  • Is the master database backup crucial for restoring MS SQL server in the event where you have to res

    - by Imagineer
I have been advise by Commvault partner support to turn off the backup of the master database as the backup failed due to the log file being lock. The following is the advise given: "The message is caused by Commvault’s inability to backup the master database’s transaction log. If this is happening intermittently its possible that something is locking the transaction log, preventing SQL iData agent from accessing the log. Typically the master database is just a template and is not used by any applications (applications that do require the use of an SQL database create their own) so there should be no harm in preventing it from being backed up You can do this by nominating NOT to back it up in the primary copy for the SQL data agent" The following is the error that I get. sqlxx SQL Server/ SQLxx N/A/ System DBs 19856* (CWE) Transaction Log N/A 01/08/2010 19:00:16 (01/08/2010 19:00:18 ) 01/08/2010 19:03:15 (01/08/2010 19:03:14 ) 1.44 MB 0:01:11 0.071 2 0 1 ITD014L2 Failure Reason: • ERROR CODE [30:325]: Error encountered during backup. • Why are my 2 new windows 7 (64 bit) workstations taking over 10 minutes to log on to the SBS 2008 do

    - by Howie Hughes
Hi, we have a SBS 2008 domain. On this we have windows XP clients. However, we are testing the windows 7 (64 bit) machines on the network. It takes between 10 & 15 minutes to log on - every time! I have checked the event logs on the client machine, and the only error I can see is; Event ID: 6005 The winlogon notification subscriber is took 615 seconds to handle the notification event (CreateSession). I have no warnings in the server event log, everything pings ok by name, so am guessing DNS is fine. Can someone please lend a hand with this, as we really want to go with windows 7. Lastly, both the server, and the windows 7 machines are fully patched and updated. Thank you.

  • WebLogic Server 11g with java based node manager stdout/stderr log path configuration.

    - by Mircea Vutcovici
Hi, How I can configure the path where the stdout logs are written by the WebLogic server? I've read about -Dweblogic.log.RedirectStdoutToServerLogEnabled=true, but this redirects only part of the output. For example if I will run a thread dump, the output will remain in the original log file. I think it should be an option in nodemanager/startup.properties file. WebLogic version is 10.3.2.0 and I am using a java based node manager. OS is RHEL 5. Thank you, Mircea

  • In Windows 7 Home Premium, is it possible to grant a user account the "log on as a service" right and if so, how?

    - by Ryan Johnson
The title says it all. I need to have the ability for a local user account to log on as a service on a computer running Windows 7 Home Premium. In Windows 7 Ultimate, this is accomplished by going to Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Local Security Policy and adding the user to the "Log on as a service" policy. In Home Premium, there is no Local Security Policy in the Control Panel. Is there another way to add the use to that policy (i.e. registry setting) or is my only recourse to upgrade the computer to Windows 7 Professional? Thanks in Advance, Ryan

    - by Gary
Bear withe me, here is my set up. I use my 27" iMac 3.06GHz Core 2 Duo 4GB Ram to connect to my work desktop running Windows 7. From there I can administer other remote servers. Here is the problem. Using the Remote Desktop Client on my Mac I can connect to my work machine no problem. But when I then use the work machine to open a remote desktop session with another Windows server (usually SBS 2003 but applies to all) I get the log in prompt, I enter the user name password ensure i'm connecting to the domain, but it wont log me in. The error message is the same, as though I had typed the wrong password (i know this is not the case). Does anyone have a solution? Thanks in advance. Gary

  • /var/log/secure user activity. also, httpd can not start without two users

hello, i found some strange informations in /var/log/secure file: Feb 10 02:02:04 server2364 usermod[30750]: unlock user `username1' password Feb 10 02:02:04 server2364 usermod[30811]: lock user `username2' password Feb 10 02:05:16 server2364 usermod[30992]: unlock user `username2' password Feb 10 02:05:18 server2364 usermod[31114]: unlock user `username1' password username1 and username2 are two usernames on system, that have no ability to login. for every night in 02:02h results like that are in /var/log/secure file. one more thing: files /etc/shadow, and /etc/shadow have timestamps 02:05h. what can be cause for it? next thing, if i remove those two accounts (username1 and username2), i can not start web server. can you help me with some ideas, am i hacked?

