  • Linux router: ping doesn't route back

    - by El Barto
    I have a Debian box which I'm trying to set up as a router and an Ubuntu box which I'm using as a client. My problem is that when the Ubuntu client tries to ping a server on the Internet, all the packets are lost (though, as you can see below, they seem to go to the server and back without problem). I'm doing this in the Ubuntu Box: # ping -I eth1 my.remote-server.com PING my.remote-server.com (X.X.X.X) from 10.1.1.12 eth1: 56(84) bytes of data. ^C --- my.remote-server.com ping statistics --- 13 packets transmitted, 0 received, 100% packet loss, time 12094ms (I changed the name and IP of the remote server for privacy). From the Debian Router I see this: # tcpdump -i eth1 -qtln icmp tcpdump: verbose output suppressed, use -v or -vv for full protocol decode listening on eth1, link-type EN10MB (Ethernet), capture size 65535 bytes IP X.X.X.X > 10.1.1.12: ICMP echo reply, id 305, seq 7, length 64 IP 10.1.1.12 > X.X.X.X: ICMP echo request, id 305, seq 8, length 64 IP X.X.X.X > 10.1.1.12: ICMP echo reply, id 305, seq 8, length 64 IP 10.1.1.12 > X.X.X.X: ICMP echo request, id 305, seq 9, length 64 IP X.X.X.X > 10.1.1.12: ICMP echo reply, id 305, seq 9, length 64 IP 10.1.1.12 > X.X.X.X: ICMP echo request, id 305, seq 10, length 64 IP X.X.X.X > 10.1.1.12: ICMP echo reply, id 305, seq 10, length 64 IP 10.1.1.12 > X.X.X.X: ICMP echo request, id 305, seq 11, length 64 IP X.X.X.X > 10.1.1.12: ICMP echo reply, id 305, seq 11, length 64 ^C 9 packets captured 9 packets received by filter 0 packets dropped by kernel # tcpdump -i eth2 -qtln icmp tcpdump: verbose output suppressed, use -v or -vv for full protocol decode listening on eth2, link-type EN10MB (Ethernet), capture size 65535 bytes IP 192.168.1.10 > X.X.X.X: ICMP echo request, id 360, seq 213, length 64 IP X.X.X.X > 192.168.1.10: ICMP echo reply, id 360, seq 213, length 64 IP 192.168.1.10 > X.X.X.X: ICMP echo request, id 360, seq 214, length 64 IP X.X.X.X > 192.168.1.10: ICMP echo reply, id 360, seq 214, length 64 IP 192.168.1.10 > X.X.X.X: ICMP echo request, id 360, seq 215, length 64 IP X.X.X.X > 192.168.1.10: ICMP echo reply, id 360, seq 215, length 64 IP 192.168.1.10 > X.X.X.X: ICMP echo request, id 360, seq 216, length 64 IP X.X.X.X > 192.168.1.10: ICMP echo reply, id 360, seq 216, length 64 IP 192.168.1.10 > X.X.X.X: ICMP echo request, id 360, seq 217, length 64 IP X.X.X.X > 192.168.1.10: ICMP echo reply, id 360, seq 217, length 64 ^C 10 packets captured 10 packets received by filter 0 packets dropped by kernel And at the remote server I see this: # tcpdump -i eth0 -qtln icmp tcpdump: verbose output suppressed, use -v or -vv for full protocol decode listening on eth0, link-type EN10MB (Ethernet), capture size 96 bytes IP Y.Y.Y.Y > X.X.X.X: ICMP echo request, id 360, seq 1, length 64 IP X.X.X.X > Y.Y.Y.Y: ICMP echo reply, id 360, seq 1, length 64 IP Y.Y.Y.Y > X.X.X.X: ICMP echo request, id 360, seq 2, length 64 IP X.X.X.X > Y.Y.Y.Y: ICMP echo reply, id 360, seq 2, length 64 IP Y.Y.Y.Y > X.X.X.X: ICMP echo request, id 360, seq 3, length 64 IP X.X.X.X > Y.Y.Y.Y: ICMP echo reply, id 360, seq 3, length 64 IP Y.Y.Y.Y > X.X.X.X: ICMP echo request, id 360, seq 4, length 64 IP X.X.X.X > Y.Y.Y.Y: ICMP echo reply, id 360, seq 4, length 64 IP Y.Y.Y.Y > X.X.X.X: ICMP echo request, id 