• HTTP Error 403.1 - Permissions are fixed, what else is wrong?

  I have developed a HTTP Handler Web Service, and have had it successfully deployed, through testing on other environments i've ran into another problem. This is the error message I receive: You have attempted to execute a CGI, ISAPI, or other executable program from a directory that does not allow programs to be executed. HTTP Error 403.1 - Forbidden: Execute access is denied. Internet Information Services (IIS) So it is obvious what needs to be fixed, so: 1) Start Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager. 2) Right-click the Web site that contains the SharePoint Web site that you created, and then click Properties. 3) Click the Home Directory tab. 4) Under Application settings, click either Scripts only in the Execute permissions list or Scripts and Executables in the Execute permissions list (as appropriate to your situation). Click OK. 5) Quit IIS Manager. But I'm still getting the same error. So what else could be wrong?

• TransactionScope Prematurely Completed

  I have a block of code that runs within a TransactionScope and within this block of code I make several calls to the DB. Selects, Updates, Creates, and Deletes, the whole gamut. When I execute my delete I execute it using an extension method of the SqlCommand that will automatically resubmit the query if it deadlocks as this query could potentially hit a deadlock. I believe the problem occurs when a deadlock is hit and the function tries to resubmit the query. This is the error I receive: The transaction associated with the current connection has completed but has not been disposed. The transaction must be disposed before the connection can be used to execute SQL statements. • How can I build the Boost.Python example on Ubuntu 9.10?

  I am using Ubuntu 9.10 beta, whose repositories contain boost 1.38. I would like to build the hello-world example. I followed the instructions here (http://www.boost.org/doc/libs/1%5F40%5F0/libs/python/doc/tutorial/doc/html/python/hello.html), found the example project, and issued the "bjam" command. I have installed bjam and boost-build. • How can "today's date" be varied for unit testing purposes?

  I use VS2008 targetting .NET 2.0 Framework, and, just in case, no I can't change this :) I have a DateCalculator class. Its method GetNextExpirationDate attempts to determine the next expiration, internally using DateTime.Today as a baseline date. As I was writing unit tests, I realized that I wanted to test GetNextExpirationDate for different 'today' dates. What's the best way to do this? Here are some alternatives I've considered: Expose a property/overloaded method with argument baselineDate and only use it from the unit test. In actual client code, disregard the property/overloaded method in favour of the method that defaults baselineDate to DateTime.Today. I'm reluctant to do this as it makes the public interface of the DateCalculator class awkward. Create a protected field called baselineDate that is internally set to DateTime.Today. When testing, derive a DateCalculatorForTesting from DateCalculator and set baslineDate via the constructor. It keeps the public interface clean, but still isn't great - baselineDate was made protected and a derived class is required, both solely for testing. Use extension methods. I tried this after adding the ExtensionAttribute, then realized it wouldn't work because extension methods can't access private/protected variables. I initially thought this was really quite an elegant solution. :( I'd be interested in hearing what others think.

  I am looking setting up a deployment process for a highly customised Magento site, and was wondering how other people do this. I will be setting up dev, UAT and prod environments. All the Magento files will be in source control (SVN). At this stage, I can't see any requirements for changing the DB, so the 3 databases will be manually maintained. Specifically, How do you apply Magento upgrades? (Individually in each env, or on dev then roll out, or just give up on upgrades?) What files/folders do leave alone in each environment (e.g. magento/app/etc/local.xml) Do you restrict developers to editing specific files/folders? Do you restrict theme designers to editing specific files/folders? How do you manage database changes? Theme Designer Files/Folders Designers can restricted to editing the following folders- app/design/frontend/your_interface/your_theme/layout/ app/design/frontend/your_interface/your_theme/template/ app/design/frontend/your_interface/your_theme/locale/ skin/frontend/your_interface/your_theme/ Extension Developer Files/Folders Extension developers can edit the following folders/files- /app/code/local /app/etc/modules/<Namespace>_<Module>.xml Database environment management As the store's base URL is stored in the database, you cannot just copy databases between environments. • IIS errors since upgrading to dot net 4

