  My application requires the user to enter their business name, which the application will automatically create into a unique identifier to be used in URLs, ie "Bob's Cafe" will become "bobs-cafe" But if there are duplicate names I would like the application to add a number so if there is already a "bobs-cafe" we will use "bobs-cafe-1" and likewise if there is already a "bobs-cafe-1" we will use "bobs-cafe-2" Ive used explode and also looked at a regular expressions but I dont know the best way to approach this.   I got a model TrackedItem with a generic relation linking to any model it is supposed to track. If I do that: t = TrackedItem(content_object=MyModel) t.save() t.save() I get : IntegrityError: (1062, "Duplicate entry '1' for key 'PRIMARY'") Indeed, the first save has created an entry with "1" as a PK. But the second save should not insert, it should update. How am I suppose to update a model I can't save twice? With an ordinary model I can save as much as I want.

• Is it good practice to generally make heavyweight classes non-copyable?

  I have a Shape class containing potentially many vertices, and I was contemplating making copy-constructor/copy-assignment private to prevent accidental needless copying of my heavyweight class (for example, passing by value instead of by reference). To make a copy of Shape, one would have to deliberately call a "clone" or "duplicate" method. Is this good practice? I wonder why STL containers don't use this approach, as I rarely want to pass them by value.

But get this, I duplicate the index.html file, rename it and upload it as another page (as a template to work from) and now the PHP include function is not working on that page, even though it's exactly the same code hosted on the same server with the same .htaccess file.   There is apparently a bug introduced in the latest Java update for Mac OS X, which causes deletes in JFormattedTextFields to be performed twice. See http://lists.apple.com/archives/java-dev/2010/May/msg00092.html The DefaultEditorKit.deletePrevCharAction is invoked twice when the delete key is pressed. Are there any suggestions for a workaround? I'm thinking of replacing the delete action for my text fields with a patched version that somehow filters out these duplicate invocations.
