• Restore wubi install after changing master drive

  Recently I got a 160G drive to install other Unix distributions and learn to use them for the sake of my current job. However I've got only 2 drive connectors free (on the primary channel). Therefore I've decided to remove an 80G hard drive which has the MBR and the main Windows bootloader. My problem in particular is that I've got another 250G drive which has a Wubi installation of Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid Lynx), which I want to preserve on the bootloader that's going to be running for all the other OSes (potentially Grub). How would I do that? Since Wubi is actually sort of windows reliant, as far as I've learned so far.

• Can you downmix Windows 7 sound to mono?

  I need my Windows 7 64 bit machine to output mono downmixed sound. Downmixed, not just single channel (I'm deaf in one ear). Is there any possibility to force such behavior. I'm looking for a software solution to mix two channels into one. I know that some media players have this functionality, but I'd like the whole system (ie games, flash applications, etc) to produce downmixed audio. (If none exist then just one for Spotify and Windows Media Player would be handy). Cheers.

• Macbook not connecting to WIFI

  I have been having this problem all week. My Macbook aluminium can't see my wifi network. I have changed the channel to one that isn't being used by neighbours and my iphone picks it up straight away. In other words, the router is fine. It's just the macbook can't see it. This is driving me nuts if anyone can help... My airport card details... Card Type: AirPort Extreme (0x14E4, 0x8D) Firmware Version: Broadcom BCM43xx 1.0 (5.10.131.36.1) Locale: ETSI Supported PHY Modes: 802.11 a/b/g/n Supported Channels: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 36, 40, 44, 48, 52, 56, 60, 64, 100, 104, 108, 112, 116, 120, 124, 128, 132, 136, 140 Wake On Wireless: Supported The funny thing is that is was intermitent on Saturday.   I've got a large amount of .MKV video files which seem to all play at a very low volume - I end up having to turn the TV up all the way to hear them, which is really irritating when I switch to another channel and wake the dead because it's so loud. What I'm looking for is a command-line method to increase the volume (so I can run it on all of them quickly) that would hopefully work regardless of the audio codec in use in the particular file. (I don't mind hard-coding the output audio though). For reference, I'm using Ubuntu 9.04 on my server, and the files are being played back with Boxee on a Mac Mini, but the volume problem is the same on Windows too.

• FFMPEG Splitting MP4 with Same Quality

  I have one large MP4 file. I am attempting to split it into smaller files. ffmpeg -i largefile.mp4 -sameq -ss 00:00:00 -t 00:50:00 smallfile.mp4 I thought using -sameq would keep the same quality settings. However, I must not understand what that does. I'm looking to keep the same quality (audio/video) and compression with the split files. However, this setting makes the split files much larger. What flag(s) do I need to set to keep the same quality and attributes in the split files while maintaining the same quality to size ratio? For instance if my original file is about 12 GB and is 1920x1080 with a bitrate of 10617kbps and a framerate of 23 frames/sec and 6 channel audio with 317kbps, I would like the split files to be the same only a third of this size (if i split it into three pieces).

The netsh wlan show hostednetwork command gives the output Hosted network settings ----------------------- Mode : Allowed SSID name : "rambo" Max number of clients : 100 Authentication : WPA2-Personal Cipher : CCMP Hosted network status --------------------- Status : Started BSSID : xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx Radio type : 802.11n Channel : 11 Number of clients : 1 xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx Authenticated But I have forgot the password for this connection and after some googling I found the command netsh wlan refresh hostednetwork YourNewNetworkPassword. But on executing this command it get the error C:\Users\user>netsh wlan refresh hostednetwork rambo123 Invalid value "rambo123" for command option "data". Usage: refresh hostednetwork [data=]key I have no idea what is wrong with this command.

• Why does using 2 memory sticks cause my computer to crash?

  My computer randomly crashes when playing games, but if I remove one memory stick (it does not matter which one I remove), it does not crash anymore. Memory tests do not find errors, I just put in a new power supply (650W), I only have 1 graphics card, so why is this happening? BTW, they are the same memory, same vendor same specs, everything I bought it together (2x2GB) My motherboard is a Asus P5Q Pro, so it supports both dual channel and more than 4gb. Switching slots does nothing, as long as I don't use more than 1 I'm fine.

