• Reduce Heroku Compiled Slug Size

  I've just updated rails to v2.3.6 on my app under a bamboo-ree-1.8.7 stack and the compiled slug size has grown up to 40.5Mb! Previous to that last git push, the slug size was about 20Mb and was using rails v2.3.5. Is it because my slug has both of rails versions installed? Probably I'm missing something but I haven't added any special code/files into my app as to increase the slug size by ~20Mb. Can you point me on how can I reduce the slug size? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much in advance.

• Weblogic server lib VS instance libext

  Hello, I use weblogic 10. Its provide an Oracle JDBC driver 10.2.0.2 (in the server/lib on weblogic home). Actually someone at work put a long time ago a 10.2.0.3 driver in instance libext folder. But in production we got a jdbc driver stack (nullpointer :O) and by reverse engineering it seems we are using driver 10.2.0.2. We know that we could change the driver in the server/lib of weblogic but i want to understand. Isn't libext supposed to override server libs like META-INF libs override libext? By the way we are in a strange situation: - We have 2 EAR, and for the exact same treatment in those 2, one will sometime throw the oracle driver nullpointer while the other doesn't - I wonder if one ear isn't using 10.2.0.2 while the other is using 10.2.0.3 (i saw a bug fixed that could fit to our problem for this version). - I need to look better but at first sight both ear use the exact same datasource set in weblogic JNDI resources Any idea?

• Is there a cap on the number of modules WinDbg can see?

  Does anyone know if there is a cap on the number of DLLs WinDbg can see ? I believe Visual Studio was once capped at 500 but I can't find a source for this claim outside of some second hand accounts at work. I'm trying to debug a hairy scenario and WinDbg's stack trace is incomplete. According to Process Explorer, the module I'm interested in is loaded but it doesn't show up in the output of 'lm' in WinDbg. Suspiciously, said output is exactly 500 modules long, even though I know there are many more than that loaded, leading me to believe WinDbg isn't seeing DLLs beyond the first 500. Can anyone confirm ? Or suggest some other reason why a loaded module might not show up in 'lm' ?

• Tag Cloud Data Backend

  I want to be able to generate tag clouds from free text that comes from any number of different sources. For clarity, I'm not talking about how to display a tag cloud once the critical tags/phrases are already discovered, I'm hoping to be able to discover the meaningful phrases themselves... preferable on a PHP/MySQL stack. If I had to do this myself, I'd start by establishing some kind of index for words/phrases that gives a "normal" frequency for any word/phrase. eg "Constantinople" occurs once in every 1,000,000 words on average (normal frequency "0.000001"). Then as I analyze a body of text, I'd find the individual words/phrases (another challenge!), find frequencies of each within the input, and measure against the expected freqeuncy. Words that have the highest ratio against expected frequency get boosted priority in the cloud. I'd like to believe someone else has already done this, WAY better than I could hope to, but I'll be damned if I can find it. Any recommendations??

• How do I set up a test duplicate of a Django and Postgresql based web application?

  Not sure if this is an excessively broad and newbie-ish question for Stack Overflow but here goes: I paid someone else to build a web application for me and now I want to tweak certain aspects of it myself. I learn best by trial and error – changing stuff and seeing what happens. Obviously that's not a great way to treat a live site, so I need to duplicate the site on some kind of test server which I can play with without fear of the consequences. Unfortunately the closest I've come to programming has been creating ActionScript-based websites. I've never touched a database. So I really don't know where to start with setting up a test server. I would really appreciate any advice about where to start. I am completely ignorant and lost here. The web application is built in python/django using a Postgresql database. I use Mac OS X 10.6 if that makes any difference.

• What's Your favorite f# use? where does f# makes life (a lot) easier (compared to c#)?

  I've skimmed the stack and did not get the overflow as there is probably no such question. I'm just learning f# and I am A seasoned c# and .net dev. I am into financial apps and currently F# helps me a lot with maths calcs like zero finding or minimum finding (although I still want some good maths library there). I see that processing multiple items (files or smth) tends to be easier, but my GUI (web, win) are still c# based. I am in the team of 5 devs and we know that the new tool is out, we are learning it after hours (to pimp ourselves up) but maybe we shouldn't bash the door somebody already opened. So in business apps, whats Your first killer part of soft You would code in F# (if You could and would know IT would be easier, faster, more testable, easier to maintain etc.? Business rules? ImageProcessing? Data processing? hope it's not to subjective. luke

• Hide TabControl buttons to manage multiple panels stacked

  I need to handle multiple panels, containing variuous data masks. Each panel shall be visible using a TreeView control. At this time, I handle the panels visibility manually, by making the selected one visible and bring it on top. Actually this is not much confortable, especially in the UI designer, since when I add a brand new panel I have to resize every panel and then design it... A good solution would be using a TabControl, and each panel is contained in a TabPage. But I cannot find any way to hide the TabControl buttons, since I already have a TreeView for selecting items. Another solution would be an ipotethic "StackPanelControl", where the Panels are arranged using a stack, but I couldn't find it anywhere. What's the best solution to handle this kind of UI?

  Hi all, I'm new to Stack Overflow, so forgive me. I've just started transititoning over to C# and I am stuck on a problem. I am wanting to pass a generic class in and call a method from that class. • Can C/C++ compiler report struct member offset

  Hello, everyone. I'd like to ask, can compiler(e.g. Visual C++) generate a report(.txt) telling struct member offset for a struct/all structs? If so, it helps debugging quite a lot. For example, when you read disassembler code in the debugger, it can be easier to associate an offset value to a struct member. Also, it is better to have compiler report offset of each local variable on a function stack frame(e.g. the offset relative to ebp on an X86 machine). Thank you in advance.

