• LibreOffice english spelling dictionary missing

  I've got two machines, same OS (Ubuntu 11.10 x86_64), same LibreOffice ppa's (ppa:libreoffice/ppa). One has the "English spelling dictionaries, hyphenation rules, thesaurus..." extension in the extension manager, the other doesn't. Each upgraded using the ppa from 3.5.0 to 3.5.1. Can anyone provide some insight as to how to get this extension onto the second machine? I can remove LibreOffice from the second machine and install the packages from the LibreOffice site, but would prefer to keep the ppa - as I don't then need to remember to upgrade.

• How to convince my boss to improve code quality?

  The place I'm working for is a service provider. We have a lot of services, which are written to deal with deadline, so their code are really terrible: No coding convention, everyone codes in his own style No unit testing (which is really bad) No refactoring (which is truly worse) No automation build/deployment etc and these code are used again and again, so bad code continue to spread all over my department. I really want to set up a standard quality for our code, by requiring everyone to follow "rules": every line of code which does not follow convention will be rejected, and every function of code which does not pass unit testing will not be committed,...But I don't know how to convince my boss to allow me to do this. I'm relatively new comer, so inspiring people from my works is really hard, and I think it's easier if my boss support me to this. Thank you very much for your advices

Visual studio is doing some magic to replace it during compile/build time with the full assembly signature. The following apply to these tokens or replaceable parameters - Tokens can be specified anywhere in a line. Tokens cannot span multiple lines. • Right tool for the job(html5 vs silverlight)

  I have been tasked to develop a web based offer request application for bathrooms and I am asking opinions on which tool should I choose. I have narrowed options down to two (html5 and silverlight). Most of the application consists of basic UI elements that could be achieved with html4. However most challenging part is the design view for the bathroom. User first defines size of the bathroom by giving dimensions. When the dimensions are defined the application renders an empty bathroom floorplan and user can start dragging&dropping furniture on to it. Some furniture have rules where they can be dragged. For example sinks can only be dragged next to a wall. I know that this functionality can be achieved with silverlight but what about html5 ? I know that Canvas element can be used to draw graphics, but can it render the bathroom smoothly as user drags a piece furniture on it?

• can't ping from virtualbox ubuntu server --nat connection

  i set up an ubuntu server in virtual box following these and these instructions.My connection worked,also ssh . Then, i signed up in dyndns.com ,i configured the router ,but in the port forward i changed the 2222 port to 80 because it couldn’t forward from 2222.My port is open and accepting connections but i don’t have any more connection from the server in the virtual box. From virtual box settings-network-port forwarding , i use: Host IP :127.0.0.1 , Host port :80 , Guest Port :22 ,Guest IP : its empty. I am not sure if i am using right the address in /etc/network/interfaces , i use 192.168.0.2 and also this address i use for the firewall rules in the router. Also,in the server /etc/resolv.conf i put that address and in /etc/mysql/my.cnf. I can ping that address but nothing more.(of course neither ssh works) Thank you

  The materials and recording from the February 2012 call for JCP program Spec Leads is now available.  This call features Martijn Verburg, alternate EC representative for the London Java Community and includes information on the Adopt-a-JSR program.  The materials and audio recording of the  "Leveraging the Community" call can be found on the multimedia page of jcp.org .  The EC meeting summaries from February and March 2012 have also been posted.  Following the April 2012 EC Meeting this morning (minutes and materials will be posted soon), there are now four EC Members that have lost their voting privileges--AT&T, SK Telecom, Samsung and Twitter.  In order to regain their privileges, these EC Members must attend two EC meeting in a row, as detailed in the EC Standing Rules.

• What should a game have in order to keep humans playing it?

  In many entertainment professions there suggestions, loose rules, or general frameworks one follows that appeal to humans in one way or another. For instance, many movies and books follow the monomyth. In video games I find many types of games that attract people in different ways. Some are addicted to facebook gem matching games. Others can't get enough of FPS games. Once in awhile, though, you find a game that seems to transcend stereotypes and appeals almost immediately to everyone that plays it. For instance, Plants Versus Zombies seems to have a very, very large demographic of players. There are other games similar in reach. I'm curious what books, blogs, etc there are that explore these game types and styles, and tries to suss out one or more popular frameworks/styles that satisfy people, while keeping them coming back for more.

• General solution to solve different sports results in different languages

  I currently have some code that checks if squash and tennis scores are valid, both in javascript and PHP. This results in 4 blocks of code existing, 2 languages * 2 sports, which does not scale well should any extra sports come around, or extra languages... How can one describe the valid scores of games via a settings/text file, so that each language can parse them and apply these rules.   I installed jenkins via sudo apt-get install jenkins. However, it doesn't start up. Tried to start it manually using sudo /etc/init.d/jenkins start. Purpose is to learn the rules of adding new modules and features, so when it comes to maintaining existing ones there is some concept. • Should I prevent search engines indexing tag/category pages?

  On my site, I currently have no special rules for search engines. It is a blog, statically generated using a Python program. When I search for some of my articles on Google, there is usually a tag or category page included in the results. Sometimes it even ranks ahead of the article itself. Obviously, as these links aren't always going to have the article on them, this aren't the results I want people to click on. So, I'm thinking of setting noindex on these pages. Is there any possible downside to doing so? Is this possible to do via robots.txt, or do I have to add it to all the relevant templates? All I can find for robots.txt are ways to stop the search engine crawling those pages, which isn't what I want - while I don't want them indexed, it's still the only surefire way to find all my blog posts.

  Me and a friend got hooked on a board game and soon realized that we didn't need the board game to play, instead we could play it with pen and paper with extreme ease and satisfaction. The next step was to develop a simple android app to play it. We have been using this to play and it's fun, and we are interested in publishing it, but we are worried eventual copyright issues. The concept of the game - itself very simple, merely a type of trivia game, where each round has different rules - is the same, the name is different as is all the art. • I am thinking about developing a game, but i am single developer? [on hold]