  Back in October we upgraded one of our sites (on IIS 6) from .net 3.5 to .net 4.0. Since then we have been getting the following warning and error pretty much everyday: Warning: ISAPI 'c:\windows\microsoft.net\framework\v4.0.30319\aspnet_isapi.dll' reported itself as unhealthy for the following reason: 'Deadlock detected'. Error: It is not possible to run two different versions of ASP.NET in the same IIS process. Please use the IIS Administration Tool to reconfigure your server to run the application in a separate process. We have checked all applications and ensured that they are running on the correct versions of ASP.NET and also in their own separate app pools. We have looked at the IIS logs at the time the errors are recorded but this doesn't give any clues as to the issue. Is there a tool available that could give us more information as as to which application is causing the errors and what was happening at the time?

• How do I consume a COM+ local server from C#?

  I have a web application from a company that has gone out of business. We're looking to extend the web app a bit with some asp.net functionality. The web app was written as an ISAPI application in Delphi, and uses COM+ to talk to the SQL Server and handles things like session management and authentication. So, in order to get the current user and other details, I have to use the undocument COM+ components. I was able to dig out the type library and auto generated IDL, but at this point i'm lost in creating a .NET proxy class for this. Is there a way to autogenerate the .net COM+ proxy either from the .dll itself (extracting the typelib info) or from the IDL? Note: These seem to be simple COM style objects hosted in COM+ servers, no subscriptions or transaction monitoring..

• Using CURL within a loop to download a file, 1st one works, 2nd one times out

  Morning all, I am using CURL to download an image file within a loop. The first time it runs fine and I see the image appear in the directory. The second time it fails with a timeout, despite it being a valid URL. Can anyone suggest why it always fails on the 2nd time and how to fix it?   Summary: I want to know if it is possible to do something like this: {a: 'A',b: this.a} ...by using some other pointer like {a: 'A',b: self.a} or {a: 'A',b: own.a} or anything else... Full question: I'm trying to extend MyBaseModule using Ext.extend, and need to cross-reference values in the extension object passed to Ext.extend(). Since I'm not yet in context of MyModule, I'm not able to use this to reference the object (See example below line 12).   WARNING! THIS IS ABOUT A VIRUS ON MY SITE. IT APPEARS IT HAS BEEN THERE FOR SOMETIME AND I'VE HAD NO PROBLEMS. BUT PLEASE BE CAREFUL. READ EVERYTHING I SAY AND SEE IF YOU CAN HELP ME WITHOUT VISITING THE LINK. AVG PICKS UP ON IT AND BLOCKS IT, MCAFEE DOES NOT. Sorry about the warning, obviously i'm not here to get anyone infected or anything like that. Basically I run the website sortitoutsi dot net. Ages ago I got a virus on my computer, they got hold of my FTP passwords and added some lines of javascript to the top of my site. I removed them and believe it was fixed. However i'm using the "Web Developer" extension for Firefox and chose to view all javascript on my page and find there are various links to horrible urls such as: gittigidiyor-com.excite.co.jp.webmasterworld-com.eastmusicdirect.ru:8080/aboutus.org/aboutus.org/google.com/skycn.com/torrents.ru.php and gittigidiyor-com.excite.co.jp.webmasterworld-com.eastmusicdirect.ru:8080/index.php?jl= These terms do not appear anywhere. In the source code, in any of the javascript or the css. I also can't see that there are any rogue images that I don't recognise either. So i've no idea where this javascript is coming from. Can anyone suggest how I can find references to these links and remove them? I can see them both in the Web Developer firefox extension and in the net tab using Firebug. Any help would be greatly appreciated

• How to detect if a file is PDF or TIFF ?

