  • What do I need to distribute (keys, certs) for Python w/ SSL-socket connection?

    - by fandingo
I'm trying to write a generic server-client application that will be able to exchange data amongst servers. I've read over quite a few OpenSSL documents, and I have successfully setup my own CA and created a cert (and private key) for testing purposes. I'm stuck with Python 2.3, so I can't use the standard "ssl" library. Instead, I'm stuck with PyOpenSSL, which doesn't seem bad, but there aren't many documents out there about it. My question isn't really about getting it working. I'm more confused about the certificates and where they need to go. Here are my two programs that do work: Server: #!/bin/env python from OpenSSL import SSL import socket import pickle def verify_cb(conn, cert, errnum, depth, ok): print('Got cert: %s' % cert.get_subject()) return ok ctx = SSL.Context(SSL.TLSv1_METHOD) ctx.set_verify(SSL.VERIFY_PEER|SSL.VERIFY_FAIL_IF_NO_PEER_CERT, verify_cb) # ?????? ctx.use_privatekey_file('./Dmgr-key.pem') ctx.use_certificate_file('Dmgr-cert.pem') # ?????? ctx.load_verify_locations('./CAcert.pem') server = SSL.Connection(ctx, socket.socket(socket.AF_INET, socket.SOCK_STREAM)) server.bind(('', 50000)) server.listen(3) a, b = server.accept() c = a.recv(1024) print(c) Client: from OpenSSL import SSL import socket import pickle def verify_cb(conn, cert, errnum, depth, ok): print('Got cert: %s' % cert.get_subject()) return ok ctx = SSL.Context(SSL.TLSv1_METHOD) ctx.set_verify(SSL.VERIFY_PEER, verify_cb) # ?????????? ctx.use_privatekey_file('/home/justin/code/work/CA/private/Dmgr-key.pem') ctx.use_certificate_file('/home/justin/code/work/CA/Dmgr-cert.pem') # ????????? ctx.load_verify_locations('/home/justin/code/work/CA/CAcert.pem') sock = SSL.Connection(ctx, socket.socket(socket.AF_INET, socket.SOCK_STREAM)) sock.connect(('10.0.0.3', 50000)) a = Tester(2, 2) b = pickle.dumps(a) sock.send("Hello, world") sock.flush() sock.send(b) sock.shutdown() sock.close() I found this information from ftp://ftp.pbone.net/mirror/ftp.pld-linux.org/dists/2.0/PLD/i586/PLD/RPMS/python-pyOpenSSL-examples-0.6-2.i586.rpm which contains some example scripts. As you might gather, I don't fully understand the sections between the " # ????????." I don't get why the certificate and private key are needed on both the client and server. I'm not sure where each should go, but shouldn't I only need to distribute one part of the key (probably the public part)? It undermines the purpose of having asymmetric keys if you still need both on each server, right? I tried alternating removing either the pkey or cert on either box, and I get the following error no matter which I remove: OpenSSL.SSL.Error: [('SSL routines', 'SSL3_READ_BYTES', 'sslv3 alert handshake failure'), ('SSL routines', 'SSL3_WRITE_BYTES', 'ssl handshake failure')] Could someone explain if this is the expected behavior for SSL. Do I really need to distribute the private key and public cert to all my clients? I'm trying to avoid any huge security problems, and leaking private keys would tend to be a big one... Thanks for the help!

  • How do you check the presence of many keys in a Python dictinary?

    - by Thierry Lam
I have the following dictionary: sites = { 'stackoverflow': 1, 'superuser': 2, 'meta': 3, 'serverfault': 4, 'mathoverflow': 5 } To check if there are more than one key available in the above dictionary, I will do something like: 'stackoverflow' in sites and 'serverfault' in sites The above is maintainable with only 2 key lookups. Is there a better way to handle checking a large number of keys in a very big dictionary?

  • Clojure: I have many sorted maps and want to reduce in order all there values a super maps of keys -> vector

    - by Alex Foreman
I have seen this but can't work out how to apply it (no pun intended) to my situation. I have a sorted list of maps like this: (note there can be more than two keys in the map) ({name1 3, name2 7}, {name1 35, name2 7}, {name1 0, name2 3}) What I am after is this data structure afterwards: ({:name1 [3,35,0]}, {:name2 [7,7,3]}) Ive been struggling with this for a while and cant seem to get anywhere near. Caveats: The data must stay sorted and I have N keywords not just two.

