• Another floating point question

  I have read most of the posts on here regarding floating point, and I understand the basic underlying issue that using IEEE 754 (and just by the nature of storing numbers in binary) certain fractions cannot be represented. I am trying to figure out the following: If both Python and JavaScript use the IEEE 754 standard, why is it that executing the following in Python .1 + .1 Results in 0.20000000000000001 (which is to be expected) Where as in Javascript (in at least Chrome and Firefox) the answer is .2 However performing .1 + .2 In both languages results in 0.30000000000000004 In addition, executing var a = 0.3; in JavaScript and printing a results in 0.3 Where as doing a = 0.3 in Python results in 0.29999999999999999 I would like to understand the reason for this difference in behavior. In addition, many of the posts on OS link to a JavaScript port of Java's BigDecimal, but the link is dead. Does anyone have a copy?

  I've an access database table with 3 fields : Purchase date Warranty time Warranty expiry Warranty time has 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 in it which corresponds to years. How can I auto-populate the 'Warranty expiry' field (which is a date field) by looking at the 'Purchase date' and then adding on the 'Warranty time' (warranty time will be 1 = 365 days, 2 = 730 days, etc)?

  During a recent job interview, I was asked to give a solution to the following problem: Given a string s (without spaces) and a dictionary, return the words in the dictionary that compose the string. For example, s= peachpie, dic= {peach, pie}, result={peach, pie}. I will ask the the decision variation of this problem: if s can be composed of words in the dictionary return yes, otherwise return no.   Hay guys, I'm writing a simple app which logs recipes. I'm working out my models and have stumbled across a problem My Dish models needs to have many Ingredients. This is no problem because i would do something like this ingredients = models.ManyToManyfield(Ingredient) No problems, my dish now can have many ingrendients. However, the problem is that the ingredient needs to come in different quantities. I.E 4 eggs, 7 tablespoons sugar My Ingredient Model is very simple at the moment class Ingredient(models.Model): name = models.TextField(blank=False) slug = models.SlugField(blank=True) How would i go about work out this problem? What fields would i need to add, would i need to use a 'through' attribute on my ManyToManyfield to solve this problem?

  right now I have this line, and it worked until I had whitespace in the second field. svn status | grep '\!' | gawk '{print $2;}' > removedProjs is there a way to have awk print everything in $2 or greater? ($3, $4.. until we don't have anymore columns?) I suppose I should add that I'm doing this in a windows environment with cygwin.

• C++ - Resources in static library question

  Hello! This isn't a duplicate of http://stackoverflow.com/questions/531502/vc-resources-in-a-static-library because it didn't help :) I have a static library with TWO .rc files in it's project. When I build my project using the Debug configuration, I retrieve the following error (MSVS2008): fatal error LNK1241: resource file res_yyy.res already specified Note, that this happens only in Debug and Release library builds without any troubles. The command line for Resources page in project configuration looks the same for every build: /fo"...(Path here)/Debug/project_name.res" /fo"...(Path here)/Release/project_name.res" and I can't understand what's the trouble. Any ideas? UPDATE I don't know why this happens, but when I turn "Use Link-Time Code Generation" option on the problem goes away. Could somebody explain why does this happen? I feel like MS-compiler is doing something really strange here. Thanks.

  Hi, I'm trying to look through an array of records (staff members), in this loop, I call a function which returns another array of records (appointments for each staff member). foreach($staffmembers as $staffmember) { $staffmember['appointments'] = get_staffmember_appointments_for_day($staffmember); // print_r($staffmember['appointments'] works fine } This is working OK, however, later on in the script, I need to loop through the records again, this time making use of the appointment arrays, however they are unavailable. foreach ($staffmembers as $staffmember) { //do some other stuff //print_r($staffmember['appointments'] no longer does anything } Normally, I would perform the function from the first loop, within the second, however this loop is already nested within two others, which would cause the same sql query to be run 168 times. Can anyone suggest a workaround? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
