I can't use DomDocument, it's in php cli, I need regex solution.. • Tap, Pan for a map & fixed headers - event conflict

  I'm currently developing a small WebApp that makes use of Google Maps (front-end uses jquery-ui-maps) jQuery Mobile with a fixed header & footer Now I encountered a conflict that appears on touch enabled devices as well as on desktop/mouse controlled "click" events: When I "tap" or "click" the map to actually "pan" it, then my header/footer toggles it's visibility. As I want to keep the toggle behaviour, I can't simply deactivate it, but showing/hiding the header/footer on every "pan" of the map is odd. After thinking some time about it, I think I got a concept that should work: Question: How I can I add a delay to the visibility toggle for the header/footer? So when I don't release the finger/mouse after XYms, the header/footer doesn't show/hide? • Integrate IPhone Safari like view in Android?

  The main concept goes like this. I have four listviews with its own data loaded at the same time. Only one listview will be visible to the user. Now, when the user presses a button, not only the current listview but also other three listviews should be minimized and then user can just scroll just as in Gallery and select the listview that one wants to open.   So I am not much of a source control expert, I've used SVN for projects in the past. I have to use Git for a particular project (client supplied Git repo). My workflow is as such that I will be working on the files from two different computers, and often I need to check in changes that are unstable when I move from place to place so I can continue my work. What then occurs is when, say, the client goes to get the latest version, they will also download the unstable code. In SVN, you can address this by creating a trunk and use working branches, or use the trunk as the working version and create stable branches. What is the equivalent concept in Git, and is there a simple way to do this via Github?

  Hello everyone, I am using Silverlight 3.0 + .Net 3.5 + VSTS 2008 + C# to develop a simple video application using MediaElement of Silverlight. I have two videos and I want to play them at the same time (similar to picture in picture effect) -- i.e. a part of the two videos are overlapped when they are playing (the same concept of Z-Order in UI design). I want to play one MediaElement on top of the other MediaElement, and I am wondering how to assign the overlap order (similar to set Z-Order UI element, but I did not find MediaElement has Z-Order property)? thanks in advance, George

• How to handle similar items in rails MVC?

  I'm working on building a pretty simple site mainly as an exercise in learning more about rails. You can see my rough progress at statific.com. It's working pretty much as I wanted it for keeping track of server information, but now I'd like to expand it to other things, next on the list being firewalls. I can pretty easily duplicate all the models, views, etc.. that I have for my servers. The problem I see with that is that it isn't very DRY since most of the code would look the same, the only difference would be the attributes I have setup for firewalls would be different than for servers. I know in plain ruby this is pretty simple, you can have a 'Product' w/ common attributes ('manufacturer', 'model') and then have children with more specific attributes. Does the same type of concept exist for rails, or am I just over thinking this?

• Python: Remove items from a list while iterating in Python

  My problem is simple: I have a long list of elements that I want to iterate through and check every element against a condition. Depending on the outcome of the condition I would like to delete the current element of the list, and continue iterating over it as usual. I have read a few other threads on this matter. Two solutions seam to be proposed. Either make a dictionary out of the list (which implies making a copy of all the data that is already filling all the RAM in my case). Either walk the list in reverse (which breaks the concept of the alogrithm I want to implement). • Creating a custom Publishing Portal Web site in SharePoint 2010

  Custom Web sites built on SharePoint are cropping up everywhere (just visit topsharepoint.com to see). With that said, my question pertains to creating a fully customized, branded site using SharePoint as the CMS as depicted by many of the topsharepoint.com sites. I understand the concept of creating the custom master master page(s) (SharePoint 2010 even includes a minimal.master to start). The problems I have are: What site template does one use? In 2007 the recommended front-facing Web site site collection template was the Publishing Portal. Is this still the case? What navigation do you use? Do you leverage the OOB navigation? If so, how do you style it extensively? How do you keep the on-page editing capabilities within the new site template? Are there any online tutorials are walk-throughs that address all of these issues? I have been searching, but it's really sparse out there.

