  • Run Tomcat Service as Different User on Windows 7

    I have installed Tomcat6 using the 32-bit/64-bit Windows Service Installer download version. In the setup instructions, it is recommended that "For optimal security, the service should be run as a separate user, with reduced permissions". I created a new local/standard user (Tomcat) to run the service. The Tomcat service is listed in my list of Services and it's running under my user profile. However, I can't figure out how to set/change which user to start it as.

  • Is it possible to have XP Mode in Windows 7 Home Premium?

    I have Windows 7 Home Prem 32-bit with 2GB RAM. I have some older software that won't run so am wondering if i can run XP Mode? Is it only possible if you have Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate? If that is the case is there any other way to do something similar or will i need to install XP on another HD or partition?

  • Error: Multilib version problems found

    What causes this error? Error: Multilib version problems found. This often means that the root cause is something else and multilib version checking is just pointing out that there is a problem. Eg.: 1. You have an upgrade for glibc which is missing some dependency that another package requires. Yum is trying to solve this by installing an older version of glibc of the different architecture. If you exclude the bad architecture yum will tell you what the root cause is (which package requires what). You can try redoing the upgrade with --exclude glibc.otherarch ... this should give you an error message showing the root cause of the problem. 2. You have multiple architectures of glibc installed, but yum can only see an upgrade for one of those arcitectures. If you don't want/need both architectures anymore then you can remove the one with the missing update and everything will work. 3. You have duplicate versions of glibc installed already. You can use "yum check" to get yum show these errors. ...you can also use --setopt=protected_multilib=false to remove this checking, however this is almost never the correct thing to do as something else is very likely to go wrong (often causing much more problems).   • What benefit do I get from using a 64-bit server?

    I bought a small 256MB slice from slicehost and installed Ubuntu 10.04 64bit and wordpress on it. Performance was dismal as apache was eating up all my memory. Once I did some taming of apache and switched to fCGI things ran fine. Next I rebuilt as a 32 bit server, and performance was much better. What benefit would I get from a 64 bit server. Is it all about the memory?

An example: "My Documents": every day, incrementally to D:\My_Documents.bkf Drive C: every month, incrementally to D:\All.bkf As far as I understand it, ntbackup.exe marks files as having been backed up in the file system.     In an effort to increase speed in my Vmware setup, I was thinking about converting a Windows XP Guest 32 bit I have from growable to pre-allocated, I'm currently running VMWare Workstation 7 with Windows 7 64 bit as the host. Specs: Dual Core CPU, one allocated to guest 4GB of RAM, 2GB to guest HD max capacity is 500GB, 150GB allocated to guest (I have 300GB left and don't mind parting with the space, currently HD is 80GB and converting would obviously add another 70GB of space), HD that guest is running on is separate from Host OS Either that or any other suggestions you have might be appreciated, thanks!

    I'm in a process of renewing/expanding my disk sets, but not quite sure what kind of disks to get, cache-wise. What difference does disk cache amount of 16/32/64MB do, in capacities of, say, 1/1.5/2TB SATA disks? The disks will be used in a webapp server and in a media workstation, with Linux's softraid in raid-1/raid-5 configurations. Note, that as both purposes are purely for a hobby, the pricetag for a dozen of disks is a big issue.

  • Windows 98 style flat icons in Windows XP

    I am using Windows XP. I am tired of looking at the folder icons in Windows XP. I changed the color depth to 256 colors and the folder icons in Windows Explorer changed to the flat - windows 95/98 style icons. I loved them! is there a way to tell windows explorer to show those flat old style icons for folders? without going to 8-bit? Note: I am okay with going down from 32-bit, but 8 is way too low to work with.
