Django, javascript and code ruse problem

Hi, I have some sort of a design problem with my Django AJAX application. I have a template where I initialize js variable from django context variable like so: var test = "{{ test }}"; This variable is than used in a number of js functions that are needed for interface to work properly. So now I'm trying to reuse some content from this page in another page that loads it dynamically on some user interaction using jQuery.load(..), and I don't see any way how I can initialize that variable, so js functions don't work now. Is there any solution for this or may be I'm doing it wrong? Thanks.

Controlling a browser from Python

I am looking for a way to control a browser from Python, i.e. fill out form fields and submit them, possibly call JS functions. I've looked around a bit, but as far as I could see PyWebKitGtk only lets you show the browser as a GUI element, not interface with it. Is there a way to do this easily? I wrote my program logic in Python, and I would hate to port it to JS. Besides that, even if I'd use pure JS "bookmarklets", those wouldn't be able to read/write to my local filesystem, would they? P.S. to quell your suspicions, I'm not trying to automatically fill out forum account creation forms or something similarly spammious, though the task is technically similar. I need to crawl/scrape sites for my research project.

Using Components.utils.import in a firefox extension

I am trying to create some global variables in a firefox extension. In my content folder, I have two javascript files: 1) Main JS file that holds the functions for the different events, etc 2) A file that stores only an object with the pieces of state I want to maintain. Also, I set the array EXPORTED_SYMBOLS. I am having issues with the following line found in my main JS file: Components.utils.import("resource:///globalVariables.js"); When it is at the top of the file, nothing seems to work. If I move it into the function where I need the variable, the rest of my code works, but the function with this line does nothing. Any advice that would help me with this problem would be great. But when I try to inject the same JS into the page url via setting the location.href it does not work the right way , rather it replaces the existing page with a new iframe. Special character in "entrée" cannot be displayed correctly if defined in a separate javascript file

Example: The following string is defined in a json.js file. var test = "One complimentary entrée with the purchase of an entrée."; It is included in an index.html file by <script type="text/JavaScript" src="./json.js"></script> When the string is displayed in UI, it shows up as "One complimentary entr?e with the purchase of an entr?e." But if string is defined directly in the index.html, then it is not a problem. Can anyone suggest a solution on how to keep the text in the separate .js file?

How do I make my horizontally scrolling page work in IE?

I am using a horizontal scroll for a page on my website ~ works great in FF but not in IE, how can i get it to work in IE? Here is the JS that I have in the head of my html: <script src="js/jquery-1.2.6.min.js" type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8"></script> <script type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8"> $(function(){ $("#page-wrap").wrapInner("<table><tr>"); $(".post").wrap("<td>"); });</script> There is also of course the other script file, but its huge so I'm not going to post it here. JSON.stringify() supported by IE 8?

I need to use: JSON.stringify() which should be supported by chrome, safari, and FF (I think). I think IE8 also has support for the JSON object. I think IE7 and 6 do not, so I'm doing this:  so, I think this will import the external javascript only if IE6 & 7. I looked at the url where the script is hosted, they are including only if the IE version is less than 9: http://code.google.com/p/html5shiv/  so should I be including this for IE 8 too? Starting an ASP.NET MVC 4 project. Is it necessary to use RequireJS if I'm using bundling?

If RequireJS makes it so that multiple js files are combined into a single main.js file, is it essentially the same as ASP.NET's script bundling functionality? Would the only bonus of using RequireJS in addition to bundling be the ability to have certain scripts be loaded according to RequireJS configuration? I'm very new to both bundling and RequireJS, but after doing some reading, it seems like bundling takes care of multiple requests to load several js files. Are there any other things I might be missing out on with regards to using RequireJS with bundling?

javascript not loading after output of PHP file_get_contents() string

I have the following structure: -uploadpage.html -index.php -resources -jquery.1.4.2.min.js On my index.php, I get the contents then output uploadpage.html through this code: $output = file_get_contents("uploadpage.html"); echo $output; My upload.html has the javascript at the bottom: <script type="text/javscript" src="./resources/jquery-1.4.2.min.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready( function() { callSomething(); } ); function callSomething() {return true;} </script> However this results in an error "$ is not defined" which means that the jquery js file is not loaded. Any ideas?

Postback of delimited text from javascript and parsing on server side

In my ASP.NET page, I have a Javascript object, like this: var args = new Object(); args.Data1 = document.getElementById("Data1").value; args.Data2 = document.getElementById("Data2").value; args.Data3 = document.getElementById("Data3").value; The object is populated on client side using user input data. I am passing the data to a C# method, through an Ajax request: someObj.AjaxRequest(argsData1 + "|" + argsData2 + "|" + argsData3) Finally, I need to obtain the data in my C# code: string data1 = [JS args.Data1] string data2 = [JS args.Data2] string data3 = [JS args.Data3] My question is what's the best solution for this? As i am concatenating bits of user input, I don't think it's best to use "|" as a delimiter. Also, it's not clear to me how to actually parse the data in my C# code to populate the three variables with the original data.

Can I put google map functions into a closure?