  • Can I put /tmp and /var/log in a ramdisk on OS X?

    - by kbyrd
For non-critical Linux systems, I often move things /tmp and /var/log to tmpfs to save on some disk writing. I've been doing this for a year or so and if I ever need the logs across reboots, I just comment out a line in /etc/fstab and then start debugging. In any case, I would like to do the same thing on OS X. I've seen posts on creating a ramdisk for OS X, but I'm looking for a more permanent solution. I always want /tmp and /var/log mounted in a ramdisk, with the ability to turn that off with a bit of cmdline editing in vi if I have to.

  • Can't log in via SSH to any accounts set to use /bin/bash as a default shell

    - by Gui Ambros
I'm trying to install bash as the default shell on a ARM Linux running on an embedded device (Synology DS212+ NAS). But there's something really wrong, and I can't figure out what it is. Symptoms: 1) Root has /bin/bash as default shell, and can log in normally via SSH: $ grep root /etc/passwd root:x:0:0:root:/root:/bin/bash $ ssh root@NAS root@NAS's password: Last login: Sun Dec 16 14:06:56 2012 from desktop # 2) joeuser has /bin/bash as default shell, and receives "Permission denied" when trying to log in via SSH: $ grep joeuser /etc/passwd joeuser:x:1029:100:Joe User:/home/joeuser:/bin/bash $ ssh joeuser@localhost joeuser@NAS's password: Last login: Sun Dec 16 14:07:22 2012 from desktop Permission denied, please try again. Connection to localhost closed. 3) changing joeuser's shell back to /bin/sh: $ grep joeuser /etc/passwd joeuser:x:1029:100:Joe User:/home/joeuser:/bin/sh $ ssh joeuser@localhost Last login: Sun Dec 16 15:50:52 2012 from localhost $ To make things even more strange, I can log in as joeuser using /bin/bash using the serial console (!). Also a su - joeuser as root works fine, so the bash binary itself is working fine. In an act of despair, I changed joeuser's uid to 0 on /etc/passwd, but also didn't work, so it doesn't seem to be anything permission related. Seems that bash is doing some extra checking that sshd didn't like, and blocking the connections for non-root users. Maybe some sort of sanity checking - or terminal emulation - that is triggering the SIGCHLD, but only when called via ssh. I already went through every single item on sshd_config, and also put SSHD in debug mode, but didn't find anything strange. Here's my /etc/ssh/sshd_config: LogLevel DEBUG LoginGraceTime 2m PermitRootLogin yes RSAAuthentication yes PubkeyAuthentication yes AuthorizedKeysFile %h/.ssh/authorized_keys ChallengeResponseAuthentication no UsePAM yes AllowTcpForwarding no ChrootDirectory none Subsystem sftp internal-sftp -f DAEMON -u 000 And here's the output from /usr/syno/sbin/sshd -d, showing the failed attempt of joeuser trying to log in, with /bin/bash as the shell: debug1: Config token is loglevel debug1: Config token is logingracetime debug1: Config token is permitrootlogin debug1: Config token is rsaauthentication debug1: Config token is pubkeyauthentication debug1: Config token is authorizedkeysfile debug1: Config token is challengeresponseauthentication debug1: Config token is usepam debug1: Config token is allowtcpforwarding debug1: Config token is chrootdirectory debug1: Config token is subsystem debug1: HPN Buffer Size: 87380 debug1: sshd version OpenSSH_5.8p1-hpn13v11 debug1: read PEM private key done: type RSA debug1: private host key: #0 type 1 RSA debug1: read PEM private key done: type DSA debug1: private host key: #1 type 2 DSA debug1: read PEM private key done: type ECDSA debug1: private host key: #2 type 3 ECDSA debug1: rexec_argv[0]='/usr/syno/sbin/sshd' debug1: rexec_argv[1]='-d' Set /proc/self/oom_adj from 0 to -17 debug1: Bind to port 22 on ::. debug1: Server TCP RWIN socket size: 87380 debug1: HPN Buffer Size: 87380 Server listening on :: port 22. debug1: Bind to port 22 on 0.0.0.0. debug1: Server TCP RWIN socket size: 87380 debug1: HPN Buffer Size: 87380 Server listening on 0.0.0.0 port 22. debug1: Server will not fork when running in debugging mode. debug1: rexec start in 6 out 6 newsock 6 pipe -1 sock 9 debug1: inetd sockets after dupping: 4, 4 Connection from 127.0.0.1 port 52212 debug1: HPN Disabled: 0, HPN Buffer Size: 87380 debug1: Client protocol version 2.0; I also tried using a pre-compiled binary from the Optware distribution, but had the exact same problem. I checked for missing shared libraries using objdump -x, but they're all there. Any ideas what could be causing this "Permission denied, please try again."? I'm almost diving in the bash source code to investigate, but trying to avoid hours chasing something that may be silly.