360, seq 5, length 64 IP X.X.X.X > Y.Y.Y.Y: ICMP echo reply, id 360, seq 5, length 64 IP Y.Y.Y.Y > X.X.X.X: ICMP echo request, id 360, seq 6, length 64 IP X.X.X.X > Y.Y.Y.Y: ICMP echo reply, id 360, seq 6, length 64 IP Y.Y.Y.Y > X.X.X.X: ICMP echo request, id 360, seq 7, length 64 IP X.X.X.X > Y.Y.Y.Y: ICMP echo reply, id 360, seq 7, length 64 IP Y.Y.Y.Y > X.X.X.X: ICMP echo request, id 360, seq 8, length 64 IP X.X.X.X > Y.Y.Y.Y: ICMP echo reply, id 360, seq 8, length 64 IP Y.Y.Y.Y > X.X.X.X: ICMP echo request, id 360, seq 9, length 64 IP X.X.X.X > Y.Y.Y.Y: ICMP echo reply, id 360, seq 9, length 64 18 packets captured 228 packets received by filter 92 packets dropped by kernel Here "X.X.X.X" is my remote server's IP and "Y.Y.Y.Y" is my local network's public IP. So, what I understand is that the ping packets are coming out of the Ubuntu box (10.1.1.12), to the router (10.1.1.1), from there to the next router (192.168.1.1) and reaching the remote server (X.X.X.X). Then they come back all the way to the Debian router, but they never reach the Ubuntu box back. What am I missing? Here's the Debian router setup: # ifconfig eth1 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 94:0c:6d:82:0d:98 inet addr:10.1.1.1 Bcast:10.1.1.255 Mask:255.255.255.0 inet6 addr: fe80::960c:6dff:fe82:d98/64 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:105761 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:48944 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:40298768 (38.4 MiB) TX bytes:44831595 (42.7 MiB) Interrupt:19 Base address:0x6000 eth2 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 6c:f0:49:a4:47:38 inet addr:192.168.1.10 Bcast:192.168.1.255 Mask:255.255.255.0 inet6 addr: fe80::6ef0:49ff:fea4:4738/64 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:38335992 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:37097705 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:1 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:4260680226 (3.9 GiB) TX bytes:3759806551 (3.5 GiB) Interrupt:27 eth3 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 94:0c:6d:82:c8:72 UP BROADCAST MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:0 (0.0 B) TX bytes:0 (0.0 B) Interrupt:20 Base address:0x2000 lo Link encap:Local Loopback inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0 inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1 RX packets:3408 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:3408 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:0 RX bytes:358445 (350.0 KiB) TX bytes:358445 (350.0 KiB) tun0 Link encap:UNSPEC HWaddr 00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00 inet addr:10.8.0.1 P-t-P:10.8.0.2 Mask:255.255.255.255 UP POINTOPOINT RUNNING NOARP MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:2767779 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:1569477 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:100 RX bytes:3609469393 (3.3 GiB) TX bytes:96113978 (91.6 MiB) #     In our COM project, we need to choose between best string class implementation so that BSTR (used for COM interfaces) and elegant string class like CString provides many string manipulation APIs. Are there any better way to handle the strings and string operations so that it can be BSTR complaints as well as we can have naive CString operations?

