  • problem with background subtraction

    - by riyana
    I'm doing background subtraction using opencv. The problem is the foreground object is not always detected correctly. To deal with this I would like to use four or five images, and take their average as the background image. How can I do that?

  • Parallel.For maintain input list order on output list

    - by romeozor
    I'd like some input on keeping the order of a list during heavy-duty operations that I decided to try to do in a parallel manner to see if it boosts performance. (It did!) I came up with a solution, but since this was my first attempt at anything parallel, I'd need someone to slap my hands if I did something very stupid. There's a query that returns a list of card owners, sorted by name, then by date of birth. This needs to be rendered in a table on a web page (ASP.Net WebForms). The original coder decided he would construct the table cell-by-cell (TableCell), add them to rows (TableRow), then each row to the table. So no GridView, allegedly its performance is bad, but the performance was very poor regardless :). The database query returns in no time, the most time is spent on looping through the results and adding table cells etc. I made the following method to maintain the original order of the list: private TableRow[] ComposeRows(List<CardHolder> queryResult) { int queryElementsCount = queryResult.Count(); // array with the query's size var rowArray = new TableRow[queryElementsCount]; Parallel.For(0, queryElementsCount, i => { var row = new TableRow(); var cell = new TableCell(); // various operations, including simple ones such as: cell.Text = queryResult[i].Name; row.Cells.Add(cell); // here I'm adding the current item to it's original index // to maintain order in the output list rowArray[i] = row; }); return rowArray; } So as you can see, because I'm returning a very different type of data (List<CardHolder> -> TableRow[]), I can't just simply omit the ordering from the original query to do it after the operations. Also, I also thought it would be a good idea to Dispose() the objects at the end of each loop, because the query can return a huge list and letting cell and row objects pile up in the heap could impact performance.(?) How badly did I do? Does anyone have a better solution in case mine is flawed?

  • detect sender of signal (linux, ptrace)

    - by osgx
    Hello Can I distinguish signal, between delivered directly to a process and delivered via debugger. Case 1: $ ./process1 process1 (not ptraced) set up handler alarm(5); .... signal is handled and I can parse handler parameters Case 2: $ debugger1 ./process1 process1 (is ptraced by debugger1) set up handler alarm(5); ... signal is catched by debugger1. It resumes process1 with PTRACE_CONT, signal_number is 4th parameter of PTRACE_CONT. signal is redelivered to process1 it is handled. So, how can I detect in signal handler, was it redelivered by debugger or send by system? OS is Linux, kernel is 2.6.30. Programs are written in plain C.

  • Silverlight MediaElement issue

    - by George2
    Hello everyone, I am using Silverlight 3.0 + .Net 3.5 + VSTS 2008 + C# to develop a simple video application using MediaElement of Silverlight. I have two videos and I want to play them at the same time (similar to picture in picture effect) -- i.e. a part of the two videos are overlapped when they are playing (the same concept of Z-Order in UI design). I want to play one MediaElement on top of the other MediaElement, and I am wondering how to assign the overlap order (similar to set Z-Order UI element, but I did not find MediaElement has Z-Order property)? thanks in advance, George

  • Finding a small image in a bigger one

    - by tur1ng
    Given an image with a large dimension ( 1.000 x 1.000). What is a good approach to find a small image (e.g. 50 x 50) in the big one? The smaller image can be rotated and differ in the size, but only with a 1:1 ratio. It's not related to any programming language - I'm just interested in pattern recognition. Thank you.

