• Watson Ties Against Human Jeopardy Opponents

  In January we showed you a video of Waton in a practice round against Jeopardy champions Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter. Last night they squared off in a real round of Jeopardy with Watson in a tie with Rutter. Watson held his own against the two champions leveraging the 90 IBM Power 750 servers, 2,880 processors, and the 16TB of memory driving him to his full advantage. It was impressive to watch the round unfold and to see where Watson shined and where he faltered. Check out the video below to footage of Watson in training and then in action on Jeopardy. Pay special attention to the things that trip him up. Watson answers cut and dry questions with absolute lighting speed but stumbles when it comes to nuances in language–like finis vs. terminus in the train question that Jennings answered correctly. Yesterday I was trying to find a tweet I’d sent some time last year regarding my search for an application that could count keystrokes for inclusion in my review of the app I finally found to fulfill the need, KeyCounter. • Add collection or array to wpf resource dictionary

  I've search high and low and can't find an answer to this. I have two questions How do you create an array or collection in XAML. I've got an array I want to stick in there and bind to a combo box. My first idea was to put an ItemsControl in a resource dictionary, but the ItemsSource of a combo box expects IEnumerable so that didn't work. Here's what I've tried in my resource dictionary and neither works <ItemsControl x:Key="stateList"> <sys:String>AL</sys:String> <sys:String>CA</sys:String> <sys:String>CN</sys:String> </ItemsControl> <ItemsControl x:Key="stateList2"> <ComboBoxItem>AL</ComboBoxItem> <ComboBoxItem>CA</ComboBoxItem> <ComboBoxItem>CN</ComboBoxItem> </ItemsControl> and here's how I bind to it <ComboBox SelectedValue="{Binding Path=State}" ItemsSource="{Binding Source={StaticResource stateList2}}" > </ComboBox> EDIT: UPDATED I got this first part to work this way <col:ArrayList x:Key="stateList3"> <sys:String>AL</sys:String> <sys:String>CA</sys:String> <sys:String>CN</sys:String> </col:ArrayList> However, I'd rather not use an array list, I'd like to use a generic list so if anyone knows how please let me know. EDIT UPDATE: I guess XAML has very limited support for generics so maybe an array list is the best I can do for now, but I would still like help on the second question if anyone has an anser 2nd. I've tried referencing a merged resource dictionary in my XAML and had problems because under Window.resources I had more than just the dictionary so it required me to add x:Key. Once I add the key, the system can no longer find the items in my resource dictionary. I had to move the merged dictionary to Grid.Resources instead. Ideally I'd like to reference the merged dictionary in the app.xaml but I have the same problem Here's some sample code. • Add User to Database not working

  I'm really new to ASP.net and I am currently trying to create a registration page on a site. I was successful in adding a user to the database but I decided to add another feature into the code to check what userID's were available. For example, if a user deleted their account their userID would become available for use again. I'm trying to find the min value and the max value and add or subtract 1 depending on whether it is min or max. I can run the code I have written for this with no errors but the user is not added to the database. Can anyone help me figure out what I'm missing from my code to do this? EDIT Code adds a user to database but it adds the new user at -1 instead. I don't seem to be able to see where the issue is. • Byte Size Tips: How to Show Google / Gmail Contacts in the OS X Contacts App

  The Contacts app on OS X isn’t very interesting, but if you can use it to display your Gmail contacts, it’ll get a little bit better. Luckily it’s pretty easy to add your Google / Gmail contacts, but you’ll have to click the mouse a few times and maybe poke at the old keyboard once or twice to type in your email address and password. It’s worth noting that if you set up Gmail in the Mail app you shouldn’t have to do this. Since we prefer Gmail in a browser, that’s why we’re writing this. Or just because we’re procrastinating the book editing that we’re supposed to be doing. Don’t judge. Start by opening the Preferences for the Contacts app by heading up to the Menu bar. Go to Accounts and then click the + sign to add a new one. Choose CardDAV for the account type, use your Gmail username and password, and put google.com as the server address. If you are using two-factor authentication, you’ll need to create a specific password for this account.