  • OSX: How to get a volume name (or bsd name) from a IOUSBDeviceInterface or location id

    - by LG
    Hi, I'm trying to write an app that associates a particular USB string descriptor (of a USB mass storage device) with its volume or bsd name. So the code goes through all the connected USB devices, gets the string descriptors and extracts information from one of them. I would like to get the volume name of those USB devices. I can't find the right API to do that. I have tried to do that: DASessionRef session = DASessionCreate(kCFAllocatorDefault); DADiskRef disk_ref = DADiskCreateFromIOMedia(kCFAllocatorDefault, session, usb_device_ref); const char* name = DADiskGetBSDName(disk_ref); But the DADiskCreateFromIOMedia function returned nil, I assume the usb_device_ref that I passed was not compatible with the io_service_t that the function is expecting. So how can I get the volume name of a USB device? Could I use the location id to do that? Thanks for reading. -L FOO_Result result = FOO_SUCCESS; mach_port_t master_port; kern_return_t k_result; io_iterator_t iterator = 0; io_service_t usb_device_ref; CFMutableDictionaryRef matching_dictionary = NULL; // first create a master_port if (FOO_FAILED(k_result = IOMasterPort(MACH_PORT_NULL, &master_port))) { fprintf(stderr, "could not create master port, err = %d\n", k_result); goto cleanup; } if ((matching_dictionary = IOServiceMatching(kIOUSBDeviceClassName)) == NULL) { fprintf(stderr, "could not create matching dictionary, err = %d\n", k_result); goto cleanup; } if (FOO_FAILED(k_result = IOServiceGetMatchingServices(master_port, matching_dictionary, &iterator))) { fprintf(stderr, "could not find any matching services, err = %d\n", k_result); goto cleanup; } while (usb_device_ref = IOIteratorNext(iterator)) { IOReturn err; IOCFPlugInInterface **iodev; // requires <IOKit/IOCFPlugIn.h> IOUSBDeviceInterface **dev; SInt32 score; err = IOCreatePlugInInterfaceForService(usb_device_ref, kIOUSBDeviceUserClientTypeID, kIOCFPlugInInterfaceID, &iodev, &score); if (err || !iodev) { printf("dealWithDevice: unable to create plugin. ret = %08x, iodev = %p\n", err, iodev); return; } err = (*iodev)->QueryInterface(iodev, CFUUIDGetUUIDBytes(kIOUSBDeviceInterfaceID), (LPVOID*)&dev); (*iodev)->Release(iodev); // done with this FOO_String string_value; UInt8 string_index = 0x1; FOO_Result result = FOO_SUCCESS; CFStringRef device_name_as_cf_string; do { if (FOO_SUCCEEDED(result = FOO_GetStringDescriptor(dev, string_index, 0, string_value))) { printf("String at index %i is %s\n", string_index, string_value.GetChars()); // extract the command code if it is the FOO string if (string_value.CompareN("FOO:", 4) == 0) { FOO_Byte code = 0; FOO_HexToByte(string_value.GetChars() + 4, code); // Get other relevant information from the device io_name_t device_name; UInt32 location_id = 0; // Get the USB device's name. err = IORegistryEntryGetName(usb_device_ref, device_name); device_name_as_cf_string = CFStringCreateWithCString(kCFAllocatorDefault, device_name, kCFStringEncodingASCII); err = (*dev)->GetLocationID(dev, &location_id); // TODO: get volume or BSD name // add the device to the list break; } } string_index++; } while (FOO_SUCCEEDED(result)); err = (*dev)->USBDeviceClose(dev); if (err) { printf("dealWithDevice: error closing device - %08x\n", err); (*dev)->Release(dev); return; } err = (*dev)->Release(dev); if (err) { printf("dealWithDevice: error releasing device - %08x\n", err); return; } IOObjectRelease(usb_device_ref); // no longer need this reference }