  Please bear with me as I've been thrown into the middle of this project without knowing all the background. If you've got WTF questions, trust me, I have them too. Here is the scenario: I've got a bunch of files residing on an IIS server. They have no file extension on them. Just naked files with names like "asda-2342-sd3rs-asd24-ut57" and so on. Nothing intuitive. The problem is I need to serve up files on an ASP.NET (2.0) page and display the tiff files as tiff and the PDF files as PDF. Unfortunately I don't know which is which and I need to be able to display them appropriately in their respective formats. For example, lets say that there are 2 files I need to display, one is tiff and one is PDF. The page should show up with a tiff image, and perhaps a link that would open up the PDF in a new tab/window. The problem: As these files are all extension-less I had to force IIS to just serve everything up as TIFF. But if I do this, the PDF files won't display. I could change IIS to force the MIME type to be PDF for unknown file extensions but I'd have the reverse problem. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/326965 Is this problem easier than I think or is it as nasty as I am expecting?

• Paperclip failing to upload on specific scaffold, yet works on others

  I know there are tons of questions about paperclip, but I failed to find the answer to my problem. I know its prob just something simple, but I I'm running out of hair to pull out. I have paperclip working on other parts of my project, they work with no problem, however, a certain scaffold fails to upload, all the attributes to the uploaded file are nil. Here are the relevant information. Model: has_attached_file :foo, :styles => { :thumb => "140x140>" }, :url => "/data/:id/:style/:basename.:extension", :path => ":rails_root/public/data/:id/:style/:basename.:extension" View: <% form_for(@bar, :html => { :multipart => true }) do |f| %> <%= f.error_messages %> ---------- <li><%= f.label :top %> <%= f.file_field :foo %></li> ---------- <ul><%= f.submit "Save" %></ul> <% end %> Also, comparing the logs to the parts that work, the :foo attribute seems to be passing different values than in the ones that work. In the logs, when the paperclip function works, it looks like this "image"=>#<File:/var/folders/M5/M5HEb+WhFxmqNDGH5s-pNE+++TI/-Tmp-/RackMultipart20100512-1302-5e2e6e-0> when it does not, it seems to pass the file name directly "foo"=>"foo_image.png" I am developing locally on MacOSX using local rails and ruby libs.

• MSBuild / PowerShell: Copy SQL Server 2012 database to SQL Azure via BACPAC (for Continuous Integration)

  I'm creating a continuous integration MSBuild script which copies a database in on-premise SQL Server 2012 to SQL Azure. Easy right? Methods After a fair bit of research I've come across the following methods: Use PowerShell to access the DAC library directly, then use the MSBuild PowerShell extension to wrap the script. This would require installing PowerShell 3 and working out how to make the MSBuild PowerShell extension work with it, as apparently MS moved the DAC API to a different namespace in the latest version of the library. PowerShell would give direct access to the API, but may require quite a bit of boilerplate. Use the sample DAC Framework Client Side Tools, which requires compiling them myself, as the downloads available from Codeplex only include the Hosted version. It would also require fixing them to use DAC 3.0 classes as they appear to currently use an earlier version of DAC. I could then call these tools from an <Exec Command="" /> in the MSBuild script. Less boilerplate and if I hit any bumps in the road I can just make changes to the source. Processes Using whichever method, the process could be either: Export from on-premise SQL Server 2012 to local BACPAC Upload BACPAC to blog storage Import BACPAC to SQL Azure via Hosted DAC Or: Export from on-premise SQL Server 2012 to local BACPAC Import BACPAC to SQL Azure via Client DAC Question All of the above seems to be quite a lot of effort for something that seems to be a standard feature... so before I start reinventing the wheel and documenting the results for all to see, is there something really obvious that I've missed here? Is there pre-written script that MS has released that I have not yet uncovered? There's an command in the GUI of SQL Server Management Studio 2012 that does EXACTLY what I'm trying to do (right click on local database, click "Tasks", click "Deploy Database to SQL Azure"). Surely if it's a few clicks in the GUI it must be a single command on the command line somewhere??