  • Network bandwidth bottleneck for sorting of mapreduce intermediate keys?

    - by Zubair
I have been learning the mapreduce algorithm and how it can potentially scale to millions of machines, but I don't understand how the sorting of the intermediate keys after the map phase can scale, as there will be: 1,000,000 x 1,000,000 : potential machines communicating small key / value pairs of the intermediate results with each other? Isn't this a bottleneck?

  • Mounting ddrescue image after recovery (in over my head)

    - by BorgDomination
I'm having problems mounting the recovery image. I've tried to mount the image multiple ways. quark@DS9 ~ $ sudo mount -t ext4 /media/jump1/1recover/sdb1.img /mnt mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/loop0, missing codepage or helper program, or other error In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try dmesg | tail or so quark@DS9 ~ $ sudo mount -r -o loop /media/jump1/1recover/sdb1.img recover mount: you must specify the filesystem type quark@DS9 ~ $ sudo mount /media/jump1/1recover/sdb1.img mnt mount: you must specify the filesystem type It doesn't even give me detailed information on the file I just made, nautilus says it's 160gb. quark@DS9 ~ $ file /media/jump1/1recover/sdb1.img /media/jump1/1recover/sdb1.img: data quark@DS9 ~ $ mmls /media/jump1/1recover/sdb1.img Cannot determine partition type I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong or if I started this process incorrectly from the beginning. I've outlined what I've done so far below. I'm clueless, I'd appreciate if someone had some input for me. What I have done from the beginning My laptop has two hard drives. One has the dual boot Win7 / Linux Mint system files. Secondary one contained my /home folder. The laptop was jarred and the /home disk was broken. I tried a LiveCD recovery, it failed. Wouldn't even load a Live session with the disk installed. So I turned to ddrescue. quark@DS9 ~ $ sudo fdisk -l Disk /dev/sda: 160.0 GB, 160041885696 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 19457 cylinders, total 312581808 sectors Units = sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes Disk identifier: 0x0009fc18 Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sda1 * 2048 112642047 56320000 7 HPFS/NTFS/exFAT /dev/sda2 138033152 312580095 87273472 83 Linux /dev/sda3 112644094 138033151 12694529 5 Extended /dev/sda5 112644096 132173823 9764864 83 Linux /dev/sda6 132175872 138033151 2928640 82 Linux swap / Solaris Partition table entries are not in disk order Disk /dev/sdb: 160.0 GB, 160041885696 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 19457 cylinders, total 312581808 sectors Units = sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes Disk identifier: 0x0002a8ea Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sdb1 * 63 312576704 156288321 83 Linux Disk /dev/sdc: 1000.2 GB, 1000204886016 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 121601 cylinders, total 1953525168 sectors Units = sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes Disk identifier: 0xed6d054b Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sdc1 63 1953520064 976760001 7 HPFS/NTFS/exFAT sda - 160g internal, holds all system files and all computer functions. sdb - 160g internal, BROKEN, contains about 140g of data I'd like to recover. sdc - 1T external, contains recovery image. • Entity Framework: insert with one-to-one reference

    - by bomortensen
Hi 'overflow! I'm having a bit trouble inserting into a mssql database using Entity Framework. There's two tables that I want to insert into, where one of table 1s fields is a foreign key in table2. This is the code I have so far: Media media = null; foreach(POI p in poiList) { media = new Media() { Path = p.ImagePath, Title = p.Title }; if (media != null && !context.Media.Any(me => me.Title == p.ImageTitle)) { context.AddToMedia(media); context.SaveChanges(); } PointOfInterest poi = new PointOfInterest() { Altitude = 2000.0, ID = p.ID, Latitude = p.Latitude, Longitude = p.Longitude, LatitudeRoute = p.LatitudeRoute, LongitudeRoute = p.LongitudeRoute, Description = p.Description, Title = p.Title, DefaultImageID = media.ID, }; context.AddToPointOfInterest(poi); } context.SaveChanges(); The following gives me this error: An object with the same key already exists in the ObjectStateManagerAn object with the same key already exists in the ObjectStateManager I'm still learning how to use the entity framework, so I don't even know if this would be the right approach to insert into two referenced tables. Can anyone enlighten me on this? :) Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

