• How to handle all exceptions in a web java project

  I am doing an web java project about an hotel reservation. I am using, sql, hibernate, java server pages. I want to know how can I redirect an incoming exception to an error.jsp file . There are a lot of java code , and a lot of jsp file. So I want to rederict every exception that I haven't handle to an error page, is there any way to do it ? An exception can come from everywhere and I can't know and handle them all ( for example an user can write to much data in an textfield, and it will generate me an sql exception for data to long) Thank you, sorry for my english.

  Hi guys! Let's assume we have the following method in the business layer. What's the best practice to tell the UI layer that something went wrong and give also the error message? Should the method return an empty String when it was OK, otherwise the error message, or should it throw another exception in the catch code wrapping the caught exception? If we choose the second variant then the UI should have another try,catch which is too much try,catch maybe. Here is a pseudocode for the first variant. public String updateSomething() { try { //Begin transaction here dataLayer.do1(); dataLayer.do2(); dataLayer.doN(); } catch(Exception exc) { //Rollback transaction code here return exc.message; } return ""; } Is this a good practice or should I throw another exception in the catch(then the method will be void)?

• Which data structure for List of objects + datagrid wiev

  Hi, I have to develop a code which will store a list of objects, as example below 101, value 11, value 12, value 13 ...etc 102, value 21, value 22, value 23 ...etc 103, value 31, value 32, value 33 ...etc 104, value 41, value 42, value 43 ...etc Now, the difficulty is, that first column is an identifier, and whole table should always be sorted by it. Easy access to each element is required. Additionally, list should be easily updated, and extended by adding element at the end as well as in front and still keep being sorted by first column. Finally, I would like to be able to display values of the above in datagridview. What is most important is a performance of the implementation, as rows will be updated many times per second, and datagridview should be able to display all changes immediately. I was thinking about creating class for the values, and then a Dictionary but encountered a problem with displaying values in gridview. What would be the most optimal way of implementing the code?   Hi, Is it possible to set multiple properties of an NSManagedObject and have the NSFetchedResultsController call controllerDidChangeContent: only once? In other words, is it possible to say something like: [managedObject beginChanges]; [managedObject setPropertyA:@"Foo"]; [managedObject setPropertyB:@"Bar"]; [managedObject commitChanges]; and then have the NSFetchedResultsController call controllerDidChangeContent: (and the other methods) only one time? • How to recover ~1TB data from a bricked NAS?

  I bought an IcyBox NAS a little while back, and it recently died on me. I have physical access to the disks inside (1.5TB RAID 1 array), and the box was running a version of Linux. I now have the difficulty of retrieving the data from the disks. All I have available are 2 Windows machines, one of which has sufficient free space to hold the data from the NAS.   I have an interface called iIncident which defines a single method when(). when() should return a DateTime object. I'm trying to decide what to do if $object->when() has no DateTime to return as might be the case just after an object is instantiated and before all its properties are set. My choices are: return false throw some kind of Exception return some default DateTime like '9999-01-01' My inclination is to go with an Exception since $object really can't act as an incident until it knows when it occurred. I don't want to return a default DateTime because it complicates comparisons and it's not true. And I don't really want to return false because then I have to check for it every time I call the method- but if that is the preferred method, I guess I will. Is throwing an exception the best way? And is there a predefined exception type I should use (none of the SPL ones struck me as particularly appropriate- but that might just indicate my lack of experience)?

  Primarily this seems to be a technique used by games, where they have all the sounds in one file, textures in another etc. With these files commonly reaching the GB size. What is the reason behind doing this over maintaining it all in subdirectories as small files - one per texture which many small games use this, with the monolithic system being favoured by larger companies? Is there some file system overhead with lots of small files? Are they trying to protect their property - although most just seem to be a compressed file with a new extension?

  Hi there, I need to match a series of user inputed words against a large dictionary of words (to ensure the entered value exists). So if the user entered: "orange" it should match an entry "orange' in the dictionary. Now the catch is that the user can also enter a wildcard or series of wildcard characters like say "or__ge" which would also match "orange" The key requirements are: * this should be as fast as possible. * use the smallest amount of memory to achieve it. If the size of the word list was small I could use a string containing all the words and use regular expressions. however given that the word list could contain potentially hundreds of thousands of enteries I'm assuming this wouldn't work. So is some sort of 'tree' be the way to go for this...? Any thoughts or suggestions on this would be totally appreciated! Thanks in advance, Matt

  Hi everybody, I have tried for some time to work out a way of sorting nested categories with jQuery. I failed to build my own plugin to do this, so I tried to find something that were available already. • Implementing Tagging using Core Data on the iPhone

  I have an application that uses CoreData and I'm trying to figure out the best way to implement tagging and filtering by tag. For my purposes, if I was doing this in raw SQLite I would only need three tables, tags, item_tags and of course my items table. Then filtering would be as simple as joining between the three tables where only items are related to the given tags. Quite straightforward. But, is there a way to do this in CoreData and utilizing NSFetchedResultsController? It doesn't seem that NSPredicate give you the ability to filter through joins. NSPredicate's aren't full SQL anyway so I'm probably barking up the wrong tree there. I'm trying to avoid reimplementing my app using SQLite without CoreData since I'm enjoying the performance CoreData gives me in other areas. Yes, I did consider (and built a test implementation) diving into the raw SQLite that CoreData generates, but that's not future proof and I want to avoid that, too. Has anyone else tried to tackle tagging/filtering with CoreData in a UITableView with NSFetchedResultsController

  In my app I try to scroll a UITableView to the top once after I updated the content of the table. However, under some circumstance, my table is EMPTY. • Win32 Thread Exits Unexpectedly

  Hello, I'm writing a C++ application. I realized that one of my worker threads may terminate unexpectedly. The (VS 2005) debug log says: The thread 'Win32 Thread' (0x5d98) has exited with code -858993460 (0xcccccccc). I surrounded all the worker thread code with a try/catch block. So, if the reason was an exception, I would catch it. But I can't: try{ ... Connection* conn = connectionPool->getConnection(); // unexpected exit occurs here ... } catch(exception& e) { ... } I have ten threads running concurrently, and only one of them gets crashed after some time, while the others continue running (and getting new [OCCI] connections). Is there an exception type that is not caught by "exception"? Or what do I not know about threads/exceptions? Thanks.

What I would like to do is to select the elements which belong to a particular user (username = myUsername) and particular menu*s* (minDate < menu.date < maxDate).   hi i have a weird problem and here we go: i am redirecting using this command : return RedirectToAction("ViewMessage", "Account", new {id = model.MessageId}); but in ViewMessage action when i try to get id, its null ?!?!?!?!?? string strMessageId = RouteData.Values["id"] as string; i have done this code in lots of places and it works fine but i dont know what is going on here.... :( i know i can use TempData but i dont want to :)