  • Why not all users can log in to a network computer by using <network computer name>/<user name> form

    - by Haris
There is a file server in my office that is not connected to my office LAN. In this server there are folders that are shared. This server is connected to a switch and a wireless router. Everyone who wants to access this server uses wireless network connection. They log in to this server by providing user name and password registered to the server. Some people can log in to my office file server by providing user name in (the server name)/(user name) format, while other must use (the server IP address)/(user name) format. Why is it like this? I need everyone can access the file server by providing user name in (the server name)/(user name) format. I have tried to change the %SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file, as some suggested, but it won't work. Any other suggestion?

  • How to configure/save layout of SQL Server's Log File Viewer?

    - by gernblandston
When I'm viewing the job history of a particular SQL Agent Job, I typically want to see whether it succeeded, its duration and maybe the duration of the individual steps of the job. When I open the history in the Log File Viewer, I always need to scroll over and shrink the 'Message' column and drag the 'Duration' column over next to the 'Step Name' column. Is there a way to configure the layout of the Log File Viewer (e.g. reposition columns, resize columns) and save it for future sessions? Thanks!

  • How can I log all traffic with its exact length?

    - by Legate
I want to process all packets with their size going through our gateway server (running Debian 4.0). My idea is to use tcpdump, but I have two questions. The command I'm currently thinking of is tcpdump -i iface -n -t -q. Is it guaranteed that tcpdump will process all packets? What happens if the CPU is working to full capacity? The format of the output lines is IP ddd.ddd.ddd.ddd.port > ddd.ddd.ddd.ddd.port: tcp 1260. What exactly is 1260? I have the suspicion that it is the payload in bytes of the packet, which would be exactly what I need, but I'm not sure. It might be the TCP Window Size. Or perhaps there is an even better way of doing this? I thought about a LOG rule in iptables, but tcpdump seems easier and I don't know whether iptables can log the packet lengths.

  • Lenovo ThinkPad: What does the PWMDBSVC.exe service do? It's writing a C:\Log.txt file.

    - by thinkPadUser
I found a file that keeps popping up in my C:\ drive root, Log.txt ... after installing Process Monitor and seeing what process was writing to it, I came across PWMDBSVC.exe, which appears to be part of the Lenovo ThinkPad software. Even if I delete it, I can get it to re-create the Log.txt when I lock and unlock my workstation. Does anybody know what this software does and whether it is safe to disable? I searched Google already and got the usual pile of useless hits on the process name but nothing seemingly definitive!

  • how to prevent log output from PostgreSQL stored procedure ?

    - by ssc
I am running a number of PostgreSQL scripts that used to produce excessive log output. I managed to reduce most of the output to an acceptable amount by passing --quiet as parameter to the psql command line client and adding SET client_min_messages='warning'; to the beginning of my SQL scripts. This works fine for most basic statements like SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, etc.) However, when I call a stored function in a script using e.g. SELECT my_func(my_args);, there is still log output similar to my_func (omitted a long with many '-' here because SF thinks that's a headline) (1 row) The output is useless; it only makes me having to scroll back up a long way after the script has run and also makes it much harder than necessary to spot any relevant error output. How can I get rid of it ?

    - by 1337ingDisorder
Subject header pretty much covers it. I have a windows Home Server which can only be accessed through remote desktop. I could log in for ages, but for the past couple weeks I haven't been able to log in. As soon as I enter my username/password and click OK, I get an alert dialog stating the following: "A problem is preventing Windows from accurately checking the license for this computer. Error Code: 0x8007007e" When I click "Ok" (the only option) the dialog closes and my remote session closes. How can I get around this? I've tried powering down the machine and powering it back up. Same results.

