  • How does [self.tableView reloadData] know what data to reload?

    - by Scott Pendleton
It bugs me to death that my viewcontroller, which happens to be a tableViewController, knows without being told that its property that is an NSArray or an NSDictionary holds the data that is to be loaded into the table for display. Seems like I should explicitly say something like: [self.tableView useData:self.MyArray]; Because, THAT'S WHAT I WANT TO DO! I want to have more than one array inside my tableViewController, and switch between one and the other programmatically. Please do not give me an answer like: "Never mind what you want to do, just set up two different tableViewControllers." No. I want to do it my way. I notice that when a tableViewController makes use of a searchViewController, you can do this: if (tableView == self.searchDisplayController.searchResultsTableView) { YES! I have even been able to do this: self.tableView = self.searchDisplayController.searchResultsTableView; [self.tableView reloadData]; But nowhere can I find how to set self.tableView back to the main datasource! I'm so tired of sifting, sifting through code for incomplete nuggets of enlightenment. Allow me to understate that Apple's documentation is grossly inadequate. It's astounding that so many slick iPhone programs came to be created. People said that once I went Mac, I'd never go back to Windows. Well, I'm anything but a convert.

  • Does Powershell have an "eval" equivalent? Is there a better way to see a list of properties and val

    - by glenatron
I'm doing a bit of Powershell scripting ( for the first time ) to look at some stuff in a Sharepoint site and what I would like to be able to do is to go through a list of properties of an object and just output their values in a "property-name = value" kind of format. Now I can find the list of elements using this: $myObject | get-member -membertype property Which will return a list of all the properties in a very clear and readable fashion. But what I need is to find a value for those properties. In some scripting languages I could have a kind of eval( "$myObject.$propertyName" ) call - where I have extracted $propertyName from the get-member output - and have it evaluate the string as code, which for the kind of quick-and-dirty solution I need would be fine. Does this exist in Powershell or is there a more convenient way to do it? Should I be using reflection instead?

  • What's better way to build NSPredicate with to-many deep relationships?

    - by Victor
Hello, I have three entities: EntityA, EntityB and EntityC connected with to-many relationships. See schema for details: For getting all instance of EntityA which depend from EntityB.name I use the predicate like this: NSPredicate *predicate = [NSPredicate predicateWithFormat:@"ANY EntityB.name like 'SomeName'"]; What should be predicate for getting all instance of EntityA which depend from EntityC.name? I tried query like @"ANY EntityB.entitiesC.name like 'SomeName'" but get exception "multiple to-many keys not allowed here". Best regards, Victor

  • Images in the project NOT adding to array - don't know why.

    - by Sam Jarman
    Hi there, I have to sets of images. Each set has 16 images. One set is called 0.png through to 15.png the other is a0.png through to a15.png. In my app, it loads each one dependent on a variable (which by logging, I have proved it works) here is the code [MemoryManager sharedMemoryManager]; NSLog(@"THEME: %@", [MemoryManager sharedMemoryManager].themeName); imageArray = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; if([MemoryManager sharedMemoryManager].themeName == @"hand"){ NSLog(@"Here 2"); [imageArray addObject:[UIImage imageNamed:@"0.png"]]; // [imageArray addObject:[UIImage imageNamed:@"1.png"]];//1 [imageArray addObject:[UIImage imageNamed:@"2.png"]];//2 [imageArray addObject:[UIImage imageNamed:@"3.png"]];//3 [imageArray addObject:[UIImage imageNamed:@"4.png"]];//4 [imageArray addObject:[UIImage imageNamed:@"5.png"]];//5 [imageArray addObject:[UIImage imageNamed:@"6.png"]];//6 [imageArray addObject:[UIImage imageNamed:@"7.png"]];//7 [imageArray addObject:[UIImage imageNamed:@"8.png"]];//8 [imageArray addObject:[UIImage imageNamed:@"9.png"]];//9 [imageArray addObject:[UIImage imageNamed:@"10.png"]];//10 [imageArray addObject:[UIImage imageNamed:@"11.png"]];//11 [imageArray addObject:[UIImage imageNamed:@"12.png"]];//12 [imageArray addObject:[UIImage imageNamed:@"13.png"]];//13 [imageArray addObject:[UIImage imageNamed:@"14.png"]];//14 [imageArray addObject:[UIImage imageNamed:@"15.png"]];//15 } if([MemoryManager sharedMemoryManager].themeName == @"letters"){ NSLog(@"Here 3"); //[imageArray removeAllObjects]; [imageArray addObject:[UIImage imageNamed:@"a0.png"]]; // [imageArray addObject:[UIImage imageNamed:@"a1.png"]];//1 [imageArray addObject:[UIImage imageNamed:@"a2.png"]];//2 [imageArray addObject:[UIImage imageNamed:@"a3.png"]];//3 [imageArray addObject:[UIImage imageNamed:@"a4.png"]];//4 [imageArray addObject:[UIImage imageNamed:@"a5.png"]];//5 [imageArray addObject:[UIImage imageNamed:@"a6.png"]];//6 [imageArray addObject:[UIImage imageNamed:@"a7.png"]];//7 [imageArray addObject:[UIImage imageNamed:@"a8.png"]];//8 [imageArray addObject:[UIImage imageNamed:@"a9.png"]];//9 [imageArray addObject:[UIImage imageNamed:@"a10.png"]];//10 [imageArray addObject:[UIImage imageNamed:@"a11.png"]];//11 [imageArray addObject:[UIImage imageNamed:@"a12.png"]];//12 [imageArray addObject:[UIImage imageNamed:@"a13.png"]];//13 [imageArray addObject:[UIImage imageNamed:@"a14.png"]];//14 [imageArray addObject:[UIImage imageNamed:@"a15.png"]];//15 NSLog(@"Here 4"); } The log says 2010-05-26 21:30:57.092 Memory[22155:207] Here 1 2010-05-26 21:30:57.093 Memory[22155:207] THEME: letters 2010-05-26 21:30:57.095 Memory[22155:207] Here 3 2010-05-26 21:30:57.109 Memory[22155:207] Here 4 The images are in the same folder the .xproj file is.   • External XMPP component - Anyone know a Tutorial or Open Source Example please?

