  • How can I use Web Services Core to send a complex type as a parameter to a SOAP API method

    I don't do much Cocoa programming, so I'm probably missing something obvious, so please excuse the basic question. I have a SOAP method that expects a complex type as a paramater. That same method returns a complex type which WSC converted into nested NSDictionaries, so no problems there. So I assumed I'd be able to convert my local TestItemResponse class into an NSDictionary and then use that as the complex type param. It almost worked, but unfortunately WSC set the object's type as "Dictionary", instead of "TestItemResponse", and the server complained. <TestItemResponse xsi:type=\"SOAP-ENC:Dictionary\"> <ErrorFullDescription xsi:type=\"xsd:string\">foo</ErrorFullDescription> ... I can't seem to find anything that allows you to override the type WSC assigns to the element in the SOAP XML. I've been using code adapted from here, I'm happy to list it, it's just quite long and this is already the longest SO question I've ever posted.

    Our shopping website is based on drupal's ubercart. I have setup ApacheSolr and ApacheSolr Ubercart integration modules. I have created a few products on my website, but am unable to get these products indexed. The default ApacheSolr module works, i.e., I am able to index drupal's default stories. But am unable to achieve indexing for ubercart. Guidance is greatly appreciated. Even links to tutorials to set these up would be helpful.

  • How do I access SourceGear Web services using SOAP::Lite?

    For some reason SourceGear provide an undocumented Web service on their installations. They actually ask developers to use the API instead because the Web service is kinda messy, but this is a problem in my case because I cannot use this API on a Perl environment, so their solution for my specific case is to use the Web service. This shouldn't be a problem. Using SOAP::Lite I have connected to several Web services in the past in the same way. But the lack of documentation is a major chaos if you don't know where the SOAP calls can be made. I only have an XML to decipher where to and how to make these calls. It would be great if a real SOAP genius could help me out in this.   • Dynamically burn Feedburner feeds?

    We have a Drupal website with a seperate RSS feed for every blogger on the site. There will be an indeterminate number of new users signing up and blogging in the future. Drupal automatically generates an RSS feed for each new blog. Is there a way to automatically burn each feed as well? We'd like to avoid manually adding a new feed to Feedburner every time a new user starts their blog.

  • sifr menu list problems, height of object calculated wrong

    I am using Drupal and have sifr set on list items, and also a, a:hover are set via Drupal so that the links hover. I looked at the sifr3-rules.js file drupal's render module creates and it looks good. and in fact my other sifr items look fine... But the list item ones are goofing for some reason... There is extra space below the list, so if i have a list item, and inside of that, I have a unordered list with more list items, the Flash Object made in the 1st li (which will cover the rest of the sublist items too), is too bid so you see space under the children until the next parent li comes up. (so looks like extra bottom padding on that portion of the list in IE8... in FF almost similar but each subitem has space at bottom... with javascript turned off, you see the list items look fine by themselves).... Also if the parent list item is shorter than the sub list items text, the width for the flash object is set only as long as the first list item, and therefore cuts off the rest the sublist item's text. Any idea how to resolve any of these? Only unusual thing i see i am doing is setting forceSingleLine and preventWrap (which dont make a difference if taken off). ****Edit, I may just try to figure out how to get Drupal's menu-block module to output a around my hyperlinks in the list items... then i can target the div's with my rule (and the a,a:hover rules will apply), so each menu item gets its own sifr object instead of sifr3 trying to figure out how to do the lists and sublists. Very useful to me is anyone knows a way to target a hyperlink (<a> tag) and also allow a:hover rules. I know how to do it with pretend another tag that includes hyperlinks, like if i had <h2><a>sometitle</a></h2>, i could have a rule for h2, but then use the a, a:hover rules in the sifr3-rules.js file to target that. so i would need a way to target the hyperlink in the list, but also apply a :hover to it (not sure if this can be done since its not underneith for example the h2 tag).