• ssh tunnel through an intermediate host

  I have configured an SSH tunnel to forward my web traffic from hostA to hostC using this command on hostA: ssh -D 2222 user@hostC after configuring my browser to use a proxy on port 2222. This works great. However, I now want to forward the same traffic through an intermediate SSH connection on hostB in order to get to hostC. I tried this on hostA: ssh user@hostB -L 2222:hostB:22 but I get "channel x: open failed" errors. Does anyone know the correct way of doing this?

  I would like to get Windows Server 2008 R2 Foundation but I have not found any channel to get it from. I am in the middle of applying to a MS certified vendor/reseller to OEM thise as part of a product I am selling. The scaled-down OS is what we need - rather than a full-blown server platform and we don't want a client OS. I just can't find anyone who can tell me how to get it or even find anyone who has seen it. Anyone have details about how to get it or have you ever used it?

• Debian - no sound output

  So I've been trying for the last few days to get sound output on my Linux desktop. The onboard audio is Intel HD Audio ICH9, but I couldn't get Alsa to even detect it, so I disabled it in BIOS and installed a PCI card - a Dynex DX-SC51. Searching around, I found that it needed the Alsa driver for ice1724, so I installed all the stuff for that. Now, the system detects my sound card, but I can't get any audio to play out of it. • Memory Speeds: 1x4GB or 2x2GB? [closed]

  When it comes to speeds what is faster having one 4GB module in your system or having two 2GB modules. I'm not taking in the fact that the system could have dual channel capabilities. Also what about a server environment? Would it be better to have one large, high density module or break it up into several modules for speed and price? I heard an engineer at my office having a discussion with an employee. He said that its better in all situations to have one large capacity modules instead of breaking it up. It would be cheaper and perform faster. He also said it would take longer for the computer to access what it needed if there were more modules instead of having just one. His explanation didn't seem right to me and I thought I would post this question here to see what other people thought.

• How to intercept raw soap request/response (data) from WCF client

  This question seems to be pretty close to what I am looking for - I was able to setup tracing and I am looking at the log entries for my calls to the service. However I need to see the raw soap request with the data I am sending to the service and I see no way of doing that from the SvcTraceViewer (only log entries are shown but no data sent to the service) - am I just missing configuration? • How add service reference in visual studio 2008 authenticating against password-protected web servic

  Hello, first time here... great site Well, I want to reference a web service, and it requires user/pass authentication. In VS 2008, if I try to "add reference", or "add service reference", all I can type is the URL, there's no way to input my credentials. Obviously, if I try to load the ws, it shows me a nice message: "The request failed with HTTP status 403: Forbidden. Metadata contains a reference that cannot be resolved: The HTTP request is unauthorized with client authentication scheme 'Anonymous'. The authentication header received from the server was 'Basic realm="weblogic"'. The remote server returned an error: (401) Unauthorized." So my question is: Is it possible (using VS 2008) to add a reference to a web service that is protected? How? Any help is kindly appreciated. Thanks!

• Windows Server 2008 R2 + IIS 7.5 + ASP.NET 4.0 = HTTP Error 500.0

  I am having an impossible time getting asp.net 4.0 to work in any fashion at all. In fact, I completely wiped my server, reinstalled with Server 2008 R2 Standard (running on a VMWare ESXi box, not that it should matter), and cannot even get a test .aspx page to work. Here is exactly what I did: Installed 2008 R2 Standard Activated windows and enabled Remote Desktop Installed the Web Server Role with the necessary role services(common http, asp.net, logging, tracing, management service and FTP) Enabled the management service Installed .Net Framework 4.0 via web executable Added FTP publishing to the default web site Switched default web site application pool to asp.net 4.0 (integrated) Added a 'test.aspx' file to the inetpub\wwwroot folder (contents below) Opened a browser to http://localhost/test.aspx and received a 500.0 error (also below) What am I missing? I haven't touched IIS in a while (3+ years), so it could be something stupid/trvial. Please point it out, call me a noob; my ego can take it.   Hello We are using Seam 2.2.0 Java 1.6.14 Weblogic 10.3.1.0 (named 11g Doh!) I have looked at Seam reference Seam in action These web pages However I still do not understand how to inject an EJB3 bean into a JSF backing bean. It seems to me that I have to (correct me if I am wrong) Annotate with @Name my backing bean Annotate with @Name my EJB3 bean Use the @In annotation in the backing bean Put an empty seam.properties file in the WAR that contains the backing bean Put an empty seam.properties file in the JAR that contains the EJB Set up a Seam interceptor in ejb-jar.xml of the EJB Don't I need to setup some JNDI URL somewhere? How exactly does Seam will find the EJB? The interceptor is enough? Also this means that I have to add a seam dependency in my EJB archive (because of the @Name annotation). So the web layer (Seam) "spills" into my business logic (EJB). Is this the recommended approach? Am I missing something here?