    - by gav
Hi All, I want to run an XMPP server (Openfire) and register an external component to handle the messages it will recieve (using the Whack library). The external component will run my game logic and I will be using XMPP to send player moves to the server and status updates in the other direction. The bonus with XMPP is that we get built in chat for free. The trouble is, although Ignite look fairly established, I can't find a tutorial on how to write, register and debug an External XMPP component written with Whack, there are very few in general for that matter. I am not invested in either the server implementation or the External Component library, java is just my language of choice. If I was to move to Erlang or Scala or something it would have to be a very simple in that language. A single tutorial or example would go a long way here, I just need an basic External XMPP component pretty please! Kind regards, Gavin

  • How to better create stacked bar graphs with multiple variables from ggplot2?

    - by deoksu
I often have to make stacked barplots to compare variables, and because I do all my stats in R, I prefer to do all my graphics in R with ggplot2. I would like to learn how to do two things: First, I would like to be able to add proper percentage tick marks for each variable rather than tick marks by count. Counts would be confusing, which is why I take out the axis labels completely. Second, there must be a simpler way to reorganize my data to make this happen. It seems like the sort of thing I should be able to do natively in ggplot2 with plyR, but the documentation for plyR is not very clear (and I have read both the ggplot2 book and the online plyR documentation. My best graph looks like this, the code to create it follows: the R code I use to get it is the following: library(epicalc) ### recode the variables to factors ### recode(c(int_newcoun, int_newneigh, int_neweur, int_newusa, int_neweco, int_newit, int_newen, int_newsp, int_newhr, int_newlit, int_newent, int_newrel, int_newhth, int_bapo, int_wopo, int_eupo, int_educ), c(1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9, NA), c('Very Interested','Somewhat Interested','Not Very Interested','Not At All interested',NA,NA,NA,NA,NA,NA)) ### Combine recoded variables to a common vector Interest1<-c(int_newcoun, int_newneigh, int_neweur, int_newusa, int_neweco, int_newit, int_newen, int_newsp, int_newhr, int_newlit, int_newent, int_newrel, int_newhth, int_bapo, int_wopo, int_eupo, int_educ) ### Create a second vector to label the first vector by original variable ### a1<-rep("News about Bangladesh", length(int_newcoun)) a2<-rep("Neighboring Countries", length(int_newneigh)) [...] a17<-rep("Education", length(int_educ)) Interest2<-c(a1, a2, a3, a4, a5, a6, a7, a8, a9, a10, a11, a12, a13, a14, a15, a16, a17) ### Create a Weighting vector of the proper length ### Interest.weight<-rep(weight, 17) ### Make and save a new data frame from the three vectors ### Interest.df<-cbind(Interest1, Interest2, Interest.weight) Interest.df<-as.data.frame(Interest.df) write.csv(Interest.df, 'C:\\Documents and Settings\\[name]\\Desktop\\Sweave\\InterestBangladesh.csv') ### Sort the factor levels to display properly ### Interest.df$Interest1<-relevel(Interest$Interest1, ref='Not Very Interested') Interest.df$Interest1<-relevel(Interest$Interest1, ref='Somewhat Interested') Interest.df$Interest1<-relevel(Interest$Interest1, ref='Very Interested') Interest.df$Interest2<-relevel(Interest$Interest2, ref='News about Bangladesh') Interest.df$Interest2<-relevel(Interest$Interest2, ref='Education') [...] Interest.df$Interest2<-relevel(Interest$Interest2, ref='European Politics') detach(Interest) attach(Interest) ### Finally create the graph in ggplot2 ### library(ggplot2) p<-ggplot(Interest, aes(Interest2, ..count..)) p<-p+geom_bar((aes(weight=Interest.weight, fill=Interest1))) p<-p+coord_flip() p<-p+scale_y_continuous("", breaks=NA) p<-p+scale_fill_manual(value = rev(brewer.pal(5, "Purples"))) p update_labels(p, list(fill='', x='', y='')) I'd very much appreciate any tips, tricks or hints. Thanks.