• zChaff not showing output

  Hello, So I downloaded the latest version of zChaff (2007), and was trying out some very simple SAT problems. But zChaff does not output the solution (variable assignments). A very simple example input: p cnf 2 2 1 2 0 1 -2 0 And what I get: c 2 Clauses are true, Verify Solution successful. Instance Satisfiable 1 -2 Random Seed Used 0 Max Decision Level 1 Num. of Decisions 2 ( Stack + Vsids + Shrinking Decisions ) 0 + 1 + 0 Original Num Variables 2 Original Num Clauses 2 Original Num Literals 4 Added Conflict Clauses 0 Num of Shrinkings 0 Deleted Conflict Clauses 0 Deleted Clauses 0 Added Conflict Literals 0 Deleted (Total) Literals 0 Number of Implication 2 Total Run Time 5.1e-05 RESULT: SAT I can see the 1 -2 on the left of "Random Seed Used", but shouldn't this be outputing the variable assignments as "v ..." ?   Recently I came across the SkipList data structure. It really helped me to solve one otherwise critical problem to be solved. I was struggling to solve the same problem with Balanced Binary tree but it became very complex as the tree needs to be always balanced and I wanted to know the existence of not only a particular value but values in certain range. SkipList helped me to solve that problem effectively. I am wondering what else data structures that I need to know? I know - Array, List, Stack, Queue, Linked List, hashtable, tree and its different forms like B-tree, Trie etc. Would like to know if you find some other data structure/concept very interesting to know yet effective enough to be used in a daily development cycle.

• How to reduce the number of cert validation requests... (IE is killing me slowly)

  On a customer's internal network, I can make a request to my SSL site using IE6 SP1 (on Win2K) and see one cert validation requests, but if I use IE6 SP2 (on XP) 13 separate cert validation requests get fired off. Needless to say, this slows down my page load a lot. Firefox loads the page just fine with no unnecessary cert validation requests. The server is Apache running a pretty new lampp stack. All the server certificate / CA chain configurations seem to be fine (users can authenticate w/ trusted certs, the system can communicate to other systems with that server cert, etc.) Is there anything I can do from a configuration standpoint? Any other ideas at all?

• Store previous search criteria using ASP.NET

  I have created a web application which returns a list of products. On this page it allows users to search for a range of different search criteria. Once a user searches and the results are returned to the table on the page a user can then edit a product. However upon returning to the product listing page the page just reloads, and shows all products again. I would like to know what the best way would be to keep the search results, and upon returning to the search page it keeps the previous criteria. I have found a few posts on stack exchange - Best way to store previous search criteria in ASP.NET - is probaly one of the better ones. Does any one know how i could go about keeping the search criteria, so when a user returns to the search page, the previous search criteria and results stay the same. Many thanks.

  I am working on rewriting my unexpected error handling process, and I would like to ask the community: What information do you capture both automatic, and manually, when software you have written crashes? Right now, I capture a few items, some of which are: Automatic: Name of app that crashed Version of app that crashed Stack trace Operating System version RAM used by the application Number of processors Screen shot: (Only on non-public applications) User name and contact information (from Active Directory) Manual: What context is the user in (i.e.: what company, tech support call number, RA number, etc...) When did the user expect to happen? (Typical response: "Not to crash”) Steps to reproduce. What other bits of information do you capture that helps you discover the true cause of an applications problem, especially given that most users simply mash the keyboard when asked to tell you what happened. For the record I’m using C#, WPF and .NET version 4, but I don’t necessarily want to limit myself to those. • How to make Visual C++ 9 not emit code that is actually never called?

  My native C++ COM component uses ATL. In DllRegisterServer() I call CComModule::RegisterServer(): STDAPI DllRegisterServer() { return _Module.RegisterServer(FALSE); // <<< notice FALSE here } FALSE is passed to indicate to not register the type library. ATL is available as sources, so I in fact compile the implementation of CComModule::RegisterServer(). Somewhere down the call stack there's an if statement: if( doRegisterTypeLibrary ) { //<< FALSE goes here // do some stuff, then call RegisterTypeLib() } The compiler sees all of the above code and so it can see that in fact the if condition is always false, yet when I inspect the linker progress messages I see that the reference to RegisterTypeLib() is still there, so the if statement is not eliminated. Can I make Visual C++ 9 perform better static analysis and actually see that some code is never called and not emit that code?

  I'm using the .net Crystal Reports viewer to display a report. This works properly, but when I click on the print option, and then click "OK" on the options popup, I get the following error: Access is denied.   To preface I am new to web development. I am looking at creating a core set of RESTful web services around a valuable document library of sorts (initial CRUD abilities). In doing so I am theoretically creating a perfectly re-usable and scalable back-end to be used by unanticipated applications in the future. My question centers around the best practice for doing this. My initial requirement has me also creating a unique front end. Would I make the front end and back end completely separate projects to enhance the re-usability. It would increase overhead. • .NET 2d library for circuit diagrams

  I want to draw and manipulate logic flow (as opposed to analog) circuit diagrams and I'm trying not to reinvent the wheel. Problems like positioning, line drawing, line crossing and connecting, path finding, rubberband lines, and drag & drop are also identical in flow charts, UML diagrams, or class diagrams so I started by viewing related topics via Google and Stack Overflow. However, the following requirements seemed to keep me from finding anything that quite fit: assuming a chip has an image with input and output stubs, the connecting lines would connect to the chip only in the exact spots of the I/O stubs the color of connecting lines are able to be set as per a chip's output Is there an existing .NET 2d graphics library that would be suitable for drawing circuit diagrams?