• Sending Illegal XML Characters in Soap Request

  I am trying to send special (&, ' (single quote)) characters in the Soap Request. I am using axis 1.4. The webservice client is in weblogic server and the webservice server is an ibm mainframe (COBOL program). The request data from the client contains special character (& symbol) which is converted to &amp; I tried to enclose it with CDATA as <![CDATA[Some Name & Some Data ]]> which got converted to &lt;![CDATA[Some Name &amp; Some Data]]&gt; The webservice client is generated from wsdl, so I couldn't use CDATA api to construct the request. I am able to set it as string value, and it is getting converted. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Please let me know if you need any more information on this.

  I'm trying to implement an RSS Feeder in python using PyRSS2Gen and it created an XML file. Now in jQuery I'm using Google Ajax API's RSS reader and trying to read it. I get an error saying something is wrong. I'm unable to figure out the issue. I've checked some documentation but not able to get it. • Any serious problems when making an old java web app run on new IE 8 browser?

  I need make an quick estimation on project (not sure we got): It's an old banking CMS java web app: Server: jdk5, weblogic 9. Client: winXP, Ie6. It was design only for use with ie6 but now we need make it also run well on new client: ie8,ie7 on win7. I understand the most difference is the client: DOM and CSS. But my problem is we hasn't been worked with ie8, and I have not enough time to build an testing environment because our developing environment is not ready to make test (its remoting completely, and managed by another partner) Any experience or suggestion to help me weighing this task need will be welcomed.

• URLCallback with JAAS on WAS?

  I extended the JAAS javax.security.auth.spi.LoginModule, and installed it into a WAS server. It works; all logins go through the code in this new class, and if it says to not let them login, they're prevented from logging in. The root problem: I don't want it to filter logins for the admin console (/ibm/console), but I do want it to filter logins for other things on the server. I think that with the available setup, the login module applies to everything installed on the server, including the administration screens. I'd like to solve that by getting the URL of the page that triggered the call to the LoginModule. If I were using WebLogic, I'd use a URLCallback to get the URL. Does anyone know if Websphere Application Server has any parallel functionality to that, or if there's another workaround?

• Does anyone know what these Oracle AQ JMS XA properties do?

  I'm using Oracle Advanced Queues via JMS from within Websphere App Server. Does anyone know what effect the following two properties have:- - oracle.jms.useEmulatedXA - oracle.jms.useNativeXA I have seen mentioned in some blogs and quick start guides, usually in sentences along the lines of "Add -Doracle.jms.useEmulatedXA=false -Doracle.jms.useNativeXA=true to the JAVA_PROPERTIES variable", without any explanation as to what they do:- e.g. http://biemond.blogspot.com/2008/11/using-aq-in-weblogic-103.html http://sqltech.cl/doc/oas10gR31/integrate.1013/b28994/adptr_aq.htm#CHDEADFB I'm curious as to what these two properties actually do, and what the implications of setting them are, even though they don't seem to have any affect on our app regardless of whether we set them or not. Googling hasn't given any answers, does anyone have any clue what they actually do?

• How do I fix this JBoss EJB client authentication issue?

  I have an EJB deployed under JBoss (we're moving a project to it from Weblogic), I can get an EJBHome reference to the EJB via a JNDI lookup. The login-config.xml is set to use the module org.jboss.security.auth.spi.BaseCertLoginModule. When my client code tries to invoke the create method via reflection, calling invoke, I get an InvocationException which wraps an AccessException, which wraps a final exception of javax.security.auth.login.FailedLoginException: Password Incorrect/Password Required at org.jboss.security.auth.spi.UsernamePasswordLoginModule.login(UsernamePasswordLoginModule.java:213).... Am I missing some client code to use BaseCertLoginModule instead of UsernamePasswordLoginModule? Thanks in advance, any suggestions appreciated, apologies for not posting the entire stacktrace but it's on a secured network without internet access.

• RSS feed doesnt display items. Only title

  So i just made my first RSS feed, or so i tought, in combination with CI. Now my view DOES display the top of my rss page (Title and Description), But all items are omitted. When i rightclick-view source it DOES contain all the items within the item tags. Can anyone help me?