  Does anyone know of a way to add additional attribute types to the @property keyword without modifying the compiler? Or can anyone think of another way to genericize getter/setter creation? Basically, I have a lot of cases in a recent project where it's handy for objects to lazily instantiate their array properties. This is because we have "event" objects that can have a wide variety of collections as properties. Subclassing for particular events is undesirable because many properties are shared, and it would become a usability nightmare. For example, if I had an object with an array of songs, I'd write a getter like the following: - (NSMutableArray *)songs { if (!songs) { songs = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; } return songs; } Rather than writing dozens of these getters, it would be really nice to get the behavior via... @property (nonatomic, retain, lazyGetter) NSMutableArray *songs; Maybe some fancy tricks via #defines or something? Other ideas?

How do you setup or create that relationship Id?

  Hi friends, I am trying to write a small application using bouncycastle algorithm, from the http://tinyurl.com/ylclavn (BouncyCastleProvider.java) it says we have to import and add the provider during runtime by the following code import org.bouncycastle.jce.provider.BouncyCastleProvider; Security.addProvider(new BouncyCastleProvider()); error - The import org.bouncycastle cannot be resolved; during import error - BouncyCastleProvider cannot be resolved to a type; when calling addProvider I though bouncycastle is not provided with the Android 1.6 SDK, so thought of installing separately. how should i do this? If Bouncycastle is shipped along with SDK, what should i do to avoid these errors? I am using Android 1.6, eclipse-V3.4.0 on winXP . Thanks in advance

• How to change VS2010 Add Reference box filter ?

  I'm getting used to the new IDE (it's vc# express), but the first contact is somewhat confusing. When I open the Add Reference dialog and switch to the .NET tab, a label above the assembly list states: "Filtered to:.NET Framework 4". And it's true - I can reference .NET 4.0 assemblies only plus things like XNA 3.1. However I can't see older assemblies i.e. Managed DirectX libs, which are obviously installed on my computer as there was no trouble with adding a ref to them in vc#08. What is this? How to change the filter? The label is read-only. These sound like dull guy's questions, but I'm out of lack of finding an answer and there is no intuitive solution. Thanks in advance.

  Using a .htaccess rewrite rule, I need to add "?q=" before the path on any URL's containing the word "imagecache" Therefore, if the URL is: http://mysite.com/sites/default/files/imagecache/myimage.jpg ...then it will really try: http://mysite.com/?q=sites/default/files/imagecache/myimage.jpg But that will ONLY happen if the URL contains "imagecache." Otherwise, it does no rewriting. Also, this will only happen if /sites/default/files/imagecache/myimage.jpg isn't already an existing image file. I believe I can do that using: RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f ...right? It's just the first part that I can't figure out.

How to generate links with HtmlHelper::link() adding/deleting such named parameters from the current URL? Basically I want create links to add/remove/modify the category:ID named parameter in the current URL. It must not touch the URL, anchor, other named parameters, GET parameters in the URL. Or how can I pass named parameters to HtmlHelper::link()?

I have tried dom-checkbox as well but can't get it to work. Any help is appreciated. • How To Disconnect Non-Mapped UNC Path “Drives” in Windows

  Have you ever browsed over to another PC on your network using “network neighborhood”, and then connected to one of the file shares? Without a drive letter, how do you disconnect yourself once you’ve done so? Really confused as to what I’m talking about? Let’s walk through the process. First, imagine that you browse through and connect to a share, entering your username and password to gain access. The problem is that you stay connected, and there’s no visible way to disconnect yourself. If you try and shut down the other PC, you’ll receive a message that users are still connected. So let’s disconnect! Open up a command prompt, and then type in the following: net use This will give you a list of the connected drives, including the ones that aren’t actually mapped to a drive letter. To disconnect one of the connections, you can use the following command: net use /delete \\server\sharename For example, in this instance we’d disconnect like so: net use /delete \\192.168.1.205\root$ Now when you run the “net use” command again, you’ll see that you’ve been properly disconnected. If you wanted to actually connect to a share without mapping a drive letter, you can do the following: net use /user:Username \\server\sharename Password You could then just pop \\server\sharename into a Windows Explorer window and browse the files that way. Note that this technique should work exactly the same in any version of windows.   Hi, I'm trying to implement an UPnP MediaServer in WCF. I'm slowly getting there, but now I've hit a brick wall. I need to add a prefix to the ServiceContract namespace. Right now I have the following: [ServiceContract(Namespace = "urn:schemas-upnp-org:service:ContentDirectory:1")] public interface IContentDirectory { [OperationContract(Action = "urn:schemas-upnp-org:service:ContentDirectory:1#Browse")] void Browse(string ObjectID, string BrowseFlag, string Filter, ulong StartingIndex, ulong RequestedCount, string SortCriteria, out string Result, out ulong NumberReturned, out ulong TotalMatches, out ulong UpdateID); } This listens to the correct soap-messages. However, I need the soap-body to begin with <u:Browse xmlns-u="urn:schemas-upnp-org:service:ContentDirectory:1"> and WCF is now listening to: <Browse xmlns="urn:schemas-upnp-org:service:ContentDirectory:1"> How do I get the prefix there? Does it matter? Or is there another reason why the parameters are not passed into the Browse method?

