  • Notepad++ incorrect syntax highlithing?

    - by user360919
    So I want to build a XHTML 1.0 Strict based website. Using Notepad++ for syntax highlighting came as an idea to me. But when I tried to put the XML declaration (as stated in the spec, proper XHTML pages should use a XML declaration and be served as application/xhtml+xml) I can't get the entire document highlighted propperly. Here is the code I used for a basic page: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="no" ?> <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en-us" lang="en-us"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="application/xhtml+xml; charset=UTF-8" /> <title>Page</title> <script type="application/javascript"> alert("A perfectly valid xHTML page..."); </script> <style type="text/css"> #test { text-align: center; } </style> </head> <body> <h1 id="test">TEST</h1> </body> </html> Paste this in Notepad++ and you'll see that it won't highlight the code between <script type="application/javascript"> and </script> (it renders its background white) if language is set to XML. If I set the language to HTML, then the script gets correctly highlighted but the XML declaration is not. What to do? How to make a hybrid language - combination of XML and HTML?

  • Progress 4GL and DB to Oracle and cloud

    - by llaszews
    Getting from client/server based 4GLs and databases where the 4GL is tightly linked to the database to Oracle and the cloud is not easy. The least risky and expensive option (in the short term) is to use the Progress OpenEdge DataServer for Oracle: Progress OpenEdge DataServer This eliminates the need to have to migrate the Progress 4GL to Java/J2EE. The database can be migrated using SQLWays Ispirer: Ispirer SQLWays ProgressDB migrations tool The Progress 4GL can remain as is. In order to get the application on the cloud there are a few approaches: 1. VDI - Virtual Desktop is a way to put all of the users desktop in a centralized environment off the desktop. This is great in cases where it is just not one client/server application that the user needs access too. In many cases, users will utilize MS Access, MS Excel, Crystal Reports and other tools to get at the Progress DB and other centralized databases. Vmware's acquistion of Wanova shows how VDI is growing in usage. Citrix is the 800 pound gorilla in the VDI space with Citrix WinFrame (now called XenDesktop). Oracle offers a VDI solution that Oracle picked up when it acquired Sun. 2. Hypervisor Server Virtualization - Of course you can place applications written in client/server languages like Progress 4GL buy using server virtualization from Oracle, VMWare, Microsoft, Citrix and others. 3. Microsoft Remote Desktop Services (aka: Terminal Services Client) The entire idea is to eliminate all the client/server desktop devices and connections which require desktop software and database drivers. A solution to removing database drivers from the desktop is to use DataDirect SQLLink

  • DB API for shell scripting (any shell)

    - by foampile
    I am faced with some legacy shell scripts that run batch data processing jobs in Oracle using SQL+. For the most part, the data tier does not have to communicate back to the script with retrieved data to be passed for shell-level processing but in a few cases it does. The problem is, SQL+ is really meant to be an end user app and not an API that can communicate with other clients programmaticaly. That is why people have invented APIs such as DBD::DBI for Perl, JDBC for Java, ODBC etc. The way it is done is they invoke SQL+ and then parse the output, which is clearly designed for human eye consumption, using tools like sed and awk. The whole thing is at best a hack and very prone to bugs. Since this client is rather conservative with their technology, they don't want to scale their scripts up to Perl or Python where there are data access APIs. So I am wondering whether there are similar APIs for shell, e.g. K or bash. What I would like is if an API would return data in a 2-dimensional array or strings (for the lack of type setting) so that I can just read DB data like that. The way they do it now is akin to parsing regular web page HTML to get a single stock quote rather than cleanly calling a web service and be done with it. Anybody know of a product I can use? Thanks

  • Middle tier language for interfacing C/C++ with db and web app

    - by ggkmath
    I have a web application requiring a middle-tier language to communicate between an oracle database and math routines on a Linux server and a flex-based application on a client. I'm not a software expert, and need recommendations for which language to use for the middle-tier. The math routines are currently in Matlab but will be ported to C (or C++) as shared libraries. Thus, by default there's some C or C++ communication necessary. These routines rely on FFTW (www.fftw.org), which is called directly from C or C++ (thus, I don't see re-writing these routines in another language). The middle tier must manage traffic between the client, the math routines, and the Oracle database. The client will trigger the math routines aynchronously, and the results saved in the db and transferred back to the client, etc. The middle-tier will also need to authenticate user accounts/passwords, and send out various administrative emails. Originally I thought PhP the obvious choice, but interfacing asychronously multiple clients with the C or C++ routines doesn't seem straightforward. Then I thought, why not just keep the whole middle tier in C or C++, but I'm not sure if this is done in the industry (C or C++ doesn't seem as web-friendly as other languages). There's always Jave + JNI, but maybe that introduces other complications (not sure). Any feedback appreciated.