  • Image Resizing: Poor jpeg quality and black PNG backgrounds

    - by azz0r
    Hello, I have two issues with my class, basically the quality of the jpeg images is quite poor, but I'm not sure if thats down to my ratio resizing. Ideally I'd like this class to be strict with image sizes and crop into them, but I cant get my head around it. My main issue is that pngs always have a black bg, does anyone have experience with this happening? <?php class OpenSource_ImageResize { function __construct($theFile, $toWhere, $mime, $extension, $newWidth, $newHeight) { if ($mime == NULL) { $mime = getimagesize($theFile); $mime = $mime['mime']; } if ($mime == 'image/jpeg') { $size = getimagesize($theFile); if ($size[0] > $newWidth || $size[1] > $newHeight) { $sourceImage = imagecreatefromjpeg($theFile); } else { return copy($theFile, $toWhere); throw new exception('Could not create jpeg'); return false; } } else if ($mime == 'image/png') { $size = getimagesize($theFile); if ($size[0] > $newWidth || $size[1] > $newHeight) { $sourceImage = imagecreatefrompng($theFile); } else { return copy($theFile, $toWhere); //throw new exception('Could not create png'); return false; } } else if ($mime == 'image/gif') { $size = getimagesize($theFile); if ($size[0] > $newWidth || $size[1] > $newHeight) { $sourceImage = imagecreatefromgif ($theFile); } else { return copy($theFile, $toWhere); //throw new exception('Could not create gif'); return false; } } else { throw new exception('Not a valid mime type'); return false; } $oldX = imageSX($sourceImage); $oldY = imageSY($sourceImage); if ($newWidth == NULL) { $thumbHeight = $newHeight; $thumbWidth = round($newHeight/($oldY/$oldX)); } else if ($oldX > $oldY) { $thumbWidth = $newWidth; $thumbHeight = $oldY * ($newHeight/$oldX); } if ($oldX < $oldY) { $thumbWidth = round($newHeight/($oldY/$oldX)); $thumbHeight = $newHeight; } if ($oldX == $oldY) { $thumbWidth = $newWidth; $thumbHeight = $newHeight; } if (!gd_info()) { $dstImage = ImageCreate($thumbWidth, $thumbHeight); imagecopyresized($dstImage, $sourceImage, 0, 0, 0, 0, $thumbWidth, $thumbHeight, $oldX, $oldY); } else { $dstImage = ImageCreateTrueColor($thumbWidth, $thumbHeight); imagecopyresampled($dstImage, $sourceImage, 0, 0, 0, 0, $thumbWidth, $thumbHeight, $oldX, $oldY); } if ($mime == 'image/png') { $xparent = imagecolorresolvealpha($dstImage, 255,2,240, 0) ; imagecolortransparent($dstImage,$xparent); imagealphablending($dstImage,true); imagepng($dstImage, $toWhere); } else if ($mime == 'image/jpeg') { imagejpeg($dstImage, $toWhere); } else if ($mime == 'image/gif') { imagegif ($dstImage, $toWhere); } imagedestroy($dstImage); imagedestroy($sourceImage); return true; } }

  • Improving Performance on this Image Creation function

    - by Abs
    Hello all, I am making use of GD2 and the image functions to take in a string and then convert that into an image using different fonts at different sizes. The function I use is below. Currently, its pretty quick but not quick enough. The function gets called about 20 times per user and the images generated are always new ones (different) so caching isn't going to help! I was hoping to get some ideas on how to make this function faster. Maybe supply more RAM to the script running? Anything else that is specific to this PHP function? Anything else that I can do to tweak performance of this function? function generate_image($save_path, $text, $font_path, $font_size){ $font = $font_path; /* * I have simplifed the line below, its actually a function that works out the size of the box * that is need for each image as the image size is different based on font type, font size etc */ $measure = array('width' => 300, 'height'=> 120); if($measure['width'] > 900){ $measure['width'] = 900; } $im = imagecreatetruecolor($measure['width'], $measure['height']); $white = imagecolorallocate($im, 255, 255, 255); $black = imagecolorallocate($im, 0, 0, 0); imagefilledrectangle($im, 0, 0, $measure['width'], $measure['height'], $white); imagettftext($im, $font_size, 0, $measure['left'], $measure['top'], $black, $font, ' '.$text); if(imagepng($im, $save_path)){ $status = true; }else{ $status = false; } imagedestroy($im); return $status; } Thanks all for any help

  • Fastest way to compute a "Visual" checksum of an image

    - by ensnare
    I'm looking to create an ID system for cataloging images. I can't use md5() since that will change if I alter the EXIF tags of the image. I am currently using the SHA1 checksum computed by imagemagick. It works perfectly, but it's really, really slow on larger images (~15 seconds on a quad-core xeon for a 21 megapixel JPG). Are there any other "visual" methods of uniquely identifying an image that would be faster? Thank you.