  • trie reg exp parse step over char and continue

    - by forest.peterson
    Setup: 1) a string trie database formed from linked nodes and a vector array linking to the next node terminating in a leaf, 2) a recursive regular expression function that if A) char '*' continues down all paths until string length limit is reached, then continues down remaining string paths if valid, and B) char '?' continues down all paths for 1 char and then continues down remaining string paths if valid. 3) after reg expression the candidate strings are measured for edit distance against the 'try' string. Problem: the reg expression works fine for adding chars or swapping ? for a char but if the remaining string has an error then there is not a valid path to a terminating leaf; making the matching function redundant. I tried adding a 'step-over' ? char if the end of the node vector was reached and then followed every path of that node - allowing this step-over only once; resulted in a memory exception; I cannot find logically why it is accessing the vector out of range - bactracking? Questions: 1) how can the regular expression step over an invalid char and continue with the path? 2) why is swapping the 'sticking' char for '?' resulting in an overflow? Function: void Ontology::matchRegExpHelper(nodeT *w, string inWild, Set<string> &matchSet, string out, int level, int pos, int stepover) { if (inWild=="") { matchSet.add(out); } else { if (w->alpha.size() == pos) { int testLength = out.length() + inWild.length(); if (stepover == 0 && matchSet.size() == 0 && out.length() > 8 && testLength == tokenLength) {//candidate generator inWild[0] = '?'; matchRegExpHelper(w, inWild, matchSet, out, level, 0, stepover+1); } else return; //giveup on this path } if (inWild[0] == '?' || (inWild[0] == '*' && (out.length() + inWild.length() ) == level ) ) { //wild matchRegExpHelper(w->alpha[pos].next, inWild.substr(1), matchSet, out+w->alpha[pos].letter, level, 0, stepover);//follow path -> if ontology is full, treat '*' like a '?' } else if (inWild[0] == '*') matchRegExpHelper(w->alpha[pos].next, '*'+inWild.substr(1), matchSet, out+w->alpha[pos].letter, level, 0, stepover); //keep adding chars if (inWild[0] == w->alpha[pos].letter) //follow self matchRegExpHelper(w->alpha[pos].next, inWild.substr(1), matchSet, out+w->alpha[pos].letter, level, 0, stepover); //follow char matchRegExpHelper(w, inWild, matchSet, out, level, pos+1, stepover);//check next path } } Error Message: +str "Attempt to access index 1 in a vector of size 1." std::basic_string<char,std::char_traits<char>,std::allocator<char> > +err {msg="Attempt to access index 1 in a vector of size 1." } ErrorException Note: this function works fine for hundreds of test strings with '*' wilds if the extra stepover gate is not used Semi-Solved: I place a pos < w->alpha.size() condition on each path that calls w->alpha[pos]... - this prevented the backtrack calls from attempting to access the vector with an out of bounds index value. Still have other issues to work out - it loops infinitely adding the ? and backtracking to remove it, then repeat. But, moving forward now. Revised question: why during backtracking is the position index accumulating and/or not deincrementing - so at somepoint it calls w->alpha[pos]... with an invalid position that is either remaining from the next node or somehow incremented pos+1 when passing upward?

  • Please verify my layout: bottom button keeps coming up over keyboard

    - by steff
    Hi everyone, I have a layout which does almost what I want. There's just one bug regarding the button at the bottom. I should stay at the bottom at all times. But whenever I bring up the soft-keyboard the button will be displayed above the keyboard. This is not what I want but it should become covered by the keyboard. Moreover, I'd be happy if you could comment on how the layout's built. • How can I truncate an NSString to a set length?

    - by nevan
    I searched, but surprisingly couldn't find an answer. I have a long NSString that I want to shorten. I want the maximum length to be around 20 characters. I read somewhere that the best solution is to use substringWithRange. Is this the best way to truncate a string? NSRange stringRange = {0,20}; NSString *myString = @"This is a string, it's a very long string, it's a very long string indeed"; NSString *shortString = [myString substringWithRange:stringRange]; It seems a little delicate (crashes if the string is shorter than the maximum length). I'm also not sure if it's Unicode-safe. Is there a better way to do it? Does anyone have a nice category for this?

  • iPhone App IDs and Provisioning... Does App ID get used instead of provisioning ID if I decide to us

