    The situation is: I will implement sets of new system calls. Each of them need to access (read or write) a linked list. So, that means I will have several C programs. So, how can I maintain a linked list in memory and let several programs access it? Or,this is wrong....I should save it as a file? (but I hardly think this is a good idea)..     I have an include file with 100+ global variables. It's being used in a library, but some programs that I'm linking the lib to also need to access the globals. The way it was built: // In one library .c file #define Extern // In the programs that use the globals #define Extern extern // In the .h file Extern int a,b,c; I had a hard time understanding why the original programmer did that so I removed that define Extern stuff. Now I think I understand the thing about TU with the help of stackoverflow: 1, 2, 3. Now I understand that I should define the global variables in one .c file in the library and use extern in the .h file. The problem is that I don't want to duplicate code. Should I go back to that #define Extern voodoo?

    This is related to an earlier question by a different user How to detect that code is running inside eclipse IDE I noticed that eclipse always launches programs with javaw rather than java. (This does not imply a program launched with javaw was launched from eclipse). I can find the arguments passed using RuntimeMXBean RuntimemxBean = ManagementFactory.getRuntimeMXBean(); List<String> lst=RuntimemxBean.getInputArguments(); for(int i=0;i<lst.size();i++) System.out.println(lst.get(i)); But this does not tell me whether it was launched using java or javaw. Is there any way to find it out? Another related question is why does eclipse use javaw to launch programs?

    I'm using Aloha Editor and I'm able to save/edit content without any problem. Editor saves content in SQLite database (db.sqlite). I know where the file is and I see that's getting bigger while I'm adding more text to it. But when I transfer that fille using filezilla to local computer and I open in notepad I see only: ** This file contains an SQLite 2.1 database ** I've tried to use few programs but it always says that database that unable to open. The programs I've tried: Sqliteman-1.2.2 and sqlitebrowser_200_b1_win.

But I want using CMD start and stop the tomcat. And in any folder i write command startup.bat the server will start and when i write the server will stop...... Thanks in advace..........

    I'm building an application that will move around some potentially large files, but I want to do it without disturbing the user's network connection by flooding it. I know that Windows BITS has this kind of functionality, and that's essentially what I'm looking to replicate (as far as the throttling goes). I know BITS has other functionality as well that I'm not interested in, and I also have the option to consume it from .NET, but I'm interested in how it works. I've looked online, and I haven't found a clear explanation of how exactly BITS determines how much bandwidth to consume, aside from a vague "BITS polls activity to watch for a drop in the bandwidth used by other programs." What does this mean? Bandwidth consumed by other programs can drop for a number of other reasons as well - can BITS tell the difference? If I was looking for a process that replicated this "stay just under the radar, where the user won't notice the transfers" functionality, how would I go about doing it?

    I have written two small scripts, First one maintains a dictionary of current stock prices for a set of securities. I am using recursion to listen to a named pipe. Whenever there is something available on the name pipe, it updates the security price and goes right back and start listening to the pipe. The second one periodically reads the stock price of some security from the price cache of the first program and performs come calculation. But I have no idea how to make these two programs communicate. I somehow need to make my second programs start the first program and let it run in the background and get the price whenever it needs it. Can someone point me in the right direction?     I've seen many (code-golf) Perl programs out there and even if I can't read them (Don't know Perl) I wonder how you can manage to get such a small bit of code to do what would take 20 lines in some other programming language. What is the secret of Perl? Is there a special syntax that allows you to do complex tasks in few keystrokes? Is it the mix of regular expressions? I'd like to learn how to write powerful and yet short programs like the ones you know from the code-golf challenges here. What would be the best place to start out? I don't want to learn "clean" Perl - I want to write scripts even I don't understand anymore after a week. If there are other programming languages out there with which I can write even shorter code, please tell me.

  • How do I test switching compilers from MSVS 6 to MSVS 2008?

    When switching from MSVS 6 to MSVS 2008, what major differences should I look for when testing the software? I'm coming from more of a QA perspective. We have two programs that work closely together that were originally compiled in Visual C++ 6. Now one of the programs has been compiled in Visual C++ 2008 in order to use a specific CD writing routine. The other program is still compiled under MSVS 6. My manager is very concerned with this change and wants me to run tests specific to this change. Since I deal more with QA and less with development, I really have no idea where to start. I've looked for differences between the two, but nothing has given me a clear direction as far as testing is concerned. Any suggestions would be helpful.