  • Resize an array of images with OpenCV

    - by amr
    I'm passing an array of images (IplImage**) to an object in C++ using OpenCV. I'm then trying to iterate over that array and resize them all to a fixed size (150x150) I'm doing it this way: for(int i = 0; i< this->numTrainingFaces; i++) { IplImage* frame_copy = cvCreateImage( cvSize(150,150), this->faceImageArray[0]->depth, this->faceImageArray[0]->nChannels ); cout << "Created image" << endl; cvResize(this->faceImageArray[i], frame_copy); cout << "Resized image" << endl; IplImage* grey_image = cvCreateImage( cvSize( frame_copy->width, frame_copy->height ), IPL_DEPTH_8U, 1 ); cout << "Created grey image" << endl; cvCvtColor( frame_copy, grey_image, CV_RGB2GRAY ); cout << "Converted image" << endl; this->faceImageArray[i] = grey_image; cvReleaseImage(&frame_copy); cvReleaseImage(&grey_image); } But I'm getting this output, and I'm not sure why: Created image Resized image Created grey image Converted image Created image OpenCV Error: Assertion failed (src.type() == dst.type()) in cvResize, file /build/buildd/opencv-2.1.0/src/cv/cvimgwarp.cpp, line 3102 terminate called after throwing an instance of 'cv::Exception' what(): /build/buildd/opencv-2.1.0/src/cv/cvimgwarp.cpp:3102: error: (-215) src.type() == dst.type() in function cvResize Aborted I'm basically just trying to replace the image in the array with the resized one in as few steps as possible. Edit: Revised my code as follows: for(int i = 0; i< this->numTrainingFaces; i++) { IplImage* frame_copy = cvCreateImage( cvSize(150,150), this->faceImageArray[i]->depth, this->faceImageArray[i]->nChannels ); cvResize(this->faceImageArray[i], frame_copy); IplImage* grey_image = cvCreateImage( cvSize( frame_copy->width, frame_copy->height ), IPL_DEPTH_8U, 1 ); cvCvtColor( frame_copy, grey_image, CV_RGB2GRAY ); faceImageArray[i] = cvCreateImage( cvSize(grey_image->width, grey_image->height), grey_image->depth, grey_image->nChannels); cvCopy(grey_image,faceImageArray[i]); cvReleaseImage(&frame_copy); cvReleaseImage(&grey_image); } Then later on I'm performing some PCA, and get this output: OpenCV Error: Null pointer (Null pointer to the written object) in cvWrite, file /build/buildd/opencv-2.1.0/src/cxcore/cxpersistence.cpp, line 4740 But I don't think my code has got to the point where I'm explicitly calling cvWrite, so it must be part of the library. I can give a full implementation if necessary - is there anything in my code that's going to create a null pointer?

  • parallel computation for an Iterator of elements in Java

    - by Brian Harris
    I've had the same need a few times now and wanted to get other thoughts on the right way to structure a solution. The need is to perform some operation on many elements on many threads without needing to have all elements in memory at once, just the ones under computation. As in, Iterables.partition is insufficient because it brings all elements into memory up front. Expressing it in code, I want to write a BulkCalc2 that does the same thing as BulkCalc1, just in parallel. Below is sample code that illustrates my best attempt. I'm not satisfied because it's big and ugly, but it does seem to accomplish my goals of keeping threads highly utilized until the work is done, propagating any exceptions during computation, and not having more than numThreads instances of BigThing necessarily in memory at once. I'll accept the answer which meets the stated goals in the most concise way, whether it's a way to improve my BulkCalc2 or a completely different solution. interface BigThing { int getId(); String getString(); } class Calc { // somewhat expensive computation double calc(BigThing bigThing) { Random r = new Random(bigThing.getString().hashCode()); double d = 0; for (int i = 0; i < 100000; i++) { d += r.nextDouble(); } return d; } } class BulkCalc1 { final Calc calc; public BulkCalc1(Calc calc) { this.calc = calc; } public TreeMap<Integer, Double> calc(Iterator<BigThing> in) { TreeMap<Integer, Double> results = Maps.newTreeMap(); while (in.hasNext()) { BigThing o = in.next(); results.put(o.getId(), calc.calc(o)); } return results; } } class SafeIterator<T> { final Iterator<T> in; SafeIterator(Iterator<T> in) { this.in = in; } synchronized T nextOrNull() { if (in.hasNext()) { return in.next(); } return null; } } class BulkCalc2 { final Calc calc; final int numThreads; public BulkCalc2(Calc calc, int numThreads) { this.calc = calc; this.numThreads = numThreads; } public TreeMap<Integer, Double> calc(Iterator<BigThing> in) { ExecutorService e = Executors.newFixedThreadPool(numThreads); List<Future<?>> futures = Lists.newLinkedList(); final Map<Integer, Double> results = new MapMaker().concurrencyLevel(numThreads).makeMap(); final SafeIterator<BigThing> it = new SafeIterator<BigThing>(in); for (int i = 0; i < numThreads; i++) { futures.add(e.submit(new Runnable() { @Override public void run() { while (true) { BigThing o = it.nextOrNull(); if (o == null) { return; } results.put(o.getId(), calc.calc(o)); } } })); } e.shutdown(); for (Future<?> future : futures) { try { future.get(); } catch (InterruptedException ex) { // swallowing is OK } catch (ExecutionException ex) { throw Throwables.propagate(ex.getCause()); } } return new TreeMap<Integer, Double>(results); } }