  • could I know which file is altered using fsevent?

    - by Frost Li
I get the directory path from fsevent, such as "/User/Data/" But what I really want is "/User/Data/change.txt" I have read the programming guide, it said typedef void ( *FSEventStreamCallback )( ConstFSEventStreamRef streamRef, void *clientCallBackInfo, size_t numEvents, void *eventPaths, const FSEventStreamEventFlags eventFlags[], const FSEventStreamEventId eventIds[]); eventPaths An array of paths to the directories in which event(s) occurred. is there any method to find out which file is altered? thanks!!!! I have stuck to it for so long..

  • What URL scheme would be better for "nested" resources in a RESTful application?

    - by Luke404
Let's say we want a RESTful web service to manage some logically nested resources, where each instance of resource 'B' is logically contained by an instance of resource 'A'. The first example that comes to mind, working as a sysadmin, is email accounts and their domains: [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] ... What URL scheme would you suggest? At first I'd try: /domain/[domainname] /domain/[domainname]/account/[accountname] is that in line with RESTful principles? or should I go with something like: /domain/[domainname] /account/[account@domainname]/ or anything else?

  • Could MacRuby / HotCocoa supplant the need to know Objective-C?

    - by frou
I just discovered MacRuby / HotCocoa and really like the sound of what they're doing. I had essentially discounted the prospect of making Cocoa GUI applications myself because I have an aversion to spending time & effort learning yet another C-based language, Objective-C. I'm not saying it's bad, just not for me. Is it the case now, or in the probable future, that one will be able to make Cocoa GUI applications of substantial and first-class nature with MacRuby / HotCocoa alone while ignoring Objective-C completely?

  • How do I know if I have an unmanaged resource?

    - by Shiftbit
I've read that unmanaged resource are considered file handles, streams, anything low level. Does MSDN or any other source explain how to recognize an unmanaged resource? I can't seem to find any examples on the net that show unmanaged code, all the examples just have comments that say unmanaged code here. Can someone perhaps provide a realworld example where I would handle an unmanaged resources in an IDispose interface? I provided the IDisposable interface for your convience. How do I identify an unmanaged resource? Thanks in advance! IDisposable Reference Public Class Sample : Implements IDisposable Private disposedValue As Boolean = False 'To detect redundant calls ' IDisposable Protected Overridable Sub Dispose(ByVal disposing As Boolean) If Not Me.disposedValue Then If disposing Then ' TODO: free other state (managed objects). • Is there a better way to create a generic convert string to enum method or enum extension?