  • Create a simple automatic image switcher using jQuery

    - by Kim Andersen
    Hi all. I need to create a very simple image switcher that changes my images automatically. I have the following code: <div class="imgCarousel"> <div class="imgC1 left"><img src="/media/1614/1_1.jpg" alt="img1" /></div> <div class="imgC2 left"><img src="/media/1615/2_1.jpg" alt="img2" /></div> <div class="imgC3 left"><img src="/media/1616/3_1.gif" alt="img3" /></div> <div class="imgC4 left"><img src="/media/1617/4_1.jpg" alt="img4" /></div> <div class="imgC5 left"><img src="/media/1618/5_1.jpg" alt="img5a" /></div> <div class="imgC6 left"><img src="/media/1620/6_1.jpg" alt="img6a" /></div> <div class="imgC7 left"><img src="/media/1622/7.jpg" alt="img7" /></div> </div> Two of the above images should be switched automatically after a certain amount of time (every 3-4 sec.). This means that after 4 seconds, I'd like to change the image called /media/1618/5_1.jpg with another image. And after another 4 seconds, I'd switch back again. The same shold be made for one of my other images. How can I acomplish this with some jQuery?

  • What is the replacement of the floppy

    - by alexanderpas
While CD (and to an lesser extend DVD) disks have reached the price-point of the floppy, they have one significant downside, it is WORM (Write-Once Read-Many) media, allowing it to be used only one single time, and you need to be explicit in writing the data to the actual media (you need to burn it.) While CD-RW solves the "use only once" problem, it is still EWORM (Erasable Write-Once Read-Many) media, which still means you need to be explicit in writing the data to the actual media (you still need to burn it.), and also, you still need to be very explicit in erasing it. (simple delete is not possible.) Okay, we can use a CD-RW in Packet Writing mode, however the downside to that, is that this mode is not very universal, and also, not the native mode of the media. Now, while USB-sticks and SD-cards may not have the poblems of the CD, they have a whole other kind of problem: their PRICE! USB-sticks and SD cards are generally 10 to 100 times as expensive as diskettes per piece. SD-cards, in addition have an added problem, because they need a reader to operate. While it is a very standard thing, it is not default equipment on the computer like the CD drive or USB port (or historically the diskette drive). You wouldn't give out an USB stick or SD card with a 100 kB text file, not caring weither you would get it back or not. So, to recap: CD & DVD are basically WORM media. SD cards and USB sticks are relatively expensive. SD cards also needs special readers. Diskettes have a very low data-rate Diskettes have a very low storage capacity. Now, is there a media out there that solves all these problems, or is there a way to get (very) small USB sticks or SD cards for a very low price (as they're the closest thing to diskette).

  • Apache 2: Mod_Rewrite Help - If/else for directory exists

    - by BHare
This is my current and sloppy Apache 2 mod_rewrite. Keep in mine the part with site1 site2..etc has about 50 sites. RewriteEngine on RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^([^.]+)\.mainsite\.org$ RewriteCond /home/%1/ -d RewriteRule ^(.+) %{HTTP_HOST}$1 RewriteRule ^([^.]+)\.mainsite\.org/media/(.*) /home/$1/special/media/$2 RewriteRule ^([^.]+)\.mainsite\.org/(.*) /home/$1/www/$2 RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^mainsite\.org$ [NC] RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.mainsite.org$1 [R=302] RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} (site1|site2|site3|site4)\.(com|net|biz|org|us)$ [NC] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/media/ RewriteRule ^/(.*)$ /home/%1/www/$1 RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} (site1|site2|site3|site4)\.(com|biz|net|org|us)$ [NC] RewriteRule ^/media/(.*)$ /home/%1/special/media/$1 RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} favicon.ico$ RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /misc/favicon.ico So if someone tries to go to theirusername.mainsite.org it will check if /home/theirusername/ exists, and if it does use their www (/home/theirusername/www/) as the file location for web files. If they try they try to access theirusername.mainsite.org/media/ it will make a special file location to look for the file(s) at /home/theirusername/special/media/ I would like it if the username did NOT have /home/username that it would automatically default to www.mainsite.org. I am having a hard time understanding how to do skips and such. so: If someone went to notrealusername.mainsite.org/forum/ it would auto direct to www.mainsite.org/forum/ Extra: I am using repetitive code for other site for example lets say foobar has a website foobar.com, it goes through the same process as mainsite.org so figured maybe having something like: RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^([^.]+).(mainsite.org|com|net|biz|org)$ where I could have one major rule for all existing domains who have a /home/

