• Fast way to perform addition of 2 LARGE float arrays in Android. Optional JNI or Opengl ES

  I simply need to add floatArray1 to floatArray2 storing the result in floatArray2.. no third array.. all arrays are one dimensional but are very large... probibly as large as the os will let me get away with. Max i would need is two float arrays with 40,000 floats each... but i could get away with 1/10th that i suppose minimum. Would love to do this in 1/30th or 1/60th of a second but that does not seem possible? Also if the code is JNI,NDK or OpenGL ES thats fine.. does android have an assembly language or like machine code i could use somehow?

Now that we met our deadline, we're going back and trying to optimize things. My questions is this: What are some of the most important things you look for when optimizing jQuery web sites. Alternately I'd love to hear of sites/lists that have particularly good advise for optimizing jQuery.   I am trying to work out the hits per hour from a database. Data basically is stored as follows (with other columns) : Table Name: Hits ============================ VisitorIP TIMESTAMP ---------------------------- 15.215.65.65 123456789 I want to display total hits per hour (within the last 6 hours ) including the hours that has no hits. Example of the output: // Assuming now : 21:00 21:00 - 0 hits 20:00 - 1 hits 19:00 - 4 hits 18:00 - 0 hits 17:00 - 2 hits 16:00 - 3 hits i would love to get the data as array, Please note that the stored date is in UNIX time stamp format. and there may be some hours without any hits! I'm working in some HTML docs that have single quotes around all attribute values through the docs, like this: <div class='classone classtwo'> I'd love to be able to do a find-and-replace in each doc and replace with double quotes, like this: <div class="classone classtwo"> Many elements in the document will have multiple attributes: <div class='classone classtwo' data-scripts='lazyload'> And some will have the correct double quotes: <div class='classone classtwo' data-scripts="lazyload"> What's the best way to replace all single quotes wrapping values with double?

• What is the "task" in twitter Storm parallelism

  I'm trying to learn twitter storm by following the great article "Understanding the parallelism of a Storm topology" However I'm a bit confused by the concept of "task". Is a task an running instance of the component(spout or bolt) ? A executor having multiple tasks actually is saying the same component is executed for multiple times by the executor, am I correct ? Moreover in a general parallelism sense, Storm will spawn a dedicated thread(executor) for a spout or bolt, but what is contributed to the parallelism by an executor(thread) having multiple tasks ? I think having multiple tasks in a thread, since a thread executes sequentially, only make the thread a kind of "cached" resource, which avoids spawning new thread for next task run. Am I correct? I may clear those confusion by myself after taking more time to investigate, but you know, we both love stackoverflow ;-) Thanks in advance.

• Linux based MS Office thumbnail generation

  I've been taken on board to work on a PHP based web application. One part of the application generates thumbnail images for MS Office documents on demand, and it uses MS Office + the VeryPDF docprint utility to do this. Because of this one requirement, the system is running on Windows Server 2003 + IIS. I would prefer to have the system running on a Linux server, rather than MS, as I have far more experience in administering Linux systems than Windows and we have no other in-house technical staff. Does anyone know a way to handle the document conversion using native Linux software? I would love something PHP native, but am willing to look outside that if necessary.   In PHP, I need to be able to figure out if a string contains a URL. If there is a URL, I need to isolate it as another separate string. For example: "SESAC showin the Love! http://twitpic.com/1uk7fi" I need to be able to isolate the URL in that string into a new string. At the same time the URL needs to be kept intact in the original string. Follow? I know this is probably really simple but it's killing me.

• Handling user security scope with nHibernate or other ORM

  How should one handle the situation where you may need to filter by a group of users. Here is the scenario. I have an administrator role in my company. I should be able to see all the data belonging to me plus all the other users who I have control over. A plain old user however should only be able to access their own data. If you are writing regular sql statements then you can have a security table with every user and who they have access too but i'm not sure how to handle this situation in the OO and ORM world. Any one dealt with this scenario in a web application using an ORM? Would love to hear your thoughts!