    - by Jann
    This is a question that has been bugging me for a while. I started my app (now submitted -- not yet approved) not wishing to get into the mess that is APNS (Push). I did the following: iPhone Developer Center: Provisioning Portal-Provisioning: Then I created a Development and a Distribution Provisioning Profile. I installed both in XCode. Everything hunky dory. The Development profile scares me a bit by expiring so soon (90 days) but I can remove it from the iPhone(s) and sign it with a new one later. I tested using the Development profile, and later to submitted it by signing it with the Distribution profile. I then uploaded the Distribution profile-signed app to iTunesConnect (app store). Okay, I understand that much. Now, what I don't understand is this: Now that I understand the theories and methods behind how Push works, I am wishing to add it to my app. I already went under: iPhone Developer Center: Provisioning Portal-App IDs: and created a Development Provisioning Profile and Distribution Provisioning Profile there (push & in-app purchase enabled). Here is where it gets confusing to me. All the books and docs I have read say that I have to sign the app with this "App ID" provisioning profile (push-enabled) from now on. Does that mean I no longer ever use the previously created provisioning profiles? If I were to import these "App ID" provisioning profiles into Xcode they will exist alongside my previously generated "non-push" profiles. ~/Library/Mobile Devices/Provisioning Profiles now has 2 files. One Devel and one Distrib. It will now have 4 even though for this app I will not use the "non-push" anymore right? (actually, since they are locked by using bundle-codes and app ids i will never use it again if all of my further versions of this app use Push?) Confused. Can anyone enlighten me? Why not use the "App ID" profiles in the first place for everyone -- even if you are not gonna use push? Would keep it simpler. Should I only generate "Push Enabled" profiles from now on -- even if i am not sure I am gonna use push (or for that matter in-app purchase)? Please give me some insight. I do not wanna do this wrong. Thanks! Jann

  • WPF ComboBox Binding to non string object

    - by Mike L
    I'm using MVVM (MVVM Light Toolkit) and have a property on the view model which exposes a list of objects. The objects contain two properties, both strings, which correlate to an abbreviation and a description. I want the ComboBox to expose the pairing as "abbreviation - description". If I use a data template, it does this easily. I have another property on the view model which represents the object that should display as selected -- the chosen item in the ComboBox. I'm binding the ItemsSource to the list, as it represents the universe of available selections, and am trying to bind the SelectedItem to this object. I'm killing myself trying to figure out why I can't get it to work, and feeling more like a fraud by the hour. In trying to learn why this works, I created the same approach with just a list of strings, and a selected string. This works perfectly. So, it clearly has something to do with the typing... perhaps something in choosing equality? Or perhaps it has to do with the data template? Here is the XAML: <Window x:Class="MvvmLight1.MainWindow" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" Title="MainWindow" Height="300" Width="300" DataContext="{Binding Main, Source={StaticResource Locator}}"> <Window.Resources> <ResourceDictionary> <ResourceDictionary.MergedDictionaries> <ResourceDictionary Source="Skins/MainSkin.xaml" /> </ResourceDictionary.MergedDictionaries> <DataTemplate x:Key="DataTemplate1"> <StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal"> <TextBlock TextWrapping="Wrap" Text="{Binding CourtCode}"/> <TextBlock TextWrapping="Wrap" Text=" - "/> <TextBlock TextWrapping="Wrap" Text="{Binding CourtDescription}"/> </StackPanel> </DataTemplate> </ResourceDictionary> </Window.Resources> <Grid x:Name="LayoutRoot"> <ComboBox x:Name="cmbAbbrevDescriptions" Height="35" Margin="25,75,25,25" VerticalAlignment="Top" ItemsSource="{Binding Codes}" ItemTemplate="{DynamicResource DataTemplate1}" SelectedItem="{Binding selectedCode}" /> <ComboBox x:Name="cmbStrings" Height="35" Margin="25" VerticalAlignment="Top" ItemsSource="{Binding strs}" SelectedItem="{Binding selectedStr}"/> </Grid> </Window> And, if helpful, here is the ViewModel: using GalaSoft.MvvmLight; using MvvmLight1.Model; using System.Collections.Generic; namespace MvvmLight1.ViewModel { public class MainViewModel : ViewModelBase { public const string CodesPropertyName = "Codes"; private List<Court> _codes = null; public List<Court> Codes { get { return _codes; } set { if (_codes == value) { return; } var oldValue = _codes; _codes = value; // Update bindings and broadcast change using GalaSoft.Utility.Messenging RaisePropertyChanged(CodesPropertyName, oldValue, value, true); } } public const string selectedCodePropertyName = "selectedCode"; private Court _selectedCode = null; public Court selectedCode { get { return _selectedCode; } set { if (_selectedCode == value) { return; } var oldValue = _selectedCode; _selectedCode = value; // Update bindings and broadcast change using GalaSoft.Utility.Messenging RaisePropertyChanged(selectedCodePropertyName, oldValue, value, true); } } public const string strsPropertyName = "strs"; private List<string> _strs = null; public List<string> strs { get { return _strs; } set { if (_strs == value) { return; } var oldValue = _strs; _strs = value; // Update bindings and broadcast change using GalaSoft.Utility.Messenging RaisePropertyChanged(strsPropertyName, oldValue, value, true); } } public const string selectedStrPropertyName = "selectedStr"; private string _selectedStr = ""; public string selectedStr { get { return _selectedStr; } set { if (_selectedStr == value) { return; } var oldValue = _selectedStr; _selectedStr = value; // Update bindings and broadcast change using GalaSoft.Utility.Messenging RaisePropertyChanged(selectedStrPropertyName, oldValue, value, true); } } /// <summary> /// Initializes a new instance of the MainViewModel class. /// </summary> public MainViewModel() { Codes = new List<Court>(); Court code1 = new Court(); code1.CourtCode = "ABC"; code1.CourtDescription = "A Court"; Court code2 = new Court(); code2.CourtCode = "DEF"; code2.CourtDescription = "Second Court"; Codes.Add(code1); Codes.Add(code2); Court code3 = new Court(); code3.CourtCode = "DEF"; code3.CourtDescription = "Second Court"; selectedCode = code3; selectedStr = "Hello"; strs = new List<string>(); strs.Add("Goodbye"); strs.Add("Hello"); strs.Add("Ciao"); } } } And here is the ridiculously trivial class that is being exposed: using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Text; namespace MvvmLight1.Model { public class Court { public string CourtCode { get; set; } public string CourtDescription { get; set; } } } Thanks!