  • xsltproc killed, out of memory

    - by David Parks
    I'm trying to split up a 13GB xml file into small ~50MB xml files with this XSLT style sheet. But this process kills xsltproc after I see it taking up over 1.7GB of memory (that's the total on the system). Is there any way to deal with huge XML files with xsltproc? Can I change my style sheet? Or should I use a different processor? Or am I just S.O.L.? <xsl:stylesheet xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform" version="1.0" xmlns:exsl="http://exslt.org/common" extension-element-prefixes="exsl" xmlns:fn="http://www.w3.org/2005/xpath-functions"> <xsl:output method="xml" indent="yes"/> <xsl:strip-space elements="*"/> <xsl:param name="block-size" select="75000"/> <xsl:template match="/"> <xsl:copy> <xsl:apply-templates select="mysqldump/database/table_data/row[position() mod $block-size = 1]" /> </xsl:copy> </xsl:template> <xsl:template match="row"> <exsl:document href="chunk-{position()}.xml"> <add> <xsl:for-each select=". | following-sibling::row[position() &lt; $block-size]" > <doc> <xsl:for-each select="field"> <field> <xsl:attribute name="name"><xsl:value-of select="./@name"/></xsl:attribute> <xsl:value-of select="."/> </field> <xsl:text>&#xa;</xsl:text> </xsl:for-each> </doc> </xsl:for-each> </add> </exsl:document> </xsl:template>

  • XSLT: Transform XML files tree

    - by Myniva
    I have the following file structure (XML files 'index.xml' in nested folders): index.xml foo/index.xml foo/sub/index.xml foo/.../index.xml bar/.../index.xml Now I have to transform each of this XML files with a given XSL stylesheet. The result should be the same folder structure (overwriting would be OK). What would be your approach to achieve this? My system: OS X 10.6, Saxon XSLT processor

However, if I pass it it query with a join clause my page just hangs and not error is return. I cut and paste the qry in a query browesr and it is valid Any help would be great $SQL = "select name from mytable" $db = new DatabaseService($dbinfo) $db ->fetchall($SQL ) // works ----------------------------------------------------------- $SQL = "select count(*) as cnt from EndPoints join CallID on EndPoints.`CallID` = CallID.CallID where EndPoints.LastRegister >= '2010-04-21 00:00:01' and EndPoints.LastRegister <= '2010-04-21 23:59:59' " $db = new DatabaseService($dbinfo) $db ->fetchall($SQL ) // DOES NO WORK class DatabaseService { function DatabaseService($dbinfo,$dbname="") { try { $dbConfig = array( 'host' => $this->host, 'username' => $this->username, 'password' => $password, 'dbname' => $this->dbname ); $this->db = Zend_Db::factory($this->adapter, $dbConfig); Zend_Db_Table::setDefaultAdapter($this->db); } catch(Zend_Exception $e) { $this->error = $e->getMessage(); Helper::log($this->error); return false; } } public function connnect() { if($this->db !=null) { try { $this->db->getConnection(); return true; } catch (Zend_Exception $e) { $err = "FAILED ::".$e->getMessage()." <br />"; } } return false; } public function fetchall($sql) { $res= $this->db->fetchAll($sql); return $res; } }

  • Sitemaps - do I need to submit each sitemap in sitemap_index.xml to Google Webmaster tools?

