Attention Windows Mobile developers:
It has been confirmed by Microsoft Corp. that Windows Phone 7 devices will not run applications written for the Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system or earlier.
I think this is significant enough news that may need your planning for your software future releases re-thought.
The announcement was found here.
I read that LTS releases are based on Debian testing while normal releases are based on Debian unstable. Given the long release cycle of Debian, is it possible for some software to be of a more recent version in a normal release X than in LTS release X+1? If the answer is yes, would there be a difference between an upgrade and a fresh install (perhaps upgrade holds back more recent version automatically)?
I'm in the last year of my college and going to university next year. Could you tell me what the difference between Software Engineering and Computer Games Technology is?
I know a bit of both but don't know the actual difference. I'm kind off in a dilemma between these two. I want to be a programmer, I'd love to go into gaming but I heard getting a job within a computer games company is really hard.

Stop: "The project to deliver One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) for educational purpose in developing countries is doing great in Paraguay. According to developer Bernie Innocenti, this success comes from a way to manage the development of the Sugar educational software that other countries (or any other similar projects, see for example the Teachermate or the italian JumpPC) could and should imitate."
I was learning about how to estimate software development effort, and would like to know how successful enterprises estimate their projects. How they do to know how much time a system will spend to be developed? What are the modern techniques to do this? What are the techniques used by these modern enterprises?
Some articles and interviews of employees of those enterprises would be interesting.
I asked on Project Management site of StackExchange too.
As a software developer, I'm curious as to what tools, apps, templates, etc. other developers use for creating a resume. Such as LinkedIn, ceevee.com, github resume generator, etc.
I use some of the things I've mentioned but I don't really like the out-dated style of resume created by ceevee.com, but I'm also not much of a designer.
Anyone have any "nice" (as in design, ease of use) templates/apps/services you use?
Everyone is wired differently. Some people are artistic, some are leaders and some are highly technical. Most of the time, it is fairly difficult for these different types of people to communicate effectively and understand each others' limitations and strengths. This can be especially true if you find yourself working as a non-technical employee in a highly technical field such as software development.

Currently I wish to expand my professional skills with Bachelor degree. However, I am not able to study full time abroad, but looking for University where I could study in distance (online from home), coming just several times in a semester to the University to pass exams, complete papers and so on.
I am looking for Software Engineering or Computer Science programs. Fully in distance (online) in English in Europe, because I am living in Central Europe.
Any suggestions?
Linux Pro Magazine: ""People with disabilities deserve to have control of their own technological destinies." With this statement, the Free Software Foundation (FSF) announces that it is turning its attention to accessibility."
Hi All,
I will be graduating this May with a degree in Computer Science from a well regarded university located in the SF Bay Area. Unfortunately our career services center is terrible and the likely hood of finding a job through them is minimal. I was hoping someone might be able to offer some insight on resources / sites that have a fair amount of entry-level software engineering related jobs? Thanks in advance.

I am looking for an online training site that provides courses on software development topics.
Subjects that are needed for my work are .NET, general object oriented principles, design patterns, unit testing, continuous integration but not limited to these in particular.
I have tried to use Pluralsight which was nice, however i am not sure the style of videos only is sufficient (for my at least).
Are there any other training companies that provide online courses in other formats that you found useful (regarding .NET but not limited only to it).
Thanks

I am a lead developer in a larger software projects.
From time to time its getting hard to handle the complexity within this project. E. g.
Have the whole big picture in mind all the time
Keeping track of the teammates work results
Doing Code Reviews
Supply management with information
etc.
Are there best practices/ time management techniques to handle these tasks?
Are there any tools to support you having an overview?
