• Accessing network resources via vpn connection failes

  I already found some information on this problem here, but I still can't get it to work. Im trying to access some network resources on my server via vpn over the net. Im using a win7 home pc here and a win server 2008 rc2 with installed ras&routing role on the server. For vpn authentication I use a local user on the server with vpn-access. This user also has the rights to access to the network resources, but it neither finds the server under network nor is it able to connect the network drives... In similar topics here I found out that using the same credentials for vpn-authentication and network resources access does not work, but using different user for access didn't work either. All of these examples I found were in an active directory structure, but I don't have an active directory here. Does anyone know how to solve this problem without having to use an active directory? • Network connection keeps dropping - bad hardware?

  Hello all, I've into a bit of a wall with a client of mine. In an office of 20 people, he is the only one who experiences broken connections to his mapped network drives. I have everyone set up with about 6 mapped drives, all pointing to the same server (no DFS), and everyone else can access them lightning fast. The environment consists of a mix of Windows 7 and XP machines, all 32-bit. The server holding the data everyone is mapping to is running on Server 2008 R2, and is a domain controller. We recently swapped out their old 10/100 switch for a shiny new Dell PowerConnect gigabit switch. We have also replaced an old dying Sonicwall with a shiny new one. Everything is running on an ESX host except for the DC, where everyone is getting data from. In my client's office, we have done the following: Swapped out his computer (Win7 and XP box) Swapped out the desktop switch in his office Removed the desktop switch in his office Changed out the network cable going to the wall Ran 'net config server /autodisconnect:-1' on the server Disabled remote differential compression on his current Win7 box When we swapped out his network cable, everything seemed fine for about 4 days. Normally I would get a phone call a couple times per day letting me know that Outlook has crashed (there is a 9GB PST living on the server he is always connected to), or that his software he is running from his L drive has crashed. I almost thought I had this solved, but after we rebooted the DC the other night he all of a sudden couldn't stay connected to his mapped network drives for more than 10 minutes. When I ran 'net use' from the command prompt, it listed all the network drives where were randomly in a state of 'OK', 'Disconnected', or 'Reconnecting'. What else should I try? Maybe there is bad wiring in the wall, patch panel, or a bad port in the new switch I have in the server room?

• Speeding up Connection Between Computer and Wireless/Bridged Router

  Hey everyone, I looked through other questions, but didn't find useful responses. Our main computer has a dl speed of 6 Mbps, but some of our other computers are getting only 40-200 Kb! The router is wireless, but all computers are connected using a Netgear Wall-Plugged Bridge XE102, which transmits information via the building's powerline. It can't be the hardware itself, however, because some computers still manage decent speeds. The computers afflicted are running on Microsoft XP Service Packs 2 and 3, but so are computers that are totally functional. These speeds severely impede on productivity and are excruciatingly frustrating when trying to cram in time in the early hours. Could it be an issue with the computer? Location? Router? • Remote desktop connection drops before login can appear

  Hi Everyone, Someone asked this question a few months ago and I have the exact same problem. I have tried all of the suggested solutions in the other posting (in particular reinstalling the video card on the server), but have not had any luck. I have gone through this troubleshooting guide in detail with no results: http://theillustratednetwork.mvps.org/RemoteDesktop/RemoteDesktopSetupandTroubleshooting.html I have a client with Remote Desktop enabled that I can't connect to in our local network. When I enter in the machine ip/port in the connect box and hit Connect, it briefly gives the normal "Connecting..." dialog box. However, after 2 seconds it just drops. No error message, nothing. Just disappears as if nothing was happening. •Windows XP SP3 •Windows firewall is open for 3389TCP •Machine is on a domain •RDP is enabled in My Computer •User is a local admin I have loads of other machines on the same domain with the same GPO that work fine. Any ideas?

• Thomson router reboots unexpectedly with an apparent remote connection attempt

  I've got a weird problem. Every so often my rooter (a Thomson TG585 v8 running version 8.2.7.8 of it's firmware) reboots itself. It seems to be associated with this message in the event log: FIREWALL replay check (1 of 2): Protocol: ICMP Src ip: 183.178.144.177 Dst ip: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx Type: Destination Unreachable Code: Host Unreacheable xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is my external IP address 183.178.144.177 resolves to 183178144177.ctinets.com We've got a student from Hong Kong staying with us at the moment and the reboots seem coincidental with him starting up his laptop. I say this because a check on ctinets.com shows it to be based in Hong Kong, though our guest's laptop doesn't appear to have any software related to this company installed. I say "apparently" as he is running the Chinese version of Windows and his English doesn't cover technical subjects like this. I know this is an incoming message but I was assuming that it was in response to something on the student's laptop which is why the first thought was malware, but we've got anti virus on all the other machines and have run malwarebytes on his with a negative result so I don't think the problem is due to a virus or (known) trojan. What else can I do to stop this and identify the cause?