• Drawing Sprites for iOS games on iPad

  So, I'm quite new and confused on the way to tackle creating sprites/sprite sheets for iOS games. I own the full CS5 sweet and have been told that fireworks is the best way to go for creating these (although I don't have the slightest idea in how yet and would love some tutorials/books specifying sprite sheet creation). My thoughts directed me towards tablet drawing, as I am awful at drawing with a mouse and/or tablet without a screen on it (such as a basic wacom). I was thinking about getting an iPad, as this would provide me with an iPad for testing purposes and a tablet. Does anyone know if it's possible (or even a good idea) to draw out your sprites on the iPad. Is it possible to export them out into Fireworks and such?

• I want to use VI-like commands in Web Browser?

  I love VI and I'm looking for a plugin of some sort that would allow me to input text in my browser (preferably Firefox or Chrome) using VI commands. It would save me an immense amount of time and at the same time when writing long emails. Can anyone think of any plugins that would allow me to do this? I was hopeful with Vimperator (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/4891) but after installing it, I realized that it didn't do the one VI think I wanted to do: create or edit a text box with VI commands. It just allowed me to do Browser commands and scrolling in VI-style.

Writing applications in this language and then translating it into PHP, like some languages target C as an intermediate language? The Scheme implementation Chicken compiles into C. XOTcl converts Java code into Tcl code LINJ was(?) a tool to convert Lisp into nice looking Java code … + a lot of ways to produce JavaScript without touching JavaScript.

• How do you parse text in Ruby on Rails and add classes to specific parts of it?

  I am a Rails novice and I'm creating an application that I'd love some help on. The app is for social reading. It enables a user to highlight a passage from a text then have that passage saved and bolded into the view for later reading by anyone else. I have no problem creating an if statement on whether a certain string of text is in a passage but how do I add a class to that string and have a group of these passages absorbed back into the view. Any strategic advice would be greatly appreciated.

• preserving history when using mercurial ontop of clearcase

  I work in a ClearCase shop and CC does a good job of integrating the team's work though our code review process prevents me from using it to track my daily changes. Creating an hg repository on top of my CC view works really well. I can track my changes and easily make backups on the file server, produce diffs for people etc. This is all well and good until I move to a new CC view and have to leave my history behind. I would love to be able to ?pull? my previous history in and have everything that's different in the new view show up as the latest change set.

• Executing a jquery effect on demand. Is it possible?

  I was looking the Highlight effect of Jquery's. That effect is really the one i would like to add in my webpage. By looking at the the source code, i noticed that the effect will be reproduced on user's click of the div. $("div").click(function () { $(this).effect("highlight", {}, 3000); }); In my webpage i have an ImageButton <asp:ImageButton ID="btnFavorite" runat="server" ImageUrl="~/Images/Favorite.png"/> I would love to perform the highlight effect to the div, when the user clicks on the image button. Is it possible? UPDATE: If it is possible, could i use something like "OnClientClick=" of the ImageButton, since the imagebutton controls are added dynamically to the webpage?

• Passing HttpFileCollectionBase to the Business Layer - Bad?

  hopefully there's an easy solution to this one. I have my MVC2 project which allows uploads of files on certain forms. I'm trying to keep my controllers lean, and handle the processing within the business layer of this sort of thing. That said, HttpFileCollectionBase is obviously in the System.Web assembly. Ideally I want to call to something like: UserService.SaveEvidenceFiles(MyUser user, HttpFileCollectionBase files); or something similar and have my business layer handle the logic of how and where these things are saved. But, it feels a little icky to have my models layer with a reference to System.Web in terms of separation of concerns etc. So, we have (that I'm aware of) a few options: the web project handling this, and my controllers getting fatter mapping the HttpFileCollectionBase to something my business layer likes passing the collection through, and accepting that I reference System.Web from my business project Would love some feedback here on best practice approaches to this sort of thing - even if not specifically within the context of the above.

I have checked out the code in MSDN and found an example in which the System.ServiceProcess.ServiceBase class is sub-classed. I did the following. created a new C# console application copied the code from the MSDN example Run I get the following error The type or namespace name 'ServiceProcess' does not exist in the namespace 'System'(are you missing an assembly reference?) As i had copied the example from MSDN, i have no idea why the code still does not work. This is my first experience writing services and i`d love some guidance. thnkx!