    - by Kelsey
I have the following methods in an enum helper class (I have simplified it for the purpose of the question): static class EnumHelper { public enum EnumType1 : int { Unknown = 0, Yes = 1, No = 2 } public enum EnumType2 : int { Unknown = 0, Dog = 1, Cat = 2, Bird = 3 } public enum EnumType3 : int { Unknown = 0, iPhone = 1, Andriod = 2, WindowsPhone7 = 3, Palm = 4 } public static EnumType1 ConvertToEnumType1(string value) { return (string.IsNullOrEmpty(value)) ? EnumType1.Unknown : (EnumType1)(Enum.Parse(typeof(EnumType1), value, true)); } public static EnumType2 ConvertToEnumType2(string value) { return (string.IsNullOrEmpty(value)) ? EnumType2.Unknown : (EnumType2)(Enum.Parse(typeof(EnumType2), value, true)); } public static EnumType3 ConvertToEnumType3(string value) { return (string.IsNullOrEmpty(value)) ? EnumType3.Unknown : (EnumType3)(Enum.Parse(typeof(EnumType3), value, true)); } } So the question here is, can I trim this down to an Enum extension method or maybe some type of single method that can handle any type. I have found some examples to do so with basic enums but the difference in my example is all the enums have the Unknown item that I need returned if the string is null or empty (if no match is found I want it to fail). Looking for something like the following maybe: EnumType1 value = EnumType1.Convert("Yes"); // or EnumType1 value = EnumHelper.Convert(EnumType1, "Yes"); One function to do it all... how to handle the Unknown element is the part that I am hung up on.

  • Invalid view state exception in asp.net. do you know any solution?

  • In a multithreaded app, would a multi-core or multiprocessor arrangement be better?

    - by Michael
I've read a lot on this topic already both here (e.g., stackoverflow.com/questions/1713554/threads-processes-vs-multithreading-multi-core-multiprocessor-how-they-are or http://stackoverflow.com/questions/680684/multi-cpu-multi-core-and-hyper-thread) and elsewhere (e.g., ixbtlabs.com/articles2/cpu/rmmt-l2-cache.html or software.intel.com/en-us/articles/multi-core-introduction/), but I still am not sure about a couple things that seem very straightforward. So I thought I'd just ask. (1) Is a multi-core processor in which each core has dedicated cache effectively the same as a multiprocessor system (balanced of course for processor speed, cache size, and so on)? (2) Let's say I have some images to analyze (i.e., computer vision), and I have these images loaded into RAM. My app spawns a thread for each image that needs to be analyzed. Will this app on a shared cache multi-core processor run slower than on a dedicated cache multi-core processor, and would the latter run at the same speed as on an equivalent single-core multiprocessor machine? Thank you for the help!

  • iPhone dev question: "No provisioned iPhone OS is connected" error, I don't know what else to try fo

    - by dsobol
Howdy, I am trying to compile and install my first application onto my iPhone after setting up a profile and certificate. At this point I am getting the "No provisioned iPhone OS is connected" error when I Build & Go. I am using iPhone OS 3.1.3, and Xcode 3.2.2 on 10.6.3. • I have verified that my iPhone is connected to my development machine (it is seen on the computer by both iTunes and Xcode Organizer (in Organizer, it has the green dot next to it)). • I have rebooted the iPhone and restarted Xcode multiple times. • I have verified that the Bundle Identifier in my appname.plist is set to com.. (with the appropriate values between the angle brackets). I have looked the error message up on the web, and so far have not found a hint that has gotten me over the hump.... Thanks for any and all assistance! Regards, Steve O'Sullivan

  • Better to build or buy a compute grid platform?

    - by James B
I am looking to do some quite processor-intensive brute force processing for string matching. I have run my prototype in a multi-threaded environment and compared the performance to an implementation using Gridgain with a couple of nodes (also multithreaded). The performance I observed was that my Gridgain implementation performed slower to my multithreaded implementation. It could be the case that there was a flaw in my gridgain implementation, but it was only a prototype, and I thought the results were indicative. So my question is this: What are the advantages of having to learn and then build an implementation for a particular grid platform (hadoop, gridgain, or EC2 if going hosted - other suggestions welcome), when one could fairly easily put together a lightweight compute grid platform with a much shallower learning curve?...i.e. what do we get for free with these cloud/grid platforms that are worth having/tricky to implement? (Please note, I don't have any need for a data grid) Cheers, -James (p.s. Happy to make this community wiki if needbe)

  • Is it worth purchasing Mahout in Action to get up to speed with Mahout, or are there other better sources?

    - by gab
I'm currently a very casual user of Apache Mahout, and I'm considering purchasing the book Mahout in Action. Unfortunately, I'm having a really hard time getting an idea of how worth it this book is -- and seeing as it's a Manning Early Access Program book (and therefore only currently available as a beta-version e-book), I can't take a look myself in a bookstore. Can anyone recommend this as a good (or less good) guide to getting up to speed with Mahout, and/or other sources that can supplement the Mahout website?