  • how to parse a Date string to java.Date

    - by hguser
    Hi: I have a date string and I wang to parse it to normal date use the java Date API,the following is my code: public static void main(String[] args) { String date="2010-10-02T12:23:23Z"; String pattern="yyyy-MM-ddThh:mm:ssZ"; SimpleDateFormat sdf=new SimpleDateFormat(pattern); try { Date d=sdf.parse(date); System.out.println(d.getYear()); } catch (ParseException e) { // TODO Auto-generated catch block e.printStackTrace(); } } However I got a exception:java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Illegal pattern character 'T' So I wonder if i have to split the string and parse it manually? BTW, I have tried to add a single quote character on either side of the T: String pattern="yyyy-MM-dd'T'hh:mm:ssZ"; It also does not work.

  • Session Id in url and/or cookie? [closed]

    - by Jacco
    Most people advice against rewriting every (internal) url to include the sessionId (both GET and POST). The standard argument against it seems to be:   If an attacker gets hold of the sessionId, they can hijack the session.   With the sessionId in the url, it easily leaks to the attacker (by referer etc.) But what if you put the sessionId in both an (encrypted) cookie and the url. if the sessionId in either the cookie or the url is missing or if they do not match, decline the request. Let's pretend the website in question is free of xss holes, the cookie encryption is strong enough, etc. etc. Then what is the increased risk of rewriting every url to include the sessionId? UPDATE: @Casper That is a very good point. so up to now there are 2 reasons: bad for search engines / SEO if used in public part of the website can cause trouble when users post an url with a session Id on a forum, send it trough email or bookmark the page apart from the:   It increases the security risk, but it is not clear what the increased risk is. some background info: I've a website that offers blog-like service to travellers. I cannot be sure cookies work nor can I require cookies to work. Most computers in internet cafes are old and not (even close to) up-to-date. The user has no control over them and the connection can be very unreliable for some more 'off the beaten path' locations. Binding the session to an IP-address is not possible, some places use load-balancing proxies with multiple IP addresses. (and from China there is The Great Firewall). Upon receiving the first cookie back, I flag cookies as mandatory. However, if the cookie was flagged as mandatory but not there, I ask for their password once more, knowing their session from the url. (Also cookies have a 1 time token in them, but that's not the point of this question). UPDATE 2: The conclusion seems to be that there are no extra *security* issues when you expose you session id trough the URL while also keeping a copy of the session id in an encrypted cookie. Do not hesitate to add additional information about any possible security implications