  • Why does my app not work on Android 2.3?

    Hi all, just a quick question about Android 2.3. I've been receiving reports from people using my app that it crashes on startup in Android 2.3. It works absolutely fine on the other SDK versions as far as I can tell. Since I don't have a phone running Android 2.3 I can't test out where the error is, which makes it very frustrating to deal with! Has anyone got any ideas what might have changed in Android 2.3 to mean the app crashes? Has anyone else had a similar problem? The following are ideas I've had for what might be causing it... Splash screen - on my main activity I trigger this in onCreate and it displays for 3 secs before finishing I'm using the GPS capability of Android, has this vastly changed in 2.3 to mean that something's going wrong? There's been a fundamental change in application startup in 2.3 that I'm not aware of. Any feedback would be much appreciated!

    I try to create a simple UIScrollView with paging. And I want to be able to scroll through a large PDF document, but this gives me some problems... I tried the following options: Convert all the PDF pages to UIImages at startup, this works, but is very slow on start Manually drawing the PDF page in the drawRect, but yet again this was slow... And I prefer not to load everything at startup but to do it during the usage. Did anyone did this recently? Can't seem to find a nice example project. Thnx! Jelle

    The problem is fairly simple. I am trying to write a rule, that given the name of the required file will be able to tailor its dependencies. Let's say I have two programs: calc_foo and calc_bar and they generate a file with output dependent on the parameter. My target would have a name 'target_*_*'; for example, 'target_foo_1' would be generated by running './calc_foo 1'. The question is, how to write a makefile that would generate outputs of the two programs for a range of parameters?

  • Just an experiment changing the application data path

    When I change the Appication Data path in windows xp registry to a network folder I get this error message on the next system startup: "windows cannot load the user's profile but has logged you with the default profile system" The registry keys are: "[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders]" "[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders]" under the names "AppData" and "Local AppData" I dont care if "Windows logins you with the default profile system" but is there a way to disable that message, or change the message timeout form 30 seconds to 0?,or maybe create an script that changes the Application Data path every system startup? P.S. The computer with the shared folder is always on.

  • Condor job using DAG with some jobs needing to run the same host

    I have a computation task which is split in several individual program executions, with dependencies. I'm using Condor 7 as task scheduler (with the Vanilla Universe, due do constraints on the programs beyond my reach, so no checkpointing is involved), so DAG looks like a natural solution. However some of the programs need to run on the same host. I could not find a reference on how to do this in the Condor manuals. Example DAG file: JOB A A.condor JOB B B.condor JOB C C.condor JOB D D.condor PARENT A CHILD B C PARENT B C CHILD D I need to express that B and D need to be run on the same computer node, without breaking the parallel execution of B and C.     I expect any good program should do all their reads and writes in a loop until all data written/read without relying that write will write everything (even with regular files). Am I right? Implemented simple FUSE filesystem which only allows reading and writing with small buffers, very often returning that it is written less bytes that in a buffer (using -o direct_io). Some programs work, some not (notably mountlo). Are them buggy or programs should not expect truncated writes and reads from the regular files? In general, are seekable file descriptors expected to truncate data like sockets and pipes?

  • MSI installer not correctly uninstalling a product.

    Hi, I have a situation where a user can install an older version of my software for the 'current user', and then go ahead and upgrade to a newer version of my software for 'all users'. The product itself works fine after this, but the strangeness happens on uninstall. When I try to uninstall the product, the uninstaller shows a couple flashes of progress and then simply dies. It calls none of my custom actions at all (of which i have for install, uninstall, and commit. The product files remain, and I can still launch it. If I try to uninstall again, MSI gives an error saying that the product doesn't exist, but it is still indeed listed on add/remove programs. After this attempted uninstall, the user can work around the problem by uninstalling the 'rest' of the product through add/remove programs (which at this point shows the older version of the product). Any Idea what could cause this?