  • Getting Started with Boxee

    - by DigitalGeekery
Boxee is a free Media PC application that runs on Windows, Mac, and Ubuntu Linux. With Boxee, you can integrate online video, music and pictures, with your own local media and social networking. Today we are going to take a closer look at Boxee and some of it’s features. Note: We used Windows 7 for this tutorial. Your experience on a Mac or Ubuntu Linux build may vary slightly. Hardware Requirements x86 (Intel/AMD processor) based system running at 1.0GHz or greater 512MB system memory (RAM) or more Video card capable of OpenGL 1.4, Direct X 9.0 Software Requirements Mac OS X 10.4+ (Intel based processor) Ubuntu Linux 9.04+ x86 only Windows XP / Vista / 7 (64 bit in Vista or 7) Installing Boxee Before downloading and installing Boxee, you’ll need to register for a free account. (See link below) Once your account is registered and verified, you’ll be able to log in and download the application. Installation is pretty straightforward…just take the defaults. Boxee will open in full screen mode and you’ll be prompted to login with your username and password. Before you login, you may want to take a moment to click on the “Guide” icon and learn a bit about navigating in Boxee. Some basic keyboard navigation is as follows. Move right, left, up, & down with the arrow keys. Hit “Enter” to make a selection, the forward slash key “\” to toggle between full screen and windowed mode, and “Esc” to go back to the previous screen. For Playback, the volume is controlled by plus & minus (+/-) keys, you can Play / Pause using the spacebar, and skip using the arrow keys. Boxee will also work with any infrared remote. If you have an iPhone or iPod Touch you can download software to enable them as a Boxee remote. If you’re using a mouse and keyboard, hover over the username and password boxes to enter your login credentials. If using a a remote, click your OK button and enter credentials with the on screen keyboard. Click “Done” when finished.   When you are ready to login, enter your credentials and click “Login.” On first login, you’ll be prompted to calibrate your screen. If you choose “Skip” you can always calibrate your screen later under Settings > Appearance > Screen. When Boxee opens, you’ll be greeted by the Home screen. To the left will be your Feeds. This will be any recommended content from friends on Boxee, and social networks such as Facebook and Twitter. Although, when you first login, it will mainly be info from the Boxee staff. You’ll have “Featured” content in the center and your Queue on the right. You’ll also have the Menu along the top.   Pop Up Menu The Pop Menu can be accessed by hitting the “Esc” key, or back on your remote. Depending on where you are located in Boxee, you may have to hit it a few time to “back out” to the Pop Up menu. From the Pop Up Menu, you can easily access any of the resources, settings, and favorites. Queue The Queue is your playlist of TV shows, movies, or Internet videos you wish to watch. When you find an offering you’d like to watch, select it and then click “Add to Queue.” The selected item will be added to your Queue and can be accessed at any time from the Menu. TV Show Library The TV Show library can contain files from your local hard drive or streaming content from the Web. Boxee pulls content from a variety of online locations such as Hulu and TV network sites. Click on the show to see which specific episodes are currently available. To search for your favorite shows, click on the yellow arrow to the left, or navigate to the left with your keyboard or remote. Enter your selection into the search box. My Apps By default, the “My Apps” section includes a list of the most popular apps, such as Netflix, Pandora, YouTube, and others. You can remove Apps from “My Apps,” or add new Apps from the Apps Library.   To access all the available Apps, click on the left arrow button, or click on the yellow arrow at the left, then select “App Library.” Choose an App from the Library and click it to open… … and then select “Add to My Apps.” Or, you can click start to play the App if you don’t wish to Add it to your “My Apps.”   Music, Pictures, and Movies Boxee will scan your PC for movies, pictures, and music.