  I am working on deploying the WAR file to AWS using Maven. I am planning to use 'mvn deploy' for the same which would ssh the war file to AWS. I am following http://maven.apache.org/plugins/maven-deploy-plugin/examples/deploy-ssh-external.html. This is my POM file <project> ... <distributionManagement> <repository> <id>ssh-aws</id> <url>scpexe://<ec2 instance>.compute-1.amazonaws.com</url> </repository> </distributionManagement> <build> <extensions> <!-- Enabling the use of FTP --> <extension> <groupId>org.apache.maven.wagon</groupId> <artifactId>wagon-ssh-external</artifactId> <version>1.0-beta-6</version> </extension> </extensions> </build> .. </project> This is my settings.xml <server> <id>ssh-aws</id> <username>aws-user</username> </server> The only issue is that I am unable to figure out the url in distributionManagement node of pom.xml. I am able to ssh in the AWS server by the following. ssh -i ~/pemfile/pemfile-key.pem aws-user@<ec2 instance>.compute-1.amazonaws.com But when I run mvn clean deploy, I receive this.. How can I get the original name of the file (I'm more interested in the original extension) The important things here are: The url actually redirects to image so i cant get it from original url the final url does not have the file name in headers

  Hi: I am using myXmlDataDoc.DataSet.ReadXml(xml_file_name, XmlReadMode.InferSchema); to populate the tables within the dataset created by reading in a xml schema using: myStreamReader = new StreamReader(xsd_file_name); myXmlDataDoc.DataSet.ReadXmlSchema(myStreamReader); The problems I am facing is when it comes to read the xml tag: The readXml function puts the element in a different table and everything in the tables are 0s. • Problem with dictionary key in Python

  Hi all, For some project I have to make a dictionary in which the keys are urls,among which I have this url: http://www.microsoft.com/isapi/redir.dll prd=windows&sbp=mediaplayer&ar=Media&sba=Guide&pver=6.2 the url is too long to fit in here I guess in one single line. there is a space between .dll and prd. I can build a dictionary without any errors this url is also a key. but for some reason when I want to extract the values associated to this key(url). I cannot, I get and error "error key:...." Does someone know what is wrong with this url? Are dictionary keys sensitive to some stuff? thanks

• URL Rewriting for user accounts

  We currently have domain.com/username redirected to domain.com/setsession.asp?u=username which then redirects to the app at domain.com/theapp. This means users always see domain.com/theapp, so browsing to a page shows domain.com/theapp/somepage.asp Looking to move this to subdomains ie username.domain.com (we'll get the host name and work out the user from that). How can this be set up? Should we move the app itself to say theapp.domain.com and then rewrite username.domain.com to theapp.domain.com and everything works? If thats right, how can we do the URL rewrite (mod_rewrite via ISAPI Rewrite for IIS or URL Rewriting for IIS) so that we can still access webmail.domain.com, etc?

I do not want to be the default handler for .jpg, I would just like to extend the "Open with" menu with a link to my app. I see HKCR\.jpg\OpenWithList\ and HKCR\.jpg\OpenWithProgIds\ in the registry but I am not sure whether to write to these and how to do it correctly with WiX. Should I use something like this? <ProgId Id='??what here?' • Ruby on Rails, PHP or C++ for web social network

  Hello, I have chosen diploma work in university. It's a mini social network. But now I am really stuck with which technology I should stick. I am average at C++ ISAPI web services development, below average PHP(had few projects with it) and new to Ruby and its framework RAILS. I have a deadline 1.5 month to develop it(about 5 hours every day after my full time job). Also I heard that its very easy to learn and develop with Ruby on Rails. Considering C++ I know that I have to do lots of coding and work by myself and PHP looks almost the same to me. So I am looking for you skilled developers advise what would you do in my position? Learn RoR, stick with C++ or PHP or maybe use something else?
