• Are there no downsides to NetApp SAN solutions other than price?

  We have pretty much decided on a NetApp solution for our first SAN. Given that, I've been tasked with finding as much reason not to go with NetApp as I can. We like to do this A) so we know what we're getting into and B) so we aren't clouded by the inevitable post vendor demo euphoria. I have scoured the internet for cons and can only find one: price. • What solutions do I have to enforce memory limit on PHP server?

  I would like to enforce memory limit on a folder basis (and have it applied on subfolders) but I don't want the user able to change the memory limit. I know I can disable ini_set and I know I can enforce a hard limit or deny ini_set with Suhosin. With the first one, I doubt it will block changing it from the user.ini file, for the second, the user may still be able to change it to the hard limit I enforce with Suhosin. In both cases, I would prefer to not entierly block ini_set because it may have a legit use for other settings. In case it is important, I'm using PHP version 5.4.4 with nginx (PHP in FPM mode)

  Have a question on recursively populating JsTree using the .NET wrapper available via NuGet. I can change the existing node table to suite the logic so feel free to suggest any changes to improve performance.

• Recommendations needed for email server and file sharing solutions.

  I work at a relatively small company, around 30 people and we are now looking into a solution that can handle: File sharing. Email server. Calendar support. Around 30 users. Accessible from external network. Support for Windows XP (and above), Mac OS 10.6.3 and Ubuntu clients. When it comes down to security we don't have the experience to comment on that. I guess the de facto standard is good enough for us. Sorry if this is formulated as a n00b question, because it is. =) Any kind of pointer in the right direction will be appreciated. • How can I debug solutions in Visual Studio 2010 from a network share?

  I've recently got a new Mac laptop and am running VS2010 in a Parallels virtual machine. It's mostly working out well for me, but I'm having some problems with debugging specific project types, related to the fact that the projects are being accessed via a network share. Test projects don't run because the test runner can't load the tests' DLL. Web projects fail to run in the Visual Studio mini web server, throwing the following exception: 'An error occurred loading a configuration file: Failed to start monitoring changes to path\to\web.config'. I've spent the evening trawling the web with little luck on this. After reading these two posts, I tried out the usual CasPol changes, but then found this post from one of the early VS2010 betas indicating that CasPol is no longer needed/supported in .NET 4.0 and VS2010. The network share is accessible via both a mapped drive and the UNC path. The virtual machine runs its applications under the administrator account, which appears to have all the necessary permissions on the network share to create, read, write and delete files and folders. I say "appears to have" as I can't view the Security Properties of the appropriate folder via Explorer: the Security tab just isn't present. Has anyone managed to successfully load and debug web and test projects from a network share in VS2010?

• What configuration management solutions exist in a non-networked environment?

  My servers exist in an environment without outside network connectivity (this is a requirement), so when I deploy updates all packages, binaries, config files, etc. must be included on the delivered media. And of course I want some sort of configuration management so I can tell what has and hasn't been installed. So I was wondering if people had experience with chef, puppet, or another configuration management type tool for dealing with this type of environment. Worst case I deploy my updates as an RPM. EDIT: My setup has both Linux servers and Windows servers.

  My aim is to simply be informative about where a link is pointing to search engines. I have some content that is listed by name and then I have a "Permalink" button. Would it be blackhat SEO to add some hidden text within the anchor that describes where the permalink is pointing? My content is like so: News Item 1 Permalink (<a href="/my-news-item-1"><hidden>News Item 1</hidden> Permalink</a>) Teaser text.. The news title of the block already links to the article, but I think it would be of benefit to users to provide and explicit permalink button.