  We have SBS 2003, and we use DYNDNS. We forward dyndns address 443 to local server ip 443 port. mycompany.dyndns.org:443 -- server.mycompany.local:443 In android phone i can check my mails with Outlook Active Snyc. From remote machine i can check my mails in owa (https://mycompany.dyndns.org/exchange) But i can't set up outlook 2013 to remote connect. I installed server.mycompany.local to remote machine trusted cert container, but i got error message: "There is a problem with the proxy server's security certificate. The name on the security certificate is invalid or does not match the name of the target site. Outlook is unable to connect to the proxy server. (Error Code 10)" Is it possible to connect exchange, via dnydns? Whats the problem? Thank you

• LAN connection suddenly domain_not_set.invalid

  I went to work today - internet fine as always. Came back, dreaded yellow triangle. I can connect wirelessly like i am now on my tablet. Thats completely fine. But through LAN I get the domain_not_set.Invalid message if I renew my IP for example. It seems I just don't have a DNS. But I have literally not touched anything no ones even been in the house. Hows that happen? Any help on why only wireless works would be great, I am gonna buy a wireless adapter tomorrow for the interim but I would like to know why. Thanks.

• How to forward connection from one interface to another under linux

  Hi, I have linux box which has two network interface, eth0, eth1. from eth1 I can access an internal website, say under port 8080. from outside the box, I can't access that network. my question is, is there a way I set up something so from outside the box, there appears to be a web server running in port 8080 and when I connect to it, it automatically forwards to eht1 the internal site? I tried to enable ip forward and add a static route, but it doesn't work. thanks.

But i couldnt make it up !!! i have installed xampp using xamppinstaller.exe and its version is 3.1.0. i am heidisql Gui for database managament i tried the same by changing the # bind-address from "127.0.0.1" to my system ip address as # bind-address to "192.168.1.69" After changing and restarting my xampp mysql i went to other system and tried to login (hedisql) with the hostname 192.168.1.69 and it gave me an error saying Error 1130(0000): host' ....' is not allowed to connect to this mysql server. what should i do please help me !!

• Multiple Remote Desktop Connection in Windows Server 2003?

  My company is transitioning all user PC's to Windows 7 64-Bit in anticipation of the 2014 cutoff for Windows XP support. So far everything has been going great except for one specific piece of software that will not run in Windows 7. The current plan is to give everyone a cheap secondary PC to run this software but I feel that's a little much for software that's not even used all the time, although it is essential. I've suggested we install virtual machines but the company does not want to pay for the XP licences. I have access to a copy of Windows Server 2003 that is no longer being used and I was wondering if it was possible to create a remote desktop server. I know it can be done on a one-to-one basis, but this is a 15 person helpdesk. I'd like to be able to support multiple remote dekstop sessions, each with their own logins and dekstops. Is this possible? Are there any other alternatives to my issue? FYI, I've been told that XP mode is only free for consumers. There are costs when used in a corporate environment.

• USB connection issue

  Currently Im facing an issue when Im trying to connect any usb flash drive to my pc. ok, below is what happens to me: 1) I can connect usb keyboard and mouse without any issue. 2) however when i connect usb flash drive, there are 2 situations that are occuring randomly a) there is no usb drive mount in my computer, when device manager is checked, it shows error code 10, but is shown in disk management. b) my computer will have usb drive mounted, but when I click on it, it is empty. on right click the properties, the disk space show 0. (there are files within the usb) what i have done is: 1) run CCleaner to repair the registry, restart and try, but still not working. 2) uninstall the drive in device manager, restart and try, but still not working. 3) tried the port that connects mouse and keyboard, but does not work. anyone who experienced these problems before please guide me. any suggestions or solutions would be greatly appreciated.   First, sorry for my english and my poor knowlodge of this subject. I have a dedicated server placed in Germany (windows 2008 R2) and I live in spain. I would like to access internet from my home computer (Windows 7 Pro x64), trough my server in Germany, so I can use a German IP, what I need some times. I have complete acces in to both computers, but I just don't know where to start. • Simulating network latency for localhost connection on Windows 7

  I need to simulate network latency to a program running on the local computer, connecting to a local service. Thus far I have tried dummynet (a windows build of ipfw) which I got working after some trial and error. While it generally works, I can't seem to get it to filter localhost traffic. Even after adding a rule from any to any which affects external traffic, this makes no difference for local connections. I would appreciate if anyone knows how to simulate local latency using dummynet or a different tool. The tool should be able to simulate latency generically in IP packets, (TCP and UDP) and not be protocol specific.