  • Is there a simpler way to log into a local account on a domain workstation?

    - by David
Occasionally I need to log into a local machine account on a Windows workstation joined to our domain. The syntax for specifying a domain account looks like this: DOMAINNAME\myusername whereas the syntax for logging into a local account is HOSTNAME\myusername The problem is that I often don't know the host name off the top of my head. It is possible to find out by clicking the "How do I log onto another domain" link, but this requires me to memorize or write down an often cryptic hostname. Is there another, simpler way to do this?

  • Why are my log in times taking so long in Linux?

    - by Jamie
In recent weeks, login times on my Ubuntu server have started timing out; both through SSH and the local command line console. Examination of the /var/auth.log yields nothing interesting. How can I diagnose long log in times on my Ubuntu server? I should mention, also, that no updates have been performed since the problem has started, and that the /, /boot/ and /usr/ file systems are mounted as readonly. [Edit] This is a stand alone machine, so it doesn't authenticate with Active Directory, LDAP etc. Also, the login prompt is responsive, as is the password prompt. Upon typing the password then CR, I'll timeout. After four a five tries, I will be able to login, although I'm worried this will start taking longer.

  • How can I use the proxy settings on Epic privacy browser to log on to Facebook?

    - by EddieN120
I love the Epic privacy browser because it is built from the ground up to enhance privacy. It's built on Chromium but because it has stripped out all code that tracks users across the Internet, pages load faster and things work snappier. With one click you can enable a proxy to hide your IP address, sort of like Chrome's "Incognito" mode on steroids. But there's a problem: if I load Epic, go to facebook.com, log in, and then click the proxy button, I can use Facebook for a while. But eventually, Facebook would throw up an error screen, saying that it thinks that my account has been hacked, and then it would make me verify my identity, force me to change my password, etc. I've had to change my password four times in as many days, which is very annoying. Now I turn on the proxy for browsing on to every other site but Facebook. Question: how can I use the proxy settings on Epic privacy browser to successfully log onto and use Facebook?

  • How can I get logrotate dateext to reflect the log date rather than the rotation date?

    - by Adam
My Apache logrotate config looks like this: /var/log/http/*log { monthly dateext dateformat .%Y.%m [... rest stripped for brevity ...] } This works great, except that the date on the rotated filename is one period later than the period actually covered by the logs, for example error_log.2012.09 covers 2012-08-01 to 2012-08-31. I realize that there are other options for Apache (eg. cronolog), but I have a bunch of other logs that I also need to rotate, and logrotate is really exactly what I need apart from this one issue. Is there a way to get logrotate to use a date offset -- or, even better, figure out the previous time period -- when generating the rotated filename?