  • Windows Server 2008 Services won't start after patch

    After installing the run of the mill patches today on a Windows Server 2008 (Running as an AD controller and Exchange 2007 Server) the machine came back up with "configuring updates stage 3 of 3 0% complete". The machine had been kept reasonably up to date so this likely was caused by a very recent patch. At the leaste the following patches were installed: KB973037 KB969947 KB973565 Restarting the server into safe mode and then subsequently rebooting (with no changes made) allowed the computer to restart and I can now log in normally. However none of the critical services start; including but not limited to Exchange, DNS and Terminal Services (Obviously if DNS doesn't start other things will break). I am unable to run Internet Explorer but Chrome will work. There are no meaningful errors in the event logs as to why services won't start. Under KDC I have The Key Distribution Center (KDC) cannot find a suitable certificate to use for smart card logons, or the KDC certificate could not be verified. Smart card logon may not function correctly if this problem is not resolved. To correct this problem, either verify the existing KDC certificate using certutil.exe or enroll for a new KDC certificate. This is going to be an evil one to debug and I'm kinda hoping someone has encountered it and knows the answer off hand. Thanks all.

  • SharePoint, Exchange and Incoming Emails Without Directory Management Services

    Trying to keep this as simple as possible. We've already created the email accounts that we need (e.g. account[1-20]@domain.com) on Exchange/AD. We'd like to now enable incoming emails on SharePoint 2007 lists corresponding to these accounts. My thinking is we don’t need to configure Directory Management Services [2] – the architecture will be simpler without it and the application doesn’t require these services. However, we still need to route messages from Exchange to either local SMTP services (via the connector described in the articles below) or by user-specific drop-folder settings (if permitted by Exchange). So the question is: can we instruct Exchange to use a drop folder just for accounts account[1-20]@domain.com? or do we need to change the accounts to account[1-20]@sharepointsmtp.domain.com and re-route those message to the local SMTP service that will drop them on disk?   • Using Computer name in URL causes issues when connecting to Web Services

    The set of applications I work on all access the same 8 or so web services that we have. These services and applications all reside on the same box and all use the computer name when trying to connect to the web service. For Example: If I have a web service called MapDataService and I have an application that accesses it, it would access it by the URL: http://COMPUTERNAME/MapDataService/MapDataService.asmx. This works in most of the applications that access the web service. However, we have several applications that, when using the computer name in the URL, will not get data returned from the service (actually a 503 is returned). In order to get it to work, the IP address of the system needs to be used in place of the COMPUTERNAME. This strikes me as very odd considering, as I mentioned before, all applications and services are on the same box and most other applications usr the COMPUTERNAME with no issues. Can someone give me some insight as to what could be causing this? We have no access to IIS logs and what logs we did get (this is on a customer site) are not very useful.

  • 2012 R2 services will not start after promotion to Domain Controller

    Having a peculiar issue promoting a Windows 2012 R2 server in a domain at 2003 domain/forest functional level. Built a new 2012 R2 server, added the following software (labtech, appassure, eset A/V, & Teamviewer). It activated and appeared to be working fine. I added the Active Directory Domain Services role, and completed the configuration (Domain/Forest Prep, and DC promotion). All appeared to go well. I rebooted the server, and that's where the peculiar stuff began. I noticed the server indicated it needed activated again; but would not accept the key. I verified the key was good. That's when I noticed the Software Protection service (as well as many other core services - Base Filtering engine, DHCP client, firewall, etc) would not start. The error message for all of them was "Access Denied". I called MS, and they wanted to troubleshoot at a service level. Their fix was to use procmon and identify the resource that needed permissions (registry key, file or folder) and add "everyone" with full control). That got the services to start; but the problem re-appeared after a reboot. Thinking the issue might have been with the anti-virus package during the promotion process, I rebuilt the DCs from scratch and removed the metadata from AD (as I could not demote the machines "rpc server unavailble"). I tried to promote the newly built machines again. The only changes to the brand new machines being critical updates. Again the promotion appeared to work fine; but upon reboot (and a long wait to allow replication to occur) similar problems began to re-appear. I have verified that the schema updates are correct (schema version is 69 - for Windows 2012 R2). I am not finding much about this issue through my own searches, so I thought I would post this to see if anyone else has seen anything similar...