• Reformat a YouTube URL using jQuery

  I am using the YouTube Channel jQuery script to pull in data from a YouTube channel. Then I'm using an iFrame on the page to display the videos without leaving the site. The only problem is that the URLs the Channel plugin is pulling in don't quite work with my iFrame concept. They load the whole YouTube page instead of just the video. I figured out a workaround that basically I reformat the URL and tell it to display fullscreen and to autoplay will do what I would like it to do. The URLs are currently formatted like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxxxxxxxx&feature=youtube_gdata and I need them to be rewritten as http://www.youtube.com/v/xxxxxxxxx?fs=1&autoplay=1 I've seen a couple of similar topics here on SO, but given my limited jQuery and regex talents I wasn't able to get anything to work for my purposes.

  I understand the concept of some_instance.send but I'm trying to figure out why you can call this both ways? The Ruby Koans imply that there is some reason beyond providing lots of different ways to do the same thing and I'm wrestling with figuring this out.   Hi all, I am trying to get started with JSON in Python, but it seems that I misunderstand something in the JSON concept. I followed the google api example, which works fine. But when I change the code to a lower level in the JSON response (as shown below, where I try to get access to the location), I get the following error message for code below: Traceback (most recent call last): File "geoCode.py", line 11, in test = json.dumps([s['location'] for s in jsonResponse['results']], indent=3) KeyError: 'location' How can I get access to lower information level in the JSON file in python? Do I have to go to a higher level and search the result string? That seems very weird to me? • Can't find data_warehouse ruby gem.

  I am working on a project and i was trying make it up and running in my local machine. But unfortunately the app is using a gem data_warehouse( found gem 'data_warehouse', '= 1.5.2' in environment.rb), I tried to look for this gem but can't find this gem, I was unable to run the application because of this. I never used data warehousing in ruby on rails either. I am slightly aware of the concept data warehousing. If any one aware of this gem please post the url for this gem or an alternate solution for avoiding this problem.

• NoSQL and meteorological data

  So there's this new cool thing, these NoSQL-databases. And so there's my data: Rows of rows of rows of meteorological data: Values, representing certain measurements at a certain station (Identified by a WMO number, not coordinates), at a certain time. Not every station measures every parameter, not every parameter is measured all the time. I store this data (30 years worth of hourly values, resulting in ~1 billion values) currently in MySQL. The continous growth and the forseeable addition of even more data give me a little headache. Reading about the document based NoSQL systems which seem to scale rather easily, I was wondering if NoSQL is a viable data storage concept for meteorological data too. Do you have any experience with this?

• Best compiled language for Mac OS X and Linux compatibility

  We need to write some software that will compile and run on both an Mac OS X server and Ubuntu. We would love to use Objective-C with all of its Cocoa goodness, however the GNUstep implementations of the parts we are using are broken (in the latest Ubuntu package anyway.) In light of this should we use C++ (I would really rather not), C or something else that we have not thought of? It is a server/back-end process that is very resource intensive, Java and other interpreted versions of this software perform much worse than the Objective-C proof of concept we have written, hence we now wish to re-write in a "compiled[1]" language. (NB: Some people might consider this subjective, however at the end of the day we do need to get a job done, there has to be a reasonably appropriate correct answer here). [1] Compiled to native CPU instructions, not compiled into "byte codes" that then have to be run by an interpreter.

• XSLT good choice for web framework?

  I've always thought of XML (and SGML before that) data as the devil's format. I'm of the old database and flat files school. Nonetheless, we are developing a commercially-available web product who's framework is based off of translating/transforming XML data in chains. As we're interviewing for positions as well talking to potential customers, they love the concept of what it will do but are weary of supporting XSLT long-term. One person even called it the proverbial "dead." Dead like COBOL, Unix, and C or dead like Apple Business BASIC? Anyway, I'm curious if building a web framework on XSLT is really not cutting edge enough (oddly) for companies. Are there inherent XSLT implementation problems that make this venture something worth reconsidering?

• .NET Process.Start() on an executable on a remote system - security warning?

  I've created a Windows Service that accepts commands from remote machines via WCF. One of those commands is to run a specified executable (let's ignore the security implications of such functionality). In my Service I am using Process.Start() to run the executable. All works well if the executable is local to the machine, but if it is on a remote file share it is failing with no error (or more accurately just hanging). I suspect the problem is that it is triggering the standard Windows 'Unverified Publisher' warning that one would see if they double click an exe on a remote system. Is there any way I can bypass this from my service so that I can truly run any executable? As I said I understand the security implications of allowing it to run any executable, but this is really what I need. I would have thought this warning was only a user mode concept, but it really does seem to be getting in the way of my Service. Ideas?