• How to add icons to a PopUpMenuButton in Flex 3 using an XML file

  Hi, I've been looking at the following example for populating a PupUpMenuButton http://blog.flexexamples.com/2008/02/21/creating-a-custom-label-function-on-a-flex-popupmenubutton-control/ and would like to add icons to each menu. Ideally, I would specify the icon in the xml and assign it in a similar way to using labelFunction for the text. I'm pretty new to Flex and would appreciate some guidance with this. The only information I've found via google is to create a menu as follows (seems I can't include more than one url, but it is an example that creates a menu object using the following function): private function initMenu():void { menu = new Menu(); menu.dataProvider = xmlList; menu.labelField = "@label"; menu.iconField = "@icon"; } but I would really prefer to build it all from the XML file. • Logical Domain Modeling Made Simple

  How can logical domain modeling be made simple and collaborative? Many non-technical end-users, managers and business domain experts find it difficult to understand the visual models offered by many UML tools. This creates trouble in capturing and verifying the information that goes into a logical domain model. The tools are also too advanced and complex for a non-technical user to learn and use. We have therefore, in our current project, ended up with using Confluence as tool for designing the logical domain model with the help of a few very useful plugins. Big thanks to Ole Nymoen and Per Spilling for their expertise in this field that made this posting possible. Confluence Plugins Here is a list of Confluence plugins used in this solution. Install these before trying out the macros used below. Plugin Description Copy Space Allows a space administrator to copy a space, including the pages within the space Metadata Supports adding metadata to Wiki pages Label Manages labeling of pages Linking Contains macros for linking to templates, the dashboard and other Table Enhances the table capability in Confluence Creating a Confluence Space First we need to create a new confluence space for the domain model. Click the link Create a Space located below the list of spaces on the Dashboard. Please contact your Confluence administrator is you do not have permissions to do this.   For illustrative purpose all attributes and entities in this posting are based on my imaginary project manager domain model. When a logical domain model is good enough for being implemented, do a copy of the Confluence Space (see Copy Space plugin). In this way you create a stable version of the logical domain model while further design can continue with the new copied space. Typical will the implementation phase result in a database design and/or a XSD schema design. Add Space Templates Go to the Home page of your Confluence Space. Navigate to the Browse drop-down menu and click on Advanced. Then click the Templates option in the left navigation panel. Click Add New Space Template to add the following three templates. It’s my believe that this helps the domain model to be more accurate, and better documented. In our real project we have more pages than illustrated here to complete the documentation. We do also still use UML tools to create different types of diagrams that Confluence do not support. As a last tip, an ImageMap plugin can make those diagrams clickable when used in pages. Enjoy!

• Add a Contextual Menu to WebView

  An easy one, I think: I want to add a contextual menu to a WebView. In IB, I added a NSMenu to the NIB, connected it to the WebView's menu outlet, launched and expected to be able to control-click in the WebView and see the pop-up menu. The only item I saw on the contextual menu is "reload". I can do the same steps but connect the Menu to some other view and it works as expected. Why doesn't the menu work the same when connect to the webview's menu outlet? Thanks