• TS connection lost but not local

  I have an office that is connected to a shared db server and terminal services server, that other offices use as well, through a vpn tunnel. For some reason all workstations in the office will lose connectivity to the remote address but will remain connected to their local internet. I have checked both firewalls to ensure all settings match accordingly. They seem to go down at routine times every day and it doesn't last longer than a minute or two. Any ideas of what this may be? • DSL Connection drops

  Ok, I just moved so I had to switch from Cable to DSL. I know very little about computers or internet connections and such, so I had AT&T come out to the new house to set up their highest speed. When they got here, they told me that I needed to downgrade to 3.5mbps because I was too far away. Well we did and everything was going great for two days until I started experiencing random disconnects which have been happening now for about 2 to 3 weeks. I am using a N300 Wireless Dual Band ADSL2+ Modem Router and my ethernet cable is hooked directly into my computer from it. I recently started to notice that it disconnects around 5:30 and 8:30, which may be because a lot of people are on their computers(?) and that it works perfectly fine, almost, all the time if I'm not playing a game. During this time, when I try to load up World of Warcraft the Internet light disappears and the DSL light begins blinking. (So maybe it's too much for the modem and it resets?) Other than that it is amazing, but I'd like to try and fix some of these problems. If you need more information, let me know on how to get it for you and what to do. Thanks for the help!

  I just switched to Gnome 3 on a new laptop to try it out. Lots of things are different, but I think I can get used to them. But I'm having a real problem trying to figure out how to get the new network manager to setup a VPN through the GUI. I have openvpn, NetworkManager and NetworkManager-openvpn installed, but when I click on the network icon in gnome-shell there is nothing about vpn connections in there. When I click the "Network Settings" link in that menu I just see menus for Wired, Wireless and Network Proxy and none of those screens has anything for VPN connections either. Any suggestions about where I need to look to setup my connections and how to make it easier connect when I need to?

• Windows non-responsive during Remote Desktop connection

  This is Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. I use the command mstsc to establish a Remote Desktop connction to a remote server. The login window shows up, and while I'm entering the password the system almost freezes. Each character of the password takes 3 or 4 seconds to be accepted, and all other opened programs are not accessible. This behavior tends to happen only the first time I use mstsc. If I used it again moments later, everything is normal. Whar can be the cause of this problem?

I'm wondering how could I connect to the remote computer that has dynamic public ip address & private ip addresses assigned. I've 2 systems at home: xp system-------connected to internet(dynamic public ip) & allowed other users to connected to the internet on the interface. windows vista system--------enabled dhcp on the interface to access internet from xp. How could I remotely connect from my office to the 'vista system'?. If I've a router/modem at my home it may be possible to allow the ports for the system but I don't. Any tips?

  I am a programmer using Linux as my main OS, however sometimes I need to use windows (ie, office, ea). I'm running qemu with kvm to access the windows "machine". I would like to achieve something that is described here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SeamlessVirtualization (It means I would be able to run chosen applications on Windows and then display them locally on Linux as separate windows achieving good desktop integration). However seamless rdp is buggy and doesn't work on my machine (probably because I'm using a tiling window manager and a 64bit system). Are you aware of any other solution then rdp seamless mode? I would prefer to still use quemu because it uses cpu hardware virtualization, so different protocol/client combination would be preferable.

  Can I set my browser or download a special application to log/download everything that is going through network while browsing a site? When I open a website in Firefox, it downloads the files to temporary folders, but I need everything, and by everything I mean full Ajax request logging, image downloading...etc Every file that is downloaded while browsing sites (and not temporary, I need them later, so It should log and categorize it somehow). Otherwise: I want to automatically save everything you can see in the browser's network tab (after pressing F12) and not just the response, also need the information about what it sent and what it got back.

• Can't see more than the first few lines in an SSH connection

  I need some help for SSH buffer size. I have a vista machine at home and i have installed "Free SSHD" on it. I also have Dynamic DNS setup to access some of my home lab equipment which are connected to this vista machine. From my work machine which is an XP machine I connect to my home machine using Putty. Everything up to this point is working fine without any problem. The issue is I can't see more lines than the first few lines of the output. I press the space bar to get more output off the screen and the output scrolls up and it gets lost as the more output gets displayed on the screen. The Putty client i am using on my work machine has been setup with enough buffer size but the output still only displays few lines and as it moves up, the buffer gets empty automatically. I have searched the entire web and haven’t found any proper solution any where. Can someone please help here? Thanks.

• BSOD doing wireless connection repair

  (This should maybe be asked on Super User, but currently it is only for beta users.) We have a Dell Latitude X1 which always gets a BSOD (page fault in non page area) after repair on wireless. Wireless works as long as we do not do repair. Have tried the following with no success: Have updated BIOS to latest version and updated drivers for Intel wireless to the latest version. Any other suggestions? For now we just do not do repair and maybe that is the solution?
