    Hello! I'm developing a WinForm application for Windows Mobile 5.0 and above, using C#, .NET Compact Framework 2.0 SP2. This application uses Web Services and I've found the Disconnected Service Agent from the patterns and practices group at Microsoft, because I want to deal with disconnected eviroments. Is there any other software to deal with web services connections on disconnected enviroments? Thank you!

The MSDN documentation for this namespace doesn't give much information compared to the documentation on other .Net classes. Where can I get more informations about this namespaces (examples, complete documentation, etc.). I already searched on Google and SO but didn't much information.

    Why Microsoft.Practices.ServiceLocation.IServiceLocator does not offer TryGetInstance()? I need to get generic validator instance ServiceLocator.Current.GetInstance<IEntityValidator<TEntity>>() but not all Entities has registered validator. The only solution i found is to use try{}catch{} block, but i dont like this approach.

  • Choosing a non microsoft language for web development?

    I am resonably experienced with asp.net and would like to learn a new language with a focus on web development. Licensing and hosting costs are why I would like to use something not reliant on microsoft so something based on open source technologies is a plus. I have had a tiny bit of experience with php and did not like it but I guess I could be convinced otherwise. Basically I'd like to know peoples opinion on the the best language for future web development with regards to longivity, resources, frameworks, hosting etc.

    Hi, im connecting to dBase from java with this string: String url="jdbc:odbc:DRIVER={Microsoft dBase Driver (*.dbf)};DBQ="+databasePath+";DefaultDir="+databasePath+";DriverId=533;FIL=dBase IV;MaxBufferSize=2048;PageTimeout=5;"; Work fine, but with a SELECT statement i can retrieve only record that are not "deleted". In dBase database deletet record are only flagged deleted, so i want retrive deleted record too. Is this possibile? Thank.

    I need to create a Microsoft Access database, but have a need, in one of my tables, for a single field to be strongly encrypted. Since AES requires both a key and an initialization vector, I've decided to solve this problem by requiring a password to access the database (as the key), and a field in the table to hold a SHA1 hash of the plaintext of the encrypted field. Does anyone know where I can find VBA-compatible code to actually do the encryption?

  • Count words like Microsoft Word does

    I need to count words in a string using PHP or Javascript (preferably PHP). The problem is that the counting needs to be the same as it works in Microsoft Word, because that is where the people assemble their original texts in so that is their reference frame. PHP has a word counting function (http://php.net/manual/en/function.str-word-count.php) but that is not 100% the same as far as I know. Any pointers?