  • Comparing strings with user-created string class

    - by meepz
    Basically, I created my own string class, mystring.h and mystring.c. What I want to do is write a function that compares two "strings" and then returns 1 first word is larger than the second, the opposite if word 2 is larger than word 1, and 0 if the two words are equal. What I have so far is this: int compareto(void * S1, void * S2){ String s1 = (String S1); String s2 = (String S2); int i, cs1 = 0, cs2 = 0; //cs1 is count of s1, cs2 is count of s2 while(s1->c[i] != '\0'){ //basically, while there is a word if(s1->c[i] < s2->c[i]) // if string 1 char is less than string 2 char cs2++; //add to string 2 count else (s1->c[i] > s2->c[i]) //vice versa cs1++; i++; } for my return I basically have if(cs1>cs2){ return 1; } else if(cs2 > cs1){ return 2; } return 0; here is mystring.h typedef struct mystring { char * c; int length; int (*sLength)(void * s); char (*charAt)(void * s, int i); int (*compareTo)(void * s1, void * s2); struct mystring * (*concat)(void * s1, void * s2); struct mystring * (*subString)(void * s, int begin, int end); void (*printS)(void * s); } string_t; typedef string_t * String; This does what I want, but only for unspecified order. What I want to do is search through my linked list for the last name. Ex. I have two entries in my linked list, smith and jones; Jones will be output as greater than smith, but alphabetically it isnt. (I'm using this to remove student entries from a generic link list I created) Any suggestions, all of my google searches involve using the library, so I've had no luck)

  • Android - Launch Intent within ExpandableListView

    - by Ryan
    Hello, I'm trying to figure out if it is possible to launch an intent within an ExpandableListView. Basically one of the "Groups" is Phone Number and it's child is the number. I want the user to be able to click it and have it automatically call that number. Is this possible? How? Here is my code to populate the ExpandableListView using a Map called "data". ExpandableListView myList = (ExpandableListView) findViewById(R.id.myList); //ExpandableListAdapter adapter = new MyExpandableListAdapter(data); List<Map<String, String>> groupData = new ArrayList<Map<String, String>>(); List<List<Map<String, String>>> childData = new ArrayList<List<Map<String, String>>>(); Iterator it = data.entrySet().iterator(); while (it.hasNext()) { //Get the key name and value for it Map.Entry pair = (Map.Entry)it.next(); String keyName = (String) pair.getKey(); String value = pair.getValue().toString(); //Add the parents -- aka main categories Map<String, String> curGroupMap = new HashMap<String, String>(); groupData.add(curGroupMap); curGroupMap.put("NAME", keyName); //Add the child data List<Map<String, String>> children = new ArrayList<Map<String, String>>(); Map<String, String> curChildMap = new HashMap<String, String>(); children.add(curChildMap); curChildMap.put("NAME", value); childData.add(children); } // Set up our adapter mAdapter = new SimpleExpandableListAdapter( mContext, groupData, R.layout.exp_list_parent, new String[] { "NAME", "IS_EVEN" }, new int[] { R.id.rowText1, R.id.rowText2 }, childData, R.layout.exp_list_child, new String[] { "NAME", "IS_EVEN" }, new int[] { R.id.rowText3, R.id.rowText4} ); myList.setAdapter(mAdapter);

  • Reuse another ASP.NET session (set Session ID)

    - by queen3
    My problem is that when I open web application from Outlook in a separate IE window, the ASP.NET session is lost. This is (as described in several places) because in-memory cookie is lost. So it goes like this: User works with ASP.NET web application in Outlook, and this stores some info in ASP.NET session User clicks Print to open new IE window with print-ready data The new window has different ASP.NET session ID and can't access old data. I think, maybe, if I pass ASP.NET session ID to new IE window, I can somehow "attach" to that session? Tell ASP.NET that this is the one that I need to be current?
