• Registering a COM control during installation

  One of our applications needs to register a COM control during installation. If a newer version of that control is already registered, we don't want to overwrite it with the older. What are the Windows MSI install conditions I would user to control this? Or is there some other 'best-practice' method I'm not aware of? Thanks

• Would Mercurial help me work from 2 PCs?

  I currently use Perforce for source control, but want to start working on the code from 2 different PCs at the same time (desktop and laptop). The laptop would not be able to access the perforce server very often, which makes Perforce a poor choice in this setup. Distributed source control tools like Mercurial seem better suited to the task, but I am still not clear if this would work or not. Does anyone have any experience of using Mercurial to work on 2 machines at once (eg desktop in the week, laptop in evening and weekends). Does it help, or is it still a pain the butt keeping everything in sync and knowing what is going on.

  I have a scenario where I am displaying a popup on my control. I am able to do this using PlacementTarget, Position, etc. My problem is when I resize the window and move it to somewhere else in the desktop, the popup remains stationary meaning it doesn't move with the control set as PlacementTarget. I was able to hide it in case of other window getting focus. But not able to attach it with my control. How can I solve this problem? Is there any other such control available?

I want to use it on the webpage, but at the install window the name is MyActiveX.cab with no link. the MyActiveX.cab name can be changed by modifying the html page's tag codebase attribute. but the name is still format like "XXX.cab" with no hyperlink.   We use configuration files within various projects under source control (TFS), where each developer has to make some adjustments in his local copy to configure his environment. The build process takes care about replacing the config files with the server configuration as a part of the deployment, so it doesn't actually matter what is in the repository. However, we would anyway like to keep some kind of a default non-breaking version of config files in the repository, so that e.g. people not involved in the particular project won't run into troubles because of local misconfiguration. We tried to resolve this by introducing the check-in policy that simply forbids to check-in the config files. This works fine, but just because we're lazy to always uncheck those checkboxes in the pending changes window, the question comes : is it possible to transparently disable the check-in of particular files without keeping them out of source control (e.g. locking their current version) ?

• ASP control event handler not firing on postback?

  Hello, I have a control which has an ImageButton which is tied to an OnClick event... Upon clicking this control, a postback is performed and the event handler is not called. AutoEventWireup is set to true, and I've double checked spelling etc.... We haven't touched this control in over a year and it has been working fine until a couple of weeks ago. We have made changes to controls which load this control... so I'm wondering, what kind of changes could we have made to stop this event handler from being called? There is quite a bit of Javascript going on, so this could be the culprit too... Thanks

  Short Want to set automatic (or at least semi-auto) software version numbering in GIT Detailed I'm newby to GIT. Recently created some bare git repo and made some commits and pushes into it. Want to set some starting version number (like v1.0) to my project. I know, there is tag for this reason. Googled it and found bunch of materials. For example: git - the simple guide blog says: You can create a new tag named 1.0.0 by executing git tag 1.0.0 1b2e1d63ff the 1b2e1d63ff stands for the first 10 characters of the commit id you want to reference with your tag. Kudelabs says: $ git tag -a 'milestone1' -m 'starting work for milestone 1, due in 2 weeks' $ git push --tags I'm really confused. What is difference between first and second method: git tag and git tag-a. Can't figure out which to use for this purpose. How can I set version number in bare remote repo, to which I made 5-6 commits and pushes?

  i have a repeater inside a dynamic control, i am trying to get the items of the repeater in a postback prior to databinding. this seems to work when i have a static repeater where the items are still intact, but when my repeater is inside a dynamic control and i try to get "repeater.Items", the count is always 0. is this normal behavior for repeaters when being placed inside a dynamic control?

  I just went through the whole certificate/keychain/provisioning/appID/profile/DNA test process to get my app running on my iPhone. Turns out my iPhone OS was out of date (3.0.1 I think), so I updated it. Now it says The version of iPhone OS on “Stefanie's phone” does not match any of the versions of iPhone OS supported for development with this copy of Xcode. Please restore the device to a version of the OS listed below. If necessary, the latest version of Xcode is available here. OS Installed on Stefanie's phone 3.1.3 (7E18) Xcode Supported iPhone OS Versions 3.1.2 (7D11) 3.1.1 (7C146) 3.1.1 (7C145) 3.1 (7C144) 3.0.1 (7A400) 3.0 2.2.1 2.2 2.1.1 2.1 2.0.2 (5C1) 2.0.1 (5B108) 2.0 (5A347) But I have Xcode 3.2.1, which is supposed to support iPhone OS 3.1.3. What am I doing wrong? I have a cruddy internet connection (HughesNet), so I can't upgrade the Xcode SDK without it taking literally days.

If i type stackoverflow,then hit control+enter, it works and takes to homepage, but i type ubuntuforums, then hit control + enter, it does not recognise its ubuntuforums.org, but goes to ubuntuforums.com?? How does this exactly work? If i need to change this behaviour, how should i do it?

Error Provider should associate with control passed dynamically and can be set or cleared at run time. • Best practices for using Hg with Grails?

  What should I check in/not check in? Since many of the files are sometimes auto-generated I'm not entirely sure how to handle this using version control...does it have something to do with tags? For instance in ANT, I know not to check-in my target/bin directories...but Grails adds another level of confusion to this...since some of code is generated and some of it is not. (It may become clearer as I go...but it seems to be that there needs to be some way of being able to tell what was just generated and what was modified by a developer so that it needs to be placed in version control)

  ok, I'm working on a custom control that can contain some javascript, and read this out of the page into a string field. This is a workaround for dynamic javascript inside an updatepanel. At the moment, I've got it working, but if I try to put a server tag inside the block: <custom:control ID="Custom" runat="server"> <%= ControlName.ClientID %> </custom:control> The compiler does not like it. I know these are generated at runtime, and so might not be compatible with what I'm doing, but does anyone have any idea how I can get that working?   I've been writing an endpoint that sends events to a KRL ruleset via HTTP GET (based on the documentation here), in this format: http://cs.kobj.net/blue/event/{domain}/{eventname}/{appid} That works great when the version of the app I want to test is the same one that's deployed. I don't always want to deploy before testing it, though. Using the stated format for calling the dev version doesn't work. It still calls the deployed version of my ruleset: http://cs.kobj.net/blue/event/{domain}/{eventname}/{appid}:kynetx_app_version=dev What am I doing wrong?

• asp.net vb user control raising an event on the calling page

  i'm trying to learn about user controls. I created a user control that has a textbox and a button. What i'd like to be able to do is when i click the button in the user control, populate a label in the aspx page. I understand that i could just have a button on the page that uses some properties on the user control to get that information.. but i'd like to know how to do it with the button the user control.. the reason for this is the button is just an example.. a learning tool. if i can get this working, i'd likely be putting thing in the user control that might require this kind of passing information. Anyway.. i've found some c# examples that i tried to get working as vb.. but once started getting into the delegates and events.. well.. it made me turn to this post. anyway.. hopefully someone can lend a hand.