I am trying to write some google map functionlity and playing around with javascript closures with an aim to try organise and structure my code better. I have the following code: var gmapFn ={ init : function(){ if (GBrowserIsCompatible()) { this.mapObj = new GMap2($("#map_canvas")); this.mapObj.setCenter(new google.maps.LatLng(51.512880,-0.134334),16); } } } Then I call it later in a jquery doc ready: $(document).ready(function() { gmapFn.init(); }) I have set up the google map keys and but I get an error on the main.js : uncaught exception: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE)" nsresult: "0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE)" location: "JS frame :: http://maps.gstatic.com/intl/en_ALL/mapfiles/193c/maps2.api/main.js :: ig :: line 170" data: no] QO() THe error seems to be thrown at the GBrowserIsCompatible() test which I beieve is down to me using this closure, is there a way to keep it in an closure and get init() working?

I am trying to get the value of base_path variable in PHP (on lamp server) . I have kept the code insider beta_test directory inside www directly. i.e, base path function should return " /beta_test/ " . But it is returning just single slash ( "/" ) . Is putting the javascript before the closing body tag okay on an asp.net website?

I pretty much stated what I have to ask. But is taking all of your external .js files and putting them before the closing body tag on your master pages okay on an asp.net website? I'm just going off of what yslow and google speed have been showing. I can't combine these javascripts, so I'm trying to load them "after page load", but doing so makes them useless; some of my jquery things don't work. I moved my .js files above the opening body tag, and they work. What am I doing wrong? And what could I do to load my .js files after page load? Thanks for any advice anybody can offer!

Detect EXIF Orientation of an image in javascript

In my mobile web application, I have a need to examine the EXIF orientation tag of an image file selected using an input type=file control, and this needs to be done on the client side in javascript, before the selected image file gets uploaded to the server. I have seen several threads similar to this but most of them say to use a library called binaryajax.js to be able to access the EXIF data from the file object. Unfortunately, simply including binaryajax.js in my project causes an Access Denied error in jQuery 1.7.1, and I have no idea why this is happening. This error precludes me from using this jquery library. So I am looking for a solution that does not use this library. Another library I have tried to use is jquery.exif.js and I also get an Access Denied Error Trying to use it.

regex to match specific html tags

I need to match html tags(the whole tag), based on the tag name. For script tags I have this: <script.+src=.+(\.js|\.axd).+(</script>|>) It correctly matches both tags in the following html: <script src="Scripts/JScript1.js" type="text/javascript" /> <script type="text/javascript" src="Scripts/JScript2.js" /> However, when I do link tags with the following: <link.+href=.+(\.css).+(</link>|>) It matches all of this at once(eg it returns one match containing both items): <link href="Stylesheets/StyleSheet1.css" rel="Stylesheet" type="text/css" /> <link href="Stylesheets/StyleSheet2.css" rel="Stylesheet" type="text/css" /> What am I missing here? The regexes are essentially identical except for the text to match to? Also, I know that regex is not a great tool for HTML parsing...I will probably end up using the HtmlAgilityPack in the end, but this is driving me nuts and I want an answer if only for my own mental health!

Is it the filename or the whole URL used as a key in browser caches?

It's common to want browsers to cache resources - JavaScript, CSS, images, etc. until there is a new version available, and then ensure that the browser fetches and caches the new version instead. One solution is to embed a version number in the resource's filename, but will placing the resources to be managed in this way in a directory with a revision number in it do the same thing? Is the whole URL to the file used as a key in the browser's cache, or is it just the filename itself and some meta-data? If my code changes from fetching '/r20/example.js' to '/r21/example.js', can I be sure that revision 20 of example.js was cached, but now revision 21 has been fetched instead and it is now cached?

Display errorList and showErrors in html page.

I am having application.html where I used jquery.validate.js and it works fine and submit my data to process.php. But I want if there is an error generated by jquery.validate.js then I know the how many errors generated by validate.js in application.php. I am going to implement if there are number of errors generated then uploading function will be disable. If there is no error generated then uploading function will work. Possibly simple PHP/MYSQL issue with retrieving and showing data

I have been racking my brains over this for a while now. Here is the data i have in the sql data base as an example: ID | TYPE | DATA 1 | TXT | TEST 2 | PHP | php 3 | JS | JAVASCRIPT That is just an example, there are multiple listing for TXT, PHP and JS throughout the table. What I want to do is retrive all the data and display it all into separate drop down/select boxes. Meaning, select box one would list all data with type TXT, select box two would list all data with type PHP and select box 3 would list all data with type JS. The only way I have came about doing this is doing individual sql queries for each different type. I know there is a way to do it all in 1 query and then display it the way I want to but I just can't seem to figure out how and I know its going to drive me nuts when someone helps and I see just how they did it. Can I use a HTML/JS/CSS - C# combination with event handlers and all? Something like ASP.NET Webforms/MVC . I know it is not the same client server architecture, but since metro styled apps support HTML/JS, I was wondering. I can use Win-JS. But can I rather write C# than Javascript, and use HTML rather than XAML?(I dont know XAML and I like C#) All the C# samples I found online use XAML.

Hello, Can I pass some Javascript to a function and then execute that Javascript from within the function, e.g. test("a = 1; b = 2; test2(a,b);"); function test(js) { // execute dynamically generated JS here. } Basically I have some code that is generated on the server and I want to pass that code to a JS function which when it has finished processing it executes the code passed as a parameter. This could also be useful for the parameter of setTimeout, then the code passed could be executed in the timeout event. Can this be done?