• PHP MVC Framework Structure

  I am sorry about the amount of code here. I have tried to show enough for understanding while avoiding confusion (I hope). I have included a second copy of the code at Pastebin. (The code does execute without error/notice/warning.) I am currently creating a Content Management System while trying to implement the idea of Model View Controller. I have only recently come across the concept of MVC (within the last week) and trying to implement this into my current project. One of the features of the CMS is dynamic/customisable menu areas and each feature will be represented by a controller. Therefore there will be multiple versions of the Controller Class, each with specific extended functionality. I have looked at a number of tutorials and read some open source solutions to the MVC Framework. I am now trying to create a lightweight solution for my specific requirements. I am not interested in backwards compatibility, I am using PHP 5.3. An advantage of the Base class is not having to use global and can directly access any loaded class using $this->Obj['ClassName']->property/function();. Hoping to get some feedback using the basic structure outlined (with performance in mind). Things that can be modelled nicely by Reader-, Writer-, Maybe-monads and the like in Haskell and composed together with monad transformers. But there seem to some drawbacks: The concept behind monad transformers is quite tricky and hard to understand, monad transformers lead to very complex type signatures, and they inflict some performance penalty. So I'm wondering: Are monad transformers best practice when dealing with those common tasks mentioned above?

• Which build tool to teach?

  While similiar questions have been asked, this one's focused on which is best/easiest to teach. I'm giving a weekly tutorial at my university focusing on data structures and algorithms. Fromn time to time I introduce tools which may prove helpful in future projects like JUnit, Mercurial, Eclipse etc.. I plan to show them some kind of build tool but I'm not sure which one to choose. I by myself have very little knowledge about build tools, except a little experience in using make. It's more the concept of a build tool I want to show them, not a special tool per se. Which would be the most easiest/future proof/whatever tool to show them? I've read a little bit about Gradle, which looks nice, but so far I think Ant could be a good choice (it's a Java course I'm giving).

  I am trying to understand the concept of cellid (http://www.opencellid.org/api) As per that, if we send a request http://www.opencellid.org/cell/get?key=myapikey&mnc=1&mcc=2&lac=200&cellid=234 it will respond with the latitude and longitude. I was wondering if this can be used from within a google map application for tracking a user or it needs to be used from within a mobile device? If it can be used from within a web app, what parameters should it use for mcc: mobile country code (decimal) mnc: mobile network code (decimal) lac: locale area code (decimal) cellid: value of the cell id E.g., will it work if we know the cell number of the person(e.g., 281 222 6700)

• Develop an classic UI or be bold with a newer design?

  Forgive me if this is the wrong place but I am curious as to how other programmers feel about this topic: I am currently working on my portfolio site, it is being designed and built in silverlight 4. I initially started off with a typical stylised e-folio theme much like a standard website in terms of layout and flow. As I work more in the concept stages something has struck me. Am I trying to shoe-horn yesterday into today? What I am talking about is UI expectations. I'm all for clean user interfaces but that does not mean they should not take advantage of new concepts in presentation right? If you where to develop a site in silverlight as your own portfolio piece would you stick to the tried and tested "website" feel or would you try to come up with a UI that is intuitive and complements the technology? I feel that UI discussions are all the more important now that all forms of web development are allowing better methods to engage the user.

• what is the idea behind scaling an image using lanczos?

  Hi, I'm interested in image scaling algorithms and have implemented the bilinear and bicubic methods. However, I have heard of the lanczos and other more sophisticated methods for even higher quality image scaling and I am very curious how they work. Could someone here explain the basic idea behind scaling an image using lanczos (both upscaling and downscaling) and why it results in higher quality? I do have a background in fourier analysis and have done some signal processing stuff in the past, but not with relation to image processing, so don't be afraid to use terms like "frequency response" and such in your answer :) EDIT: I guess what i really want to know is the concept and theory behind using a convolution filter for interpolation. (Note: i have already read the wikipedia article on lanczos resampling but it didn't have nearly enough detail for me) thanks alot!