  • OData to the rescue. Exposing the eventlog as a data feed

    In one of the project where I was working one, we used the Microsoft Enterprise Library Exception Application Block integration with WCF for logging all the technical issues on the services/backend in Windows Event Log. This application block worked like a charm, all the errors were correctly logged on the Event Log without even needing to modify the service code. However, we also needed to provide a quick way to expose all those events to the different system users so they could get access to all the them remotely. In just a couple of minutes I came up with a simple solution based on ADO.NET Data Services. ADO.NET data services is very powerful in this sense, you only need to provide a IQueryable implementation, and that’s all. You get a RESTful service with rich query support for free. The “DataServiceKey” is only necessary because I am using the Reflection Provider (the exposed IQueryable implementation is just Linq to Objects) rather than the default Entity Framework Provider. Unfortunately, the permissions set in Windows 2008 for remote non-admin users don't include the ability to enumerate or otherwise query services. This causes anything that contacts the SCM on the far end to fail (Win32_Service, sc.exe, services.msc etc). How do I set up permissions so that they can at least list the services and see if they are running?

    We have a Windows server (2008 R2) with the "Remote Desktop Services" feature installed and no Active Directory domain. Remote desktop is set up to "Allow connections only from computers running Remote Desktop with Network Level Authentication (more secure)". This means that before the remote screen is displayed, the connection is authenticated in a "Windows Security: Enter your credentials" window. The only two role services installed on this server is the RD Session Host and Licensing. When the "User must change password at next logon" checkbox is selected in the properties for a local user on this server, the following displays on a client computer after attempting to connect using the credentials that were last valid: On some other servers using RDP for admin access (but without the Remote Desktop Services role installed), the behavior is different -- the session begins and the user is given a change password prompt on the remote screen. What do I need to do to replicate this behavior on the Remote Desktop Services server?

  • Sysadmin 101: How can I figure out why my server crashes and monitor performance?

    I have a Drupal-powered site that seems to have neverending performance problems. It was butt-slow about 5 months ago. I brought in some guys who installed nginx for anonymous visitors, ajaxified a few queries so they wouldn't fire during page load, and helped me find a few bottlenecks in the code. For about a month, the site was significantly faster, though not "fast" by any stretch of the word. Meanwhile, I'm now shelling out $400/month to Slicehost to host a site that gets less than 5,000/uniques a day. Yes, you read that right. Go Drupal. Recently the site started crashing again and is slow again. I can't afford to hire people to come in, study my code from top to bottom, and make changes that may or may not help anymore. And I can't afford to throw more hardware at the problem. So I need to figure out what the problem is myself. Questions: When apache crashes, is it possible to find out what caused it to crash? There has to be a way, right? If so, how can I do this? Is there software I can use that will tell me which process caused my server to die? (e.g. "Apache crashed because someone visited page X." or "Apache crashed because you were importing too many RSS items from feed X.") There's got to be a way to learn this, right? What's a good, noob-friendly way to monitor my current apache performance? My developer friends tell me to "just use Top, dude," but Top shows me a bunch of numbers without any context. I have no clue what qualifies as a bad number or a good number in Top, or which processes are relevant and which aren't. Are there any noob-friendly server monitoring tools out there? Ideally, I could have a page that would give me a color-coded indicator about how apache is performing and then show me a list of processes or pages that are sucking right now. This way, I could know when performance is bad and then what's causing it to be so bad. Why does PHP memory matter? My apparently has a 30MB memory foot print. Will it run faster if I bring that number down? Thanks for any advice. I spent a year or so trying to boost my advertising income so I could hire a contractor to solve my performance woes. I didn't want to have to learn all this sysadmin voodoo. I'm now resigned to the fact that might not have a choice.

Is there a way to make JavaScript bookmarklets show up as Mac OS X "Services", or otherwise execute JavaScript against the selected text in any Mac OS X app?
