialized to an empty list. This means the component has a non null value... resulting in the component being created. I've tried using an Iterator in checkRemoval instead of an enhanced for-loop however that didn't help either. I really only need to get the part where the appointment is set to true to work, the checkRemoval seemed to be working early before implementing the changing of the boolean resolved. Any help will be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Things like: Create images with round corners read density into a static variable & re-use. 4 lines.. disable / hide multiple views / remote views at once. I'm searching for Github recommendations, links and if nothing is found, I perhaps will start a small project on github to collect.