But with the help of some example found on the web, i managed to get it right (i still don't understand why 8 represents the second week of a month in day_of_month!!! but whatever) Now i have written a simple Junit test to validate what i understand: package test; import static org.junit.Assert.assertEquals; import java.sql.Timestamp; import java.util.Calendar; import java.util.GregorianCalendar; import java.util.SimpleTimeZone; import org.apache.log4j.Logger; import org.junit.Test; public class SimpleTimeZoneTest { Logger log = Logger.getLogger(SimpleTimeZoneTest.class); @Test public void testTimeZoneWithDST() throws Exception { Calendar testDateEndOut = new GregorianCalendar(2012, Calendar.NOVEMBER, 4, 01, 59, 59); Calendar testDateEndIn = new GregorianCalendar(2012, Calendar.NOVEMBER, 4, 02, 00, 00); Calendar testDateStartOut = new GregorianCalendar(2012, Calendar.MARCH, 11, 01, 59, 59); Calendar testDateStartIn = new GregorianCalendar(2012, Calendar.MARCH, 11, 02, 00, 00); SimpleTimeZone est = new SimpleTimeZone(-5 * 60 * 60 * 1000, "EST"); est.setStartRule(Calendar.MARCH, 8, -Calendar.SUNDAY, 2 * 60 * 60 * 1000); est.setEndRule(Calendar.NOVEMBER, 1, Calendar.SUNDAY, 2 * 60 * 60 * 1000); Calendar theCal = new GregorianCalendar(est); theCal.setTimeInMillis(testDateEndOut.getTimeInMillis()); log.info(" Cal date = " + new Timestamp(theCal.getTimeInMillis()) + " : " + theCal.getTimeZone().getDisplayName()); log.info(" Cal use DST = " + theCal.getTimeZone().useDaylightTime()); log.info(" Cal In DST = " + theCal.getTimeZone().inDaylightTime(theCal.getTime())); log.info("offset = " + theCal.getTimeZone().getOffset(theCal.getTimeInMillis())); log.info("DTS offset= " + theCal.getTimeZone().getDSTSavings()); assertEquals("End date Should be In DST", true, theCal.getTimeZone().inDaylightTime(theCal.getTime())); theCal.setTimeInMillis(testDateEndIn.getTimeInMillis()); log.info(" Cal date = " + new Timestamp(theCal.getTimeInMillis()) + " : " + theCal.getTimeZone().getDisplayName()); log.info(" Cal use DST = " + theCal.getTimeZone().useDaylightTime()); log.info(" Cal In DST = " + theCal.getTimeZone().inDaylightTime(theCal.getTime())); log.info("offset = " + theCal.getTimeZone().getOffset(theCal.getTimeInMillis())); log.info("DTS offset= " + theCal.getTimeZone().getDSTSavings()); assertEquals("End date Should be Out DST", false, theCal.getTimeZone().inDaylightTime(theCal.getTime())); theCal.setTimeInMillis(testDateStartIn.getTimeInMillis()); log.info(" Cal date = " + new Timestamp(theCal.getTimeInMillis()) + " : " + theCal.getTimeZone().getDisplayName()); log.info(" Cal use DST = " + theCal.getTimeZone().useDaylightTime()); log.info(" Cal In DST = " + theCal.getTimeZone().inDaylightTime(theCal.getTime())); log.info("offset = " + theCal.getTimeZone().getOffset(theCal.getTimeInMillis())); log.info("DTS offset= " + theCal.getTimeZone().getDSTSavings()); assertEquals("Start date Should be in DST", true, theCal.getTimeZone().inDaylightTime(theCal.getTime())); theCal.setTimeInMillis(testDateStartOut.getTimeInMillis()); log.info(" Cal date = " + new Timestamp(theCal.getTimeInMillis()) + " : " + theCal.getTimeZone().getDisplayName()); log.info(" Cal use DST = " + theCal.getTimeZone().useDaylightTime()); log.info(" Cal In DST = " + theCal.getTimeZone().inDaylightTime(theCal.getTime())); log.info("offset = " + theCal.getTimeZone().getOffset(theCal.getTimeInMillis())); log.info("DTS offset= " + theCal.getTimeZone().getDSTSavings()); assertEquals("Start date Should be Out DST", false, theCal.getTimeZone().inDaylightTime(theCal.getTime())); } } Ok, i want to test the date limits to see if the inDaylightTime return the right thing! So, my rules are : DST start the second sunday of March at 2am DST end the first sunday of november at 2am In 2012 (now) this give us the march 11 at 2am and November 4 at 2am You can see my test dates are set properly!!! Well here is the output of my test run: 2012-11-01 18:22:44,344 INFO [test.SimpleTimeZoneTest] - < Cal date = 2012-11-04 01:59:59.0 : Eastern Standard Time> 2012-11-01 18:22:44,345 INFO [test.SimpleTimeZoneTest] - < Cal use DST = true> 2012-11-01 18:22:44,345 INFO [test.SimpleTimeZoneTest] - < Cal In DST = false> 2012-11-01 18:22:44,345 INFO [test.SimpleTimeZoneTest] - <offset = -18000000> 2012-11-01 18:22:44,345 INFO [test.SimpleTimeZoneTest] - <DTS offset= 3600000> My first assert just fails and tell me that 2012-11-04 01:59:59 is not inDST... !!!!??? If i put 2012-11-04 00:59:59, the test pass! This 1 hour gap just puzzle me... can anyone explain this behavior? Oh, btw, if anyone could elaborate on the : est.setStartRule(Calendar.MARCH, 8, -Calendar.SUNDAY, 2 * 60 * 60 * 1000); Why 8 means second week of march... and the -SUNDAY. I can't figure out this thing on a real calendar example!!! Thanks