  • Would this method work to scale out SQL queries?

    - by David
    I have a database containing a single huge table. At the moment a query can take anything from 10 to 20 minutes and I need that to go down to 10 seconds. I have spent months trying different products like GridSQL. GridSQL works fine, but is using its own parser which does not have all the needed features. I have also optimized my database in various ways without getting the speedup I need. I have a theory on how one could scale out queries, meaning that I utilize several nodes to run a single query in parallel. The idea is to take an incoming SQL query and simply run it exactly like it is on all the nodes. When the results are returned to a coordinator node, the same query is run on the union of the resultsets. I realize that an aggregate function like average need to be rewritten into a count and sum to the nodes and that the coordinator divides the sum of the sums with the sum of the counts to get the average. What kinds of problems could not easily be solved using this model. I believe one issue would be the count distinct function. Edit: I am getting so many nice suggestions, but none have addressed the method.

  • How to solve the problem of not being informed of successful payments by the 3rd party system used b

    - by user68759
    I have a subscription based website that interacts with a 3rd party system to handle the payments. The steps to process a new subscriber registration are as follow: The subscriber enters his/her details in the subscription form and click on the submit button. Assuming the details specified are valid, a new record is created in the database to store these details. The subscriber is then redirected to the website of the 3rd party system (similar to paypal) to process the payment. Once the payment is succesful, the 3rd party website then redirect the subscriber back to our website. At this time, I know that the payment was succesful, so the record in the database is updated to indicate that payment has been made successfully. A problem that I have found occurring quite often is that if a subscriber pays but does not complete the process correctly (e.g. uses the back browser, closes the window), his/her record in the database doesn't get updated about this. Accordingly, I don't know if s/he has paid by just looking the record and need to wait for the report from the 3rd party system to find this out. How do you solve this problem? PS. One of the main reasons to store their details into the database before the payment process is done is so they can come back to complete the payment without re-entering their details again. For example, when their credit cards were rejected by the 3rd party system and they need to sort this out with their financial institution which may take a while.

  • Technique to remove common words(and their plural versions) from a string

    - by Jake M
    I am attempting to find tags(keywords) for a recipe by parsing a long string of text. The text contains the recipe ingredients, directions and a short blurb. What do you think would be the most efficient way to remove common words from the tag list? By common words, I mean words like: 'the', 'at', 'there', 'their' etc. I have 2 methodologies I can use, which do you think is more efficient in terms of speed and do you know of a more efficient way I could do this? Methodology 1: - Determine the number of times each word occurs(using the library Collections) - Have a list of common words and remove all 'Common Words' from the Collection object by attempting to delete that key from the Collection object if it exists. - Therefore the speed will be determined by the length of the variable delims import collections from Counter delim = ['there','there\'s','theres','they','they\'re'] # the above will end up being a really long list! word_freq = Counter(recipe_str.lower().split()) for delim in set(delims): del word_freq[delim] return freq.most_common() Methodology 2: - For common words that can be plural, look at each word in the recipe string, and check if it partially contains the non-plural version of a common word. Eg; For the string "There's a test" check each word to see if it contains "there" and delete it if it does. delim = ['this','at','them'] # words that cant be plural partial_delim = ['there','they',] # words that could occur in many forms word_freq = Counter(recipe_str.lower().split()) for delim in set(delims): del word_freq[delim] # really slow for delim in set(partial_delims): for word in word_freq: if word.find(delim) != -1: del word_freq[delim] return freq.most_common()

  • Resizing Images with ASP.NET and saving to Database

    - by Ryan
    I need to take an uploaded image, resize it, and save it to the database. Simple enough, except I don't have access to save any temp files to the server. I'm taking the image, resizing it as a Bitmap, and need to save it to a database field as the original image type (JPG for example). How can I get the FileBytes() like this, so I can save it to the database? Before I was using ImageUpload.FileBytes() but now that I'm resizing I'm dealing with Images and Bitmaps instead of FileUploads and can't seem find anything that will give me the bytes. Thanks!