• What are some good, IP Address Management solutions for IPv6? [closed]

  There are a number of open source IPAM tools available for IPv4 address management; however there seems to be a distinct lack of actively updated tools available for IPv6. Other than FreeIPdb (code no longer maintained) or the RIPE Database (I have seen some customisations to the RIPEdb that allow for enterprise/ISP IPAM but it seems like overkill for a system that will probably only ever handle one /32 worth of space). Are there any other options that I'm missing? (Database only please. I know vi can be used for flat text IPAM, that's how I'm handling our /32 at the moment, but I don't see it scaling for much longer) It doesn't have to be open source but what are folks doing to manage IPv6 in a dual stack environment

• Will search engines discover that our old pages have been 301 redirected if there are no more links to them in the old site?

  We've moved our website to a new domain. Thousands of our pages come from one PHP file in the old site (e.g. oldsite.com/news.php?id=<id>). So we added some code in news.php file to do a 301 redirect to the specific corresponding news article in the new website (newsite.com/news/<id>). We have not yet done a 301 redirect for the root of the old site (so we could display a notice to our users that we've moved), but all links inside it are already 301 redirected. My concern is that, when Google crawls our old website, it will no longer be able to find the old news articles and discover that they have been 301 Redirected -- is this correct? If so, does that mean our PageRank won't be carried over to the new site? I've also read that we would need to create a sitemap for the new site. Is it possible to indicate in the sitemap the old and new locations of specific pages? Because if not, how will Google know? (I'm not sure change of address in Webmaster Tools would be specific enough).

• Gaming Community CMS, with forum integration [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: Which Content Management System (CMS) should I use? I've had a simple website that I coded myself for a while now, the site is a gaming community. It's very forum and news driven. It was a HORRIBLE idea to take on coding this thing myself. Although we've used it for about a year now, we're just getting too big, and I need to streamline our work. I need writers to post news, etc. I've been doing it through code. ( A year ago I thought it would be a cool idea ) Anyway, I've been messing with just about every CMS out there, and I'm struggling to get something that I really like. The main issue I'm facing, is a good news system, and good forum integration. I'm sort of picky when it comes to looks, its a curse. Reading on here, I see a lot of people saying Drupal is the best for the 3 things I need, community interaction, and forums. I think the main issue that I ran into with drupal, was ease of use, and themes. I am not a web designer, and I need a good theme. For an idea of what I'm looking for, go check out http://www.clgaming.net, they have forums integrated, a nice news area on home page/news section, and nice user accounts. It looks very professional, and I doubt I'll get close to that with a free theme, but their functionality is exactly what I need. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

• Embedded Nashorn in JEditorPane

  Here's a prototype for some kind of backoffice content management system. Several interesting goodies are included, such as an embedded JavaScript editor, as can be seen in the screenshot: Key items of interest in the above are as follows: Embedded JavaScript editor (i.e., the latest and greatest Nashorn technology, look it up, if you're not aware of what that is.) The way that's done is to include the relevant JavaScript modules in your NetBeans Platform application. Make very sure to include "Lexer to NetBeans Bridge", which does a bunch of critical stuff under the hood. The JEditorPane is defined as follows, along the lines that I blogged about recently thanks to Steven Yi: javaScriptPane.setContentType("text/javascript"); EditorKit kit = CloneableEditorSupport.getEditorKit("text/javascript"); javaScriptPane.setEditorKit(kit); javaScriptPane.getDocument().putProperty("mimeType", "text/javascript"); Note that "javaScriptPane" above is simply a JEditorPane. Timon Veenstra's excellent solution for integrating Nodes with MultiViewElements, which is described here by Timon, and nowhere else in the world. The tab you see above is within a pluggable container, so anyone else could create a new module and register their own MultiViewElement such that it will be incorporated into the editor. • My fingers are cold when using my computer - solutions?

  This might seem silly, and if there is no good and practical solution... I will live. I am a programmer and sit at a computer 10 hours a day - and even though the rest of me is nice and warm (at least warm), my fingers are cold as ice. Are there some gadgets or tricks to keep your fingers warm while typing/mousing? Gloves do not seem like a good solution, since it hinders the movement of the fingers. I have sometimes put my extra laptop next to the mouse pad, so that it vents hot air on the mouse - and that works... But it is not very practical, plus it only works for one hand (and not very well). Tips?