• Anyone run recurring payments in their website? Preferably; Paypal API

  I'm wrapping up my startup and will need to implement Paypal API into my sign up page. Does anyone use recurring payments via Paypal API integrated into their billing? Better yet, guide me to a trustable developer with experience or will I have to use Elance? I need it to go to a welcome/get started screen in their logged in account once they hit the 'create account' button after filling out billing info. I was also wondering, can you leave the CSC (3 digit security code) field out with integration, because it makes things very hard for recurring payments. I'd like to stick with Paypal, as I have been very satisfied with them for a few years now; I already checked out Chargify, authorize.net, etc. I'd love to see someone with something like this set up already to take a look at and ask a few questions.

• Vim: multi-file editing - having different makes in different splits

  I'm a recent vim convert (from fancy IDEs like eclipse.) I love the :make command in vim and use it extensively; however I also like to edit multiple projects (with separate makefiles.) So usually to edit more than one project I will do pushd project1 vim project1.cpp [suspend signal] pushd ../project2 vim project2.cpp and now I can switch between the two projects with ctrl+z i.e. suspend signal, and fg. When this becomes an issue is when I want to open one project in the context of another so I can do copy/pasting. So if instead in the above I do pushd project1 vim project1.cpp :vsp ../project2/project2.cpp I can edit both concurrently in the same vim process, however I can't effectively build one or the other with the :make command, it will only build project 1. Does anyone have some kind of scheme that gives them the best of both worlds: being able to edit concurrently while still being able to build multiple projects with the :make command all from the same vim process?

I am creating a table which will store weekly shift hours for employees. for example: Jon works 9:00am tp 9:00pm Monday , 10:00 AM to 5:00PM on Tuseday etc.... How should i go on designing this table. I thought of 2 options. (1) For every record I can have two lines for AM and PM and have columns for Monday to Sunday ID | ParentID | Type | Monday | Tuseday ......Sunday 1 | 1 | AM | 9:00 | 9:00 12:00 2 | 1 | PM | 9:00 | 5:00 02:00 3 | 2 | AM | 10:00 | 4 | 2 | PM | 10:00 | (2) I can save Preference in XML format in one column ID | Info 1 | |Hours|Monday|9:00 AM - 9:00PM|Monday|Tuseday........|Hours Any better ideas ? I have quite a bit of experience with RoR, but don't have that many starting from scratch with only a vision experiences and would appreciate the wisdom of others who've been there. I'm looking for an order of events, reasons for the order, and maybe why each part is important. I can think of a few starting points, but I'm not sure where it's best to begin Model design and relationships (entities, how they relate, and their attributes) Think of user use-cases (or story-boards) and implement the minimum to get these done Create Model unit-tests then create the necessary migrations and AR models to get the tests to pass Hack out the most basic version of the simplest part of your application and go from there Start with a template for a rails app (like http://github.com/thoughtbot/suspenders) Do the boring gruntwork first (User auth, session management, ...) ...

• Huh? Android Preferences page refuses to load after adding SDK 1.6

  This one is really weird. I had a perfectly working Eclipse + Android 2.2 SDK working in both Administrator account and LUA (Limited User Account) under Windows XP. Then I decided to add the Android 1.6 SDK (I could do it from an Administrator account only). It seemed to have gone well, since it still works perfectly -- but only in that Administrator account! When I try to start Eclipse under a LUA, I receive the following error message box: Which disappears within 2-3 seconds and replaced with: I then tried to check the Preferences page, but again, all I receive is error messages: and: Any idea why this is happening and how to fix this? (I would love to be able to continue working from a LUA)

• Subtracting Delphi Time Ranges from a Date Range, Calculate Remaining Time

  I'm looking for an algorithm that will help calculate a workday working time length. It would have an input date range and then allow subtracting partially or completely intersecting time range slices from that date range and the result would be the number of minutes (or the fraction/multiple of a day) left in the original date range, after subtracting out the various non-working time slices. For Example: Input date range: 1/4/2010 11:21 am - 1/5/2010 3:00 pm Subtract out any partially or completely intersecting slices like this: Remove all day Sunday Non-Sundays remove 11:00 - 12:00 Non-Sundays remove time after 5:00 pm Non-Sundays remove time before 8:00 am Non-Sundays remove time 9:15 - 9:30 am Output: # of minutes left in the input date range I don't need anything overly-general. I could hardcode the rules to simplify the code. If anyone knows of sample code or a library/function somewhere, or has some pseudo-code ideas, I'd love something to start with. I didn't see anything in DateUtils, for example. Even a basic function that calculates the number of minutes of overlap in two date ranges to subtract out would be a good start.