  • PHP image resize and rounded image corners dynamically

At the moment the script ads the rounded edges to the picture but i cannot get it so the original image is resized to fit within the dimensons of the final outputted image (140px x 120px) The problem is that the orginal uploaded image depending on it's orginal dimensions change the size it is in the final PNG { $image_file = $_FILES['image']['tmp_name']; $corner_radius = isset($_GET['radius']) ? $_GET['radius'] : 20; // The default corner radius is set to 20px $topleft = (isset($_GET['topleft']) and $_GET['topleft'] == "no") ? false : true; // Top-left rounded corner is shown by default $bottomleft = (isset($_GET['bottomleft']) and $_GET['bottomleft'] == "no") ? false : true; // Bottom-left rounded corner is shown by default $bottomright = (isset($_GET['bottomright']) and $_GET['bottomright'] == "no") ? false : true; // Bottom-right rounded corner is shown by default $topright = (isset($_GET['topright']) and $_GET['topright'] == "no") ? false : true; // Top-right rounded corner is shown by default $imagetype=$_FILES['image']['type']; $endsize=$corner_radius; $startsize=$endsize*3-1; $arcsize=$startsize*2+1; if (($imagetype=='image/jpeg') or ($imagetype=='jpg')) { $image = imagecreatefromjpeg($image_file); } else { if (($imagetype=='GIF') or ($imagetype=='gif')) { $image = imagecreatefromgif($image_file); } else { $image = imagecreatefrompng($image_file); } } $forecolor ='#ffffff'; $size = getimagesize($image_file); // Top-left corner $background = imagecreatetruecolor($size[0],$size[1]); imagecopymerge($background, $image, 0, 0, 0, 0, $size[0], $size[1], 100); $startx=$size[0]*2-1; $starty=$size[1]*2-1; $im_temp = imagecreatetruecolor($startx,$starty); imagecopyresampled($im_temp, $background, 0, 0, 0, 0, $startx, $starty, $size[0], $size[1]); $bg = imagecolorallocate($im_temp, 255,255,255); $fg = imagecolorallocate($im_temp, 255,255,255); if ($topleft == true) { if(!imagearc($im_temp, $startsize, $startsize, $arcsize, $arcsize, 180,270,$bg))echo "nope"; imagefilltoborder($im_temp,0,0,$bg,$bg); } // Bottom-left corner // Top-right corner if ($topright == true) { imagearc($im_temp, $startx-$startsize, $startsize,$arcsize, $arcsize, 270,360,$bg); imagefilltoborder($im_temp,$startx,0,$bg,$bg); } $image = imagecreatetruecolor(140,120); imagecopyresampled($image, $im_temp, 0, 0, 0, 0, $size[0],$size[1],$starty+1310,$startx+1500); // Output final image if(!imagepng($image,'hello.png')) echo "boo"; if(!imagedestroy($image)) echo "2"; if(!imagedestroy($background)) echo "3"; if(!imagedestroy($im_temp)) echo "4"; } EDIT: My question is how to get the orginal image reized so it fits into the 140 x 120 image that is processed with the rounded edges?

  • PHP Thumbnail image generator works, but consistently awaits 90% of its loadtime! Why?

    - by Sam
    Hi folks, This is the follow-up question from this general page load speed question. This question which will focus only, entirely and specifically on the thumbnail generator PHP code with the question: What's causing the 97% delays on these tiny thumbnails? Measuring only 3 ~ 5 kb each, this is strange indeed! Even after 7 orso bounty-rounds and 100 upvotes, the images are still doing nothing for over 97% of the time. It works allright, but it could be so much faster! ZAM, my pet robot, was so annoyed by not knowing why, he just pulled out some cords! Silly metal box... (I have asked permission from the original author, to put temporarily segments of the code online that I think could be the problem, after which I will remove all code, except the several lines that were the direct cause of this issue here to match the answer. This will be the free opportunity to perfect/speedup his otherwise already to my opinion vert versatile and userfriendly thumbnail generator.)
