Now I want to speed up my search routine for queries like: Are there other active objects in this timeperiod/at this time. Is there any existing temporal index I can use or can I use QuadTree/other tree-structures to search in an efficient way.

  • Extract some data from a lot of xml files

    I have cricket player profiles saved in the form of .xml files in a folder. each file has these tags in it <playerid>547</playerid> <majorteam>England</majorteam> <playername>Don</playername> the playerid is same as in .xml (each file is of different size,1kb to 5kb). These are about 500 files. What i need is to extract the playername, majorteam, and playerid from all these files to a list. I will convert that list to XML later. If you know how can i do it directly to XML i will be very thankful.

    I've got a basic photo album application, on the first view a list of albums is displayed with a subtitle showing how many images are in each album. I've got everything working to add albums, and add images to albums. The problem is that the image count lines are accurate whenever the app loads, but I can't get them to update during execution.     Hi, I have to develop a code which will store a list of objects, as example below 101, value 11, value 12, value 13 ...etc 102, value 21, value 22, value 23 ...etc 103, value 31, value 32, value 33 ...etc 104, value 41, value 42, value 43 ...etc Now, the difficulty is, that first column is an identifier, and whole table should always be sorted by it. Easy access to each element is required. Additionally, list should be easily updated, and extended by adding element at the end as well as in front and still keep being sorted by first column. Finally, I would like to be able to display values of the above in datagridview. What is most important is a performance of the implementation, as rows will be updated many times per second, and datagridview should be able to display all changes immediately. I was thinking about creating class for the values, and then a Dictionary but encountered a problem with displaying values in gridview. What would be the most optimal way of implementing the code?     I bought an IcyBox NAS a little while back, and it recently died on me. I have physical access to the disks inside (1.5TB RAID 1 array), and the box was running a version of Linux. I now have the difficulty of retrieving the data from the disks. All I have available are 2 Windows machines, one of which has sufficient free space to hold the data from the NAS.     Primarily this seems to be a technique used by games, where they have all the sounds in one file, textures in another etc. With these files commonly reaching the GB size. What is the reason behind doing this over maintaining it all in subdirectories as small files - one per texture which many small games use this, with the monolithic system being favoured by larger companies? Is there some file system overhead with lots of small files? Are they trying to protect their property - although most just seem to be a compressed file with a new extension?

    Hi there, I need to match a series of user inputed words against a large dictionary of words (to ensure the entered value exists). So if the user entered: "orange" it should match an entry "orange' in the dictionary. Now the catch is that the user can also enter a wildcard or series of wildcard characters like say "or__ge" which would also match "orange" The key requirements are: * this should be as fast as possible. * use the smallest amount of memory to achieve it. If the size of the word list was small I could use a string containing all the words and use regular expressions. however given that the word list could contain potentially hundreds of thousands of enteries I'm assuming this wouldn't work. So is some sort of 'tree' be the way to go for this...? Any thoughts or suggestions on this would be totally appreciated! Thanks in advance, Matt

    Hi everybody, I have tried for some time to work out a way of sorting nested categories with jQuery. I failed to build my own plugin to do this, so I tried to find something that were available already. What are the alternatives of creating a jQuery / jQuery UI script that handles sorting children and parent categories in a way that can be combined with a AJAX PHP backend to handle the actual sorting in the database?     Im running through a set of DirectX tutorials online and I have the following structure: struct CUSTOMVERTEX { FLOAT x, y, z, rhw; // from the D3DFVF_XYZRHW flag DWORD color; // from the D3DFVF_DIFFUSE flag } My basic understanding of directX leads me to thing tha color is made up of 8-bit alpha, red, green and blue channels. I am attempting to get east access to these channels. Rather than write the following code numerous times (within the CUSTOMVERTEX structure): public: int red() { return (color & 0x00FF0000) >> 16; } I could write a more elegant somution with a combination of a union and a structure e.g. struct CUSTOMVERTEX { FLOAT x, y, z, rhw; // from the D3DFVF_XYZRHW flag #pragma pack(2) union { DWORD color; // from the D3DFVF_DIFFUSE flag struct { char a; char r; char g; char b; }; }; } However this does not appear to function as expected, the values in r, g, & b almost appear the reverse of whats in color e.g. if color is 0x12345678 a = 0x78, r = 0x56. Is this an endieness issue? Also what other problems could I be expecting from this solution? e.g. overflow from the color members? I guess what Im asking is ... is there a better way to do this?!

    I'm developing in PHP and MySQL. The information about the currently logged in user is stored in many different tables. The information that I need on each page, I preload. However if something is needed from a rarely accessed table - then I do $newdata = $db->Query('SELECT * FROM rare_table WHERE user_id='.$user->id); I would like to simplify the above to a point where I don't have to specify that the query should be limited to this particular user. An ideal function call would be: $newdata = $user->Query('SELECT * FROM rare_table'); Obviously I'd have to parse the SQL and add a WHERE clause. Or add to the already existing clause. Questions: are there tools to do this? How can I develop this? Is this even a good idea?