    - by iSumitG
    I am having a Wordpress blog on my CentOS server. There is no sitemap.xml in the root directory but there is sitemap_index.xml file in the root directory which contains the following code: <?xml-stylesheet type="text/xsl" href="http://mywebsite.com/wp-content/plugins/wordpress-seo/css/xml-sitemap-xsl.php"?> <sitemapindex xmlns="http://www.sitemaps.org/schemas/sitemap/0.9"> <sitemap> <loc> http://mywebsite.com/post-sitemap.xml </loc> <lastmod> 2012-12-18T19:47:47+00:00 </lastmod> </sitemap> <sitemap> <loc> http://mywebsite.com/page-sitemap.xml </loc> <lastmod> 2012-12-18T17:32:49+00:00 </lastmod> </sitemap> </sitemapindex> My question: Which sitemap should I submit to Google Webmasters Tools? Options are: Only sitemap_index.xml Only post-sitemap.xml and page-sitemap.xml All 3 (sitemap_index.xml, post-sitemap.xml and page-sitemap.xml) Any other, please let me know.

  • Open XML SDK 2 Released

    - by Tim Murphy
    Note: Cross posted from Coding The Document. Permalink This post is a little late since the SDK was released about a week ago.  At PSC we have been using the Open XML SDK 2 since its earliest beta.  It is a very powerful tool for generating documents without using the Office DLLs.  It is also the main technology that I have been working with for the last six months.  I would suggest giving it a try.  Stay tuned here.  In the near future I will be presenting at different locations on this and other document generation technologies. Download the Open XML SDK here. del.icio.us Tags: Office Open XML,Open XML SDK 2

  • Using XSLT for messaging instead of marshalling/unmarshalling Java message objects

    - by Joost van Stuijvenberg
    So far I have been using either handmade or generated (e.g. JAXB) Java objects as 'carriers' for messages in message processing software such as protocol converters. This often leads to tedious programming, such as copying/converting data from one system's message object to an instance of another's system message object. And it sure brings in lots of Java code with getters and setters for each message attribute, validation code, etc. I was wondering whether it would be a good idea to convert one system's XML message into another system's format - or even convert requests into responses from the same system - using XSLT. This would mean I would no longer have to unmarshall XML streams to Java objects, copy/convert data using Java and marshall the resulting message object to another XML stream. Since each message may actually have a purpose I would 'link' the message (and the payload it contains in its properties or XML elements/attributes) to EXSLT functions. This would change my design approach from an imperative to a declarative style. Has anyone done this before and, if so, what are your experiences? Does the reduced amount of Java 'boiler plate' code weigh up to the increased complexity of (E)XSLT?

  • What's the problem with Scala's XML literals?

    - by Oak
    In this post, Martin (the language's head honcho) writes: [XML literals] Seemed a great idea at the time, now it sticks out like a sore thumb. I believe with the new string interpolation scheme we will be able to put all of XML processing in the libraries, which should be a big win. Being interested in language design myself, I'm wondering: Why does he write that it was a mistake to incorporate XML literals into the language? What is the controversy regarding this feature?

  • Creating, using and managing XML component dictionaries quick tutorials

    - by drrwebber
    XML Component Dictionary capabilities are provided in conjunction with the CAM Editor toolset.  These dictionaries accelerate the development of consistent XML information exchanges using standard sets of dictionary components. The quick tutorials are aimed at showing the 'how to' of the basic capabilities to jump start use of XML dictionaries with the CAM Editor. The collection of dictionary tutorials videos run for a total of approximately 20 minutes.  Each video can be reviewed individually also. Learn how to use the dictionary functions to create dictionaries by harvesting data model components from existing XSD schema, SQL database table schema, or simple Excel / Open Office spreadsheets with tables of components listed.Also included are tips and functions relating to use of NIEM exchange development, IEPD and EIEM techniques.These videos should be viewed in conjunction with reviewing the overall concepts and techniques described in the companion video on the CAM Editor and Dictionaries overview.  The approach is aligned with OASIS and Core Components Technical Specification (CCTS) standards specifications for XML components and dictionaries.Dictionary collections can be stored locally on the file system, or local network, or collaboratively on the web or cloud deployment, or can be shared and managed securely using the Oracle Enterprise Repository (OER) tool. Also included are techniques relating to the use of the NIEM approach for developing XML exchange schema and IEPD packages.  This includes generating reuse scores, wantlist, and cross reference spreadsheets. Included in the latest release of the CAM Editor is the ability to use the analyse dictionary tool to determine duplicate components, conflicting component definitions, missing component descriptions and so on.  This ensures high quality dictionary component specifications.  Using the CAM Editor you can also create MindMap models and UML physical models of your dictionary components sets. For a complete guide to using the CAM Editor see the main YouTube video tutorials website and the CAM Editor website.