  • SPP Socket createRfcommSocketToServiceRecord will not connect

    - by philDev
Hello, I want to use Android 2.1 to connect to an external Bluetooth device, wich is offering an SPP port to me. In this case it is an external GPS unit. When I'm trying to connect I can't connect an established socket while being in the "client" mode. Then if I try to set up a socket (being in the server role), to RECEIVE text from my PC everything works just fine. The Computer can connect as the client to the Socket on the Phone via SPP using the SSP UUID or some random UUID. So the Problem is not that I'm using the wrong UUID. But the other way around (e.g. calling connect on the established client socket) createRfcommSocketToServiceRecord(UUID uuid)) just doesn't work. Sadly I don't have the time to inspect the problem further. It would be greate If somebody could point me the right way. In the following part of the Logfile has to be the Problem. Greets PhilDev P.S. I'm going to be present during the Office hours. Here the log file: 03-21 03:10:52.020: DEBUG/BluetoothSocket.cpp(4643): initSocketFromFdNative 03-21 03:10:52.025: DEBUG/BluetoothSocket(4643): connect 03-21 03:10:52.025: DEBUG/BluetoothSocket(4643): doSdp 03-21 03:10:52.050: DEBUG/ADAPTER(2132): create_device(01:00:00:7F:B5:B3) 03-21 03:10:52.050: DEBUG/ADAPTER(2132): adapter_create_device(01:00:00:7F:B5:B3) 03-21 03:10:52.055: DEBUG/DEVICE(2132): Creating device [address = 01:00:00:7F:B5:B3] /org/bluez/2132/hci0/dev_01_00_00_7F_B5_B3 [name = ] 03-21 03:10:52.055: DEBUG/DEVICE(2132): btd_device_ref(0x10c18): ref=1 03-21 03:10:52.065: INFO/BluetoothEventLoop.cpp(1914): event_filter: Received signal org.bluez.Adapter:DeviceCreated from /org/bluez/2132/hci0 03-21 03:10:52.065: INFO/BluetoothService.cpp(1914): ... • Turning off hibernate logging console output

    - by Jared
I'm using hibernate 3 and want to stop it from dumping all the startup messages to the console. I tried commenting out the stdout lines in log4j.properties but no luck. I've pasted my log file below. Also I'm using eclipse with the standard project structure and have a copy of log4j.properties in both the root of the project folder and the bin folder. ### direct log messages to stdout ### #log4j.appender.stdout=org.apache.log4j.ConsoleAppender #log4j.appender.stdout.Target=System.out #log4j.appender.stdout.layout=org.apache.log4j.PatternLayout #log4j.appender.stdout.layout.ConversionPattern=%d{ABSOLUTE} %5p %c{1}:%L - %m%n ### direct messages to file hibernate.log ### log4j.appender.file=org.apache.log4j.FileAppender log4j.appender.file.File=hibernate.log log4j.appender.file.layout=org.apache.log4j.PatternLayout log4j.appender.file.layout.ConversionPattern=%d{ABSOLUTE} %5p %c{1}:%L - %m%n ### set log levels - for more verbose logging change 'info' to 'debug' ### log4j.rootLogger=warn, stdout #log4j.logger.org.hibernate=info log4j.logger.org.hibernate=debug ### log HQL query parser activity #log4j.logger.org.hibernate.hql.ast.AST=debug ### log just the SQL #log4j.logger.org.hibernate.SQL=debug ### log JDBC bind parameters ### log4j.logger.org.hibernate.type=info #log4j.logger.org.hibernate.type=debug ### log schema export/update ### log4j.logger.org.hibernate.tool.hbm2ddl=debug ### log HQL parse trees #log4j.logger.org.hibernate.hql=debug ### log cache activity ### #log4j.logger.org.hibernate.cache=debug ### log transaction activity #log4j.logger.org.hibernate.transaction=debug ### log JDBC resource acquisition #log4j.logger.org.hibernate.jdbc=debug ### enable the following line if you want to track down connection ### ### leakages when using DriverManagerConnectionProvider ### #log4j.logger.org.hibernate.connection.DriverManagerConnectionProvider=trac5
